Export from iStopMotion Pro to edit in iMovie 09

Hi,
I'd like to export a time-lapse movie I created in iStopMotion Pro (I started from very high quality JPG's, shot with a Nikon D700), so I can edit it in iMovie 09. Apparantly, iMovie does not import .mov files, so I tried "DV-PAL 16-9". Now, I don't know where exactly things change, but the end-result looks bad compared to the original movie I created in iStopMotion.
While I'm working in iMovie, the quality I see there, is already low, but maybe this is normal while working as you only see some kind of low quality preview? I'm not sure about this... But, in the end, when I save the iMovie result as HD 1280x720 (using the highest quality preset with 'Export Movie'), it doesn't improve. The quality remains low. To be more precise: the movie is less sharp and straight lines get this ugly jagged look.
What am I doing wrong here?
Thanks,
Kris

Thanks a lot for that Steve,
I have an NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256MB graphics card with 4GB RAM so is this considered slow? what would be the minimum for smooth playback of full size video. Is there much loss in quality when it's downsized? What other video editing software would you recommend. I'd like to burn projects to DVD with minimal loss in quality and know that exports to iDVD compress the video where you get considerable loss.
Cheers

  • Exporting from Premiere Pro CC 2014

    Hello there,
Every time that I am willing to export my project my Premiere Pro CC 2014 stop responding all together. I tried the short cut (Commend+M) or going through the Manu bar. the result is the same, Premiere Pro CC 2014 just freezes and does not respond to anything till I force quit it and restart it allover again. I tried exporting from Premiere Pro it self, without using Media Encoder, but the problem remains the same.
I am using the new Mac Pro. I heard Adobe Premiere Pro is experiencing  problems with the New Mac Pro. Is that true? Or is there other issue?
Thank you and looking forward to hear back,

Thank you very much and appreciate your help enormously.
Since preference files get touched by the application frequently, there is always the possibility of their corruption. When this happens, you start to see what we call "unexpected behaviors" from Premiere Pro. This problem happens infrequently, but it is a good first troubleshooting step to try on your own. This is the case with most every non-linear editing application I have used over the years (Final Cut Pro, Avid, Media 100, etc.).

  • Exporting from Soundtrack Pro - Trouble

I am having problems exporting from Soundtrack Pro. I haven't had these problems before.
I have tried to export a track to MP3 and to Compressor but all I get is the Exporting window and that's as far as it goes. It says, 'Time Remaining: Estimating...' but then that's it. I had even left it for a few hours and still nothing happened.
The program isn't frozen, just the export isn't working. Is this a common problem? Can it be fixed?
    Many thanks.

    I have the same problem...
I finished working on a project and when I tried to export it - it would start out just, tell me that it would be done in less than a minute and the just suddenly stop 1/4 of the way for no reason. Same thing happens whatever I do - in the same exact place. I spent a lot of time finishing this edit so I really want to get it back to FCP.
    Can anyone help?

  • Media Encoder crashes when exporting from Premiere Pro

Media Encoder crashes when exporting from Premiere Pro. I am queueing multiple files for export and Media Encoder will crash. The computer system has 32GB of RAM and the videos export fine in Premiere, but that requires exporting each one individually. Each video file is being down converted and some can be quite long (upwards of 3-5 hours). Nothing else is running on the computer that would take up memory.
Any idea why Media Encoder will crash?

    Try turning off GPU acceleration.

  • Why remove .flv export from Premiere Pro CC 2014? And what's a good workaround?

Why remove .flv export from Premiere Pro CC 2014? And what's a good workaround?

OK, so you want to put it on your own web page. That's fine as long as you know how to create a web page.
The next thing you have to decide is how big do you want the video to appear on the web page. Many people just post on YouTube and then embed the video into their web page. That way, the video can take advantage of all of the various sizes that YouTube provides.
In any case, I suggest that you use H.264. But the data rate depends on the size of the file. If you are going to display it in HD, then you probably want to start at about 20Mb/s and go up or down from there. The required data rate depends on what you find acceptable, and that depends on the amount of movement in the video. For example, a talking head next to a white board explaining something requires a lot less bits to represent the image because less changes are taking place from frame to frame. If you use 10Mb/s for that, you might find 20Mb/s or more is required to make you happy if you shot a football game from the sidelines.
I generally use settings that look like this image. If you have any questions as to why I choose these settings, feel free to ask.

  • Losing audio quality when exporting from premiere pro

I have now had this happen with two different videos. I play the video in premiere pro and the audio is fine. I export the video and lose most of the quality of the audio portion. One project is a music session when exported I only get the main vocal the drums aren't audible only a buzz sound is made where the kick drum would usually come in. On another project is a thank you video for a family member and the audio is distorted after being exported. The audio sounds fine inside of the session. Once exported the audio will still work fine on my computer and my iphone 5s as long as I'm wearing headphones, once I try to play the video through my iphone 5s speakers the audio quality is gone, making the noises as previously stated. My iphone can still play other tracks fine but videos and audio exported from Premiere Pro are distorted. Any advice on how I can export the video so I wont lose audio quality when playing the video on an iphone? I know it's not my iphone speakers, they play other songs just fine.

The source files as far as the audio goes are wav files that I've pulled off of my desktop. My sequence settings are 1920 by 1080 at 29.97 frames per second. The export settings are H.264 with the preset YouTube (HD 1080 29.97 FPS) and I've also tried HD video 1080p 29.97 FPS. If this isn't enough information please let me know I'm in the learning phase. Audio wise the quality is set to high and I'm exporting at 4800 kh and a bit rate of 190. I've also tried a bit rate of 320 and 264 I think it is and still had the same problems.  Let me know if I need to do screen shots I really want to figure this out.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Export from QT Pro as AVI  reduces quality of video drastically

I need AVI for poor PC users in family.
Original video is AVI from a Samsung digital still camera, saved and edited in QTPro 7.2 on iMac.
Export as AVI using Default or Highest Quality Settings, results in a severe degradation of colour tonal gradation - which was OK in the original AVis (viewable in Quicktime), and in QT.
It looks like the number of colours has been reduced from thousands to hundreds ( ? 256)
Filesize is similar- MOV 41.6 MB, AVI 39.5 MB.

The only detail given in the Samsung Pro 815 manual is "file type .avi (MJPEG)". I used default Cinepak compression to export as .avi
Now we're getting somewhere. Motion JPEG is a common video codec used by certain digital camera manufacturers in the AVI container. It is a moderate compression/higher quality codec. Cinepak is an older, high efficiency video codec probably better suited to smaller resolution use. Comparing CinePak to MJPEG would, in some ways, be like comparing MPEG-4 to H.264. In both cases the video data rate of your final "Cinepak" AVI needs to be on the order of 2.0-2.5 times the data rate of your original "MJPEG" AVI file for equivalent quality. While I do not normally deal with such files, a previous poster ask for help in converting his Casio (MJPEG/DVI ADPCM) files for use in iMovi '08. Wile the original file is not of the highest quality, I prepared a clip to compare the original "MJPEG" AVI video track with the final "Cinepak" AVI track. (For comparison purposes, these two tracks were stored in an MOV file container so they could be compared on a "frame-to-frame" basis.) If interested, here is the URL for this comparison.
    http://homepage.mac.com/jrwalker4/.Public/CIMG8145Comp.mov
For QT7 Pro to edit the original .avi clips, they have to be saved as .mov.
Strange. I can convert directly from the "MJPEG" AVI to "Cinepak" AVI file.
This is instantaneous, and causes no quality loss. No file conversion or re/de/compression seems to occur.
    Correct.
Exporting Cinepak .avi obviously requires considerable processing, so it seems that the codec used in the Samsung .avi is native to QT
This codec basically sequences a series of still JPEG photos in either the AVI or MOV file container. As such it is compatible with probably any system capable of viewing JPEG photos and opening either file container. This compatibility is probably the reason this codec was selected in the first place by the camera manufacturer.
The issue is clearly that the QT7 >Cinepak .avi export process (?deliberately) degrades video quality, without reducing file size, even though it claims to be using "Best" quality and "millions" of colours.
Each codec has its own characteristics. If a small file is what you want, then reduce the resolution of your movie or accept the reduction in quality at its current resolution. If quality is your main concern, then increase your video data rate so it can store as much of the original quality as it can at the current resolution or simply switch to a more modern codec, Microsoft ended support for the AVI file container a decade ago.
Is there a secret QT setting, or plug-in, which will do the export without loss of quality, to an .avi or other format which bog-standard WMP on XP will play?
As demonstrated in the sample file above, the only setting that needs to be changed is the data rate. As to other possible compression formats, you could use more modern codecs like WMV 9 (Flip4Mac) or DivX 6.

  • Is there a way to set a default "Source Range" in AME when exporting from Premiere Pro CC?

When exporting a sequence from Premiere Pro CC, you are able to toggle between 4 drop down options within Adobe Media Encoder on what Source Range you'd like to export (Work Area, Sequence In/Out, Entire Sequence, Custom) as seen here:
Is there a way to set the default Source Range to something besides Sequence In/Out?
My reason for asking is that sometimes I export multiple sequences at once using AME's Queue. I add my custom presets to each Sequence and hit export, but SOMETIMES I may have accidentally marked an in point on my timeline and by default it's set to export only that In-to-Out part of the sequence.
I know what you may be thinking...well, just don't add any In/Out points to your sequence on the timeline or clear them first. The trouble is that I often don't see them or catch them when working quickly. In Premiere Pro CC, I use the "Lighter Brightness" Appearance setting because it's easier on my eyes after editing 10 hours a day, 6 days a week. Sure, darker looks cooler, but it kills my eyes for some reason. Anyway, PPro CC has a troublesome appearance issue in CC where it's not "optimized" for editing when you change it to a lighter appearance like it was in CS6. I've already contacted Adobe about this and another appearance issue (involving highlighted clips when in Lighter Appearance setting) and they are "actively working on fixing this appearance issue asap".
For reference, here's Premiere Pro CC in/out points in default dark appearance (notice the slightly lighter grey area):
Now here's that same in/out in "Lighter Appearance":
Not exactly optimized. Can hardly see it. Good luck spotting that little guy on a long timeline. Sadly, this affects in/out points in the Source Window as well. Really hard to see.
Conversly, CS6 looked the best (the blue REALLY stands out making things easy to see):
So my question again...is there a way to set the default "Source Range" to something else besides Sequence In/Out so that I don't end up doing what I just did and leaving for several hours while batch exporting only to come back and find that I exported only a "portion" of one of my big sequences?
    Thank you!

Here is the solution:  Slow down. Give your project some love. Smell the roses.
Agreed about the roses but alas my next project always calls. Actually, I think what happens is I give each project SO much love that when it comes to exporting, I've run out of time.
    shooternz wrote:
Then it would not be a default...it would be an option and you already have that option.
Semantics aside, I would love to be able to have it at least default to whatever option was last chosen. Or, perhaps I shouldn't use the word default again...I'd love it to simply remember my preferred setting. That's all.

  • How do I export from Premiere Pro CC to Final Cut Pro X?

    Here are my system specs:
    iMac (late 2012)
    Fusion Drive
Processor 3.1 GHZ Intel COre i7
    Memory 16GB 1600MHZ DDR3
    OSX 10.9.1
    Running
    Premiere Pro CC 7.2.1
    and FCP X 10.1
    Hello there,
I have a fairly complex 3:00minute sequence that I want to export from Premiere using XML and then import into FCP X.
I exported and the tranlation error log was too long so I duplicated, shortenened and simplified the sequence and the translation errors seemed much more manageable. I quit premiere pro and ran FCP X. Import->XML And the XML files were all greyed out! I couldnt even select them. I tried compying the entire project file including a copy of the XML into FCP and still no luck. Am I missing something here?

Jim, some people (maybe not that many) are FCP X editors, so it's a good feature.
Also, I personaly find Premiere 10 years back in terms of editing. FCP X in my opinion has more editing features to make my life easy. The last release has also been a great update.
I have been editing in Premiere the whole year 2013, and I can't go back to the "old fashion" editing since i started editing in FCP X. but that's a matter of preference. The problem is that the other editors in my office use Premiere, so XML exchange is a must.

  • Exporting from Quicktime for optimal editing in FinalCut Express

I've read that it is recommended to export H.264 for best quality in Quicktime, but Final Cut Express doesn't play H.264 in real time. It forces you to render if you want to edit in the timeline. What is the best format to export from Quicktime in to enable real time editing in FCE?

To convert the file so that FCE doesn't need rendering you need QuickTime Pro and do the following:
    - open the file
    - menu File > Export...: then select +Export: Movie to QuickTime Movie+ and click Options.
    - In the +Video > Settings+ dialog select:
    - Compression Type: DV/DVCPRO-NTSC (or DV-PAL) and make sure that:
    - Frame Rate: 29.97 (or 25), Quality is Best, Scan Mode: Interlaced, Aspect Ratio: 4:3 (or 16:9 if anamorphic)
    - In the +Sound > Settings+ dialog select:
    - Format: Linear PCM, Channels: Stereo (L R), Rate: 48000, Quality: Normal, Sample size: 16 bits
The result is a .mov file (not .dv) that doesn't need rendering when imported to FCE to a sequence with setup DV-NTSC (or PAL).

  • Why is my video pixelated when exporting from Premiere Pro?

    Hi,
I'm a musician wanting to make some basic videos for YouTube. The videos will consist of an intro (logo, title etc) and audio playing over a still image which will last the duration of the song. I've edited the still image for the video within Photoshop (CS5.1). The image is of a woman screaming and is intentionally very dark. When I export this image from Photoshop, the quality is excellent. When I then import this image into Premiere Pro (CS5.5) and export as the finished video, the quality of the image is significantly reduced and is rather pixelated. After spending hours searching online and trying different settings to achieve the result I want, I've had no luck, and I'm now in desperate need of a professional opinion. Is it possible to get the same quality image within the exported video as I get from an exported Photoshop file?
    Things I've tried:http://www.ashmathos.com/Musici
Photoshop - Exporting image using different file types - .tif , .PNG , .PSD  etc
Premiere Pro - Exporting video using different formats - .FLV , Quicktime and MPEG4
                        - Changing the Capture format between DV and HDV
                        - Different presets - AVCHD, HDV, DV - PAL/NTSC etc
Both the image exported from Photoshop and the video are 1080p (square pixels)
An example of what I've explained can be found here:
    http://www.ashmathos.com/Musician/Test
(The video can be found below the image)
    To any responders,
    Thank you!

Can't you see how the video is pixelated? Mainly around the nose and forehead?
Nope.  Looks fine when I watch it.
