Export from iMovie to Windows Media .wmv

I have recorded some video with my camcorder. I successfully got the video from my camcorder into my G5 with iMovie. I edited it in iMovie and then chose the "Share" function to covert it to Windows Media (.wmv). iMovie will only conver the first two seconds of the video and then quit. I also have Quicktime Pro and have tried to "Share" the video output as a Quicktime Movie, which works perfectly, then tried to "Export" the movie from .mov to .wmv. Again, the finished .wmv is only two seconds long.
Why won't Quicktime Pro export to Windows Media format (.wmv) for only two seconds? Anyone else have this problem?
Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Thanks for the reply. I didn't realize that when I installed the free Flip4Mac plug in that it added the .WMV export function....but it only let's you export two seconds of video.
I just paid the $49 bucks to Flip4Mac to get it to work...and it now works. It would have been nice if Filp4Mac had somehow let me know that I had to upgrade to get that function....it was very frustrating trying to get this to work!

    Hello:
I'm working with a square pixel wide screen iPad animation video. I built comps in AE and am editing in Premiere. I'm having issues with playback in Windows Media Player. Keyframe interpolation and cross dissolves are causing glitches. My pixel ratio is 872x486 And I want to export from Premiere with better results in WMP.
Your help with export settings is greatly appreciated.

  • How do I export from IMovie when "not enough room in Heap Zone" error code appears?   How can I correct,  what to Do.."export movie" insteand of Media browser or IDVD?  Finalize movie?  I want to burn it to DVD!

How do I export from IMovie to Wondershare Creator to Make DVD and share hour long movie when I am unable to "publish" movie on Media Browser of IDVD because the error code "not enough room in heap Zone/ " appears and function is aborted.
I shortened the movie, that is no cure...Correcting date info on clips does not pertain.  Why would Apple throw roadblocks in your way without solving problems they create?
A techie made an appointment on the phone and was totally incapable of addressing the problem.
    What is a heap zone????

Instead of Share to Media Browser, what happens if you try Share Menu > Export Movie... (choose Large size) and save it to the Desktop?
If that fails try Share Menu > Export using QuickTime...
Then pick Movie to QuickTime Movie, then click on Options... which is just to the right of Export
Under the Video section click on Settings...
Then in the pulldown menu at the top, titled Compression Type: Choose Apple Intermediate Codec. Then click OK. And click OK again, and save it to the desktop. Once the .mov file is created, you can import that into iDVD and most likely it will work in Wondershare Creator if you prefer to use that instead.

  • Best way to export from iMovie so that clip will play in Powerpoint on Windows?

Does anyone know the best settings so that a movie exported from iMovie will play in Powerpoint on a Windows machine?  Thanks.

You need one of the more expenseive Flip4Mac options. Flip4Mac Studio, Studio Pro, Studio Pro HD, for example.
Flip4Mac supplies a video component. To do the conversion, you need a tool like QuickTime Pro or Compressor. You take the file you created in iMovie and convert it using QuickTime Pro using the supplied component.
It is possible that a free tool like MPEG Streamclip would do the conversion (after purchasing the Flip4Mac components) but I haven't tried it personally.
You cannot do this conversion from within iMovie. You need to SHARE from iMovie, then convert.

  • IDVD Stops Responding when Exporting from iMovie

I'm using iDVD and iMovie (from iLife 06 and fully up to date) on a MacPro (also up to date on all software, MacOSX, Quicktime etc).
This proceedure has worked before several times but now results in a non-responding iDVD every time I try it, including an archive and re-install and a complete new install of OSX and all software on a new partition.
    What I'm doing.....
[1] Recording a TV programme on EyeTV (410) and exporting it to iMovie - sucessful every time
[2] Edit the iMove project and add chapter markers and save project - no problem.
[3] Export to iDVD - iDVD shows exporting in progress and whilst this is still showing iDVD launches
[4] iDVD starts playing the music from a std theme for a few seconds and then stops. Then resumes the music after resizing the window and then after a couple of more seconds freezes. From the Dock I can see that iMove and iDVD are "not responding"
[5] Eventually iMovie completes it's "export" and then starts responding normally. iDVD continues to show as non responding although I can move the window around the screen. I have to force quit iDVD to get it to close down.
    I have tried:
    Re-exporting the project from EyeTV
Deleting the preferences files for iMove and iDVD
Deleting the iLife suite and re-installing
Doing an OSX archive and re-install
Installing a fresh OSX (10.4.8) on a different drive and installing fresh software
Running Disk Utility - clean bill of health on both drives
    Repaired permissions
The Console reports the following errors when exporting from iMove to iDVD:

Result - problem persists. I'm at a loss as what to do next. Any suggestions greatfully received.

Yes, tried that when I deleted the preferences. Disk Utility did not report any permissions needed repairing.
What really mystifies me is that this export to iDVD did work once and I expected it to resume once I'd created a fresh OSX install along with all the iLife apps on a new partition, but it remained the same!
Perhaps there is some sort of other software conflict going on? I have Adobe CS2, MS Office, Toast and FMP installed all are latest editions. On the utilities front I have installed Stuffit Deluxe, Internet Cleanup, Contour USB controller for video editing and a LogicTech wireless trackball. Again all the drivers are the latest releases.
Does anyone know if there are any preferences associated with the other not responding applications listed in my other post that I could try the delete-reboot trick on?

  • Best practice for exporting from iMovie '08 to iDVD

I am looking to find out what is the best practice for exporting from iMovie '08 to iDVD. I have read the other postings that give the basic howto (export to Media Browser then select the video in iDVD). However, my question is a little more technical. I have 1080i HD projects. I am interested in burning them to DVD in the best possible quality. What setting should I be using when I publish to Media Browser?
I am wondering about quality loss due to more than one conversion/compression. I suspect that when I export to the Media Browser then this is occurring. If I am not mistaken iMovie is using something like H.264 for this. Then, when I run iDVD I suspect it will it do another conversion/compression, I think to get to MPEG2. Not only could this result in a loss of quality but also it will take extra time. I am interested to know what others think about this.
Finally, I am looking to create DVDs for a lot of video. I am wondering if there are any USB or firewire hardware devices out there that could speed up the compression. I use the Elgato Turbo.264 when I want to encode to H.264 but I wonder if there is something similar for DVD creation.
    Thanks in advance.

the standards for videoDVD are 720x480, and usually mpeg2 encoded..
so, your HiDef project HAS to be 'downsampled' somehow..
I would Export with Qucktime/apple intermediate => which is the 'format' your project is allready, and you avoid any useless 'inbetween encoding'..
iDVD will 'swallow' this huge export file - don't mind: iDVD cares for length, not size.
iDVD will then convert into DVD-standards..
you can 'raise' quality, by using projects <60min - this sets iDVD automatically to highest technical possible bitrate
hint: judge pic quality on a DVDplayer + TV.. not on your computer (DVDs are meant for TVdelivery)

  • When I try to export from iMovie '11 I get repeated messages that the project is too big. Why? Is there a workaround? (I have already cut a 40-minute movie into three chunks...)

When I try to export from iMovie '11 I get repeated messages that the project is too big. Why? Is there a workaround? (I have already cut a 40-minute movie into three chunks... the first exported to iDVD ok, but the next one of 15 minutes balked for the same reason -- too long...)

    I wish I had a mac :-P
Sadly, this is Windows machine so I dont have a non-iOS version of iMovie.  I have 2 ideas left.  The first is xfering the project to my iPhone 4 and trying to export it there (if that works, awesome but geez apple the iPad 2 is way more powerful than the iphone 4.. youd think I wouldnt even have to attempt this).  The 2nd idea is to start at the end of my movie and delete clips and sounds backwards, trying to export each time to find whatever clip is causing the issue (when the movie was 5 minutes it mixed no probem, so I only need to go that far).
    Wish me luck?
Also, is anyone else besides me and the 5 dudes in the other threads having this issue??  Speak up, guys - Apple cant a fix a problem they dont know about.

  • When i export a video in windows media format is shorter than the original

I tried a lot of time, using Quicktime 7.3.1, to convert a .mov video to a Windows Media .wmv video using the default settings but the result is shorter than original, my original video is 4 minutes, the exported just 30 seconds.
Maybe is my fault, something wrong in my laptop or a Quicktime bug?
I hope someone can help me
    Thanks, Marco.

You have the trail of Flip-4-Mac. You need to buy the full version to be able to convert to WVM.

  • When exporting from Imovie I get the following error? OSStatus error -2009

when exporting from Imovie I get the following error? OSStatus error -2009

    Hi
    Apple Support pages says.
    Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on)
If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software.

  • Audio drops when movie exported from iMovie into iDVD

    Hi there,
I am a problem which I can't seem to fix.
I have created a 7 minute long slideshow in imovie with MP3 files from iTtunes embedded. The video and audio are fine when exported as a MOV file (and within iMovie itself). But when exported into iDVD for burning, the audio drops out completely after 3 and a half minutes.
I've tried updating iMovie, iDVD etc., deleting encoded assets as it says to do here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24043?viewlocale=en_US
    to no avail.
Does anyone have any tips? My friend's wedding is on Saturday!
    Thanks so much.

  • Exporting from iMovie for additional editing?

I have an iMovie sequence that took a long time to edit, but I need to export the footage to another editing app (GoPro Studio). I invested a LOT of time creating the iMovie, but need to merge much of it with other GoPro footage. GoPro studio has a few features that can adjust for GoPRo wide angle lens etc that iMovie can't do.
I am concerned that once the footage has been rendered/exported FROM iMovie then rendered again in GoPro studio for final, that I will have an extra generation of interpolation that will further degrade the image quality. Is there a LOSSLESS export option form iMovie? (I'm using the most recent version)
I'm obviously not a pro video editor, but I am a pro photo retoucher, and would never create a second copy of a file using JPG format. I'm assuming that video rendering (exporting) also INTERPOLATES the pixels, resulting in a noticeable image degradation.
So is there a "LOSSLESS" export option? Or a format that is virtually indistinguishable form the original? I hope I'm being clear enough on this.
    thanks!

Do you have a MobileMe account? If so an alternative is to publish directly from iMovie to a MMe gallery. You can include several sizes of the same movie in the gallery to accommodate visitors with different connection speeds. This demo page has an example: Adding a MMe Gallery from iMovie 09.
Or, there are a couple of ways of embedding a QT movie into a web page that does not require the movie to load with the page, only when the play button is selected. See these demo pages: Opening Item in a New, Precisely Sized Window and QT Movies via Export for Web in QT Player.
This demo page has seven examples of the first method: PhotoPresenter Animated Slideshow Themes

  • Exporting from iMovie '09 in different formats

Does anyone know how to export from iMovie to a more acceptable format than .m4v because it doesn't appear to work on a powerpoint presentation and I would like to export it to .avi or .wmv or .mp4
PD I'd need it to be no more than 10 MB even if it looses quality
    THANKS

.m4v and .mp4 are the same thing, just modify the extension manually (or set up an Automator process if you need it frequently) and you should be all set.

  • IDVD: Files exported from iMovie 11, one works, one "Unsupported File Type : Unknown format"

I used footage from the same camera (taken on the same weekend using the same settings) in several different iMovie "projects". All were shared from iMovie 11 as "File" using the quality setting "SD 480p".
In Quicktime Player, all ".mp4" files will play and they show the following info in its inspector:
    Format: H.264, 854 x 480
                  AAC, 48000 Hz, Stereo (L R)
    FPS: 29.97
One exported file will drag, drop, and burn in iDVD just fine. The other two files show the error "Unsupported File Type : Unknown format" as soon as I try and drag them into iDVD.
The only difference I can find is that the one file that works is about 803MB, while the files that don't work are 1.87GB and 3.98GB.
All files and the iDVD project are in the same folder on my startup volume. I've tried deleting com.apple.idvd but that didn't help. I've tried rebooting and starting the iDVD project from scratch but I get the same results.
    Mac OS 10.9.1
    iMovie 10.0.1
    iDVD 7.1.2
    Any ideas?

Hello Bengt and thank you again for the replies.
As I mentioned in my previous posts, I'm using iMovie 10.0.1 which has very limited quality adjustments. In every case I chose the smallest size, which iMovie 10.0.1 calls "SD 480p (854 x 480)". I used this same setting on all exports.
I still have iMovie HD (6.0.4) and iMovie '11 (9.0.9) on my iMac so I tried both of them. In both cases, they could import only the file that works in iDVD. Both older versions of iMovie choked on the longer movies shared from iMovie 10.0.1.
I have many many hours into the editing of these clips and I do not want to have to go back and redo everything in an older version of iMovie. Might I be better off going with a different DVD creation software? Or am I out of luck? Because I can't really change iMovie 10.0.1's export settings, I'm afraid there's nothing I can do to get it to export it as something that iDVD can use (really, I can't even tell why it's different and why iDVD doesn't like it).
The software "WonderShare DVD Creator" has no issue with any of the files I've exported from iMovie 10.0.1.

  • Best way to export from iMovie 09 to iMovie HD

Due to a) image quality issues, and b) no export to tape feature, I need to stick with iMovie HD for all my editing needs.
However, I do want to use those nifty map and photo animations in my iMovie HD project. What are the best settings for exporting from iMovie '09 to a format that works in iMovie HD and is 1080i? Since I'm working with HD files, I don't really care about size.
    Thanks!

Thanks shawk, however, the DV stream is not in HD. It exports in 720x480 I think.
I've had some time to test out the AIC more. I can't find a difference between the 1080i and 1080p (even though it converts down to 1080i for the final). There doesn't appear to be a noticeable loss in quality and it seems to work perfectly with iMovie HD. Maybe I answered my own question? haha.

  • Best method for exporting from iMovie?

I have been having a lot problems with exporting from iMovie. I have a 30 minute movie that I want to compress to a file around 400~500mbs. I found the best results with Divx and .Avi files. Unfortunately, after I installed Tiger, I noticed that the audio was faster than the video, like " old kung-fu movies ".
I read in other forums that there are many problems with Divx compatibilty with Tiger. Whie waiting for a new version of Divx, can anyone give me some advice on the best way to export a movie from iMovie( good audio and video quality) thanks in advance!!
