Export chapter titles for DVD case/label

Does anyone know of a way to export the titles of iMovie or iDVD chapters so that they can easily be put into the design of the DVD case cover?
Thanks for any information.

Chapter names are stored in the iMovie HD project file. They are also stored inside the reference movie that iMovie HD constantly updates for iDVD. (The reference movie for iDVD stored inside the project package. It is updated each time you save the project.)
If you have QuickTime Pro ($30, from Apple) you can use QuickTime Player to export the chapter track from that reference movie to a text file. One of the export options is to export just the chapter names. (There's another to export lots of other data about the chapter track, data you don't need.)
To export the chapter names to a text file, follow these steps:
• In the Finder, Control-click on the iMovie HD project icon and choose "Show Package Contents" from the popUp menu that appears.
• Locate the movie with the same name as your project inside the "iDVD" folder of the folder "Shared Movies".
• Double-click on that movie to open it in QuickTime Player. The chapter names will appear in the popUp menu at the bottom right corner of the movie window.
• Choose Window > Show Movie Properties. The window that opens lists all the tracks in the movie. One is "Chapter Track". Click on it.
• At the left end of the Chapter Track is a checkbox. Click on it to turn it ON.
• Click in the main movie window to bring it forward (activate it).
• Choose File > Export. In the Save file window that opens, choose "Text to Text" from the top popUp menu at the bottom of the window.
• Click on the "Options" button. In the window that opens, click on the radio button "Show Text Only". Click OK.
• Save the text file. Open the file in TextEdit or your favorite text editor.

  • How to Copy/Export Chapter Titles for labels

I have just created a DVD from an iMovie in which I created a couple dozen chapter titles. I burned the disk and everything went well.
However, when the time came to create a DVD Insert containing the Chapter Titles, I found no way to copy the titles out of the iDVD or iMovie projects. I find it very primative that I have to manually retype (or individually copy/paste) all of the titles from one of these two project files. I am looking for a solution (maybe ultimately an enhancement) that allows me to copy these titles (like with iTunes) so that I can paste them into another application that will create my DVD Insert.
Any insight to shortcuts are appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi Rob:
    Welcome to discussions!
May I suggest using SnapzPro for copying your titles?
    http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/
Also, please do not ever put sticky labels directly onto your DVDs (not that you said you were) because it will screw up your DVD player over time. Make a jewel case insert or you might want to look into an Epson printer (I use R300) that prints directly to printable DVd / CDs.

  • Printing chapter markers for DVD case?

    Hey guys,
Unless I just can't find it, is there a way to list all the chapter breaks in a track and print them in a format that would fit nicely in a snapper case or jewel case? Wouldn't this be a great addition to this application?
I transfer people's videos to DVD for a living and need a utility that does this quickly - would anyone know of something for the Mac that can read the chapter breaks from a DVDSP track or can I export a chapter break list maybe??
    Thanks all,
    Brian

Wouldn't this be a great addition to this application?
    Totally!
A year back I looked at how the chapter markers and times could be extracted from a FCP XML file using PHP. An app was developed (not by me, I hasten to add) which did just that, but not with PHP:
    http://www.spherico.de/filmtools/XML2Text/index.html
This will give you a list of chapters to feed into DVDSP... which ought then to be the same as any list coming out! (Provided you used FCP in the first place, of course).
I don't think it works with DVDSP description files, but you could easily contact Andreas Kiel (the author) and see if that can be added in to future versions.
I've not used the later version of the software, but the alpha and beta stuff looked excellent. There is now a small charge for the product - €45, I believe.

  • How to export chapter screenshots for printing?

My office is working up a large collection of DVDs in Encore. As part of the job, our manager wants DVD cases that display thumbnails of the poster frames located at each chapter stop (chapters are set as automatic intervals in Encore). She saw that cases with thumbnail chapter images are provided by some of the big video companies like YesVideo when they make DVDs for customers, and decided she wants them for this job.
The problem is, we cannot figure out how to get screenshots of every chapter stop exported from Encore in an expeditious manner. The closest we have come to a solution is manually navigating to each chapter stop and using the "save frame as file" option. But for 24 stops per DVD, doing each chapter like this--for many DVDs--will take forever!
Is there a way to automate this? I can't believe Encore doesn't have a way to save all the chapter stop images in a given timeline as JPEG files. I'm used to automating so much in Photoshop!
Or, if there isn't an Encore way, does anyone know of another program that can do this? We found one called DVD Labeler that does something similar, but it doesn't do exactly what we need.
All advice is appreciated. Thank you!

    Hi Stan--thanks for your help.
Believe me, I'm all for options that make it easier! But I'm not sure I understand why your method is easier.
Yes to your questions--set intervals, the beginning chapter is not special, poster frame is the same as the chapter.
We are doing exactly the same thing you describe doing in Premiere--just in Encore instead. We're using the "next chapter" button to jump to the chapter locations, and using "save frame to file" instead of "export frame."
No, it's not automatic, but for 24 chapters per DVD, it's still plenty time-consuming. So I'm not sure why your Premiere method would be preferable to what we're doing. But if I'm missing something, please let me know. :-)

  • Export chapter marker for WMV file or print a chapter marker list?

Is there any way to ether export chapter markers to a wmv file, or to print a chapter marker list from FCP?

It's strictly a QT function, AFAICT, moving marker files from one QT app to another. Could be wrong, though, so I hope you get better advice later today.
Does WMV even support markers? I haven't seen the ability in any of my references but I haven't actually gone searching for it.

  • Exporting FCP movie for DVD Studio Pro

I am finished with my movie. I am confused now on the exporting to DVD studio pro. How do I do this? My viewer also would like it to be in widescreen because they had just bought a HDTV widescreen.
So how do I go about this. I have made many with iDVD but this will be my first with Studio Pro.
How do I export for DVD studio Pro?

The most important thing you can do to help us answer your question is to give us the specs on your project. Open Final Cut Pro and click into your sequence. Then go to the menu "sequence" and go to "settings" or simply hit a command-0 (the number not the letter). Then tell us the frame size and the compressor used. From that information, we can get a better idea on how to help you: it is best to start any post with this information.
To export the best quality, go to file -> export -> QuickTime Movie...
From there, export using current settings, include audio and video, and make sure the bottom two boxes are checked (recompress all frames and make self-contained)
Once that file is created, import into DVD SP and you're done. Don't worry about compressor or other formats right now. This will give you the best picture with the minimum amount of headaches. Let us know how it turns out.

  • Ready to export the movie for dvd

So we are finally done the Mountain bike film we have been working, and bike magazean wants in in a few days. What is our best option for export? I usually use compressor to export? , Should i use it? Every thing was filmed on a dvx100 at 24p
Also, i want to put chapters in, so you can go to the different riders sections. How do i do this?
    Thanks guys
    Syd

I found the most reliable way to get chapter markers from FCP into DVD SP was to create the markers in the timeline, and export... via compressor
I found the other routes lost the markers at one stage or another.
The only downside is its slower for a 2 pass encode that way, but does not require any extra HD space.
For the self contained vs. reference debate, I think the issue is that the render cache sometimes goes all funny, and associates the wrong renders in the timeline - another way to fix that is to clear the render cache before exporting a reference movie, or before exporting via compressor.
Again, it slows things down, but not as much as having to go back and do it twice anyway.....

  • Exporting best quality for DVD

I shot video with a Canon 5d Mk2. 1080p 30 frames, 48k.  Looks awesome in Premiere!  But when I export the video to Encore i use the Mpeg-2 DVD preset, and it just kills the quality.  I have to burn to standard DVDs because my clients need them that way, so Blu ray isn't an option.
I understand it has to compress everything, but i would like to know how to get the best quality possible.  It needs to look better! I am using CS5
    Please Help!

    John,
Thanks for your response. The issue seems so simple since I've followed steps described on Lynda.com back when I was using CS4.
I'm now using CS6.01. I created this video in CS4 and updated it in CS5. PS, AE, and Pr
I've installed all of the updates to CS6. To newest  QuickTime and to the Video Card
My PC is running Windows 7 Ent.; 64-bit Xeon CPU Quad 2.8GHz
And I'm not running other software.
The source footage is a sequenced .tiff animation I rendered out of AE.
I've made a video a few years back. A copy is here on YouTube: http://youtu.be/lAh70G_AOFE.
I'm not editing the video. I just get requests to have a DVD of the original source to play in our tradeshows. Sharp copy/product edges. It looks great in Premiere and I've set on paper my standard work from Lynda.com (Premiere Pro CS4 Essential Training - Chapter 16).
I select the Sequence in Premiere Pro and select File / Adobe Dynamic Link / Send to Encore. Then set the Project and Build settings.
But as you can see below the file exported to Encore didn't transcode (?) properly
    BEFORE Screen in Premiere:
NEW: I can see now that the Video in the timeline has the jags

  • Import Avid xml chapter points for DVD Studio Pro

    Hello-
We are an Avid based house (don't ask) but I am infiltrating with DVD Studio Pro. I need to find a way to import the exported xml file that Avid makes for chapter points. The lame Sonic/Avid burning software imports it with no problem. I tried but Studio Pro does not see the file (it is grayed out).
Please give me an easy way to have another reason to convince the powers that be to go Mac.
    Thanks

You can import a marker list easily into DVDSP. This is explained on page 385 of the online DVDSP manual (under the Help menu). However, you'll need to strip out all the non-essential info from the Avid xml file to do this. The XML will be complex, and may have the timecodes in raw frame numbers, rather than HH:MM:SS:FF format. I have used a combination of Excel and Word to flip the data into tables and back, and use find and replace to get the data into the magic 2-column format.
There may be another option to export from the Avid that will give you more simplified data, such as an EDL or batch list, though these two options in FCP include everything but the markers.

  • Exporting Captivate 4 for DVD usage

Is there a way to preserve user functionality (SWF features) for export to DVD? I need to be able to allow the user to view (click-through) the presentation at there own pace - will the AVI export provide this functionality? Please advise.

    Hello,
    Welcome on the forum.
AVI results in a real 'video', do not think that you can have interaction possible.
Did you try to publish as an EXE with the Media option in the Publishing dialog box?

  • Export Quicktime File for DVD for Composer

My Composer wants a quicktime file of my film. I know if I export it the way that I usually would for iDVD, the file will be too large to burn onto DVD. Any suggestions about what to do? If he doesn't need the full resolution, how can I change the size & res options before I export it?
    Thanks!

Most composers want a frame-accurate, or at least a frame-referenced, piece of video. With your extreme compression, she might not get what she needs to do accurate syncing of the hero shot s with the hero music and effects stabs.
I'd ask her for more information and I'd also think about providing a copy of your film with a timecode overlay.

  • Export 16x9 Anamorphic for DVD Studio Pro for TV

My movie is 16x9 Anamorphic DV on a 3:2 Anamorphic timeline... I want to export the movie in the highest possible quality for a DVD made in DVD Studio Pro. This DVD is for view on TV.
What is the best way to do this? Meaning the way most indie filmmakers would do it for a festival DVD?

what is the exact audio option that I should be selecting in compressor? I do not see ac3? Closest is AAC 128kbps. Where are the correct audio options located in compressor? They are not under DVD 90 Folder... Thanks

  • Exporting Wedding films For DVD

I was hoping to get some feedback on the best Format to export from FCPX. I am burning to both SD and HD blue ray depending on client preference. What export option will give me the best quality? I am assuming the hd export but is the apple 1080 p just as good? i notice its about half the file size using the apple device choice. I am using toast for the dvd burns.
The file size of course fills up Hard drives fast so i want to ensure i am being economical with space but also want to do whats best for the image. Please advise. Thanks TIM
    2.6ghz intel core 7 16gb ddr3 macbook pro

to avoid useless 'in-betweens' or 'conversion hopping' I would simply export a 'Master file' = that keeps the original quality, and Toast has to convert just once, straight from original to mp2/'disk'.
Drive space is no issue, c'mon!
    You get a TB for <70€ ...

  • Chapter marker for dvd, on a compound clip or inside ?

Can I place chapter markers into a compound  clip and not on it, i mean on main timeline would be easy and faster to place markers since cuts help me to find the right position, but I am afraid that encoding a dvd from a  compound clip they won't be seen

No, Chapter markers have to be on the primary storyline of the exported project.
