Export from Address Book to import into database?

Hi all,
Is there any way to export my contacts as something other than a v-card?
I am trying to put my contact management to work in a Filemaker database, and I am hoping to automate the process of exporting more than 2000 contacts into something that I can import into filemaker.
This could be any one of a variety of formats (Tab delimited, Comma delimited, excel workbooks, etc), but not a v-card.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt

export as a vcard and use a converter like this one to convert to csv.

I am using a mail merge program that requires cvs or test files of address cards in order to operated. I can't figure out how to export from Address Book in any other format than Vcard. Does anybody know how to either export in text or covert Vcard files to text or CVS?

  • Ideas on how to export from Oracle (11g) for import into a MSSQL server?

    Hi folks,
Crazy question yes...but I have some devs that are needing to export some schemas/tables from Oracle to somehow import into MSSQL.
Are there any utilities our there, hopefully from Oracle that would allow for this? So far, all I can think of are to generate the DDL from the Oracle instance, and then do some scripts to output the data in a cvs type format....
    Anything better than this?
Any links or suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,

Senior Oracle DBAThank you for the prompt reply. I'm looking into this and am finding some Oracle documentation, but just off the top of my head, this approach seems to assume the 2 database servers can see or talk to each other.
What if the oracle box is on one network...that cannot connect to the network that the MSSQL box is on. For example..running off some test data from one company to another company with networks that do not cross?Assuming some acceptable export/import utility, how do you plan on getting the file from the source to the target if the two servers are on networks that cannot talk to each other?Well, I'm still trying to gather facts, this is just a question coming in from some developers.
From what it may be, is that the can scp from site to site, but no direct connectivity between the database servers on the sites...isolated, maybe a DMZ...I dunno everything yet.Well, you either have connectivity between the two machines or you don't. Binary decision tree.
    IF  net_connectivity_exists
you can use oracle sqlnet enabled capabilities
         OR
you can transfer an export file via ftp, sftp, scp, etc.
    ELSE
you have to transfer an export file via sneakernet
    END-IF

  • IMPORT/EXPORT FROM ADDRESS BOOK TO ENTOURAGE

Is there a way to export/import contacts from the Address Book to Entourage? Thanks

    Try this.
With the Address Book and Entourage launched and positioned so each is partially visible and the Entourage Address Book selected, select a contact in the Address Book "All" Group and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Select All. Click and drag the highlighted contacts from the Address Book to the Entourage Address Book window which should copy the Address Book contacts to the Entourage Address Book.
You can do the same with selected contacts only if you don't want to export all.

  • Export from one version and import into another version

We have a customer database that accidently got updated to 10.2.x but our application only supports 10.1.5 What we are wondering can we export the 10.2 database and import it into a new system that is at our supported version of 10.1.0.5?
Will the import even work or will it fail with unsupported version? Any other things we should be aware of?

For your addressbook, export the files to vCard on the PowerMac, then bring them over to your Mac Pro. For your iPhoto, copy the Users -> yourname -> Pictures folder to your Desktop on the Mac Pro, and open iPhoto on the Mac Pro holding the command and option keys.  Select the library file from that Pictures folder and open it.  It should import all the pictures into iPhoto as part of the rebuild process.  Other PowerPC to Intel migration issues are covered here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295

  • Export multiple vCards from address book -

I want to export my address book to a file so I can import it into an Outlook contacts. I can export the vCard but I can only export one file at a time. If I select to export the 'All Contacts' under Groups it still only does one vCard at a time. How do I export all of my vCards easily to a file and then import to Outlook?
    Thanks

Use Automator to export individual vCards from your Address Book. Do this:
Automator vCard Instructions: 1. Open Address Book. 2. Select entries you would like to export as individual vCards. 3. Open Automator. 4. Select Custom Workflow. 5. Add the following workflows in this order: Get Selected Address Book Items, Export VCards. 6. Change the setting in the Export VCards flow item to "Individual VCards". 7. Select a folder to export the VCard files. 8. Click Run.

  • Importing folders from Address Book

    Hi all,
I'm new to iPod and am wondering if there is a way to import folders from Address Book. At the moment I've got a long list of names in alphabetical order (some duplicated because they exist in more than one folder).
    Thanks,
    Andrew

You might want to ask for further suggestions in the Mac OS X 10.5 forum, then. Someone there might know how to get the database from Address Book 5 into AB4, if it's even possible.
    Regards.

  • Leopard Address Book Issue: Importing contact from tab delimited just hangs

I have 500 or so contacts, in Excel (they came from ACT on a PC). I have a number of fields not in the standard card layout so I painstakingly added all the right fields, saved the excel file on my Macbook Pro 2.4GHZ (running Leopard 10.5.1) as a "Tab delimited" file, and went into Address Book.
I selected "Import" and assigned all the fields from A.B. to the correct columns from the TXT file.
I chose "ignore first card" since the top row of the file had column names.
As I scan through it using the right arrow I can see the layout is ok.
HOWEVER--when I click "OK", it just sits there--no import happens, no NOTHING happens. I also have no red dot at the upper left to close the window--just the green dot at the upper left to maximize the screen.
After a few clicks here and there the application just hangs.
This is so bizzare--my wife is going to kill me since now I can't print labels for our holiday cards (I am in big trouble).
    Anyone have any ideas?

Address Book is most likely encountering an error parsing the file. You can find out if that is the case by opening /Applications/Utilities/Console.app and trying the import again. If you see error messages coming from Address Book, please paste them here.
As for how to fix it, there could be a few reasons why this is happening:
    * different lines contain different numbers of fields
    * lines include quotation marks or embedded return characters
I recommend searching http://www.versiontracker.com for "address book import". Perhaps a third-party application will be better suited to import your data into Address Book.
