Export "baseline" h.264 WITHOUT Compressor?

Hi all-
I'm a fairly new FCP-X user.  I recently used it to generate h.264 videos for the web.  However, I couldn't get them to play when browsing the website on Android devices.  Apparently our friends at Google's mobile division only accept "baseline" H.264 files.
I was able to convert the video to a usable "baseline" version using Handlbrake, but the size balooned by almost 3X, despite it losing resolution.
So, what is the cleanest way to produce compact h.264 files - especially "medium resolution" (i.e. width = 800 or so pixels) files, in a way that's compatible with all mobile devices?  I DON'T have Compressor, and really want to avoid purchasing it - $50 just to tweak export options towards a "standard" is unacceptable, and out of my budget.  (Welcome to the "new normal" economy.)
I'd try many export myself to see what works, but the exporter is insanely slow - I figure it's best to see what other users do
Thanks,
Tom

I didn't know that…adding to a long list.
Anyway, download MPEG Streamclip. Export as MP4 h.264. It will be Baseline Profile.

  • Direct export as m2v  vs. export as H.264, then compress to m2v for DVD SP

    Hello,
I am wondering what makes a better quality of finished video. If I have HDV video on FCP timeline and want to output it for DVD. What is better? To compress sequence directly into m2v using EXPORT USING COMPRESSOR (DVD Best Quality 90 min)
Or is should I first export as H.264 (using Compressor or QT Conversion) and then bring this H.264 into Compressor and compress it to m2v (using DVD Best Quality 90 min)
    Thank you,
    Paullie

I think the answer is in the first paragraph of the tutorial:
"For quite sometime now, people have been posting to the Discussion boards regarding problems attempting to produce good quality standard definition DVDs when working with HDV video. HDV video does not encode well to MPEG 2. There are two ways that we can work with HDV video and get high quality standard definition DVDs. Both processes involve transcoding from HDV to Apple ProRes 422. The first process happens during capture. The second process can be used if you have already captured HDV video into FCP."
You are dealing with HDV and then need to take some special workflow to get the best quality. If you wearing using even plain DV, the best workflow is direct from DV to MPEG2.

  • Large file on fcpx and trying to export without compressor? want to eventually transfer to dvd?

I have a fairly large file on fcpx and trying to export it without compressor. I tried this and the .mov file was way too large to eventually burn to a dvd. Can someone please help!! I am very new to this program. Do I need compressor? Or when I share>export media is there a setting i can change?

Are you making an authored DVD or a DVD-ROM? If the former, the size of the file doesn't matter only the length of the video.

  • Crashing on export to H.264

I am just getting my feet wet with Motion and have suddenly started experiencing an export issue.
I am putting together some 1 and 2 second motion theme graphics for a trade show. Nothing at all fancy. Just a few basic moves using mostly imported layers of a Photoshop file.
The first few exported fine. I used H.264 compression so I could email the files to people. However the last two have crashed Motion on export. There is motion on four separate elements but only a rotate here and a fade-in there. Nothing crazy. The weird thing is that I CAN export to Apple's 4444 without crashing. I end up with a file over 100 megs but I do have a file. It gets ftp'ed instead of email but at least people can see it.
But really, why do you suppose this is happening? As you can see in my profile, I have a brand new iMac quad i7. It's not like I'm running a piece of junk here. I see no reason that it couldn't handle something so simple.
BTW I just went back to one of the "simpler" animations that DID get exported to H.264 and once again it DID export without a hitch.

well it might not fix your problem, but there are a couple of things to try. If you can export a prorez 444, then import that into compressor and export an h264. You can also try importing the motion project into fcp, drop it on a timeline and Send to compressor form there. I sometimes seem to get different results this way. The other thing to try is to copy the h264 preset you're using in compressor and to fiddle with the settings. it might be a corrupted settings file somewhere.
You might as well throw the preferences for motion and compressor away. lastly you might try turning layers off in your motion project, see if you can narrow it down to a specific item. It could be a corrupted file, or perhaps some layer becoming too big for your graphics card. You could try turning on fixed resolution for any suspect layers.

  • Final Cut Pro X - Share - Export Media - H.264 - Audio is panned to the left?!

My video has a soundtrack that is a stereo .WAV that I can play in QuickTime with no problem.
I added the .WAV to my FCPX project, exported H.264 of the finished video, and when I play the resulting file in QuickTime, the audio is panned to the left. There is still some stereo separation but it's like the right channel has been turned down. Alternately playing the video and the original .WAV in QuickTime makes it extremely obvious, but it's actually noticeable (and very annoying) even without the comparison.
Does this happen to anyone who exports H.264 via the Share -> Export Media menu item, or is it something in my project? (I didn't do anything to the audio apart from dragging it onto the timeline - I tried deleting the audio and dragging the file back on again but it still ends up panned to the left in the output).

It was set to Surround and 48Khz. I set it to Stereo (and 44.1Khz for good measure, as that is the sample rate of my soundtrack) and then re-exported to H.264, and now the audo is perfectly centered.
    So that's perfect, thanks.
Now the only thing wrong with FCPX is how it crashes every ten minutes or so!

  • Quicktime Broadcaster and baseline H.264/AVC

Is there any way to force QT Broadcaster to encode to baseline profile when encoding H.264?
    PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Has anyone been able to create a iPod Video compliant video recording from QuickTime Broadcaster?
Don't believe Broadcaster accesses the "baseline" H.264 profile required for iPod compatibility. Use the "Movie to MPEG-4" export/share option to create "custom" iPod compatible files in QT or use a third party utility with user settings. You can also try any of the dedication QT conversion options but files will likely be much larger.

  • Sequence w 23.976 fps exporting as h.264 QT with 22.69fps

I exported an h.264 QuickTime from Premiere Pro CC (Mac).  The project/sequence was set to 23.976 fps.  The export settings for the QuickTime was also set to 23.976 fps. However, the QuickTime that was created had a frame rate of 22.69fps.  I have never had an issue like this before.
I had Premiere add the QuickTime to the project on export.  That QuickTime file displayed 23.976 fps in the Premiere Pro Project Panel.  However, the same QuickTime is showing as 22.69fps on the QuickTime inspector in QuickTime, as well as a third party application.
The odd thing is, after several attempts with the above set up, sometimes the exported QuickTime has the correct frame rate of 23.976 fps and sometimes the exported QuickTime has a frame rate of 22.69fps (incorrect), so it is not consistent.
I have reported this issue to Adobe. The Adobe tech, via a screen sharing session, also noticed this inconsistency first-hand and agreed there was an issue of some kind.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be going on?

  • Exporting PNG Image Sequence in Compressor?

    Hi everyone!
Can anyone help? Any Compressor pro's out there?
I can successfully export sequences via Final Cut Pro using Quicktime conversion as .PNG Image Sequences retaining the alpha channel (millions+). However in Compressor the Image Sequence settings seem to ONLY support targa or tiff, IS there a way to export the image sequence using compressor as a alpha channel PNG!
You can export the sequence as a .mov with the png codec.. but I must have it as the image sequence!
    Any ideas anyone?

Sorry, but I have not been able to find an option for exporting image sequences with Alpha channel in Compressor either. I submitted a bug report about this a few months ago.
Why do you need to use Compressor? If it is for deinterlacing or resizing, you could export from FCP using Compressor, and choose to export a QuickTime movie using the Animation codec at 100%. After that, you can export your Animation file to a PNG image sequence using QuickTime Pro.
It is the only workaround I can think of at the moment.
I would recommend submitting a bug report: http://www.apple.com/feedback/compressor.html

  • Exporting from FCP and using Compressor at the same time?

    Only in FCP 7.

  • Install Soundtrack Pro without Compressor 2

I've run in to major problems with Compressor 2. I am running Production Studio (FCP4.5, DVDSP3, etc). I purchased the Soundtrack Pro Upgrade and it also added Compressor 2. I have experienced many problems with compressor 2 (I've seen them listed here) and needed to totally rebuild to get back to a working system with Compressor 1. I tried many of the suggestions with little luck. I have not yet installed Soundtrack Pro, as I cannot afford to bring my system to a halt again with Compressor 2. Is there any way to install Soundtrack Pro without Compressor 2? I've been through the install and the documentation, but did not see the option. Anyone know any way to do this?

If you get Charles Srstka's Pacifist, you will be able to install whatever you need to wherever you want... Beware: this is not for the faint of heart - you must know what you're doing!

  • Premiere pro CS6.0.3 keeps crashing when exporting to H.264

    Good day everyone,
I am trying to export my timeline using some of the H.264 setting and it keeps crashing on me. Not all of the H.264 like the Apple and Android settings.  Those work fine.  But trying to export to  H.264 Youtube (any presets), H.264 HD 1080I 29.97 and HD 1080P 29.97 it will process to around 80%-95% than crash.  It gives me an error message than gives me three files that can help with finding the problem.
I have tried to export using Premiere and also AME.  They both crash at the same point.
I have tried creating new projects, new sequences and such.  No luck.
Currently I am using Premiere Pro CS6.03, Adobe Media Encoder CS 6.03 as well.  Windows 7 64bit, Intel Core [email protected] with 8GB ram.  My video card is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670.  Any advice would be most helpful and appreciated.
    Thanks

I solved what might be a similar problem last evening by lowering the speed of my i7-3055K (nominal 3.9GHz) to 4.2GHz from 4.5GHz.
My symptoms were similar: new PC build (10 days old); crashing or blue screens about 1 minute into a 3 minute Premiere export or AME render, Win7 Pro.  The system had previously been very stable.  At first I suspected an H264 codec problem or an iTunes/Quicktime incompatibility but when an AVI render using the NTSC DV Widescreen preset crashed it broadened my search for solutions.  Mercury GPU render on/off did not fix the crash problem.
The render last evening was probably the first time that my new CPU was seriously stressed.  Lowering the CPU speed was the quick solution.  Overclocking sites/forums probably have tips on stress tests, memory tests, voltage tweaking, etc but as long as the system is stable I'll probably be satisified with the slower CPU solution.
The CPU cooling is the Intel stock fan.  32GB of Corsair memory is running at its rated PC1600.  CPU and memory voltages are the defaults, i.e., no tweaking.  Intel DZ77RE-75K motherboard. EVGA GTX680 FTW+ 4GB at its defaults, i.e., no overclocking/tweaking.  1000 watt power supply , which is probably overkill but it's what I had lying around (I have an almost identical setup (GTX460 rather than GTX680) which runs fine at 4.2GHz with a 700-watt PSU -- but I've never stressed that 2nd PC with an Premiere/AE/AME render).

Are you running the 9.0.1 Update of the program and on what computer operating system is it running?
Is your video card/graphics card driver up to date according to the manufacturer of the card?
Is your computer optimized, including maintenance of pile ups of preview files, conformed audio files, and conformed video files?
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1?
What are your project settings and what are the properties of your source media? When you say that "used to be able to export...." is that on the same computer, same brand/model/settings for the camera recording the video now in use, same Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1?
Where player are you using for the playback of these exports?
Please give us more details on the size of the projects (then and now) as well as details of the customized export settings in your Share/Computer/ route. Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 is only a 32 bit application running in 32 bit or 64 bit system. Not sure if computer resources might be taxed more so now than before.
