Export formats from GarageBand

Hello - are there any export options in GarageBand?
I would like to export a GarageBand 9 second looped sound as a ringtone in my mobile phone.

I must admit it was a fun and creative challenge and as a first time Mac user I have a great deal to learn. I tried the .3gp export and while it sounded ok-ish over computer speakers on the V3X it was not so hot (26K file compared to 268K file).
I have a lot to learn for sure and the higher quality export seems to make better use of features in the device.
Now I think about it, one of the greatest features in PW for me is humble little IrfanView. I asked Irfan if he has plans for a Mac version but ...
Is there a Mac equaivalent of IrfanView? (Preview is sweet but seems rather limied in comparison ... )
Purchasing of stuff for computers is on hold for me at the moment and that depends on the next Apple OS. So it is a bit of a cusp depending upon functionality, functionality, functionality.

  • How do you make the volume louder when you export music from garageband?

Hey everytime I export my music from garageband the volume seems to die down.. Is there a way to fix this? Thank you

There's two things that are being called "volume": one is the output level of your audio file. Go to GB's preferences and see if the auto-normalize function is checked - if yes, it will automatically adjust the master volume so the maximum level of your output file is 0 dB. If you uncheck it, you can crank up your volume more, but your audio might clip in some places.
The other thing is loudness – audio files with the same peak level have a very different perceivable loudness. That is a question of mastering, i.e. applying compressors and limiters to make the sound more "dense". But that's a whole different story.

  • Help with exporting tracks from Garageband into iTunes please?!

I have voice-recorded a list of Italian words and phrases which I want to import into iTunes as separate tracks so that I can shuffle them & test myself to learn them. So far I have been using the cycle region to import each word but it is taking forever! I beieve it is not possible to have multpile cycle regions and have been playing about with the markers using the podcast track but I can't get it to export in chapters either.
Is there a way to split a single track in Garageband and import it as mulitple tracks into iTunes all at the same time?
Thanks for any help you can give me!

the chapters only work when you actually burn to CD. I assume that's correct?
for your purposes, yes (technically it would create podcast style chapters so you could jump past a section, for instance, but not in a shuffle fashion like you want)
    vanessa2011 wrote:
I'm guessing that will take an awful lot of CDs?!
you could use a re-writtable, but no, this doesn't sound like a really workable solution for what you're doing.
    vanessa2011 wrote:
Just two of the chapters has already become 220 'songs' in iTunes and over 20MB.
one thing you should be doing is selecting the "compress" option in the export dialogue. you can probably use very aggressive compression for spoken word since hi-fidelity wouldn't be that important (you might experiment with a custom setting to see how low you can go with it still being acceptable)

I wonder how much would fit onto a CD
in terms of audio, it's time, not disc space. a standard CD holds 74 minutes of audio (some store 80)
you could try an audio editor instead of GB:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/GBFAQ.html#audioeditors
(Let the page FULLY load. The link to your answer is at the top of your screen)
but GB is probably the most simple option

  • Help: Export format from FCP for DVD Studio

What settings do I export my 3 minute film so I can use DVD Studio Pro? (What size do I want if I want my film to be wide screen just like a professional DVD movie you buy at your nearest store?)
    Thank You!

In FCP, go to File->Export->QuickTime Movie. You can choose to make the file self-contained or not. Do NOT recompress all frames. The resulting file will be an exact copy of your Sequence in FCP.
Use that file in Compressor. Choose the appropriate preset for DVD. Compressor will create an MPEG-2 (.m2v) video file and an AC3 audio file. Use those two files in DVD-SP for authoring.

  • Audio exported from garageband inaudible

    Hi everyone,
I'm new to garageband and have just hooked up a sony notetaker to my macbook pro and have used garageband to import the audio. Once it imported I listened to some of it and it sounded okay but when I chose "send song to iTunes" and listened to the audio there, it was playing back in "chipmunk" mode, ie. really fast, totally inaudible. Just wondered if anyone could tell me why this is happening?
Also, is it possible to export audio from garageband in an mp3 or .wav format?
    Appreciate any help.

    Thanks for the reply.
The Q&A you directed me to is about a file playing too fast within Garageband. My file is actually playing correctly within Garageband - it's playing too fast in iTunes when I export it.
I tried it anyway though. Since the file was already in the iTunes window, I just set the preferences to AIFF, 44.1K and 16-bit as directed in the instructions. The file was already a .aif file since exporting it from GB but again I chose "Convert to AIFF from under the Advanced menu" according to the instructions.
Apparently once the conversion is done a new file should have been created and listed in the iTunes window, but no new file was created when I did this. Do you know what could have gone wrong?
Also I imported about 1 hours worth of audio from the notebook into GB but when I exported it to iTunes it's coming up as over 11 hours. Do you think some setting was wrong in GB while I was importing that could be causing the problem?

  • Help with export format - can I meet ad requirements?

    Help!
I need to create a color ad for magazine. Starting with a file in either PDF or EPS. Need to tweek existing file by changing some of the text and adding a logo. Final product is for magazine ad with media requirements:
    Preferred High Resolution PDF
Embedded fonts - no true type fonts, only Type 1 or open Type fonts
    300 DPI
supporting images must be CMYK, not RGB
I also have PS CS3. I have experienced output issues with printers in past, especially using the PDF export format from Pages (problems with fonts and layers).
From reading other posts my plan was to start in Pages, insert PDF file, overlay text and logo, print to Postscript, then open in PSCS3 where I would "save as PDF." Only concern is uncertain resolution of original PDF which is a small file (about 100k for quarter page color ad).
Other thought was to start with EPS in PS, save as PDF or TiFF, open in Pages to ad text/logo, then back to PS. Trying to avoid PS for main editing, just more versed in PAGES.
    Will this work?
    Any comments appreciated!!

    Good evening from Normandy
    In response to Barbara's point:
It is serious. At an early stage in my magazine project I lost a client because the background colour in his ad had changed after CMYK separation, and when I noticed it was too late. The client is with us now and very happy with the quality of his ad.
Pages colour palette allows adjusting CMYK separation WITHIN Pages (note: it is also available in other Mac applications, even in SimpleText). Click on the rainbow circle in the tool bar to open it. Click on the second icon with colour sliders, in the drop down menu click on CMYK sliders. They show percentage content of the four colours used in professional printing - Cyan(blue), Magenta (purple), Yellow and Black.
With Pages you work in what-i-see-what-i-get mode (WYSIWYG) which is wonderfully intuitive and the results in print are satisfactory more often than not. As a general rule of thumb, however, I would recommend avoiding sharp, vibrant colours. What looks exciting on screen comes out dull on paper. Mind physiology here: screen colours are generated to go staight into your eyes, but the colours on paper are a reflected and refracted sun- or electric light.
It also makes sense to avoid colours that are too feeble. I used light blue colour wash for background with Cyan reading of 8 percent and it completely disappeared in print. After consulting with my printers I had to change the reading to 15 percent.
Another printers tool is colour-code or colour-guide tablets. They are like a stack of cards with changing colour sequences with exact CMYK percentage reading for each shade of colour. They can be purchased at specialised shops and web-sites, but are costly. Weigh your needs against costs. In my work I have to pay more attention to general lay-out rather than to colours, so I decided against investing in colour tablets.
Another work-around here is to use colour combinations from Apple's own templates that come with iWork suite. Copy colours that work nicely together from templates to your colour palette (I wish there was a feature allowing to give custom names to composite colours) and they will be available for use in your projects.
Re ColourSync utility mentioned here by Dragon. I agree, it is a powerful tool, but Barbara's point is especially relevant here: you have to know what you are doing. I invested some time in creating new workflows with ColourSync. The improvement in quality was dramatic, but while some problems were solved, others appeared. A short article I wrote re using Colour Sync is here:
    i-work-in-pages.blogspot.com/2006/10/preparing-colour-separated-pdfs-using.html
So after a while I dropped ColourSync method and started using Enfocus PitStop which allows adjusting PDFs right at the CMYK conversion stage.
Another work-around which makes life even easier is to ask your computer service people to prepare Distiller settings exactly to your requirements as a separate folder which you can install as default in your Distiller settings. That way you just drag-n-drop your files onto the Distiller icon in the Dock and get perfect press quality PDFs in no time.
It is worth remembering that we are mostly end-users, not developers or technicians. Remembering this saves a lot of heart-ache. I call it the Renaissance Man dilemma - if you spend to much time chasing too many things your main goal is not achieved. Leonardo da Vinci was famous for not finishing his projects, because he always got distracted by exciting technical solutions that he stumbled upon while working...
This is more in response to Angiomans thread than to Barbara's comment now, but I assume he followed Dragon's invitation to this thread.
Cheers everybody - it is really exciting to share things with people who have similar experiences.

  • [CS4] Can a plug-in's custom export format be used in a JavaScript?

    Hi Folks,
I'm not sure if this message should be here or in the AI Scripting forum, but I'll start here...
I have just written an AI CS4 Mac Plug-In that provides a custom file export format. What I would like to know is how (or even if it's possible) to use my plug-in's export format from a JavaScript? The trouble is that the second parameter of the Document class's exportFile() method is an ExportType enum. I don't see how I can add my export format to the ExportType list.
In other words, I would like to complete this line of JavaScript (replacing the ????? with something that will trigger my plug-in's export file method):
    myDoc.exportFile(myFile, ?????);
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
    -- Jim

Thanks for the help. Sadly, one cannot run an action from a JavaScript; it can be done with an AppleScript or VBScript though. I was hoping there was a way to do what I want from JavaScript so I would not have to deal with the headaches of involving JavaScript and AppleScript in the same project.
The ideal solution would be create a way for a script (JavaScript, VBScript, and AppleScript) to send a message to a plug-in without having to--in the plug-in code--create a timer and watch and wait for some event to happen. If everything were easy, I guess everyone would be developing software! ;-)
    I'll try the Scripting forum...
    Cheers!

  • Itunes wont play my new mp3 exported from Garageband?

I export my original songs from Garageband 09 in mp3 format and add them to a playlist in itunes. Sometimes Ill make some changes to a song in Garageband and then export and replace the original exported mp3 with the same file name. The preview in Finder plays the new version but when I double click it or open it with itunes it plays the old one? Even when I delete the old one from the playlist and import the new file? Weird!

I have a similar problem .. when I import a movie, modify the audio track add sounds and music ect... export to iTunes only the original movie audio comes thru. When I check the file in the iTunes movie folder it has the Garageband sounds as I modified it. Opening the movie in Quicktime it plays the total Garageband mix. I suspect a glitch in iTunes.

Probably because you have the free version of Flip4MAc from Telestream that limits exported files to 30 seconds or so. There ae several paid versions  – depending on your requirements

  • Problem when exporting audio from Premiere Pro v4.2.1 into wave 5.1 format

    Hello to Adobe experts!
After installing of last updates for Adobe Premiere Pro (v4.2.1) and for Media Encoder (v4.2.0.006) the was a problem:
Now I cannot to export audio from adobe sequence into uncompressed wave format with 5.1 channels settings. Source m2ts video files in sequence are with 5.1 audio.
    What I doing:
    1) in Premiere I execute "File\Export\Media"
    2) Export settings are:
    - format: Windows Waveform
    - audio codec: Ucompressed
    - basic audio settings: 44100Hz, Channels: 5.1, Sample Type 16bit
    3) After OK button it opens Adobe Media Encoder.
    4) After pressing Start Queue in Adobe Media Encoder there is a message "Error compiling movie. Unknown error"
In earlier versions it worked fine.
Can you help me with this problem?
    Alexander

Here are the options, from a sequence with 5.1 master track:
    and with Surcode:
Notice that first one does only give stereo as an option. Nothing more. With Surcode it gives you 5.1 sound.

  • Why Can't I Export to Quicktime from Garageband?

Has anyone else experienced this or would know how to fix it...
I created a .mov file from Keynote and brought it into Garageband as a Video Track to sync the music to the Keynote presentation. Now I'm ready to Export to Quicktime from Garageband. When I choose the Export command from the 'Share' menu in Garageband, it runs through two dialog boxes - first "Creating Mixdown" and then "Converting..." - after the second dialog box disappears no Quicktime file is created.
I have tried several things to remedy this, but have had no luck - such as updating to Garageband 3.0.1, running Disk Utility, restarting the computer. I also made sure to check the Preferences in Garageband before exporting.
Can anyone tell me how I can get it to export?
Also, the final Garageband file size is approximately 180MB and the presentation runs approximately 8 minutes. The final file will need to be 'full quality', as it will be shown from a projector at a meeting.
      Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Keynote v3.0.0; Garageband v3.0.1; Dual 1GHz G4; 1.5GB SDRAM

    Which export did you use?
Try going into prefs->export, enable the export to disk option.
Than in the Share menu choose export to disk.
Then do a search on the name of your song (in the Finder) and see if it shows up.

  • How can I export formatted text from a string indicator?

Does someone know how I can export formatted text (i.e., parts of the text have different formatting, such as color, fontsize, etc.) from a string indicator? Using copy/paste does not work, as it only exports unformatted plain text.

    Hello Sparti,
Thank you for your suggestions, they are all very useful, and I plan to use the HTML feature under Report Generation to export the formatted text from Labview. However, I am still not sure how I can extract the formatted text from a *string indicator* and transfer it to one of those VIs, so that it can be exported to other applications. Let me give some more specific info on what I am trying to achieve:  I am monitoring the communication between two pieces of equipment. A string indicator shows all the data flow, with different colors for data coming from different instruments. I managed to do that by using a property node and playing with the selection and font color properties. Now, if you just wire the output of the string indicator, the formatting is gone and all you get is just plain black text (for instance, try to programmatically transfer the formatted text from one string indicator to a different string indicator and you will see that the formatting is not preserved). Even if you try the "brute force" method of manually selecting and copying the text in the indicator and pasting it to Word, LV does not export the formatting. But, if you paste *within*  LV (for example, paste it to a string constant in your diagram), then it works. To extract the formatted string from the indicator, I also tried to use a property node, but without success. I am trying to avoid duplicating part of my code to generate the same color-coding scheme on a report. It would be way easier to be able to transfer the formatted text from the string indicator. This is particularly annoying, because the information is there, stored in the data structure associated with the string indicator. But how can I put my hands on it? Any ideas?

  • Exporting to and from Garageband

Can you share from Garageband to DVD Studio Pro. As you can't seem to embed the sound track into your movie from Garageband I am wondering if you can export the video and audio tracks to somewhere other than iDVD.

. If I'm not mistaking, Podcast is the only option that allows me to access itunes to drag and drop a song into my project.
Any GarageBand project will allow you to access iTunes from the Media Browser, Bruce: Click the Media Button in the lower right corner of the iTunes window and open the Audio tab, then scroll down to iTunes.

  • Disable Rpt file format from export options

    Hi all,
I would like to know if there is a way to remove/hide/disbale  export to Crystal Report (Rpt) file format  from the list when u run a report in the  Crystal Reports.com ?
    Thankyou

    Hello,
You are correct.  Non-administrator users will not be able to download an rpt file from crystalreports.com if that checkbox on the report's properties page is unchecked.  As a side note - this checkbox also appears on the report upload page if you want to enable download right from the beginning.
Users will still be able to export the report to other formats like PDF or word though.  We do not have a way to block that yet.
This checkbox is only available for report documents since the very nature of PDF or office documents involves users downloading them to be able to view them.
    Cheers,
    Steve
