Export DV video on a miniDV cassette

Hello.
I edited a 11 min movie filmed in DV format with miniDV cassettes and I want to export the final project on miniDV cassette. How can I do that ?
Thanks for reading !

Does your mac recognize the camera in System Profiler as a connected FW device?
If not, the first thing I'd do, is shut everything down...unplug everything and walk away. Go have an espresso or Fischer Labelle or beverage of choice. Come back in 15-20 minutes.
Plug everything back in, turn on the camera, then turn on the mac. Make sure the camera is 'seen' by your mac in system profiler as a connected FW device, then open your project back up.
Check your settings for A/V Output...should be FW. Make sure View/All Frames is checked from the main FCP menu. Now, can you see an image on the camera display?
If so, try to crash record again or use one of the previously mentioned output methods.
If still no success, post back...could be some other issue.
Finally, please post your exact versions of FCP/OS/QT.
K
EDIT - Also, have you tried a different cassette tape and/or FW cable?

  • Importing and Exporting Video VHS and MiniDV

I just recently purchased an iMac 27-inch 3.1GHz (2TB Serial ATA Drive / 256GB Solid State Drive / 16GB Memory). I am interested in converting my family videos from my Sony camcorder (MiniDV) and VHS/DVD player.
I would prefer not to spend tons of money but I don't want poor quality either.
I have the Adobe Master Collection with the video software components. I can't recall since I am not at my computer if I have Final Cut (maybe it's Aperture I am thinking of). I have Toast Titanium but I would need to upgrade to the Pro version for better video components (but maybe I don't need to use it either).
What are some of the ways I can convert VHS and MiniDV cassettes to store it digital on my iMac or created a DVD disc?

Here is a software and device comparison chart with prices http://vhs-to-dvd-converters-review.toptenreviews.com/

  • Exporting to Video Camera - JVC GR-DVP3

Does anyone know if my camera will work for this? iMovie recognized the camera and the camera recorded but all I got was sporadic colored checkerboard patterns.
Also, is it possible to use the Apple Video Adaptor and record a DVD on a home DVD recorder? If so, how is the quality?
The reason I'm asking these questions is; I have a great looking and playing (on my computer) 72min iMovie. But as yet I can't seem to get a quality finished product. So far iMovie to iDVD has failed (twice), Quicktime produced a horrific movie (Ken Burns shimmering all over and it took me 2 weeks to make the movie and I can't bear the thought of redoing all my photos). And now I'm in the 24th hour of burning a Disc Image (to burn in Toast) and I'm not exactly optimistic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

connected via firewire, you should see more..
    Yes, firewire
You're right there is more. Images flash briefly then blue screen, the time counter stutters, no sound, fast forward shows many frames (most with black bands and blocks).
has your project and the camera the same
    video-standard (NTSC/PAL, 29.97/25fps) ?
    Both NTSC
    besides:
72min project? .. a miniDV cassette fits max.
    60min...
I have a Panasonic "Professional" 80min DVC (at SP) miniDV tape. I did notice though that both my attempts to export stopped at about 58min. The camera was set to SP.

  • Problem 108 when I try to export a video

I have a problem when I try to export a video, the quality it is, throws me the error 108, I have imovie 11 and upgraded my mac with lion ...
please help I've been all day trying to finish the video

    OK
then the things that differ from my way of using it is
    • Photos in .png - I only use .jpg (and convert all kinds to this by use of GraphicConverter (free test-version on internet)
    • Audio - Never ever .mp3  - I only use .aiff 44.1kHz (from Audio-CDs) or 48kHz 16-bit from miniDV Camera - or convert all to this by using the free audio-editor Audacity (also from internet)
Else see if You find any help in my long trouble shooting list
When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
    • iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
    • Creating a new User-Account and log into this - forces iMovie to create all pref. files new and error free
    • Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
    • a codec is used that doesn't work
    • problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
    • version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
    • preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
    • other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
    • External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
    • USB-flash-memories do not work
    • Net-work connected hard disks - do not work
    • iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
    This You do by
    _ close iPhoto
    _ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time
    • free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
    • external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
    • GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
    • Screen must be set to million-colors
    • Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
    • Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
    • Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
    • Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
    • In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
(I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)
    buenrodri wrote
I solved the problem by removing the file: 3ivxVideoCodec.component. after that, up-dated iMovie runs ok.
Last resort: Trash all of iMovie and re-install it

  • I am trying to export a video I have made in FCP 10.0.8 to Youtube or to a master file and I keep on getting an error -50, or "error exporting master file at frame 20074" Any ideas?

Having used FCExpress for a while I decided to give FC Pro X a trial, I created my first video with it, exported to youtube and it worked fine.  I am now trying to export my second video to youtube and I get an error -50 which means absolutely nothing.  Not being defeated that easy I tried exporting to a mster file using the H.264 codec and I get an error "exporting master file at frame 20074" - again another useless error.  It takes at least 10 minutes to get to this error after the rendering has started, it gets about 12% in.  Any ideas where to start - I am seriously at the point of giving up with Final Cut Pro X simply on the basis of it being more trouble than its worth - I am just glad I did not pay for it yet...
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Gerry

    Hi Russ,
Thanks for your response. I am not an experienced user of FC or other video editing software but if its that hit and miss I think I will go to the trouble of finding some better software - I have a busy enough life as is, I don;t want to get into second guessing what a software problem might be!
I have just successfully exported my video to a master file using one of the Apple codec options so it looks like it could be to do with the H.264 codec.  I am wondering if Apples Compressor software would solve this problem - the only way to try this it to buy it, there is not trial for the compressor app.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi MyAppleID99,
You may want to check to make sure the clip hasn't been moved back and forth between wide screen and standard aspect ratios; sometimes a combination of letterboxing and pillarboxing can lead to a black frame "windowbox" when playing the final video. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Help with exporting Minecraft video

Hello. My name is Reynir Aron. I make Minecraft videos and I recently switched from Final Cut Pro 7 to Premiere Pro CS6 and I love using Premiere.
However there is one little problem, when I export the video (even if I do it through Media Encoder) the video looks very smoothed out (for example the text looks really crappy and isn't pixellated).
Can anybody help me? The video is not being scaled up, the source video, my sequence and the export settings are all 1280x720.
By the way, is there any plugin or anything that lets me export using QuickTime Pro 7?
Here is a screenshot of the output I get:
This also happens if I check "Use Maximum Render Quality".
This is what I see in Premiere's Program window:
    I have an iMac8,1 (Early 2008) with a 2,8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, an ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB and I'm running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2.

I think my daughter is using FRAPS, but of course not transcoding, just putting that right into Premiere. If your captured file is 30fps, what is the transcoded ProRes file? I don't know if ProRes supports non-video settings, so maybe that is converted to 29.97? But then the edit sequence is 30fps, and I do see an issue - FIELDS is set to LOWER, but should be PROGRESSIVE. That could be causing the jaggies issue on your output.
How did you create the editing Sequence? Try creating a NEW SEQUENCE with the same settings, except make it Progressive, then copy/paste contents of interlaced sequence into the progressive sequence and then Export again, see if that helps. Or just do a short sample to check, to save time.
    Thanks
    Jeff

  • How do I export a video without a heavy blue cast

I use imovie 3. I can download and edit my movies. The finished product looks good on the computer. However, when I export, the video has a very heavy blue cast even when viewing on the computer. But, if I export as an email or web file then the colour is ok but the quality is poor. I would like to copy some of my videos on to cd's with correct colours. Any ideas??

You can only export in the same resolution that you imported.
That is if you shot in 720p you cannot export in 1080p.
Share > YouTube and select the highest resolution available.

  • How can I export a Video without making it darker than the original file?

    Hi there!
I'm working on a footage shot with the Canon 5D and since the first step in the post I exported the raw footage with Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) and worked with it in After Effects and later on FCP and then the usual Color and Compressor. But somehow every time I exported it, it got darker and darker... I tried using Animation codec instead of Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) and it didn't get dark but the files are HUGE and in the end I have to export the video in H.264 for internet. Does anybody out there have any idea what should I do and which compression should I use and how?
    Thanks a lot!
    Davi

When you say you exported the raw footage... are you working with native H.264s in FCP?

  • How to export a video at a moderate certain format and size in premiere CC 2014: No Huge File Results!

I have the latest version of Adobe Premiere, CC 2014 but whenever I want to render and export a video that is typically 70 megabytes in size I can't seem to always see how big the file will end up being for all the formats and I don't want to end up with a video larger than 250 to 300 megabytes in size just for the extremely best or highest quality even though I want the video to be well polished and in better quality than I usually get thee, These videos are usually imported as mp4. What file version of mp4 or otherwise would give me an originally imported video of 70 megabytes an output of no more than or around 300 megabytes or even less without compromsing video quality? I don't want a huge file size as I am uploading it to my YouTube channel via their web interface on another person's machine and they don't have Premiere and only has a DSL connection. So what video output settings should I use for a good quality video that isn't smaller than the original but the same size or a bit higher and not extremely large like MOVs and sometimes mp4s usually are depending on what you do to it and it is outputted.?

    Export
    Format: H.264
Preset: YouTube (make sure this matches the dimensions of your sequence)
You could further adjust the Target Bitrate but the preset is already setup for a good quality file for upload.
You can also do further reading on Video Bitrates.

I would like to use slideshow in lightroom to export my video as a full screen 1920x1080 video with text overlays.  I am using text overlay in lightroom as it reads from the metadata that is easy for me to input in the library screen.  When i export from lightroom slideshow and choose the 1920x1080 resolution the end product is a very small video in the middle of a black background.  i have double checked and do not have any borders turned on.  Another option would be to export from the library but lr mogrify does not seem to put text overlays on video either.  Any input would be welcome.

Do you have a specific question about video production?
The forums are for individual technical or creative issues that users have with video production. I am sur someone will be able to help you, but and to get a response it is best to ask a specific question.
Is this about a technical problem you have or something about setting up a web site? If its the latter this is the wrong forum.

  • Why should it take over an hour to export a video that is less than 2 minutes long?

The short clip I have is only 1;51 long, but Media Encoder has been slaving away at it for over 20 minutes and still says over an hour remaining. The only thing I am doing differently with this clip is I have sped up the action x10 to give it a "Keystone Kops" effect. (The duration of the raw video totals about 17 minutes.)  I've also added about three titles and an MP3 sound file. Tried to export first to F4V, then gave up and am now trying export to plain AVI, but it is taking forever!
Dell T3400 dual core 3.2 gHz. Two 1T hard drives in a RAID stripe 0 configuration. 4g ram. Running Windows 7 Release Candidate (which I LOVE!).
The clips are from my JVC Everio GZ-HM200BU HD camera set at lowest picture quality (for longer recording).
    Any ideas?

    OK, well... where to start...
First, as to Windows 7, I appreciate your admonishment, but I have had no problems yet that I attribute to the OS. The main reason I switched to W7 is not for bonus points, but because Explorer will natively show thumbnails of the AVCHD files from my cameras. Vista would not do that. I am sure you'd agree that this is an important and very helpful feature. No other add-in program for Vista have I found would do that for me. It may be out there, but we haven't crossed paths yet.
Secondly, I have had no other problem encoding video before this particular one. Most of the videos I produce are for our company website (http://www.topographic.com) to be viewed as a FLV or F4V file, and there have been no problems with that. I did create a video that was over 1-1/2 hours long that was written to DVD, but that took, without surprise, over 4 hours to complete, including the transcoding and DVD writing in Encore. (This one that was giving me problems is only 1-1/2 minutes in length, and is not being written to a DVD.)
This particular video I tried first in F4V, but when it seemed to be drawing out so long, I canceled and restarted it as an AVI. And that one went on for well over an hour before it finished. The main thing that is different from this video, as I explained in my original post, is that the raw video was 17 minutes long, sped up by PPro x10 for fast action (you can see it here: http://www.topographic.com/video/booth_setup.html - I am the guy in the dark blue shirt).
As a comparison, I exported another video that is not yet completed, just as a test. That video is 44 seconds long and it took only 5 minutes to encode. All things being equal, this video would have taken at least 30 minutes to encode if conditions were the same as the video I was having trouble with.  I have to believe that the problem would be the compressed timeline for speeding up the action.
As further comparison, I created a test video with the raw clips for the troublesome video and exported it to an AVI file. It was a 17-minute video which took 31 minutes to encode. This seems to be consistent with my previous test.
In all other aspects I have had no serious problems with my videos and PPro CS4. A few little niggling problems here and there, but mostly due to my inexperience with the system (as my previous postings seem to adequately bear out).
As for my being an engineer: make that former engineer. I am now an IT and communications guy. But you can see what kind of stuff I designed by looking here: http://www.geocities.com/wanorman2000/gallery.htm.
