Export Folders as a New Catalogue

Hi,
I have a catalogue with all of my photos. I now want to take three folders out of that catalogue and creat a new catalogue with them. When I choose the three folders in Library and choose Export this folder as a new Catalogue, it will only export one folder of the three chosen.
If I create a new catalogue and import the files from their original location, they lose the keywords, etc.
How can I creat this new catalogue without losing my keywords, etc.?
Thank you,
Gloria

Is this still an extant problem?

  • LR 3 move/copy image to a new catalogue

I need to move/copy images from the master catalogue to a new catalogue. when I select the image and in File/export LR asks for a catalogue name and then proceeds to copy the entire folder I am in.  How do I copy JUST ONE image? the instructions on the help don't do anygood becuase it indicates options which don't show up.

Thank you, but the problem arises from the LR Help file..What I really want to do is to create a new catalogue of selected images. The Help file says exactly what I want to do BUT:
    Export as Catalog
"You can export one or multiple photos as a new catalog.
To export individual images into a new catalog, they
must first be selected. Then, from the File menu, choose Export as Catalog. Also, if
you press Option or Alt, you’ll see the standard Import and Export buttons (bottom
left, Library) change to Import Catalog and Export Catalog; see Figure 9–14.
In the resulting dialog box you must type a name for the new catalog. A folder
will be created using that name. Inside the folder will be the catalog and preview
package, using the same base name. In the Export as Catalog window you also
    have the following options:
Export selected photos only: when this is checked, only selected photos will be
exported to the new catalog. Otherwise, all photos from the currently selected source
will go into the new catalog. A text display above the checkboxes indicates this.
    Figure 9-14

    ADVANCED TECHNIQUES
9 Export negative files: in this case, “negative” simply means the image files on disk.
When this is checked, Lightroom will make copies of the files and the new catalog
will link to those files, not the originals. If this is left unchecked, the new catalog
will remain linked to the original files on disk.
Include available previews: when this option is checked, Lightroom will also copy
the previews from the old preview package into the new one.
You can also export entire collections and folders as catalogs. Right-click or
Ctrl+click the folder or collection and from the popup menu select “Export [folder
or collection] as catalog”. For the export, you will have the same options described
    above.
    Export catalogs to share them
Exporting catalogs is a great way to share work between different people, multiple
    computers, etc."
Nothing likes this actually appears. So what to do??

  • New Catalogue from selected images in other Catalogues

    Hi Guys,
I have several Catalogues in Lightroom 2.5. I would like to select several images from each Catalogue and put them into a new Catalogue.
The reason – In each Catalogue I have flagged the images that I want to print. I want to create a new Catalogue with only the flagged images from the other Catalogues in order to do a contact print or multi images on one sheet of paper.
I know that I could create one Master Catalogue, select the flagged images and then print but I would like to just have a Print Catalogue that I could add images to, from other Catalogues.
Its there a way to do this ?
    Thanks for your help.
    John

In each catalogue, select the images and select File > Export as Catalogue. When you're finished, create a new catalogue, and then use File > Import as Catalog for each of the exported ones.
When you're finished doing all this, do put some time aside to think what else you could have done with all the time you've just used up. With a single master catalogue, you would already have been admiring your prints and having a coffee, with your feet up on the desk too.

  • Have I lost my Collections? LR3 insisted that I install a new Catalogue....

....but when I did everything had moved back in time to March, 2010. I'm a daily user of LR3 version 2 and have no idea why I was prompted to install a new Catalogue, but I wasn't given a choice. I was able to re-import all the post-March, 2010 folders but the Collections have disappeared.
    Any thoughts?

You will have moved your existing catalogue - that's why LR "insisted" on creating a new catalogue. Look through your folders for that catalogue, or restore it from your backup.

  • New catalogue?

I have had LR for 2.5 years and have almost 170,000 images in my one and only catalogue. Everything seems to be running just fine. I am trying to decide whether it would be wise to open a new catalogue entitled 2011 and place all photos starting Jan 1 into the new catalogue. Is this a logical plan or is it unnecessary? What are the pros and cons of creating this new catalogue based on the year and, if this is a good idea, should I do this annually thereafter?

I would advise against creating a new catalog.
Why? Because it's so very practical to have all your images in one catalog. That's why we have LR. Different catalogs in LR is similar to have your images in Bridge in different folders - to find an image you have to remember where it is located.
Whatever method you chose for separating your images in different catalogs, many images will not fit neatly in one or the other category. So, either you have to put them in more than one catalog, or you "force" them into one. But months/years down the line, when you try to find a certain image, will you remember in which catalog you put it? I often remember that I took a certain image, but when? 2004? 2005? Hmmm.
If you want to order your images by years - and I can see only one valid reason for it, namely when you go back to a certain place and photograph it again and again in different years  - do it within one-and-the same catalog and separate your images by folders, collections, keywords.

  • How do I move multiple folders to  a new location

I'm tring to reorganize after a computer crash. How do I move multiple folders to  a new location?

In the Organizer you can switch to Folder Location View by clicking the Display button (near top right)
You can then expand he folder tree in the left hand pane and drag and drop.

  • Windows Explorer always opens folders in a new window

Yes, yes, I've googled it already.  And bing-ed it just for fun too.
    This doesn't work:
    http://windowsxp.mvps.org/samewindow.htm
    Nor does this:
    http://blog.hansmelis.be/2009/05/17/windows-vista-explorer-opens-folders-in-a-new-window/
Yes, yes, I've checked the Open in same folder option in folder options.
I've used shellex to disable context menu items.
    I've rebooted a hundred times.
This is rediculous.  Windows should only recognize ONE setting for this and that is the one in folder options.  Anything else that affects it is a BUG!
    I'm on build 7100 RC.
And I'm quite frustrated with this.
    Please help!

<<...tried to import the key from that known-good windows installation ...... (but
    was 64bits)...>>
importing x64 keys to an x86 installation may not work.  HKLM\WOW6432Node\Classes\Interface would have to be combined with (overwrite)
the standard location and then that be copied/imported to the x86 install.  Even then, there might be some unanticipated problems.
It's good that you had a registry backup available in system restore.  Although I like the inherent security and reliability in the Vista/Win7 system restore implementations, one thing that I miss was being able to pluck only the registry files from
a restore point; like I used to do with WinXP.
<<...Yes, my case is precisely (Windows Explorer always opens folders in a new window) on
    Win7. ....>>
Also, that is too general.  There is more nitty-gritty details that have to be verified, such as whether the issue is per-user,
or whether the "Explore" option is in bold and works properly when manually selected.  In a lot of cases, that simply may not be in bold which means it's no longer the default action on double-click.  (requires different set of steps to resolve,
focusing on another part of the registry)  But from what you've stated on JAVA update 20, there well could be some changes to the HKLM portion of that Interface key... don't know.  A before and after registry compare usually helps pin down the issue.
    EDIT 10y04m24d_130735:
One other thing that occurs to me, is that the dreaded Yahoo toolbar often installs with Sun Microsystems's JAVA.  I've removed such toolbars on many browsers because they render IE8 unstable/unreliable with occasional to routine freezes/crashes.

OK, restart in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possible one or more is corrupt. To restart in Safe Mode when you hear the start up tone hold down the Shift Key until you see a progress bar. Let it fully boot then restart normally and test.
Also I am assuming you have checked Finder - Preferences  - General and see what boxes are checked in "Show these items on desktop." You can also mount an item in Disk Utility, simply highlight it and then look in the File menu for Mount.....

  • Export from iPhoto to New Folder

Let's say I export iPhotos to a "New Folder" on my Desktop. Does it copy them, or just point to them?
So, if I edit or delete the photos in iPhoto, will they still be in my New Folder?
I think they will be there, just as they were at the time I exported them. Is that correct?
    I'm learning... thanks!
Also is there a difference between New Folder and New Burn Folder?

Let's say I export iPhotos to a "New Folder" on my Desktop. Does it copy them, or just point to them?
It copies them. It's an entirely new file with the same content as the file inside iPhoto.
So, if I edit or delete the photos in iPhoto, will they still be in my New Folder?
Yes. iPhoto cannot do anything to files outside the Library.
I think they will be there, just as they were at the time I exported them. Is that correct?
    Yes.
Also is there a difference between New Folder and New Burn Folder?
Yes. A Folder is a Folder but a Burn Folder is a folder designed to be burned to disk. It contains aliases to the files - not the files themselves - that are resolved at burn time.

  • LM4 Previous Export Folders Grayed Out

When Exporting images in LM4 (4.0), the previous list of export folders is grayed out  and none can be selected.  You have to choose the destination folder via the Choose button.  On the next Export the previously selected folder appears in the list but, again, cannot be selected.  The Clear List is also grayed out so you cannot clear the list down.  This function worked fine in LM3.  Is this a known reported fault?

Works fine here in 4.1 RC2.

  • Implementation of new catalogue

    Hi,
We have the requirement of implementing new catalogue in the lines of catalogue like HP catalogue.
We are using the SRM version 3.0 nad SAP 4.7C.
Is there any documentation available where in I will come to know the sequence of steps involved in the creation/implementation of new catalogue.

    In addition to Masa,
If you want to configure the SRM-MDM Catalog then you can refer the SAP Note - 1057316 - SRM-MDM Catalog 2.0 - Installation & Configuration. Also refer the SRM-MDM Catalog Business scenario Guide which is avialable on SMP.

  • When should I start a new catalogue and not just a new folder

    Hi,
I have my files organised into folders all within one catalogue.  Is this good organisation or should I use more catalogues.
    Thanks
    Jenny

    Hi Jenny,
Using a single catalog is nearly always the best choice, especially for LR users just starting out.  There are only a few reasons to have more than one catalog, for example to separate personal photographs from client photographs.  Otherwise, stick with one and you will have fewer issues.

  • Do search folders automatically include new system archive folders

Do search folders automatically include new system archive folders as they are created each year.
I decided to create filters and use these to keep track of various types of email, eg wife, mistress1, Mistress2 etc, friends, stamp collecting society, train spotting, bank etc
I can then just archive them all and see them in search folders.
Looks like I will have to go through each property to choose folders each year.
I need to know is this the case before I create 50 odd search folders for mistresses plus the others? :)

    Hi Matt
Thanks for the reply but I'm not sure it answers the point I wanted to clarify
I can see your option creates a substructure in line with the original source email but does it also update a "saved search" folder criteria that this folder should be searched.
I am just working from my inbox and previously I would move emails to subfolders (basic filing) but this is a bit tedious dragging or selecting to the right destination. I just want to hit delete or archive then allow the "saved search" folder to work its magic with a filter.
Including a folder does not automatically cause sub folders to be searched so it seemed unlikely that come next year when a 2016 folder is created that the "saved search" folder will see the new folder.
My option still seems best for what I want even if I have to update 20 or so searches each January.
If any developers are watching the option to "include subfolders" in the criteria would get round the problem.

  • Can't disable finder folders open in new window

In Finder Prefs I changed it to always open folders in new window. Later I decided to switch it back so I unchecked it. It still opens folders in a new window. Obviously, I've tried several times, restarted many times, etc.  Suggestions?

Exactly. Since the OS stores all code that runs the machine in RAM, you need to restart any app that you make changes to for it to use the new settings. Since the Finder is always running (it operates the Desktop and other things), relaunching via the Dock option forces it to dump its code from RAM and repopulating it with the new settings.

You don't Use QT 7 "Pro", GarageBand, a video editor app, or a third-party app like MPEG Streamclip all of which can access user conversion settings.
