Export dump size,How to predict

We had a client database of 45GB but the dump was only 1.5 gb.THere were no views,SP,synonyms,primary key etc except table and indexes but that was performing wonderfully well .
Now we got db of 12 gb with more 6gb of dump.But here we got 20,000 views,100's of synonyms,
How does oracle generates ?

I have created pipes and compressed in Unix.How to do it in Windows<br>A solution could be to place the dump file under a compressed directory.<br>

    My Databse size is 10 gb what will be my export dump size?
    Why is there is difference ?

    Hi,
    an Oracle Block constists not only of the row-data itself,
    but also has a block header.
    This is made up ofdifferent structures which will use about
    - 60 bytes of fixed administrative information for the block
    - 24 bytes per transaction slot (depending of the value inittrans there will be a number of preallocated slots for transaction pointers, default 1 for tables 2 for indexes, in every block header) this socalled ITL consists of three parts:
    - Undo segment number the transaction is using for the before images
    - Undo slot number in the undo segment
    - sequence number (this will be incremented at commit time)
    2 bytes for every row which is inserted into the block.
    Also the rows have a header each (congtaining the number of columns belonging to the row for example) and every column in a row has header also(containing the informatin of the datatype and the length of the value for the column.
    You see that there is a lot more info in a block than just the rowdata.

    I'm not sure if there is a good way to estimate how large the dumpfile from Data Pump will be.
    DeanAgreed!

  • Export minimize dump size

    hi all ;
    i have 10.2.0.2 run on Redhat. i have to take backup a schema and import it to a test db.
    this schema contains 20 tables and some of them have miilions records. i try to export of this schema and use ;
    exp system/password fille=exp.dmp log=exp.lod owner=schemaowner
    but dump size is nearly 1GB and this is too big for me. as i mentioned that this dump will use for test and i dont have to take all the records. for example last 7 days of records is enough for me.
    i cant take this export without row at least some of records is needed.
    how can i do this export and import ???
    thanks...

    Hello,
    I prefer to use Parameter Files like the following ones:
    For the Original Export:
    TABLES=(
    <schema>.<table_1>,
    <schema>.<table_2>,
    <schema>.<table_n>
    FILE=<path>\<dump_file_name>.dmp
    LOG=<path>\<log_file_name>.dmp
    COMPRESS=N
    DIRECT=Y
    For the Original Import:
    FROMUSER=<schema>
    TOUSER=<schema>
    TABLES=(<table_1>,<table_2>,...<table_n>)
    FILE=<path>\<dump_file_name>.dmp
    LOG=<path>\<log_file_name>.dmp
    IGNORE=Y
    FEEDBACK=10000Then you have just to execute the statements below:
    exp <user>/<password> PARFILE=<export_parameter_file>
    imp <user>/<password> PARFILE=<import_parameter_file>Hope this help.

  • Preview:  how to find export file size?

    Odd that I didn't find a thread on "save-as".  Are they squashed?
    I lament the loss of "Save as…", but I would be willing to accept the use of "Export…" wholeheartedly if I could predict the file size.
    One of the main ways I use Preview is to normalize images without a lot of heady image editing;  colour tweaking, size, ratio, resolution, then save JPEG's for use in iTunes cover art.  The end of this task was normalizing an image file size as a JPEG.  Now, all I see is a slider that gives me a relative file size and no indication of the absolute range I'm working within.  The only way I view my desired file size is to export, then use Finder "get info" to see the file size as disk usage.
    Is there a way to do this inside the Preview application, as a parameter of exporting, like I did before Lion?

    Thought I'd complete this thread that I found unresolved.
    In subsequent versions, the absolute value is at the bottom of the export dialogue box. If it was there or toggled at the time I asked then I couldn't find it, but it is now so problem solved.  Currently running v8.

    If I understand the question, it sounds like you just need to add the flag "ROWS=N" to your export command (I assume that you're talking about the old export utility, not the Data Pump version).

  • How-to Generate Script from the export dump file

    Hi all,
    Software : Oracle 10gR2/Windows 2003
    =============================
    Has anyone generated a Script from a export dump file ( exported via data pump export). I know it is possible to generate script from the regular export.
    I want to know how to generate the script for various objects or is it possible to get the counts of types of objects in the dump file and / or generate the script from the export dump file exported via data pump utility on Oracle 10g.
    Thanks,
    SS

    I want to know how to generate the script for various objects.what do you mean by scripts? Assuming the metadata definitions of various objects.
    First of all, you can generate the metadata definitions using import.
    Use, Impdp with SQLFILE parameter to generate the SQL file for the metadata definitions.

    Besides, could you tell me the procedures of using BRTools Export & Import to do off-line table reorgan ?
    Due to some reasons, I can't do online table reorgan.

    Hi Ming,
    I noted the OSS note 646681 - Reorganizing tables with BRSPACE in my previous message, already. You don't need any additional effort such as creating script, if you use brspace as I noted in my last message.
    Stop the SAP system, but not database then execute the command, below;
    1) brspace -u / -f tbreorg -t "CDHDR"
    2) At the incoming menu steps, select --> (8 - Table reorganization mode (mode)) .. offline
    3) Then continue with "c"
    At the end of this steps, table and related indexes will be reorganized.
    You can update statistics by using the command, below after you complete the steps, above respectfully;
    brconnect -u / -c -f stats -t all -f collect -p 4
