Export from Acrobat PDF to HTML

Is there any reliable way to export an Acrobat PDF file to HTML uising Acrobat 9 Pro Extended. When I try to do it from Acrobat, I get:
Tables that are a total, horrendous mess, nothing at all like the tables in the original Pdf.
Text that is randomly surrounded, for no apparrent reason, with span tags and completely worthless CSS. A single, uninterrupted sentence can have four or five spans, all with different CSS classes for no apparent reason. When you look at the four or five CSS classes, they all have the same, identical style attributes.
Exporting it to RTF results in a mess that is no less horrendous.
What I'm trying to do is take some rather lengthy PDFs (200 pages or more each) and use them as input to a RoboHelp WebHelp project. However, the output, whether I try an import into RoboHelp, an export from Acrobat Professional Extended, or one of several third party PDF converters is all so horrendous that it would be easier to completely retype the the 200 pages times sixteen or so documents than to attempt to cleanup the horrendous mess that results from an Acrobat export.
Why can't Adobe get their products to work together? At this pont, I've just about reached the conclusion that it is very clear that nother should ever, for any reason, under any circumstances be converted to PDF unlesss you absolutely have the documents in the original format locked up someplace because you can never get anything meaningful and transportable out of Acrobat. Please tell me that, in this day and time, the Acrobat PDF files can actually be converted in a meaningful way.

That's very true. However, you can create RTF documents with Word and WordPerfect and in this day and time, virtually everyone can read those, while they are ultimately transportable to a whole wide variety of formats, including HTML, without any significant degradation. If Adobe can't make PDFs transportable between document types in the same way, why on earth would anyone ever use the PDF format. All this hoopla about embedding video, sound, etc. is pretty much nonsense. You can pretty much do that in RTF, and few if any actually want to do it anyway.
All I can say is, why does Adobe advertise that you can export to file types such as HTML and RTF from Acrobat PDFs when you obviously can't. Why do they include the options on their menus. This is obviously a case of false and misleading advertisement. This is the day and time of transportable documents. Adobe has chosen to make Acrobat Pro an anachronistic and archaic dinosaur.
Once again, why create PDFs when they have such limited usefulness.

  • Problem with diacritics when export in Acrobat(PDF)

    Hello,
I use reporting service from Sql Server 2008 R2 and I have a problem when I export in Acrobat(PDF) format. All the 'ș' and 'ț' are after export in pdf just a square.
Can you please help me. Thanks.

    Hi Alin-g,
SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services supports Adobe Acrobat 6 or later. So, please make sure your current Acrobat version meets the requirement.
Besides, the font in the PDF format may be different with that in the HTML rendering extension because GDI font substitution in those formats behaves differently. If there is a font missing on the client, you might see characters replaced with boxes (□).

  • Cannot Export from Acrobat to Word

I have Acrobat Pro version 8.1.3 and Word 2007.  There is a very prominent Icon right on the top toolbar that tells me I can Export to Word.  However, I cannot.  I get results that either strip all formatting away from the Text or yield strange results.  I have also tried converting to word via .rtf and .txt.
After Exporting to .doc from Acrobat, and opening Word, instead of recognizing the document as a Word-97 (.doc), Word offers to convert the .doc from an .rtf!  What is wrong here?  It would appear that the conversion from PDF to Word-97 is not being done correctly.  I have read many posts similar to mine, but I have not garnered any resolutions to the problem!  Is PDF a read-only format?
Forgive me, but I am unclear as to what I would use the full version of Acrobat for if not to export the document into an editable form.   PDF documents come from all over the place, and it would be nice to see the full Acrobat Pro do what it promises --- I need to edit PDF's just about every day!  If Acrobat cannot do this conversion, I'll need to spend $180.00 on upgrading my OCR program to do the job.
Another Thought:  (In case this is an Adobe vs Microsoft issue):  Would it be easier to convert the PDF into InDesign?  I just looked at this. and do not see a menu option to import PDF files in InDesign.  My strong preference would be to get the PDF into a fully editable form in Word.
Additional info:  One report of this type problem advised use of Acrobat conversion settings to change some things -- that will not work for me as the only setting I have is whether to include comments or not!  Another problem-like-this-solver suggested "embedding the fonts" into the .pdf -- this will not work either as my system has lots of Open Source fonts, but my .pdf has, you guessed it, all True Type fonts.  All of my software and Vista-64 OS are up-to-date.  Yes, the PDF is in text form, albeit using True-Type fonts -- so no, the "Advanced Editing tool" does not work either -- but offers to do one line at a time -- I have a 10-page document!
    Please help!!!!  Suggestions???  Thanks!

The ability to go backwards depends on the way in which the PDF was created. Generally, going to WORD is marginal as you have found out. If the tags were created with the PDF, then the formatting and such can often be gotten back due to the tags. Looks like you have a basic PDF. In terms of going backwards, that was never the main purpose of Acrobat (it is always recommended that you retain an original copy of your documents to work with). Acrobat was designed to produce a Portable Document Format (PDF) that could be read on basically any platform and look identical. As long as the fonts are embedded and such, that is usually what exists. All of the other items are add-ons to provide additional features. How well these features work depends on the information available in the PDF.
At times, I have found I can get a reasonable DOC file by saving as a HTML file and opening the HTML file in WORD. Not the cleanest way, but it works at times. Some documents can be saved directly to DOC files and look great, others are pretty bad. However, you are still better off in that you don't have to start typing from scratch. It is a lot easier to add some formatting that it is to start over.

  • Exporting from Acrobat 3D PDF to CAD formats

    Hello,
Good day, hope all is great.
According to the Adobe Knowledgebase Acrobat 3D 8 can export a PDF into different CAD formats like parasolid.
    http://www.adobe.com/go/kb402271
I am using the trial version of Acrobat 3D and have not been found out how to do this, even after reading the help files. Please forward your thoughts and suggestions. I can open several CAD formats, but don't know how to export.
    Thanks in advance,

The Knowledge Base appears to not be as clear as it should be in regard to the Export feature.
To gain access to the Export feature the model needs to be converted into PDF using one of the PRC formats. Dpending on the type of CAD file you are starting out with, conversion may be limited to only to one of the .U3D formats, so you would not see the "Export Data..." feature.
BTW - the "Export Data..." feature is in the right-click context menu that is displayed when interacting with a PRC formatted 3D annotation.
Which CAD format are you starting out with? I just converted a SolidWorks model using the PRC format and the "Export Data..." feature was available.
To convert using one of the PRC formats, drag the original CAD file onto Acrobat. In the Acrobat 3D Cnversion dialog's "Import" tab, select one of the PRC formats in the "Format:" pop-up menu and hit OK. In the resulting PDF, activate the 3D annot, then right-click on it. You should see the "Export Data..." feature in the context menu.

  • I have a problem exporting from Acrobat Pro on OS X 10.10

I'm trying to export a PDF to Word, and am getting an error message saying "Save As failed to process this document. No file was created". This happens with all files in Acrobat. This has only started to happen since I upgraded to OS X Yosemite. I would appreciate any help with this, as this is a critical issue for us.

    Hey LoveWYD,
Please try saving the word file to a different location and check.
Also, let me know is this a scanned document? Which Adobe Acrobat are you using?
As it is happening with all PDF files, you might also try repairing Acrobat from the Help menu.
    Hope to hear from you.

  • Preflight Setting Exported from Acrobat 9 Does not Import in Acrobat 8 - Help

I have exported a preflight setting so that another person can import it on his acrobat pro software. I have version 9, but my friend has version 8. And it does not want to import it.
How can I make this work?

Acrobat 9 Pro has improved preflight features. They probably changed the format of the preflight profiles so Acrobat 8 Professional doesn't recognize them. Your friend will need to upgrade.

  • Emailing Pages Exported from a PDF

Many of our users have large PDFs and would like to extract specific pages and email the extracted pages.
They select File, Attach to Email.  Unfortunately, the Attach button is dimmed on the task pane.
However, if they save the extracted pages as a new document, it's fine.
Is there any way to do this without needing to save the extracted pages?
    Thanks.

No, the file must be saved before it can be emailed.
This has changed with the last version of Acrobat. Before it was possible
to email an unsaved file, but not anymore.

  • How to get dom object from acrobat pdf

I am following the the document "PDF Accessibility API Reference" and following the section "Reading PDF files thru DOM Interface". There he mentions about including
AcrobatAccess.h, AcrobatAccess_i.c and IPDDom.h. Please let me know where I can find these files. Also, How can I get a dom object to start with. If you have a sample code to share, that would be great. I tried googling about these but was not very successful in getting this info.
Any help towards this is appreciated.

    Hi Leonard,
I think there is something called GetCaret function mentioned in DOM interface which basically returns IPDomNode underneath caret. Also, in Accessibility side, accHitTest() function is there.
I think today when I explored our product, some body has written wrappers over accessibility apis to get some good information. Anyways thank you very much for all your replies.
One last question before I leave home:-)
I have accessibility object representing a active page (page which is visible). Now using accessibility apis, I can traverse the tree of accessbility objects that belong to/Underneath page. Now to get the same on a different invisible page, what should I do. Calling getParent at a page level accessibility object returns null? SOmething like I want an accessibility object whose children are "the all the pages of the document".

  • Please help, I can not open the word document after I have exported from a PDF

Please help, I have bought this programme to convert PDF documents to word documents. All I find at the moment is that the document is not being converted and will not open once I have saved. It asks which programme I would like to select to open the saved file, and them does not work.
Please let me know where I am going wrong?
    Ko

    Good day Ko,
It sounds like the file extension may have been dropped when you saved the file to your computer.
Does your converted file have the .docx or .xlsx extension on the end?  If it doesn't, try renaming the file and appending the  file extension.  You should be able to open your saved document in Word or Excel then.
    Kind regards,
    David

  • Help with printing hard copy from Acrobat PDF

Copy created in InDesign and printed to Adobe PDF is OK on screen but printing hard copy with random chunks of text missing. Same on both my printers, doesn't happen with doPDF. Any ideas? Thanks

I suspect that what you are asking is simply to print to a new PDF with print as image selected. You can also save as an image file and then open the images as a new PDF.

  • PDF export for  columns formatted as HTML

    Hello,
I've created a report having some columns formatted as HTML .
in the PDF file exported from BI Answers dashboard, HTML tags are shown instead of formatted value.
(for example : "div style="width:100%;background-color:#FF3300">89.12%</div" instead of 89.92%)
Any ideas how to fix this ?
    BI version : 10.1.3.3.3
    Thank you.

    Hi dragosv,
I've also encountered similar problems to that. The OBIEE process does not first evaluate the code before it exports to other tools like PDF and Excel.
    Here are two options:
    1) Submit an SR to Oracle and have them declare it a bug
    2) Print to HTML first, then print the HTML to PDF. It adds a step but at least you can download your document the way you want.
    Best regards,

  • Export from pdf to Word not editable in Word

So, I need to be able to design something in InDesign, then pass it off to my client, who wants to be able to edit the text in Microsoft Word. My client is a restaurant. Sometimes their prices change, and they want to be able to edit the prices without having to use InDesign or Acrobat. They own Word already, and that's what they've used for past menu designs (I know, that's why they need me).
I've heard that you can export the InDesign as a PDF, then export from Acrobat as a Word doc. But when I do this, it leaves the Word doc text uneditable. It's basically like it's a picture. I know the PDF text was editable in Acrobat; why not in Word?
    Thanks.

The one option that might work would be to set up everything except the prices (just leave space). Then convert to PDF. In the spaces (you might actually use underlines for the field recognition -- I would use AcroForms and not Designer for the need), add form fields provide the prices. You can format the form fields to have no border or background, desired font and size, right justify, and even format as a number. You might try a simple example to see if that does the job. If you add Reader Rights (should not be a license issue since it is for a single use, no where near 500), then they can edit the prices in Reader and save it.
It is just that WORD is far from ideal for this application. For them to print the PDF form, they need to select in the print menu to print document and markup. The form fields are markup. If you present such a solution to them, they might actually like it. No matter what you did to create a nice menu in WORD, it is so easy for someone not good with computers to trash all your work in seconds. This form field solution would limit their ability to screw it up.
Of course, if they wanted to change the menu items, that is another story entirely. Going this field route might give you ideas for the future.
