Export EPS and WMF bugs in CS6

Hi, i'm working as senior graphic designer in a busy studio, and need help urgently!
We have been using Illustrator CS6 on PC to export vector shapes for logos used in MS Office as WMF. Logic behind this is it retains all vectors and transparency, very small file size for archiving, can be ungrouped in Office, and can be previewed by those without specialist software. Not great practice, but it works/worked.
However, we have recently seen increasing frequency of our files not exporting correctly. Curves will appear made of lots of smaller straight edges. Areas of complexity are exporting as rasterized shapes inside a group of other vectors.
We had some improvements by using EMF, better file format yes, and prints fine, but it looks terrible on screen in Office.
More recently, we are seeing similar issues in EMF too: curves broken into straight lines, areas of relative complexity being rasterized randomly. And now, gradients being rasterized, with tell-tale anti-aliasing around curves or diagonal lines, which of course have no transparency.
My suspicion is that we have corruption in Illustrator, and/or limited RAM. Is this normal?
Unfortunately we don't have admin access individually to try to reset Illustrator preferences without lengthy process of approvals from IT.
We would like to avoid having to uninstall and re-install the entire Adobe Suite due to same issue.
We have trawled the forums at Adobe and elsewhere with no luck. We are unlikely to be able to upgrade in the near future, or use 3rd party plug-ins, or get any help from in-house IT.
So, any assistance or workaround ideas are very welcome!!! Please help.
Thanks in advance to you all!

I do the same. Dislike Word, but hey, it sometimes pays the bills.
This is a logo exported from CS6 as an EMF, converted to a Word object and Edit Points selected.
So what you are describing isn't normal in my experience. I have seen some oddities with EMF exports at times, but nothing quite like you are describing. Can you share a sample file that fails in Word that doesn't belong to a client and upload it to dropbox.com or the like, then share a link?

  • InDesign exporting to PDF - .eps and .ai color issue

    I've been reviewing a lot of help forums and have played with a lot of solutions and can't seem to fix this one.
    With no updates or changes to my usual settings I've noticed an issue with my company logo when I export to PDF from InDesign CS6. Once I open the PDF all images and color spaces look fine, but the logo is muted, as if I set the opacity to 60-70% before exporting.
    It happens with both EPS and AI files. It does NOT happen when I place the logo as a JPEG, but I need transparency and quality on these PDFs. Don't say PNG please, same issue with quality.
    I don't understand how it changed when I changed nothing.
    Any guidance would be appreciated, and I know I couldn't have possiblty provide a complete set of variables, so let me know wheat else would be helpful.

    Thanks for both your responses. It appears that everythign in the original logo file and InDesign file are accurately set up. I've explored any back corners to see if something is off, but it all reads the same space/model/mode.
    I've inserted an exported image to show the issue. The file formats from top to bottom is: AI, EPS, JPEG, PNG
    Any other ideas?

  • BUG: Export DDL and Data fails for mixed case table/column names

    Hi there,
    I have found a bug in SQL Developer. See details below.
    Description:
    When "Export DDL and Data) function is used on a table/columns not named in UPPERCASE, sql generated by SQL Developer is invalid.
    Steps to reproduce:
    - open SQL Developer, connect to DB
    - make a table named "lowerCase" (in double quotes, so it won't be automatically changed to capital letters)
    - you may also add some columns, for example "lowerCol1", "UpCol2", ALLUPCOL3
    - add some data rows to the table
    - choose Tools -> Export DDL and Data
    - check exporting of tables and data, on "filter" tabs choose your "lowerCase" table
    - press "Apply"
    Error:
    Generated SQL contains invalid INSERTs: mixed-case table and columns are referenced without obligatory double quotes, which yields an error when generated script is executed (see below, relevant line is underlined)
    -- DDL for Table lowerCase
    CREATE TABLE "DBO_HT"."lowerCase"
    (     "lowerCol1" VARCHAR2(100),
         "UpCol2" VARCHAR2(100),
         "ALLUPCOL3" VARCHAR2(100)
    -- DATA FOR TABLE lowerCase
    -- FILTER = none used
    -- INSERTING into lowerCase
    Insert into lowerCase (lowerCol1,UpCol2,ALLUPCOL3) values ('lc','uc','auc');
    -- END DATA FOR TABLE lowerCase
    Remarks
    SQL Developer: version 1.2.1, build MAIN-32.13
    Oracle DBs: 9.2 & Express
    OS: Windows 2000 Professional
    If you need any more details/testing, let me know. I'd really appreciate a quick patch for this issue...
    Alternatively, do you know of any other simple way of copying a single database (it's called a schema in Oracle, right?) from one computer to another? Possibly something so simple like detaching->copying->reattaching mdf (data) files in SQL Server... I thought that this "Export DDL&Data" function will do, but as you can see I couldn't use it.
    I just need a simple solution that works - one operation on source to stuff, get the resulting files to other computer and one operation to have it running there... I think that such scenario is very basic, yet I just can't achieve it and I am simply not allowed to spend more time on it (read: our test project fails, my company rejects my "lobbying" and stays with MSSQL :/ )
    Thanks a lot & bye

    Thanks for your reply.

    You're right. I just wanted to give some very short feedback on my experiences with SQL Developer, so I didn't think starting new threads would be necessary, but as I was writing it became much bigger than I initially planned - sorry about that. I will make proper threads as soon as possible. Having "Edit post" button on this forum would also be useful.

    Generally, you're right - in most cases it's true that "switching DBMS is a major commitment" and "you will produce terrible code" if you don't learn the new one.
    However, I think that you miss one part of market here - the market that I think Express is also targeted on. I'd call it a "fire&forget databases" market; MySQL comes to mind as possibly most common solution here. It's the rather small systems, possibly web-accessed, whose data-throughput requirements are rather modest; the point is to store data at all, and not necesarily in fastest way, because given the amount of data that is used, even on low-end hardware it will work well enough. What's important here is its general ease of use - how easy is to set up such system, connect and access data, develop a software using it, how much maintenance is needed, how easy this maintenance is, how easy are the most common development tasks as creating a DB, moving a DB from test to production server etc. There, "how easy" directly translates to "how much time we need to set it up", which translates to "how much will the development will cost".
    Considering the current technology, switching the DBMS in such systems is not necesarily a major commitment and believe me that you will not produce terrible code. In many cases it's as simple as changing a switch in your ORM toolkit: hibernate.dialect = Hibernate.Dialect.OracleDialect vs MySQLDialect vs MsSql2005Dialect
    Therefore, in some part of market it's easy to switch DBMS, even on project-by-project basis. The reason to switch will appear when other DBMS makes life easier => development faster. From that point of view, I can understand my colleagues giving me an embarassing look and saying "come on, I won't read all these docs just to have db copied to test server". And it doesn't mean "they are not willing to learn anything new", it's just that they feel such basic task should have self-explaining solution that doesn't require mastering any special knowledge. And if they get such simple solutions somewhere else, it costs them nothing to change the hibernate dialect.
    I think Oracle did the great job with introducing the Express to this "fire&forget" market. The installation is a snap, it just works out of the box, nothing serious to configure, opposite to what I remember from installing and working on Oracle 9 a few years ago. In some places it's still "you need to start SQL*Plus and enter this script", but it's definitely less than before. I also find the SQL Developer a great tool, it can do most of what we need to do with the DB, it's also much better and pleasant to use over Oracle 9 tools. Still, a few basic things still require too much hassle, and I'd say taking your schema to another machine is one of them. So I think that, if you do it well, the "schema copy wizard" you mentioned might be very helpful. If I was to give any general advice for Express line of DB/tools, I'd say "make things simple" - make it "a DB you can't see".
    That's, IMHO, the way to attract more Express users.

  • Spot Color mismatches between EPS and PDF files

    Recently I created a file in Illustrator CS6 with several Pantone color swatches. I used the CMYK color mode set to the Coated GRACoL 2006 color space. I saved the file as an EPS and we printed our test samples on our large format printer. After reviewing the print I saw the colors were off. The grey color showed up green.I then opened up the exact same EPS file and simply saved it as a PDF. We ran the PDF on the same printer, using the same material and profile and the color was completely different. This time the grey colors came out grey (correctly). We tested this twice and came up witht he same color differences between the EPS files and the PDF files. Why would an Illustrator file produce 2 different colors if saved as a PDF versus an EPS?
    Also, I sent these files to another prepress person in our company and he printed them on our proofing printer. The EPS printed slightly differently than the PDF. He then opened the PDF file in Acrobat and saved it out of Acrobat as an EPS. After this, he printed the new EPS file created from Acrobat and it printed the exact same as the PDF file (correctly).
    This leads me to believe that the problem is in the way Illustrator saves EPS files. Has anyone else seen this problem?
    Thanks for any and all help with this very perplexing issue.

    I will speak from CS3.
    The current PDF format if 1.7 exported out of Photoshop supports vector elements as independent objects, but you can't edit them correctly out of Acrobat because Photoshop reads the data as a flat file and drops the vector data. Basically the workflow is not finished being developed. Also, Transparency is broken within the PDF file format at this time. It will support Spots though correctly.
    PSD and TIF support Transparency and Spots, but vector objects are rasterized due Acrobat reading the flat version of the file.
    When Photoshop wrote its own PDF format and not the corporate PDF flavor that we now have, PDF's would support Transparency correctly.
    I would assume that Transparency and vector objects would be addressed in the next release, but that is to be seen.
    There is no best practice except don't do it.

  • Image width differed from exported illustrator and coreldraw emf

    Hi,
    when exporting a 7cm width EMF image from illustrator and corel draw, the image size is getting differed when EMF is imported to framemaker.  coreldraw exported EMF gets correctly fitted in the framemaker 7cm template whereas illustrator EMF doesnt do. Do i have to do something with the framemaker  or  adobe illustrator setting. Can anyone please help?

    Hmmm. Interesting. I ran a test (and this is in FM7.1/Unix).
    I used a recent 3.11 inch wide vector image from Illustrator. Keep in mind that in vector space, the dimensions are usually to stroke center-lines, and do not account for stroke width. If I open this in Photoshop, it does account for stroke width (we use 0.22 pts) and the width is 3.142.
    I saved the image as EPS, and exported to EMF and WMF.
    FM reports the vector EPS width as 3.125 (this is probably just the 1/72 preview round-off).
    FM reports the EMF width as 3.691. The preview is blank. The image prints blank. I don't use EMF, and may have bungled this this test (or FM7.1 hasn't an ideal filter for it), but the size disparity is the same ratio you are seeing.
    FM reports the WMF image as 3.115. The preview is raster. The image prints as vector, but is degraded. It looks like all the vector coordinates have been snapped to new grid points in a fairly coarse grid.
    My suggestion: use EPS.
    Encapsulated PostScript is the oldest and most stable graphics file format that FM supports. It supports vector, raster, text or any composites thereof. It gets minimal filtering on import, and is likely passed through to the output as-is. The only downsides are a coarse (but fast) preview image (and the size jitter that comes with that). There is a workaround for the coarse preview.

  • How do I export wmv and avi files from media encoder on a mac in CC2014

    How do I export wmv and avi files from media encoder on a mac in CC2014?

    Nonsense.
    Apple Compressor has been doing wmf exports for a decade. I have the Quicktime export components from Telestream and they appear as presets in Compressor. They should be available in Media Encoder or they should be importable. Adove apparently refuses to see them. Still trying to figure that out.

  • Exporting audio and video together for Mpeg2 dvd

    Hi, I'm trying to export audio and video together for Mpeg2 dvd.. I changed  multiplexing to DVD but is still exporting seperately is there something im missing? thanksa

    To add, with Multiplexing set to NONE, check what the Audio format is set to. If "PCM", this is an uncompressed .wav file and will result in export of .m2v video and .wav audio (I think Mac uses .aif) and use "Import as Timeline" in Encore for both clips at once. Encore will automatically transcode the audio to Dolby AC-3, do NOT mess with settings in Encore, defaults are correct. If you have CS6, then in AME audio settings, there is an option for Dolby and you can use that to create the .ac3 audio and then Encore does NOT do any transcoding to audio or video. Note that older versions will also show "Dolby" but that is a free trial of a surround encoder, not the same. You just want the stereo option available in CS6, or use PCM option is fine

  • [CS4 / Win] Could you give me idea how to export indd to WMF?

    Hello,
    My task is exporting InDesign document to WMF.
    I tried to do the following:
    1. created kWindowViewPortBoss boss:
    InterfacePtr<IWindowPortData> pWinPortData(::CreateObject2<IWindowPortData>(kWindowViewPortBoss));
    2. got IWindowPortData interface and set SysPort which I created before:
    pWinPortData->Set(hWnd, hDC);
    3. created context for IDrawMgr::Draw:
    InterfacePtr<IViewPort> pViewPort(pWinPortData, UseDefaultIID());
    AGMGraphicsContextWith<AGMAcquireCoordSys, AGMAcquireClip> context(pViewPort.get(), PMMatrix());
    4. called IDrawMgr::Draw:
    InterfacePtr<IDrawMgr> pDrawMgr(pWinPortData, UseDefaultIID());
    piDrawMgr->Draw(&context, page_item_ref, 0);
    The InDesign falls on IDrawMgr::Draw with access violantion error
    Is my way of exporting right?
    Which of my steps are not right?
    May be is there simpler method of exporting indd to wmf?
    Could you suggest to me directions where to look for solution of my problem?

  • Why can't I copy an image or vector from Illustrator CC and paste to Fireworks CS6?

    Why can't I copy an image or vector from Illustrator CC and paste to Fireworks CS6? This was possible with Illustrator CS6. I know they are different versions but since there is no Fireworks CC, is there a fix update???

    Yes, other users have complained about that. Unfortunately, Fireworks' development was halted a year ago, and I would be surprised if Adobe spends any money or time to fix bugs and interoperability issues in Fireworks. I would not expect any real updates or fixes.
    Tough to swallow, but FW is dead in the water and EOL'ed.

    Thanks for trying to help. Some how I managed to do it-but I did it some kind of meatball way. I kept clicking into the image until everything was selected...then I grouped it all and exported as fxg because I do not have the eps option. Somehow it worked, But I have 20 of these to do and this is def not the right way to do it. Hope someone else can wise me up. Thank-you for your help.
    You did not have to group it you could have exported the image or the selection only or the movie in the FXG format (Flash Exchange Graphic) and what is wrong with doing it a newer and better way. FXG is supported in Flash Catalyst as is Illustrator and Photoshop FXG can be exported from Illustrator so you use the file in Flash more readily and though Photoshop does not support FXG that might change.
    I am leased they finally came up with a rational method of exporting to and from Illustrator and Flash.
    Eps was never the right way since Flash is not a postscript application.
    You found the right way and format you just went about it in an unusual and unneccessary way.
    Next time if you want all the art choose image instead of selection if you only need some elements of the art select them export choosing selection only that art will be exported no need to group.
    if you want the whole movie then again choose the whole movie of course that will be a motion type format not FXG.
    Anyway you sort of did it the right way.

  • Portal Import/Export problems and questions

    I recently tried to promote our dev stuff to the prod using both the exp/imp scripts (following the Imp/Exp whitepaper) and the built-in application export. The first time went without a hitch; however, after a few report updates in dev, I tried it again, and now I can't even get the Welcome page to appear. (Yes, I did import that page). The page finishes loading but nothing shows up on screen. I can login in to the change the DADs but nill to Portal. Any ideas how to even get in to see if the stuff imported?
    Along those lines, after searching through these threads, and reading the documentation, I get the general feel that imp/exp are not at 100%. So what would be the procedure to do production promotions? Do I have to delete stuff (apps & pages) on the PROD server, and then import? If so what (apps?, security?, login server?) do I delete?

    No, I did not make any changes to the Welcome page when I imported it.
    <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>>When you say that the page comes up blank, did you check the HTML source to see if there is anything in there?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
    Yes, and there is something in there. Its the W3C tag and <HTML></HTML>. That's it. (more on this below)
    <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>>What kind of portlets are in the page that you had imported?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
    I imported one application (with a combination of Reports, Forms, Dyn Pages, and LOV's), 7 pages with portlets based on all those components in tabbed interfaces on each page. For example, each page has 4 tabs with one portlet (running one of the reports) on each tab.
    <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>>Are you able to get to the pages that you imported, through the Navigator. Can you edit/customize the page?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
    Well this is funny, since I couldn't get to anything, I thought I was a goner since I couldn't log in to get to the main page and fix all this, not to mention to see if the app imported at all. So, I went to my DEV box, found out what the page_id was for the out-of-the-box default page, typed it into the URL and I got the Login link. I logged in and I can see that the app imported. I can also see the pages, but with no portlets. When I try to add portlets, I get USER DEFINED ERRORS galore. So I have to recreate the pages from scratch (not a very good thing to be doing in PROD)
    <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>>Try creating another page in your new prod instance and making that your default home page. Please can you check if that is working.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
    As I mentioned above, this is basically what I had to do. I did another promotion last night, and since the pages are what I thought the trouble was, I didn't import them. I just imported sso, sec, and the app. To my dismay, the same thing happened. I call portal home and I get a blank screen (empty HTML tags). So there I was, well into the night, creating pages in PROD so that we could have a site to show today.
    Since someone else gave me the CD to install, I wasn't aware of the version I had and its bugs/issues. I have started the process of upgrading versions, but would like to get a solid idea of whats going with promotions before I do.
    Thanks,

  • Corrupted exported EPS file (ID CS3, Q2ID, Quark)

    Hello:
    We have a new Intel-based aluminum iMac (running Mac OS 10.5.5) which has Adobe CS3 and the Q2ID 1.5 plug-in. We have noticed that when we convert a Quark document to InDesign, and then export the ID document to an EPS, the EPS file seems to be corrupted and cannot be opened.
    However, when we run this same exact procedure on an iMac G5 with Q2ID 1.5 and Adobe CS2, there are no problems opening the exported EPS. We have also opened some ID files in ID CS3 and exported them to EPS (on the Intel iMac), and those have not had any problems.
    Has anyone else had any reports of similar issues with Q2ID 1.5 on an Intel Mac? Since the ID file export fine, it seems to point the issue towards Q2ID 1.5, which is not a Universal Binary application, which could potentially be an issue.
    Chad

    We use EPS images to print out on labels.
    The problem we've found with INX files was that they were incredibly slow to open when trying to share files between CS3 and CS2. Unless we're missing something, I'm surprised that ID CS3 doesn't offer a way to save down to an older version of InDesign, in the fashion that Illustrator can save to older versions.

    Don't export out as EPS. Simply print to a .ps file using the
    Acrobat
    Distiller PPD. In doing this not only will you get the full
    page but
    you can add crop marks, registration marks, separation color
    names, etc.
    Be sure to add extra page size in the FreeHand Print Setup
    dialog to
    allow for bleed and printing marks. Then distill the .ps
    file. This is
    the most reliable method of generating a print quality PDF
