Export clips back to i Movie project

Hi,
I'm trying to figure out how I can export parts of my iMovie dvd back into the iMovie project? I did not save the original copy on tape so I need to work with the dvd disc.
Thanks
Steve

You will need to convert the DVD files back to dv for iMovie.

  • Exporting clips back into organiser

    Hi Everyone,
Can I start by saying that since I started working with Premiere Elements 10 a mere 2 weeks ago and this forum has been a font of knowledge.
I am putting together some videos of my friend and I passing with juggling clubs, which we do by setting up a camera on a tripod and leaving the camera to record the resulting chaos (Organised of course). As a result, I have a lot of material to sift through for several different movie projects.
Once split up, I want to be able to export each of the little sections of video to organiser, where I can sort them into categories, making the final movie creation a lot slicker, creating a bank of material for future use and resulting in only having to split the 8 hours of footage once.......and there are a lot of splits!!
I have tried copy and pasting into a new project, but it doesn't like that, the export is greyed as it is video and after reading a post somewhere else, I have hunted, without sucess for a "reveal in media" button, but can only find "reveal in project".
    Can anyone help please
    Dan

  • Exporting clips into library from movies

I'm a basketball coach and I have 50+ games of my team (mp4 files). I'd like to create clips of individual players from each of these games and put each player in their own library. Later on, as needed, I'll create highlight reels of each player. Depending on what these players are being recruited for would depend on which clips I'd use in the highlight reel. I figured I would use tags in each clip to identify what the clip is for.
What I'm wondering, and I'm hoping I just missed something, is how do I create these individual clips (building blocks as it were) from the game films. I'd like to have them on an external drive that I can import into FCPX rather than the whole game itself. I don't want to have to carry the 50+ games around with me all the time. After I've pulled out what I need from each game, I'd like to delete it and move on. Then I can create the highlight reels from the individual clips I've ripped from the game films.
I hope this makes sense and I hope this is something easy I just haven't figured out. I'm just starting with FCPX and I would like to make sure my libraries are organized from the beginning. Thanks for any help/suggestions that you can provide.

Put the video in the timeline and locate the scene with the particular player.
Change the cursor to the Range tool by hitting the R key and drag it over the part you want.
The range you have selected will be outlined in yellow, open the Share window and export as a Master File choosing H.264 not ProRes.
Alternatively you could use the blade tool to cut the video at the start and end of the player's bit and delete the rest before you export everything that's left.

  • Lost sound in some film clips when finishing project.  Using iMovie 11, after adding music to photo section, could not get sound back in 2 film clips at end of movie.  Beginning clips ok. How do I restore sound? Thx.

Everything in your project will be exported when you use the share menu.
If you want to export only half, I suggest that you
    1) Select the project in the Project Library.
    2) Click FILE/DUPLICATE PROJECT
    3) Give the duplicate a name, like Project A snippet.
    4) Open the duplicate project in the Project editor and delete the segments that you do not need.
    5) Then Share.
You mentioned surrounding a portion of the clip you were editing in Yellow. Once you do this, you should right-click and then select either DELETE SELECTION, TRIM TO SELECTION, or one of the other options available. That is a key tool in editing.
You mentioned MPEG Streamclip. I agree that MPEG Streamclip is a great tool.

  • After exporting finished movie project, one clip is gone but all others are visabel

  • The stills in my movie project do not respond when I try to edit their "duration" I change it  the clip inspector and click done, but when I exit clip inspector , it reverts back to what it was prior to my trying to change it?

The stills in my i movie project will not allow me to edit the duration time. I change it in the clip inspector, but when I click done, it just reverts back to what it was prior to my attempt to change it?

  • How do I backup movies/clips to use in future projects?

After burning my first DVD & deleting the iMovie file, I was sad to discover that I could not just pop the DVD into my drive & access the material to use in future projects. (Is there a way to do do this that I don't know about?)
I'm guessing I need to burn the archived iMovie file onto multiple regular CDs (I have not burned anything that spans several CDs before). This is confusing me because the zipped file is hardly smaller than the original (Is there a better zip program than the one that comes with this system?) I threw away the wrapper for my blank CDs so I don't know how much they hold but I think it is something ridiculously small like 670MB and the iMovie file is 7GB. Is this the only way to save my movie/clips so that I can bring clips into a future movie?

welcome Novice to the  board ....
    hmm, multidimensional question ...
DVD is end-of-the-road, not meant for further processing; there are tools, allowing to import DVD to iM, but that is a time-consuming and lossy (=losing pic quality) process, due to the deliver-format nature of DVDs.... search forum for "DVD import"
iM is by concept not meant to handle a clip in many projects (that can easily been accomplished with pro tools as FC(E), which offer "bins" for imports, offering the content to many sequences/projects).
there are workarounds, dragging clips from the internal files of an iM project to another... but, as said: you "fumble" the concept: import tape, edit, burn - done.
a video contains ~13GB of data per hour... and, video is allready highly compressed, no zipper can reduce that dramatically... and, you risk damage of files... yepp, a cd-r fits ~700MB = 3.5min of video......
    recommended workflow:
    * don't store iM projects on -r media (cd/dvd), but firewire connected harddrives..
    * keep the tapes; import clips from tape into project; you can export single clips out of iM/import into another project, I wouldn't do that with "lots" of clips, importing the tape is... more convenient..

  • Can't drag and drop or import movie clips or ver. 8 projects into iMovie 9

    Hello:
I just installed Leopard (OS X) with iLife and iWork (although I didn't actually install iWork). I can't drag and drop .mov or .dv files into a project. If I "File-->Import-->Movies", all the types I want to import (.mov & .dv) are grayed-out. I created and saved a project with the older version of iMovie (8) and then tried to import it into iMovie 9. The result is a message in the clips panel that says "No matching video. Choose a different options from the Show pop-up menu at the lower left corner." So far, everything I wanted to do is bust. Can somebody help?
    Thanks.
    Etude.

I have tuns of .mp4 clips, converted them to .mov clips... .
    How?
    easy way:
    • double-click mp4 to open it in QuicktimePlayer.app
    (does it play the video?)
    • File/Export/choose 720p (if optional, if not 480p)
    • import THAT into iMovie using iMovies import routine, proceed …

  • Does someone know when our movie project and finally our iDVD project is done, can we erase the clip that we had imported in iMovie without danger?  Or we have to keep the clip in iMovie until the DVD are burn?

    Hi
Most processes in Non destructive Video editing is based on that the raw-material is safe and intact. So by trashing it most things can or will go wrong.
So e.g. in iMovie project - there is NO Movie - just a small text document refering to Your raw-material, audio files and photos (within or not in iPhoto Library) on how they are to act together to Play Your Movie.
And by changing any of them the Movie project will be affected or destroyed.
reg. iDVD there is also a link back to iMovie - Most famous to set of the iDVD BUG !
To do that - one starts a new iDVD project and add movies etc. Then find something i one movie in need to be adjusted. Closing iDVD and returning to iMovie and doing this. Then when back to iDVD it will notice and ask You to Up-date or Cancel. Neither works. The iDVD project is harmed. All Chapters now point to Chapter One and more strange things happens.
the medicine I use - I start a brand new iDVD Project and re-do it and hopefully not fine any more to be fixed in the movie.
This indicates the strong link inbetween iDVD and iMovie and I would not touch anything in iMovie till DVD is Burned and Ready AND Plays Well !

  • Imovie on my ipad ...refuses to recognize AVCHD Video. Also when i remove video clips already used in a project, it is unable to recognize missing clips after I've put them back. How do I get around these 2 issues?

My iMovie refuses to recognize, import, or work with AVCHD Video. It also refuses the same video clips even after I have converted them to Mp4. Also, when I delete a video clip already used in a project, then later import the same clip back to my ipad, the software is unable to recognize and find the clip again! Help! How do I get around these issues?

    Hi Craig,
I also got the second problem. The storyboard on iMovie trailer has all these missing videos. If I import them on my iPad it doesn't find them.
If you find a solution it would be much appreciated to share it here ... I'll do the same.
    Thanks,
    Rafael

  • Unable to move project from external drive back to FCPX.

The HD was recently replaced in my iMac. Fortunately I had backed up my FCPX events and projects to folders on an external drive. I have down loaded FCPX again to the new HD but I'm unable to move my project back into FCPX. Having opened FCPX, I then open the project library, select the external drive, open the folder containing my project but the  "current version fcpproject"  is grey  (not available). I was however able to drag the "fcpevent" file into the event library.
    Any help will be appreciated

Since there is no disclosure triangle on your external showing in your project library, there are two possibilities:
    1) There are no projects presently located on the drive.
    2) Project files are on the drive but FCP can't see them because they are not at the root level of the drive.
So either way, to straighten this out you will have to move some files in the Finder – even though best practices (as both Tom and Luis have pointed out) are to stay within FCP to do that.
Move the existing CurrentVersion file to a temporary folder to hide it from FCP.
Unless you know that the Ball project is at a specific location on your external, do a spotlight search on Final Cut Projects. If something comes up, with FCP closed, navigate to it in the Finder and move it to the root level of the external drive. Then open FCP and it should now be accessible in your project library.  Select it in the library; go to File>Move Project. Things should now work.
But if you don't have another copy on your external, open FCP and hot the plus button at the bottom of project library and create a new project. That will create a Final Cut Projects Folder in your Movies folder (which is where it should be in your home directory). Close FCP. Open the temp file and drag the CurrentVersion file that you hid to the Final Cut Projects folder.
Hopefully, you wil now be able to get back to work.

  • I was copying a movie project to my hard drive from and external and I received a notice that it wasunable to do so due to my time machine being too full. Now when going to time machine, I am only able to go back in time 3 days?? Why? JMB

Not sure where my old backs up went, in time machine. I am only now able to see 3 days ago? Did it delete any old stuff after it gave me a message when I was attempting to download a movie project to my hard drive, and it told me that I was out of space? Is there any way now to go back in time? JMB

  • Problem exporting more than 18 clips back to JVC-D72U

I have constantly been exporting clips from my ibook to my camera and importing back to my ibook to conserve space after cutting clips down. I've been working on a montage and have about 30 min. of clips within about 250+ clips. Everytime I have to export back to my camera, the camera only accepts about 18 clips, anymore and it becomes choppy or doesn't not export at all, the status window just says Exporting... while my camera runs with a black image on both the camera and iMovie. Is it my camera, computer, or iMovie?

    hi Kyle:
Just a guess-it may be your 60 Gb HD.

  • I have old video clips in Photoshop Elements Organizer v12 for Mac.  I want to divide some of those clips in Organizer.  I can do that in Premiere Elements 12 and save them as "Projects" - but how do I get the divided clips back into Organizer?

I have old video clips in Photoshop Elements Organizer v12 for Mac.  I want to divide some of those single clips into 2 or 3 separate clips, each shown separately in Organizer.  I can divide the clips in Premiere Elements Editor 12 and save them as "Projects" - but I can't find any way to get those divided clips back into Organizer.  Does anyone know whether that can be done?  Many thanks for your thoughts.

What about Google Drive? And just share the folder with the family members.
