Export file even locked when closed ?

Hi,
i have closed the export-file using webutil´s text_io.fclose but it is still locked.
If i try to open the file with excel it says "the file is being used by another user ..."
The file will get unlocked when i close the form.
I´m using forms 10.1.2.0.2
How can i unlock the file ?

Before I ask you to check permissions on the drive you save your material and output files, try creating a new project, copy everything from the old one in it (highlight-copy-paste in new project) and save as with a new name. Does this work?

Usually when you get this problem in vista, it is to do with folder permissions.
The account you are using needs full control of the iTunes and iTunes Music folder.

I downloaded an upgrade but when I try to put it in the applications, it says the file is locked. when I unlock it, it still doesn't let me drag it, and reverts back to being locked when I close the window. I am using Mac Lion.

I opened Firefox this morning and it told me I needed to download a newer version. I downloaded the new version. I got the image prompting me to drag Firefox to the applications folder. When I do that, it asks if I want to replace the old Firefox, I click 'yes' and enter my password. It tells me the file is locked. I open 'get info', unlock the file and enter my password. It claims I have read and write access privileges. I then try again to drag Firefox to the applications folder - it says the same thing about the file being locked. I check again under 'get info', and Firefox has reverted to being locked again. I unlock it again and without closing that window, i.e. when it is still showing unlocked, I try again to drag it. Same message.
Now I can't use Firefox at all because it has corrupted the old version I was using and I am unable to download the new one.
I am using Mac OS 10.7.2, Lion, on a MacBook Pro.

How are you attempting this copy?
There's almost certainly a way to accomplish what you want to do (probably best from the terminal possibly copying the entire user dir and fixing up permissions, etc.) but I'm not sure you will end up with the results you want. There are plists in the preferences dir that you probably don't want to copy over (e.g., many of the com.apple.* prefererences). And many apps also create more than just plists. There may be stuff in Application Support, LaunchAgents, Internet Plug-Ins, etc.). And this would be stuff you do want to copy. Bottom line is it is not a trivial exercise which is probably why the system is slapping your hands for even attempting it

WHen i want to render a clip on the timeline it tells me this message"file error: The specified file i locked."drive and file and they are not locked.
What setting do i check for this
because up till now the program was rendering all clips on the time lne

Why do I get "Error - That file is locked" when trying to save?

Everytime I try to save a new sequence in FCP I get an error stating "Error - That file is locked" with no additional elements to determine which file is locked. I haven't changed any settings and I am the administrator of the computer. I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this.

Do you mean when you try to save the project? If so, check the project file (Get Info) and see if it is actually locked.

Brand new ipad... 2 days later, the screen wont lock when closing smartlid

when i got it at first it worked fine. closed the lid and unlock /lock slider always showed up.
I read around other peoples questions and some say its a software issue ? I just want to verifiy that i can't fix this somehow ?
Its the brand new 64gb Ipad with the A6X processor.. retina screen... all those new features. brand new from china. purchased here on store.apple.com so if its a software issue then thats just terrible...
i've gone to settings -> clicked ON for unlock/lock when lid closes
Still it does not want to lock unless you turn it off/on obviously
or if you add a passcode is the only ways to get it to lock now.
I don't want a passcode but rather it auto-lock when smart lid closes like the option says so...i want it to lock so I can just slide it to unlock without passcode.

Try this:
Reboot device by pressing both the home button and sleep/wake (power) buttons at the same time for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
If that doesn't work then reset the device by going to settings/general/reset/reset all settings (or for network connection issues 'reset network settings').
(no media or data will be deleted from the device, this will only take a minute).

Teststand sequence file not locking when locked from a labview running vi

Hi guys,
ok, here's the issue that I have:
I'm running a vi (directly in labview) which is supposed to lock a sequence file in Teststand (with a level 2 protection), but it doesn't have any effect on the sequence file. (the file remains unlocked).
The vi runs just fine, and the strange part is that when I read the lock status (property node in labview) of the sequence file afterwards it appears as "True" (i.e the file has been locked).
(Note: Teststand is closed while running the vi, then I open it to check if the sequence is locked or not)
However, integrating this same vi as step in a separate sequence file in teststand, and running it, will work. Why? Is it possible to
lock a sequence directly by running the vi in labview?
Attached to this message is the block diagram of the vi.
The relevant inputs are:
SequencePath -- sequence file to be locked
Password -- password used to lock file
Version -- Also sets the version of the file

Would you mind answering a few questions for me regarding this issue?
1. Have you tried reading the "locked" property of an unlocked sequence file before setting any properties? Does it read false?
2. What happens if you try to run the VI on a locked sequence file?
3. Are there any differences in the data you are passing to the VI in TestStand versus the inputs you are using when running the VI alone?
4. When TestStand locks the file using the VI, are you able to use the password you assigned to unlock it?
5. Is the version number saved when you run the VI from LabVIEW?

Illustrator cs5.1 crashing when saving or exporting file. Crashes when I try to save to folder. Doesn't recover any of the work I have done. HELP!

Also ... I have a mac and just updated my system to yosemite 10.10.3

Downgrade the system.
Of course you could try and fix all user privileges.
Also: do you save to harddisk? You should.
Try and delete preferences.
Did you uninstall, run the Cleaner tool and then reinstall Illustrator after updating the OS?

Large export file when application contains a BI Publisher report

Anyone have an idea why an application export file grows dramatically when a BI Publisher report template is added to an application? I have an application that was 400+ KB and went to 88+ MB just by adding one report query and RTF template. This results in taking over an hour to import the application.

Each RTF Report layout is converted to an ASCII string to allow the import routine to load the rtf as part of the application.
If your template has any embedded graphics e.g. a logo then this SIGNIFICANTLY increases the size of the ASCII encoding of the template.

Files locked when Windows clients are connected to ML Server via smb

Hi,
I've got a problem with windows 7 clients that are connected to my MacMini Server.
When they open files on a shared folder, and modify them, files are locked when they try to save them.
I think it might be the op-lock option present in older versions of Mac OS X Server that can be involved, but it disapeared in Lion and older version of OS X Server.
Does someone knows how to activate/deactivate this option, or does someone already got this problem?
Server is a MacMini with 10.8.5 + Server 2.2.2
Clients are Windows 7

Officially, Adobe does not support opening or saving files to a server --- because so many different things can go wrong with networking.
The permissions error means that the file/directory permissions are incorrect on the file server, or that the OS or server is incorrectly reporting file/directory permissions.
Photoshop does more error checking than most applications, because we have seen so many problems in the past, and don't like applications silently losing or damaging files (which we see in other applications).

All files are locked, a new entry in permissions and more

Following instructions from here on how to try to correct another issue, I was repair permissions and to boot in safe mode. Since then all kinds of things are messed up.
I had to reset PRAM because the home and boot screens were were all stretched out of whack (this situation has occured once before shortly after getting this new machine)
EVERY SINGLE DATA FILE created prior to this safe mode is now LOCKED. EVERY ONE!!!!!! If I try to save any file so far I have tested, I am told the file is locked and I do not have permissions. My user mode didn't have administrative control before, but I changed that because unlocking everything to use it was more complicated having to enter the username and password. New files created are also locked. However, a new Pages file I have tested shows locked but it will save to the same file with a CMD-S.
Having to unlock files to save work in them really slows work. Apple not allowing Save As on Apple apps is getting really tedious. I tried with a non-Apple app (PhotoShop) and its files are locked after creation. This means I have to unlock every stupid file before I can save it, then it relocks If I go into Get Info to unlock the file, as soon as i close that window, the file shows locked when I do a new Get Info. This is not a good user experience!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have hundreds of thousands of files used in publishing, graphics, photos, and music. I tried to save an existing Photoshop file back to the Desktop and was told I could not save because was locked - that I needed to unlock the file or enclosing folders. When Photoshop closes it says can't save Preferences because file is locked.
If I unlock the Sartup drive it relocks as soon as the Get Info window closes.
In Sharing and Permissions the user called Everyone has a custom settings and some files even have two Everyone entries. Newly created files have had the User with Read & Write and Staff and Everyone with Read Only. My user folder Get Info shows locked with the user, staff and everyone with Read & Write permmissions. If I unlock in Get Info it reverts to locked after I close the Info window.
Safari opens to the same page on this forum where another problem was discussed. I have reset selected items in Safari that I thought might have caused this, but no change.
Pages keeps opening a page that was thrown in the trash and is not even on the computer (at least doesn't show in the finder),
Numbers keeps opening a file that was opened and saved days ago.
iDVD will open the same project each time, even if something else has been worked on since.
I have cleared recent entries in these programs and the field keeps coming back when I open again.
I unchecked the Restore windows when quitting option in General Sys Prefs and when I open it again it is checked. I know that Lion will reopen a page if I quit without closing the window first. Now, at least with Apple apps, the same file opens now whether it exists or not as well as the new file I am opening by clicking on it.
I have run permissions check in Disk Utility several times.
It seems that it is affecting Apple apps that remember where there were last and the visiting history.
Autosave on apps other than Apple can't save because the files are locked and I get error messages.
iPhoto files saved on a firewire drive are also show locked but testing on a duplicate file, I found I can edit with PhotoShop and it will save the changes.
With Finale, it has saved the files, even though locked. The odd thing is that in the finder it shows the correct creation and modifided dates, but it shows an old last opened date. Pages documents show all three with correct dates/times.
I suspect there is at least one if not more Pref plist files that needs to be fixed, but I have now idea where to start.

Make sure you are logged in as the admin user.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon then click: Get Info
At the bottom of the Get Info window, click the gold padlock icon. You will be prompted for your admin password.
Under Privilege where you see: Read & Write "toggle" the arrows to set your permissions for system / admin etc.
Close the Get Info window.

XCOPY and ROBOCOPY hang if file is locked nd Destination is a network drive

This question was first posted to the Scripting Forum. They indcated I should switch to the Plarform Forum. I'm hoping this is the right place. So ...
On my home PCs, when using XCOPY or ROBOCOPY to copy an Outlook .pst file while Outlook is open and has the file partially locked causes XCOPY and ROBOCOPY opertations to abort immediately and report the file as partially locked if the Destination is another
drive on the same PC or a USB drive. That's good, and is as I expect. But if the Destination drive is a network share (e.g.
\\Whatever\Whatever) then both XCOPY and ROBOCOPY hang forever - even when specifying zero retries in ROBOCOPY and even after Outlook is closed and the file lock is released. The old DOS command COPY properly recognizes
the lock and aborts regardless of the Destination location. But COPY won't replicate the file Create/Modify dates on the Destination location as XCOPY and ROBOCOPY do. I'm using straight DOS from a .bat file
Anyone have any suggestions as to how to recognize this condition and avoid or correct it?

Ivan-Liu: Thanks for your input. The thread you referred me to looked promising, but ultimately was not a solution.
It focuses on ROBOCOPY and the use of an elevated command prompt.
First of all, as I initially reported, I found the same “hang” behavior with ROBOCOPY as with XCOPY.
Secondly, I prefer to avoid ROBOCOPY because one of the PCs I am trying to support is still running a version of Windows XP that does not make ROBOCOPY available to me.
I have not yet tried the operation when using “run as an administrator,” but my own login has administrator privilege and still exhibits the problem.
Moreover, the operation (both XCOPY and ROBOCOPY) always completes without issue when the .pst file is NOT locked.
The hang-up occurs only when I forget to close Outlook before initiating the XCOPY or ROBOCOPY operation.
I still need to confirm that the behavior is the same whether using a UNC pathname or a mapped drive name.
But my memory is that the copy operations still hang if the file is locked when the copy operation is initiated.
The two main PCs I use are running Windows-7 (one 64-bit and one 32-bit.)
The .pst file in question varies, but is typically between 100MB and 400MB.
The behavior is consistent, regardless of size. I have not tested the behavior with smaller .pst files or with other locked files of any size.
I’m now of the belief that my issue relates to the specific storage solution I have in place, which consists of an external 1TB Seagate USB drive plugged into a Belkin router, which subsequently makes the drive visible to my Windows home network as a network
drive. I don’t know if it’s a Seagate issue or a Belkin issue.
I’m still working to rule out Belkin by connecting the Seagate drive directly to a PC, but have not had time to complete that test yet.
I suspect Belkin, though, because attempts to XCOPY or ROBOCOPY to a thumb drive will abort immediately and report the file is locked.
Plus, I also have a separate problem wherein certain .xlsm files copied to the Seagate drive (when it is connected to the Belkin router) always report that they are corrupt if/when I attempt to use Excel to open the Seagate copy.
Excel always seems to successfully “repair” the files.
But I’ve been unable to discover a cause for that issue too. Testing has shown that behavior to be consistent with both UNC and mapped drive names.

IMP-00009: abnormal end of export file

When I try to import my dump file i receive this error IMP-00009: abnormal end of export file even if my buffer is set to 2000000000.
Any help would be great.

The export file is probably from an aborted Export session. Better retry the export and then import it again, if possible.
If not possible, report this as an Import bug and submit the export file that caused this error to Oracle Support Services.

Can't transfer files even though I created them

I'm trying to transfer music, iPhoto, and other files to my new iMac so I can erase my MacBook (many, many problems since upgrading to 10.5, but that's another story) and do a clean install. However, when I try to transfer them, using TDM or just over the network, I keep getting a message saying I am attempting to move a file I don't have permission to read. And these are files that I created and I'm moving them to the same user name on my iMac! I notice the files are locked when I Get Info, but I unlock them, set MyUserName to RW (including all enclosed files) and then try to move them. I still get the same message. I also see a user named "unknown" with RO privileges and I can't delete him from the permissions menu.
I've tried resetting permissions several times from Disk Utilities.
Any ideas?

File error: the specific file is locked

I got the error 'File error: the specific file is locked', when trying to render a project in FCP 7. The rushes and scratch disk are on an external hard-drive. I then went on to finder and I am unable to put anything new onto this external hard-drive. I am now trying to back up everything off the hard-drive and will go to disk utility and try repair it and I have saved the FCP project elsewhere.
However there is a lot of footage to back up (probably should have done this already), does anyone know of a quick work-around for this or would could be the cause to save it from happening in the future?

try moving your scratch disk in fcp system preferences to another drive. Could just be a problem with fcp being unable to write to the drive.
