Export file as tiff from illustrator

you can do this from the menus but can you do it from a script
e.g. the javascript reference doesn't seem to have a tiff export type:
ExportType :
FLASH
GIF
JPEG
PHOTOSHOP
PNG24
PNG8
SVG
AutoCAD
any ideas ? If it's available from the application menu /dialog surely
you should be able to script it ?

sorry , wrong forum , reposted to illustrator :)

  • How to remove banding from exported images (png, tiff) from illustrator layout with gradient

is there any way to remove or reduce banding that I am getting in a layout I've done that contains a gradient? I am exporting raster images (png or tiff) and there is a noticeable stepping of tonalities, rather than a smooth shift
    thanks

In an 8bit format like PNG you only have 1024 unique levels...
    1024 is 10 bits. 8 bits is 256.
But PNG is an RGB 8-bit per channel format. That yields 256^3 (i.e.; 24-bit or 16.7 million) potential "levels" (colors).
...banding that I am getting in a layout...
Banding that you are getting where?
What are the specific color values involved?
    What is the final use?
What will be the distance across the gradient in its final use?
You have to consider whether the banding is actually in the raster image, or if it is merely an artifact of where/how the image is being viewed.
Banding is not a simple matter of image color depth. Banding is a device-dependent phenomena. The banding you see on your monitor is not the same banding that will be seen on your grayscale laser printer; is not the same banding that will be seen on your CMYK inkjet printer; is not the same banding that will be seen on press. Banding in print is generally more a function of levels of gray (per separation) of the imaging device, and can vary depending on the halftone ruling (assuming conventional AM screening).
Depending on the answers to the questions above, you may very well be fretting over nothing.

  • Why does the image go blurry when I export my file to jpeg from Illustrator CS6?

    Hi,
I have created an image on illusrator CS6 and am ready to save it.
I have saved it as a pdf format and the image stays as a sharp vector image and not blurry at all.
But I also want to keep the image as a jpeg. So when I go to export the image from illustrator CS6 as a jpeg, the end result comes out blurry and not sharp anymore, but more jagged on the edges of the image.
Is there anything I can do to keep my file as a jpeg with it staying as a sharp crisp image?

The image above is a screenshot of the ai.file
Above - second image is the screenshot of my export settings
the 3rd image above is a close up zoomed in part of the image - the edges are jagged and blurry

  • Exported graphics with text from Illustrator - text is very fuzzy

I am creating graphics in Adobe Illustrator CS3 on a Mac running OSX. The graphics consist of a pie chart and extra explanatory text below it. I do not have the option of doing the text part in another program.
When I exported as a jpg, put the graphic into Dreamweaver, and then put it onto the web, the text was fuzzy. When I used the Save to Web options, it was even fuzzier.
I use the default settings for both the jpg export and the Save to Web (gif and jpg) because I'm not sure what they all mean.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Jacob,
I looked at anti-aliasing and it was already checked for everything I've tried. I looked at the Save for Web gif file settings, and am not sure I understand what you are suggesting. Transparency has been checked for everything I've done. No dither is selected for the setting under that (rather than Diffusion, Pattern, or Noise Transparency Dither) - I don't know what that means.
I tried both jpg and gif using Save as for the Web. For jpg, I used maximum resolution, Progressive and ICCProfile were not checked, optimized is checked, quality at 100, blur at 0, matte is empty, and under Image Size, anti-aliasing and proportions settings are both checked and clip to artboard is not.
For gif, I used mostly defaults: selective, diffusion, transparency checked, No transparency dither (as mentioned), interlaced is not checked, image size anti-aliasing is checked and clip to artboard is not. Lossy is 0, colors 256, dither 100%, matte is blank, Amt 10% is grayed out and unchangeable, and web snap 0%. I don't even know what most of that is for.
When I did all of this, the images were more fuzzy than the one where I just exported from Illustrator as a jpg, which is also too fuzzy.
The only thing that comes to mind immediately is would this work better if all of the text were changed to outlines? And does anything else come to you that I may have not done?
Also, just in case you see my screen name, I changed it in between my post and this reply. msbnbb and Early Music Lover are both me.
    Thanks for your help,
    Marcy

  • How can I save a text file to disk from Illustrator ?

    Hi,
I was looking through the Javascript reference and couldn't find anything related to writing strings to a text file on disk.
Is this possible ? If so where should I look ?
Otherwise, can I run a bit of code in Terminal/CommandPrompt from Illustrator (.e.g. echo 'Hello!' >> file.txt) ?

Here's something that I think Muppet Mark or Carlos Canto posted earlier
    #target illustrator
    var textFile = File('~/Desktop/AI.txt');
    var doc = app.activeDocument;
    var docText = '';
    for (var i = 0; i < doc.textFrames.length; i++)
              docText += doc.textFrames[i].contents + '\r';
    textFile.open('e');
    textFile.write(docText);
    textFile.close();

  • How to export or print PDF from Illustrator with crop and reg marks?

    Hi all,
I realise this is probably a very obvious question, but I've just upgraded from CS3 to CS5.5, and I'm tearing my hair out with the loss of Adobe PDF printer driver. I've looked on forums and can't find this question - prob. so obvious that no one else has asked it.
Can't seem to export as PDF from Illustrator ,only 'save as'. This doesn't give me my crop marks. I've tried putting in crop marks - Effects/Crop Marks - but this places the marks outside my trim, at the edges of my background image, which comes out 2mm all round for bleed purposes.
How can I set crop marks to denote the dimensions of the page size, regardless of how much crap I've got spilling out over the edges for bleed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers!
PS: Bring back the PDF Printer Driver pleeeease!

You can turn on crop & trim marsk when doing a save as to PDF. But turn on some bleed values greater than 0 (not  as in my screenshot) or you will not get any bleed of your artwork, just the marks then.

  • Black frames at the end of an exported file when converting from 60p to 24p

I have another export issue that I can't figure out.
I import footage I shot at 23.98fps (on a JVC HD100) using a Kona LH card at 59.94fps DVCPro HD, in which it has a 2:3 cadence. I need to make files that are actually 23.98p DVCProHD. Unfortunately, when I export in Final Cut from the 59.94 original, the new 23.98 file has all of the image, exported correctly, followed by a number of black frames such that the total number of frames in the exported file equals the number of frames in the original file. That is:
    If the original 59.94 file was 3s long, that is 60 * 3 = 180 frames. The exported 23.98 file also has 180 frames, but only 3s of image = 3 * 24 = 72 frames, followed by 180 - 72 = 108 frames = 4s 12frames of black.
How can I prevent this from happening, and end up with an exported file that is (e.g.) just the 3s of image, and not 7.5s of which 4.5s are black?
It's true that I can manually clip this black off, but I need to do many clips as a batch, and would really not have to change one clip at a time. It is also true that I can do a batch in compressor, and that this process does not suffer this problem -- that is, there is no extra black -- however, there is another problem: the original 59.94 DVCProHD files are actually 1280x720 with square pixels; the files exported from FCP via the KONA DVCProHD codec maintain this true HD proportion, but the ones exprted through compressor (which does not appear to support the KONA LH implementation of DVCProHD as an option) have the size 960x720 with anamorphic pixels, and I would rather keep the original size. Thus, I would rather export from fcp. If anyone has any insight into how I might resolve this....
    Thanks,
    Robert Schaller

Thanks. If I understand you correctly, it does seem to export correctly if I paste the 59.94 clip into a 23.98 sequence (you can't nest sequences that have different time bases) and export from there, and it doesn't even have to specify square pixels, etc.: the AJA codec implementation seems to take care of that. There is no longer any extra black, so, per file, that gives the right result.
That, however, is only one part of the problem, though a significant part. Next is, I really would like to do this as a batch process, as I tend to have many clips to do at one time. As soon as I try any kind of batch export, I end up with one of two problems:
    1) if I try to batch export from fcp, I'm back to having extra black frames, or
    2) if I try to batch export with compressor, I get 960x720 files.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to get the right files in a batch, that would be the next step. Is fcp scriptable? And, if so, can you write a script that takes a clip, pastes it into a blank 23.98 DVCPro timeline, sets the correct in and out points (i.e, in at the beginning and out 1 before the end), exports it with a specified codec and time base, with a name based on the source clip, and then repeats that as needed?
    Thanks for any input --
    Robert Schaller

  • Exporting file to pdf from internet, the document its in blank or incomplete

When i export a file to pdf from internet, the document is in blank or incomplete. Its the same if i donwload in a PC or opening online. The trouble is only in this PC, and i try with diferent browsers.
I try deleting temporary files, upgrading a latest version of Reader and modifying the security configuration in the browser.
    Any idea?

    Hi da23841142,
What are you using to export the file to PDF? Or, are you simply downloading a PDF file from the Internet, and then trying to view it in Reader? What version of Reader are you using, and are you on Mac OS or Windows?

  • Could renaming export file stop videos from playing

I am puzzled as to why the videos embedded in a swf file play
okay within the swf file, but do not play okay on my website. I
have made sure that the swf file and respective flv files are all
uploaded to the server, but none of the videos play.
Pretty well much I followed this tutorial
    http://multimedia.journalism.berkeley.edu/tutorials/flash/building-flash-templates/adding- video/
I put a FLVPlayback component on my Flash stage.
I encoded my videos in the CS3 video encoder and followed the
settings given in the above tutorial link. I did not resize or crop
the videos, I set the quality to medium and I gave my videos a name
    prior to encoding it.
After encoding the film, I highlighted the FLVPlayback
Component and in the parameters found the content path and then
linked that to my encoded videos one by one. Then I saved my
worked, played it in the movie tester and then I exported my swf
file to my Dreamweaver folder, but I did rename my exported file
(it is not the same name as my Fla file). Could that make a
difference? I also put my Flv videos in the same folder as my swf
file and uploaded them to my server. I put the swf file on my html
page and then uploaded that to my server. My website shows the swf
file but the videos do not appear at all.
I would be grateful to know if you see anything wrong with my
working process here. Could the renaming of the exported file have
caused the problem? Or, if an avi video is encoded more than once
    does that make a difference?
I have other swf files up on line that show video, so dont
quite understand why this time it is not working.
For those interested the problem file is at
    http://www.marykingmedia.com/marykingmediafive/index.html
But a swf file with embedded video that plays fine online is
    at
    http://www.marykingmedia.com/marykingmediafour/index.html
Id be grateful for help here.
    Thanking you.

A Web designer can code the page to "force" QuickTime (or its plug-in) to be associated to the file type.
If QuickTime can handle the format the page code will decide how the file is used.
The QuickTime Control panel offers the viewer some control over file types. Remove the check mark for .mp3 and relaunch your browser (for the change to take effect).
In theory the viewer should be able to choose which application or plug-in handles a file format. In practice it doesn't always work that way.

  • Exporting layout as Photoshop from Illustrator CS6 but some of the layers keep mergering

I have created a layout in Illustrator (CS6) and seperated the individual images I require into named layers. My intention is to export as a Photoshop file (keeping all the layers), then using 'Script' in Photoshop to 'Export layers to files..', so I can get automatically save all the elements in the layout as individual transparent png.
When I export the files as Photoshop a warning comings up saying that 'some layer have been merged' and then when I open this file in Photoshop, all but a couple of text layers have been merged into 1 layer. I think it's something to do with the transparencies set in Illustrator but don't know how to resove this.
If it can't be resolve in the method I am using at present, my only other option is to switch off all but 1 layer in Illustrator  and export this layer as a png, but as I have many elements to the layout (including on and off states) and this is just one layout page of many, this manual way of export the files will take me forever!
If nobody know I way I can stop these layers from merger into one layer when exported to Photoshop, then maybe someone can  suggest a way I can automatic export the layers I have set up in Illustrator, as transparent pngs in a simular way I can in Photoshop.
Any help anyone can give me would be MUCH appreciated, as I am on a short deadline for this project!
    Julie

Layers are often merge becuase you've used transparency, blend modes, or other complex appearance settings in Illustrator. To ensure all layers export individually you should avoid the use of ANY and ALL transparency in AI and always export to the same color mode as your docuemnt.

  • Unreadable Files - Jpg converted from Illustrator

I designed a poster in illustrator. Then exported them as jpeg's. The files open just fine and I am able to use them and print them. When I try to import them into iPhoto the come up at Unreadable files. I tried to save them again and in different names. I have several files doing the same.
Any help would be great. I really need to these in a slide show for work.
    Thanks
    Todd

    Todd:
Where are these files located when you try to import? If you've put them inside the iPhoto Library package/folder then you'll need to move them to the desktop and import from there.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Is there a way to export your photo links from Illustrator (CS6) to a contact sheet?

So I've got this project where I'm making a set of images and placing about 300 photos with each set.  In order to avoid duplication and to track which photos were used where, I'm having to take screen shots of the links panel (scrolling down and taking another for each batch of images on each file).  This is a really clunky way to track these files and a contact sheet would be a lot easier to work with.  Is there a way to export the links to a contact sheet in Illustrator?

    - select your images
    - open the Document Info Panel, check "Selection Only", "Linked Images" and click on "Save..."

  • Should I export files as TIFFS or as previews with negatives?

I've been using the LR 3 beta. After I have added captions, copyright etc. to the metadata and made  necessary adjustments to the files, I normally copy the files to a  external hard drive to give to my assistant who retouches on her system  at home. She is retouching in CS3 and does not have LR. Should I export  the previews along with the negatives? Then after retouching, import the  files back into LR? Will she be able to access these files in CS3  without going through LR?  Or should I export as TIFFS? Still trying to get my head around LR so any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is what I do, Tom.
When I download the RAW files I store them in a folder called "Originals" within a folder for the shoot/subject/whatever on my hard disc.   I'll end up with a folder called "Lake District" and in that folder will be "Originals", "Derwent Water", "Buttermere" and so on.(Sorry can't do screen takes to show the tree.)  Having imported the RAW files into Lightroom,, added keywords and processed them in Lightroom, I export to CS3 as 16bit TIFFs (I use Adobe rgb at this stage).  I do not save these TIFFs in the Lightroom catalogue because they are going to be changed and be re-saved later. When they have been completed in CS3, I then save them as top quality JPEGs in the subject folder and delete the TIFFs.  (it's easy to go back to LR and re-export at any time.)  Then I reimport those photos to Lightroom and create a collection for them, or add tehm to an existing collection.  Then you can call up the collection and only see the processed version.  The originals will still be in Lightroom and if you click on "All Photographs" in the Library mode, you'll get these up alongside the processed version.
There may be better ways but this works for me.

  • I'm having problems exporting files for editing from LR 4.3 into photoshop elements 9.

This problem only occurs with files that I have been imported from cd's/dvd's into the libraryand I get the msg "Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file for editing. It will not be opened."
Files that are stored on my hard drive have NO PROBLEM in being edited. .
I am new to Lightroom and currently using it on the 30 day trial I have been using PSE for a long time and have over 90,000 images in Organizer and all of my images are on cd's/dvd's, very few are stored on the hard drive.
Thanks in advance for any feedback and suggestions.
    Ken

Do you mean they are still on the CD/DVD and you want to export them directly from CD/DVD?
That's not possible since the CD/DVD is not writeable. You have to move the photos to your hard drive first.

  • Getting darkened/ washed out colors when exporting png from illustrator

Hey everyone I'm trying to figure out a remedy for this, I am getting darkened less saturated colors when exporting a logo png from illustrator, jpeg's looke fine, even when copying this logo into indesign and exporting the colors look fine there as well. I think it has something to do with the icc profile being embeded in jpegs but not pngs, but I'm not sure. My illustrator document is set to display blacks accurately, document color mode is set to RGB, assign profile is set to working RGB: sRGB, and under color settings working space is sRGB and cymk is U.S. Web Coated SWOP v2, color management policys off for RGB and conversion options Adobe ACE (all under the color settings options). I've also tried to create a new file for web and copy and pasted my logo and tried to export that way and it didn't do anything. Any jpeg will look fine, the png even in save for web will look fine until I export or preview. My only current remedy for png at this point is to export it as is, then open it in Mac's Preview and turn up the saturation. Any help would be appreciated, I'm also using Illustrator CC and am on mac 10.7.5, thanks.

Any other solutions? I notice if I open the AI file in photoshop and export the png from there with "embed icc profile" checked then I get the same colors that I see while in illustrator, and when I export jpegs from illustrator, but exporting pngs from illustrator always changes the color/ makes the colors look duller.
