Export as Filmstrip

I know this has been asked, but I'm going to ask again. Is it possible to export as a filmstrip? An image sequence is not as nice when trying to rotoscope in PhotoShop. This is the one feature I miss since switching from Premiere. If it's not possible, is there a place to post a "wish list" for future upgrades to FCP?

    Can anyone direct me
to a forum or a tutorial that will help me with replacing rotoscoping
with what is available in premiere 5

Your question was a bit out of the blue, until I found your first post regarding Premiere CS5 missing the filmstrip export.
And, both answers you got pointed at Photshop's posibillity to handle video directly.
    Anyway,
I am using CS3 (Production Premium), so I have to "shoot in the dark" a bit.
PS CS3 didn't handle interlaced video so well, and unless PS CS5 now know how to separate fields, I would suggest to take a look at this:
    http://www.motionworks.com.au/2007/07/ps_interlace/#more-103
Now, that was for After Effects, but maybe Premiere CS5 now can do the same (sequence settings instead of the "old" project settings, and dropping the footage into the "make new sequence" (or something like that) icon).
But, in case you do rotoscoping a lot, get After Effects!.

  • Export as film strip

Is there any way to do something similar in final Cut or Motion to the 'Export As Filmstrip' option that you can use in Adobe Premier?

Don't save it to the desktop, or a folder with anything else in it. You should create a dedicated folder for the image sequence, or else you'll have a bear of a time compiling them all to import into another program.

  • Time stretch to slow down motion

I am using Adobe Premiere Elements 7. When I use the time stretch to slow the motion down, my final motion is very "jerky". Any way to smooth that out a bit better?
    Thanks,

How does the Slo-mo footage look in Preview?
Also remember that you are basically doubling the number of Frames.
This might also be of use for improving the results:
Set field options for imported interlaced video
In most video, each frame consists of two fields. One  field contains the odd‑numbered lines in the frame, and the other contains the  even‑numbered lines. The fields are interlaced, or  combined, to create the complete image. Adobe Photoshop Elements includes a  reverse field order preset for video imported from a hard disk or Flash memory  camcorder that uses upper fields first. If your footage was captured with  reverse order fields (upper fields first), make sure your project uses either  the Standard or Widescreen preset from the Hard Disk, Flash Memory Camcorders  presets folder. (See Create or change project  presets.)
Ordinarily, interlacing isn’t apparent to a viewer. But because each field  captures the subject at a slightly different moment in time, playing a clip in  slow-motion, creating a freeze frame, or exporting a frame as a still image  makes the two fields discernible. To avoid this, you can deinterlace the image. Deinterlacing eliminates one field and  either duplicates or interpolates the lines of the remaining field.
Reversing the field dominance, the order in which the  fields are recorded and displayed, may also cause playback problems. When the  field dominance is reversed, motion appears jerky because the fields no longer  appear in chronological order. Fields can become reversed when the field  dominance of the original videotape is the opposite of the field dominance of  either the video‑capture card used to capture the clip or the video‑editing or  animation software that last rendered the clip. Reversing can also happen when  you set an interlaced clip to play backward.
To avoid these complications, you can deinterlace the  image. Deinterlacing eliminates one field and either duplicates or interpolates  the lines of the remaining field. You can also set field options for an  interlaced clip so that the clip’s picture and motion quality are preserved in  situations such as changing the clip speed, exporting a filmstrip, playing a  clip backward, or freezing a video frame.
Select a clip in the Timeline, and choose Clip >  Video Options > Field Options.
Select Reverse Field Dominance to change the order in  which the clip’s fields appear. This option is useful when the field dominance  of the clip doesn’t match your equipment or when you play a clip  backward.
For Processing Options, select one of the following  choices, and click OK.
    None
Does not process the clip’s fields.
    Interlace Consecutive Frames
Converts pairs of consecutive progressive‑scan (noninterlaced) frames into  interlaced fields. This option is useful for converting 60‑fps progressive‑scan  animations into 30‑fps interlaced video because many animation applications  don’t create interlaced frames.
    Always Deinterlace
Converts interlaced fields into whole progressive‑scan frames. Adobe  Premiere Elements deinterlaces by discarding one field and interpolating a new  field based on the lines of the remaining field. It keeps the field specified in  the Field Settings option in the Project Settings. If you specified No Fields,  Adobe Premiere Elements keeps the upper field unless you selected Reverse Field  Dominance, in which case it keeps the lower field. This option is useful when  freezing a frame in the clip.
    Flicker Removal
Prevents thin horizontal details in an image from flickering by slightly  blurring the two fields together. An object as thin as one scan line flickers  because it can appear only in every other field.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • CS4 Exporting and Importing Problems

    Hey all,
I joined this forum specifically so I could ask this question.  I have been looking all around and can not find the answer.
I have a Canon Vixia HF S10, with internal 32 gb memory, and am trying to import directly into Premiere Pro.  Now, I have the media browser set up to AVCHD, and the icon next to the files is that filmstrip and speaker, showing that it knows it's video.  However, when I try to drag it in, it acts like it's importing, and then pops up an error stating that the "Format is not supported".  Now it says on Adobe that it IS supported, and I can import it elsewhere.  I've tried re-installing it, using Clean Script, and nothing works!  I've also updated it every time I've installed it, though I've tried without updating as well.
My other question is this: I want to export a project as a .dv or DV stream, and I cannot find an option for it.  Simple as that.  It also says that exporting as .dv is supported in CS4.  What's the problem?  Is there something I need to download for either of them?
I'm running it on a Mac, on Leopard.
    Thanks a lot,
    Nili.

I am having the same problem. The file extension that I am trying to import
is .mts - AVCHD format which Adobe does not seem to recognise. I have taken it from a panasonic camera. Camera makes no difference, it is the format in which the file is stored. I have also also opened up
a customer chat with technical support on adobe. Could it be something to do with missing codecs?

  • How can I permanently clip video without changing filmstrip order?

I have just recently upgraded from LR1.4 to 4.2 (Windows 7 OS) and one of the features I am most excited about is being able to work with video in LR. I started clipping videos but I know LR is non-destructive. This is great for my photography but with videos I am trying to actually make the files smaller by saving only the footage that I want. So I exported to the original folder and figured I could then just delete the original unclipped file and be all set. Only problem is the exported file now appears at the end of my filmstrip since it is dated today. If I stack it it goes with the original file, but since I was planning on deleting the original file that wont help me. This is different from the way photos behave (though I'm not exporting generally there, I'm editing a copy in photoshop, and that keeps the capture time metadata and thus stays in its appropriate spot in the filmstrip). I tried copying metadata from the original file or even manually changing capture time but nothing seems to be effective. Please help!

I use a much, much older iMovie so I don't know exactly how the new one works, but until somebody else replies...  It may be re-encoding the whole .mp4 since some formats cannot be edited without doing that, and you would need to check something like format and quality settings to prevent it from saving to a much higher quality which won't actually make the quality any better than the original anyway.

  • Context right-click to export XMP metadata to file

I'd like to have the right click context menu include the option to "Export XMP Metadata to Files" in the Library grid or filmstrip. Currently an annoying trip to the Menu bar is required to invoke this function.

It was there for B4.1. The Contextual Menus are getting crowded, so maybe that's why they took it out.
I like lots of Contexual Menus, too. But they get a little useless if too crowded, so maybe they need ot be user configuarable for what one uses the most.
    Maybe by V1.5?

  • How to recover IN & OUT after exporting XML file from iMovie9 to FinalCut ?

    Here is my WorkFlow :
    - Log & Capture my HDV footage in FCP - ProRes422.
    - Move the captured ProRes 422 clips to a new EVENT in iMovie.
    - Roughcut my edits in iMovie with no effects, no audio goof offs, ... just straight cuts.
    - Share ( export ) XML FCP file >> import XML file to FCP >> create Archive of FCP project with MediaManager to gather used clips in a new project.
    Everything is great, BUT :
clips that MediaManager gathers in the browser window do not have the In & Out points, although clips on the timeline representing frame accurate cuts from iMovie.
Is there any way to do this and have the in & out points in browser clips matching to the cuts on the timeline ?

Do what you want, I'm not trying to change your workflow, but you can do all you say you do in FCP. If you change the browser to icon view, you can place the icons in a storyboard sequence right in the browser, and the icons are scrubable as well. In FCP, you can export EDLs, which you can't do in iMovie. You can also set the timeline window to dislplay the clips in Filmstrip view, which gives you the same visual representation that you have in iMovie. If you zoom all the way into your timeline, you can see every single frames as a thumbnail.
You already have the pro application. You're really only slowing yourself down by rough cutting in iMovie. But do as you will. In the end, it's really only about telling a story. I just prefer to have the least amount of obstacles while doing so.

  • When exporting NEF files to JPEGs, LR says the files 'cannot be found'. What do I do? I have not moved or altered the originals.

I'm attempting to create a slideshow for our 8th Grade Open House tonight and the files, which I shot in raw format, are not exporting properly into JPEGs via the Export button in Library. Every time I try, Lightroom says the files cannot be found. I've heard that many people have had issues with this because they have moved or altered the original files? As far as I know, I have not renamed and changed anything. Does it help to know that I first imported these raw photos from my camera reader onto an external hard drive? ...and yes, my external hard drive is plugged into my computer...

If you do a test export with just one photo, to your internal drive, does it work?
I adjusted the height of the thumbnails. Still no exclamation points or question marks as noted here.
Also, as to your second question, unfortunately no as noted here.
And as to your last question, I have tried several times to export them to my desktop (which would be on my internal drive, not external). I've even gone so far as to put a copy folder of my original NEF files onto my desktop (7 gb worth) to see if that would help me export...it didn't.

  • Exporting from Lightroom 4 to Photoshop CS5

I have a workflow I have followed for a long time now. Things changed and I can't figure out what I did:
I make adjustments to images in Lightroom 4 then send the image to Photoshop via EDIT-IN method [ctrl-E] on my PC.  I make my changes in Photoshop and then SAVE-AS a TIFF followed by a JPEG.  Normally both files return to Lightroom where I can see them in the filmstrip.  However, I cannot see the JPEG's anymore.  They are not displaying in the filmstrip anymore.  I have made some changes recently in my color settings and I checked my Preferences but I can't see anything that would prohibit the RETURN of the JPEGS.  Any thoughts?
    Thank you!!!

It is important to understand how Lr works.
Lr displays photos only when they are imported into Lr. A (seeming) exception is for a Raw image that is edited in Photoshop and <Saved> to the default settings that you selected in external editing of Preferences in Lr. So if the default setting is for PSD and you just hit <Save> in Photoshop, a PSD will be created and automatically imported back into Lr so that it will be displayed there. So, this is not really an exception from the rule that an image has to be imported into Lr - it is an automatic import. This automatic import works only for the <Save> to the default settings;it does not work when you do a <Save As> and select a different file format than the default setting. In your case you did a <Save as> to create a JPG. This JPG will not be automatically imported into Lr, you have to import it manually - either through the Import Dialog or by <Synchronize Folder>.
Apart from that, and as JimHess said, why do you create a JPG in Photoshop from the same file? If you need a JPG, in Lr just export your PSD as a JPG when you need it.
I often need JPGs from my file, but I create them only when needed by exporting them to a folder of my choice. Usually I delete them after a while. I don't see a reason why I should have JPGs sitting around on my hard drive(s). They can be created again (from the Raw files or from PSD's/Tiffs) if the need arises.

  • Is there any way to use a "filmstrip" effect like FCPro X has?

We use both FCP 7 & X.  Does anyone know, are there any third parties, or Apple for that matter, that would allow us to create the filmstrip transition or effect that we see in X?  They hae a Pan down in X that looks pretty neat.
Any similar type effects available in FCP 7?
    Thanks,
    Larry

Just an idea: how about if you master the part the way you want (just the one track - nothing else), export it to iTunes, and then reintroduce the already mastered effect as one track on the next phase of the project?

  • Editing/Exporting from a collection

If I import photos into my lightroom library like a wedding then create a collection of that wedding and chooose the photos I want for that collectio. Then I edit the collection I am confused if my edits stay edited for export. Sometimes I see little  /- boxes in the bottom corner and when I click on a photo it changes. the sometimes they will all change to a different edited version??? I need to make sure the collection I edit, STAYS edited the way I did it. Isnt it supposed to do that? PLEASE help me understand this...

I cannot help an answer, but some images to explain-
With ONE image selected on the filmstrip in develop module, you will see "Previous" and "Reset" buttons. "Previous" will copy the adjustments to the next single image you select.
With TWO or more images selected on the filmstrip, you will see "Sync..." and "Reset".  Clicking "Sync" will copy adjustments from visible Master selected image to secondary selections (one or more).
With TWO or more images selected on the filmstrip, AND you set the SWITCH 'up' ,you will be automatically syncing every adjustment you make to the visible image onto every other selected image. Useful for global adjustments on many images eg. white balance. Caution-Remember to turn if off!

  • Importing a filmstrip into PPro, or wire removal

Hi folks. I've just got around to re-editing a short film I made some years ago. It was shot in Panasonic P2 medium high-def (1280x720), but was originally edited in standard-def. I now have the opportunity to re-edit in the native source format. So far, so good, and nearly everything has imported from the old PPro 2 project - I've spent the day re-linking clips to the media files and it looks pretty good.
There was a "flying" stunt in the film done with harnesses and wires strung between trees in the forest where the story took place. In the original edit, I exported these sequences to a photoshop filmstrip format and painted out the wires, then re-imported the filmstrip back into the project.
PPro CS6 doesn't want to co-operate. When was the .flm format dropped as an import feature?
Is there a plug-in to allow this filmstrip to be imported, or am I going to do the wire removal again? I don't mind removing wires again - it'll probably look much better considering the original export/import was standard-def, but I still need to see the exact edit in and out points of the original footage if possible.
    cheers

Yes, look for CC Simple Wire Removal. Here's the Help documentation: http://cycorefx.com/downloads/cfx_hd_std/CycoreFX%201.7%20Manual.pdf
