Export Faces (and only faces)

Hi there,
Aperture has this nice face detection algorithm that sometimes
does some nice work. Faces are found, and in aperture, you can see
the faces only, with a nice crop around them that only shows the
faces and not the rest of the picture.
I would like to know whether there is a way to export these faces
alongside with their crops; that is, I want exported pictures that only
contain the nicely cropped pictures, not the original pictures.
Is this possible in aperture? An export command that automatically exports
the faces only?

hi again,
finally made it.
what you have to do:
1. manually drag pictures that include the person's faces you'd like to have into a folder on your desktop or whereever. therefore you could have used smart folders to filter out wanted pics / persons
2. quit aperture
3. start aperture while holding down "Alt" create new library
4. use faces again on the pics and tag/select them
5. once you're done close apertue
6. go to the newly created library and show package content
7. search for files including "_face" will show you all cropped faces of all the pictures in your new library unfortunately including all (and so even unwanted) faces
8. select the ones you'd like and have fun!
well not too easy way how to do it, but al least better than cropping each face you want manually...
I hope this may have helped others!
cheers
Chris

  • Trinidad faces and JSF faces not optimized for android web-browser.

We are developing Mobile based application using Oracle ADF Mobile (Jdev R1). Trinidad Faces and JSF faces are rendering optimized on all smart phones (i.e. iPhone, Blackberry and windows) except Android (linuxwebkit) web browser. On Android web-browser page rendering as render in desktop browser.
    any idea please?
    thanks
    yousuf

    Hi,
copying the answer I provided on the Stack Overflow forum to the same question:
Apparently you are correct and the ADF Mobile developer guide for 11g R1 doesn't mention Android as a target platform: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/web.1111/e10140/toc.htm
    However, JDeveloper 11g R2 does : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E26098_01/web.1112/e16178/toc.htm
Just search for "Android" and you see what I mean. As you mention the base technology is Apache MyFaces Trinidad and the version of Trinidad thus determines the support for mobile devices.
Apparently JDeveloper 11g R2 uses the Trinidad libraries (JSF 2) that support the Android platform while JDeveloper 11g R1 does not.
Given that Trinidad 1.2 supports Android (though it might not have been tested as mentioned here: http://myfaces.apache.org/trinidad/devguide/mobile.html) you should be able to create your own skin for Android as documented here: http://myfaces.apache.org/trinidad/devguide/mobileSkinning.html
The RequestContext object in Trinidad returns the calling agent and you may want to check first if this returns Android. If it does then creating and applying a skin is easy to do.

  • JavaServer Faces and Struts

For those of you interested in using JavaServer Faces and Struts together (and my mailbox indicates that this is quite a few people :-), I'm happy to announce the immediate availability of an integration library that allows you to use the EA3 release of JavaServer Faces with a recent nightly build (20030216 or later) of Struts 1.1 -- it will also work with the upcoming 1.1-rc2 and 1.1-final releases -- together. Nightly builds of the integration library are available at <http://jakarta.apache.org/builds/jakarta-struts/nightly/struts-faces/>.
The sources for this package are in the Struts CVS repository, in the "contrib/struts-faces" directory, and will be included in the source nightly distributions starting with the 20030307 version. It is not currently planned to include the struts-faces integration library with binary distributions of Struts 1.1, since it is still an EA quality release.
See the README.txt file (included in the nightly build) for more information on running the example application and using the integration library in your own applications.

What are the reasons not to have extended
    RequestProcessor from Struts with the
capabilities of the FacesServlet... a sort of
    "FacesProcessor" (extended the regular
RequestProcessor)? (should be nice for views
with no JSF components: in order not to execute
FacesServlet for each views , event if there is
no JSF component in the view)It turned out that I needed a customized RequestProcessor anyway (a couple of the processXxx methods had to work differently), but it actually would have been more work incorporating FacesServlet directly into it. In essence, there is now (in the combined version) a "front controller" for UI events , FacesServlet, and a "middle controller" for form submit events (RequestProcessor). When a UI event happens that just causes the current page to be redisplayed (think of a tree control where you click on the "expand this node" icon), you don't really want the Struts controller servlet to even be bothered by this request. Indeed, if you're using a presentation that was based on DHTML+Javascript, such an event would have been handled on the client anyway, and would never have been sent to the server at all.
The combined approach still supports Faces and non-Faces pages, though. This means you can migrate one page at a time and test things (which is exactly what I did when I ported the pages of the example app).

  • Export Masters to include star ratings, places, faces, and tags?

I have 25,000 photos at about 2.5 mb each that I have imported into Aperture. The original import file was about 60gb. The current Aperture file is about 205gb. If I export masters, I get a file that is 60gb (same aas the orignal import file. If I export versions, I get a file that is about 150gb. During import, I may have had the import adjustment preset at "quick fixes"; possibly creating a new version for all 25,000 photos.
I tried importing orignal masters with no auto adjustments ad by setting previews at lower quality and the dimensions that match my macbook pro with about a 40% change in file size.
All of my photos have now been adjusted, tagged, geo-tagged, and facial recognized. I do not want t lose that.
I am trying to export the masters to an external drive with all of my star ratings, places, faces, and tags in order to import them to a smaller file.
Once, I get all of my adjusted photos into Aperture, I do not really care about the masters.
How do I export my master files with all of the tags? Or how do I export my versions without having to keep the bloated file of 150gb instead of 60gb? What is attached to the versions that would more than double th efile size?
    Thank you

    Sunblock,
Once, I get all of my adjusted photos into Aperture, I do not really care about the masters.
Don't take this the wrong way, but what you are trying to accomplish goes agains the most basic design of Aperture.  Aperture is intended to keep your masters safe and unadulterated, while giving you the opportunity to export your versions on demand.
If I export masters, I get a file that is 60gb (same aas the orignal import file. If I export versions, I get a file that is about 150gb.
Your versions do not take up 150 GB in the Aperture library.  They take up several K for the "recipe", and then some small thumbnails and preview images.  The only reason you see that the versions are 150 GB is because you exported them and looked at what Aperture generated at your request.
How do I export my master files with all of the tags? Or how do I export my versions without having to keep the bloated file of 150gb instead of 60gb? What is attached to the versions that would more than double th efile size?
Your masters are supposed to stay exactly the same as when you imported them.  However, when exporting masters, you can choose, in the Metadata selection, to "Include IPTC"; this includes some of the metadata.  I am unsure of the exact items it includes, though.  Some of the things you can do in Aperture are not supported by general metadata formats.
As for exporting the versions, you don't get a "bloated file". Rather, you get many (25000?) files.  Depending on your export preset, it is entirely possible that each exported version is larger than its corresponding imported master.  Check the "Export Preset" selection when you export versions to see what format Aperture is making.  There is nothing "attached" to versions.  Each one is a completely independent picture file.
I am trying to export the masters to an external drive with all of my star ratings, places, faces, and tags in order to import them to a smaller file.
Not sure what you are getting at here.  What do you mean by "import them into a smaller file?"  Do you mean that you want to get rid of your Aperture library package (which is actually hundreds of thousands of files) and replace it with a different Aperture library which is smaller?  Again, you might want to rethink this.  It is not what Aperture is intended for -- you are giving up good, quality photos for something inferior.  Why do you want to replace your photos with something inferior?

  • How can I synchronize my iPhoto events? my iTunes doesn't read them and with the app Images in the iPad I can only find Photos, Albums, Faces and Places, not Events.

How can I synchronize my iPhoto events? my iTunes doesn't read them and with the app Images in the iPad I can only find Photos, Albums, Faces and Places, not Events.

I had a problem a couple of months ago when iPhotos suddenly rearranged the order of my Events (Why won't iPhoto let me arrange my photos?) .  I was told "Use albums not events - events are not a good way to organize - albums and folder are designed for organisation and are very flexible".
Haha!  I should have paid attention and read between the lines!  My iPhotos were highly organised groupings - not according to date but the way I wanted them - and it was so easy to do!  I see now that if I had them all in albums, as per the Apple Apologist suggestion, I wouldn't have this unholy mess I have been left with just to make iPhone & iCloud users happy.  I am now going through Photos and making Albums (of what used to be in my Events)  ... maybe I'll get this finished before they do another non user friendly update!

Doesn't matter.  That store is likely selling illegit iphones, brought oin from somewhere else.
The fact remains the UAE government does not allow Facetime on iphones legitimately sold there.

  • Near Dead Ipod - Only shows black screen with apple logo and sick face ipod

I would be very grateful for any help.
I bought my 60GB ipod in the summer of 2005, whatever generation that makes it. Until recently it's been a little glitchy - sometimes the screen would appear to be functioning normally, but songs would not play. For example track 1 would look like it was about to play, then skip to track 2, then 3, and so forth. I had to force restart it regularly.
Today I connected my ipod to my macbook and itunes appeared to start (bounced in the dashboard) then failed to launch. The ipod screen looked as though it was connected (flashing red sign) but did not mount on screen. I tried to force quit itunes, but that didn't work and the computer froze. I did a force restart of the computer with the ipod plugged in, and it took very long to restart. The whole time, the ipod screen continued to flash the red sign. I unplugged the ipod and force restarted it.
Now, when I press menu, the black screen comes up with the apple logo, then periodically switches to a screen with an ipod with a sick face and "www.apple.com/support/ipod listed under it. I can hear a clicking sound when I hold it up to my ear.
I've got 40 gigs of music on it and I'd very much like to get that off since much of it is not backed up. Am I screwed?

    Likely a hard drive failure
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
For old and other versions of iPod updater for window you can get here
    http://www.ipodwizard.net/showthread.php?t=7369
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.

    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ or ifixit at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
    http://www.ifixit.com/
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

I am not suggesting that you should follow as well, but just read them as your reference. You are the person to make the call.
Finally, I read a fair comments from dwb, regarding of slapping the back of the iPod multiple times
Quote “This has been discussed numerous times as a 'fix'. It does work, at least for a while. In fact I remember using the same basic trick to revive Seagate and Quantam drives back in the mid to late 1980's. Why these tiny hard drives go bad I don't know - could be the actuator gets stuck in place or misaligned. Could be the platter gets stuck or the motor gets stuck. 'Stiction' was a problem for drives back in the 80's. Unfortunately the fix can cause damage to the platter so we temporarily fix one problem by creating another. But I know of two instances where a little slap onto the table revived the iPods and they are still worked a year or more later.”UnQuote

  • My ipad 2 photos has only 3 icons, i dont have faces and events icon? icon for faces, My ipad 2 photos has only 3 icons, i dont have faces and events icon? icon for faces

My ipad 2 photos has only 3 icons, i dont have faces and events icon, and how can i make an album.. Ive got 800 photos in one album..

I would add to King Penguin's comment and say that Places also only works with photos that are tagged with geographical information (knows as geotagging to us photographers).  I've done this with my photos and it's really cool.  You basically tap the Place tab in Photos and a map of the world is displayed with pins showing the areas of where the photos were taken.  Touch on a pin and you get the photos associated with that area.  Neat-o!

  • Aperture 3 and scanning faces

I installed Aperture 3 and the GPS scanning worked fine but I am having trouble with Faces. It shows a progress bar and only about 5% after 5 hours. I let the computer run overnight but this morning my MBpro wouldn't wake up. What should I do? Could it take more than 5 or 6 mins to wake up? It didn't sound busy (no HD noise). I have about 20k images (130gb worth)

The Library file page in the User Manual is a good place to start:
    Working with Library Files
Aperture lets you select Images and/or Projects, and export them as a Library.  You can then either use this Library, or import it into another Library.  When you import, you are given the option to either merge (useful if you have exported from the Library into which you are importing) or copy.
In general, it is advised that you put as many files in one Library as possible.  The standard exceptions are multiple photographers not working for the same company, images that need to be sequestered for legal reasons, and special collects that are not based on a single photographer (mainly scanned archives, but ****, too).  The reason for keeping your Library big is that the Library is an index of everything in it.  The more that's in it, the easier it is to find.
If the number of Images that you don't want to ever have show up when you use Faces is not large, just delete the Faces Position Box from them.  This can be done by clicking the "x" if the box is showing, or right-clicking a proposed Face and selecting "Not a face".

  • Losing Events, Places, Faces and other problems in iPhoto

Bought the new iMac in January; carefully transferred photos from old G4 and took ages updating the details using the great events/places/faces etc facility. Recently 2 things happened - I bought a new camera (Nikon D500); imported and updated event/place/face etc; all working fine. Days later got an upgrade iPhoto message - dutifully did so. Next time opened iPhoto got message to upgrade database - did so. I think there was a message reporting that this was necessary to secure the database; but I was not really concentrating on this merely assuming that my "new" software would not create any problems (how wrong could I have been?!)
    RESULT?
    - lost ALL place/face details;
    - photos still grouped as Events folder but only with with the old camera date format.
    - "Albums" directory with titles from old iPhoto version on G4 machine re-appeared!
    - In Finder file-path from root Pictures>iPhoto>Library>[subdirectories by year etc] replaced by a single iPhotodatabase that can only be accessed by opening using iPhoto
    - iPhoto created a "recovered photos" subfolder in "albums".
I also notice that the Browse facility used to attach photos in Mail is also rendered useless - clicking one photo fails to attach a photo; i can click and drag one photo into an e-mail; but this goes into the e-mail body rather than as an attached item.
Any suggestions that allow me to recover the information so painstakingly entered will be useful.
I notice a lot of comments suggesting problems with iPhoto 8.1.1 - but I cannot see anything on the site similar to my problem - is this something that Apple are aware of and working on?
    Steve

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Lets clear some things up first:
In Finder file-path from root Pictures>iPhoto>Library>subdirectories by year etc replaced by a single iPhotodatabase that can only be accessed by opening using iPhoto
This is normal. Since iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Package File. This is simply a folder that looks like a file in the Finder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. (See below for details on how to access your files)
I also notice that the Browse facility used to attach photos in Mail is also rendered useless - clicking one photo fails to attach a photo; i can click and drag one photo into an e-mail; but this goes into the e-mail body rather than as an attached item.
This is normal. That's how Mail works with Photos in an Email. Altering that is a matter for Mail. Elect to send Plain Text Emails. Note that how the email looks on your Mac has very little bearing on how it will appear on the receivers machine. It's pretty much 100% dependent on the setting on their email client.
As to the missing Faces/Places etc. This sounds like a damaged database file:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
Failing that, restore from your back up.
    As promised:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.

  • Aperture constantly generating previews and thumbnails and detecting faces

After starting Aperture or scrolling in the browser part of the Split View Aperture starts to generat previews and thumbnails and detecting faces, staling all my work in Aperture for a long time. After a while it is done, but start again if I start scrolling a lot in the browser or restarting Aperture. Aperture does not crash but it is it takes forever to work since it stalls everything. I can also se that after working for about ten minutes in Aperture almost all of my memory is gone. After a freshly restarted Mac I have about 13 GB of memory and after about ten minutes of work it is down to a few hundred MB. After closing Aperture I only get back about 8 GB of memory.
    I have tried the following:
    * Rebuilding thumbnails for all picture
    * Force rebuilding previews for all pictures (Holding down the Option key)
    * Reprocessed Originals for all pictures
    * Repaired permissions
    * Repaired database
    * Rebuilt database
    * Deleted aperture.plist file
All of the above completed without errors, but I still have the same problem. I also tried to un-check “Maintain Previews For Project” and “New projects automatically generate previews” but with no luck (This is off course not a solution but a workaround).
    What else can I do?
    I hav the following:
    - iMac, late 2009
    - 16 GB memory
    - Aperture 3.5.1 (Had the same problem in Aperture 3.4.5 and possibly even before)

Is Aperture more responsive, if you defer the generation of previews by holding down the Shift-key when launching Aperture?
Feels a bit better but still regenerating previews.
Also, have you checked, if Aperture is more responsive, when you are working with a different Aperture library?
I tried creating a new library in two different ways using all pictures from my project "2010" which I know contains pictures that Aperture keeps regenerating previews from. First I exported the project as a new aperture library, but when I opened that new library it also kept regenerating pictures. Next I exported all originals from that project and imported them in a new aperture library and success. No more regeneration of previews. But I don't think it is a solution because I have over 23 000 pictures in my library and I will loose all adjustments, stacks and faces doing this to the rest of the pictures.
As to running out of memory - there have been reports, that "On Screen Proofing" might be causing this, disable it (from the View menu), if it is turned on, see this post:  Re: Aperture 3.5 repeatedly crashes as 'memory full' despite 32GB RAM
"On Screen Proofing" was not on. But to be sure I tried to toggle the menu item but it did not get checked, until I understood that I had to select a Proofing Profile first. After that I selected and unselected "On Screen Proofing", but it did not help.
Do you use any Aperture plug-ins?
I had an old plug-in for exporting to Picasa which I don't think works anymore so I removed it, but it did not help.
Is your Aperture library referenced or managed?
    I have a managed library.
    And where is it stored?
The Aperture library is stored on my local hard drive in the shared directory. I hade plans to share it with other users on my computer but because of these problems I have not gone forward with those plans yet.

  • Dynamic faces and Internet Explorer

Thanks for taking a second to read my post, i hope you can help. I am almost complete with my web app using Netbeans VWP and Dynamic Faces. I have come across a simple application that i can not get working in Internet Explorer and as simple as it is I am surprised that it is not working. I cant believe that the Dynamic Faces team would just ignore compatability with IE altogether. Basically i am trying to get AJAX interaction going on by adding text into a textbox and adding a new DynaFaces.fireAjaxTransaction(this); to the submit however it does not seem to work. Maybe you can help...

I think you have two options. You can open most modal subVI panels
directly on a remote machine. The popup panels won't be in a web page,
but it will work with few changes.
A second approach would be to change the app slightly. The buttons that
launch the subVIs will turn into URL links. The links will open a web
page with a different embedded panel.
