Export both current and original photos (without dupes)

I want to export a large number of photos from iPhoto. iPhoto lets me export either the "current" version with edits, or the "original" version as imported from the camera.
Most of my photos don't have edits, but I want to export both version for photos that do. If I just run the export twice, once for current and once for original, I'll end up with a bunch of duplicate photos.
Is there a way to export all the current photos, plus the originals but ONLY when the original is different (i.e., the photo has been edited)?

Export the originals for all photos.
Then create a smart album with the rule "Photo is Edited".
For the photos in this album export a full sized JPEG version of the edited photo-
Added:
Kind "Current" will give you the current preview image. The quality is not as good as exporting the original. That is why I recommend to export with "Kind Original" for all photos and "Kind JPEG, Full Size, High Quality" for the edited photos to save the edited versions as well.

  • Why does iPhoto 11 show both modified and original photo files for items I've never modified?

I have been looking through some recent photos and noticed that File > Reveal in Finder displays a modified and an original file for images I've never modified.  The originals are in subdirectory iphoto > Masters and the Modified files are in subdir iphoto > previews.  This appears to happen strictly with photos taken on my iphone.  Any ideas?  It's eating up a fair amount of HD space, for no reason as far as I can tell.

#1 is patently untrue; I go in there all the time via File > Reveal in Finder so that I can grab images to pull into other applications, mail clients etc.
Actually it is patently true - what you are doing is not supported, is not necessary and is dangerous - you should only access the photos using the supported methods
#2 - I thought maybe that was it too but it's on images both vertical as well as horizontal.  There's even images in there that are just still frames of videos taken on iphone.
2 - the most common cause of un-expected "modified" versions is having the autorotate feature set on your camera - this causes a rotate flag to be set so that when yu import iPhoto does that and as always keeps the original and keeps the rotated version as mopdified
Given that you provided no information about your work flow one can only guess at common reasons
The jpeg preview of each video is also a modified version - as to why both vertical (portrait) and horizonal (Landscape) photos would have modified versions more information would be needed - the most likely cause is that you have made changes of some sort to them

I have owned an ipad for a few months and taken photos without synching to Photstream.  Having just done this I now see photos are removed from iCloud after 30 days.  Are these recoverable or lost for good?

    Please see the following:
    iCloud- Photo Stream FAQ
    iCloud- Photo Stream limits
The 30 day limit, as I understand it, prevails after you reach one of the prevailing number limits. I've yet to reach one of those limits over the past few years and my PhotoStream is still intact.
However, it's a good idea to move your photos into iPhoto which is your on-disk library. And, this library can be backed up locally, thus, preserving your photos.

  • Exports both JPG and a copy of the NEF

I was playing with some settings and where before LR 5.6 exported only JPG files, it now exports both JPG and a copy of the NEF file. How do I just export the JPG and not both? What do I shut off?

I was doing some tests and, being lazy, rather than import a file from a flash card, I imported from a subfolder in my work folder where I keep the RAW files from a shoot named “RAW”. Usually, the files are imported into this “RAW folder from the flash cards. Apparently, if the NEF file you are importing is already in the folder you are saving to (“RAW”), LR saves to the root directory (“work” folder) which is where I normally export my edited LR files. There needs to be a dialog box come up that says your are saving to the same folder or something to that effect. Goes to show – never try to work late at night when you are tired.
Long story short, LR was NOT exporting JPG or TIFF files along with the NEF file. The NEF file was copied to the work folder on import. Goes to show – never try to work late at night when you are tired.

  • How to delete forecast entries with zero current and original qty from a particular forecast set which span across multiple forecasts

how to delete forecast entries with zero current and original qty from a particular forecast set which span across multiple forecasts

    Hi,
There is no way to delete those records selectively from front end.
The best possible way is to delete the records from MRP_FORECAST_DATES tables from backend.
    Hope that helps!!

  • Exporting through "share" to email or CD reverts to original photo without my edits.  How to change that?

I make changes to photos, then use the "share" command to put on a CD - and the photos on the CD do not have any of my changes/edits.  Same thing happens when I email the photo.  I turned it to black and white in iPhoto, but the picture in the email is color.  Very frustrating!

Opps.  Just came in from a RAW editing discussion and thought you were using a 3rd party editor.
Launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and create a new, test library.  Import some photos, edit and try emailing them to yourself.  If the problem is not repeated then the issue lies in your current library.
If that's the case then make a temporary, duplicate copy of your library the apply the three fixes in order as necessary.
    Fix #1
1 - delete  the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file,, Cache.dbt, that is located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If that doesn't help try the following: make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Drop zones for both portait and landscape photos?

I'm looking to create a template similar to the Appletv screen saver. I can figure out how to stack the photos in 3D and do motion paths. My question is specifically how to create drop zones into which I can drop either portrait or landscape photos without having to worry about them getting squeezed or cut off. Or is there some other software I need to use?

Thanks so much to both of you. Mark, you are exactly right. I would like to be able to somehow dump a bunch of photos, regardless of orientation, into existing drop zones and have them look correct. I tried placing a portrait photo into the existing drop zones in the appletv motion project and it cropped it. On the actual Appletv itself, it does not crop or squeeze portrait photos.
Do you know of any workarounds to help me do what I would like to do, other than learning how to program core animation?

  • How do you export logic projects, and into soundcloud without ruining any quality?

I export a song, and it lost alot of volume. I found a way around that by adding adaptive limiter to the entire mix. It helped alot. Now I post it to soundcloud and then some of the instruments quality degrade. And when i play it in iTUNES or even the finder window, it is how i want it to sound. When I hear it on soundcloud, its quality and volume degrades. Is there a way around this???
    please help! Thanks!

Just to clarify before I make any suggestions is that what most DAWs call exporting isn't called exporting in Logic, it's called Bounce. If you use the export command in Logic it will give you seperate WAV files for each track and .midi files for any midi tracks you have in your project. The Bounce command is right below the export command in the file menu, though.
The settings you choose when bouncing really depends on your preferences and how big of a file you care to have. If you have no mastering or mixing left to do you should choose PCM saved as WAV or AIFF (I'm honestly not sure of the pros and cons of the two), but you can bounce the project as more than one file format at once so you don't really have to choose only one.
If you bounce to an MP3 go ahead and choose the highest settings which I believe is 320CBR (320 constant bitrate). You can also bounce as AAC, which I prefer because Apple Lossless results in a fairly small file (compared to WAV) while maintaining good quality. You can also manage the file's metadata from this menu so your ID3 tags are good to go.
Like I said it's really up to your preferences and what you are going to use the file for.

  • Books and Original Photos

Is there any way to scale a photo one way for a slideshow and crop it another way for a book without changing the original or making a copy of it?

Simply create a new version in Aperture for each layout and crop it as needed.
When you create a new version in Aperture, you're only creating a new set of 'settings' for processing and exporting the file, so it only takes a few Kb of storage. You're not actually duplicating the image several times (unless you're working on versions of tiff or PSDs).

  • How to export both masters and versions w/ metadata?

When traveling I import photo files into Aperture on my laptop and edit them.  When I get home I would like to export "everything" - masters, versions, and metadata, so that I can then import all of this into Aperture on my desktop.  Or, perhaps there is another way to transfer all of this information into Aperture on my desktop?  The export menu seems to give only the option to export either masters or versions, but I want to basically duplicate on my desktop a particular project from my laptop.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

You get the option to either add the contents of the being-imported Library to the being-imported-into Library, or to merge the contents.  In neither case is the being-imported-into Library replaced.
It is always a good idea to maintain a practice Library of a few hundred images, and to use it to try out any actions you fear might destroy your work.
There is an entire chapter in the User Manaul on using Library files.  It is part of the general introduction to Aperture (viz.: the first seven chapters), all of which is recommended reading as it provides the foundation needed to achor your exploration of the rest of this complex, powerful program.
What you want to do is part of that power -- it is specifically provided as a feature of Aperture:
This is particularly useful if you use a portable computer when on location or away from your studio, and a workstation at your studio. Any work done in the field can be exported from your portable computer as a library file and then merged with the library file on the workstation at your studio.
In your case, either export everything ("Export→Project as New Library") from the "field" computer, or simply import the entire "field" Library.  The details of the workflow are up to you to determine.  They will likely depend on what Images you want to maintain on your "field" computer -- whether that Library is a one-time only collecting basket, or is used for processing or showing Images collected on previous excursions.

  • Saving edited and original photo

I know that I can revert to the original image after editing, but I want to keep and be able to see the original and the new edited image. Is this possible in iPhoto 09?
Also, I can't seem to cut a photo from one event and paste it into another event. Am I doing something wrong? I know I can drag it from one event to another, however that gets very tedious if I need to move it a long ways (drag from event to event to get it where I want).

Wait, I'm having trouble with editing my duplicated images. Part of the problem is that I want to do my red-eye reduction in Photoshop (which does a much better job than iPhoto, sadly). Here's my process:
    1. In iPhoto, right-click on desired image and choose "Duplicate."
    2. Drag duplicate photo from iPhoto window onto Photoshop icon on dock.
    3. Perform red-eye reduction in Photoshop, save (overwrite) duplicate file.
When I go back into iPhoto, the Photoshop red-eye reduction appears in the duplicated photo, as intended. However, if I attempt to make additional changes within iPhoto (for instance, adding color effects or edge blur), I lose my beloved Photoshop red-eye reduction!
I thought that when you duplicate a photo in iPhoto, it essentially creates two "originals" -- two independent files. However, my problem would suggest that the duplicate file is still linked to the true original. Is that correct? And if so, is there any way to accomplish what I'm trying to do within iPhoto, or do I have to import a second version of the photo (i.e. drag file from Finder into iPhoto) in order to trick iPhoto into thinking it's a different photo (independent file)?

  • Moved files and both copied and original now Zero Bytes

I copied around 20gb of video files from one external disk to another only to find that both the original files and the newly created ones are now showing file sizes of Zero Bytes and are unplayable. The copying operation looked like it worked fine whilst Finder was working on the files. Any ideas how I can get these working again?

Hope you have a backup! The only way I can see that happening  is if the originals were already zero. Copying should not affect the source. How many files?

  • Alias created with both dragged AND ORIGINAL file

I was attempting to back up some files today and I dragged a folder to the "untitled CD" icon on my desktop. When all of the files in that particular folder would not fit on the CD-R, I dragged two of the files to the desktop. I burned the CD and then put in a new one for the remaining two files. When I attempted to drag the two files on the desktop to the untitled CD icon, they wouldn't copy to the untitled CD and then when I tried to open them, the message said they were aliases. So I then went back to my original copy of those files and they had become ALIASES TOO!!! I called support services and they told me there was nothing they could do. This has never happened to me before has this ever happened to anyone else?
    Thanks

  • How to save changes developed with LR to the original photo file?

Once changes developed I want to save them onto the original file. I export the selected image (original photo + changes) with overwriting choice but the result file has only the original and not the changes

Presumably we’re talking about something other than RAW files, here, right?
LR is not Photoshop.  I don’t think you can overwight your original during an Export because it is in use.  LR isn’t really set up to do this, anyway.  LR is non-destructive so it would apply whatever settings it has for an image to the image and display the result for you.  If you overwrote the image, then LR would still apply the settings it had for the original image to the new image with the same name and would effectively be applying the settings twice, which is not what you want.
What you probably want to do is export to a subfolder and then re-import those images so what you’ve exported are distinct from your originals.  If you really don’t want your originals after the export, just delete the originals and leave the exported images that you’ve already imported.

  • LineChart with current and historical data daily report

    Hi all,
I'm new on BAM and I want to know if it is possible to define a LineChart showing information about today and the 30 last days.
Is it possible using two dataobjects, one for today data and an external one provided by ODI with the contents for the last 30 days?
    Anyone can provide a sample?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Both current and historical data are always stored within the same table. There is no option to create separate tables for each that are managed by OWM.
However, you do have the option to use dbms_wm.PurgeTable which can be used to purge a set of data, and optionally store it in a archive table. But, after that is done the data is no longer under Workspace manager's control or the versioning environment. From the description that you gave, I am unsure if this would be sufficient to satisfy your requirements. I am guessing not, but wanted to make you aware of the functionality.
    Regards,
    Ben
