Export Gif? Save for web?

Do either of these options exist in InDesign, anywhere, with a plugin or whatever?
Thanks!

What app would that be?
As much as each of us here would like to have one-more-feature in ID or our other favorite apps, I like it that Adobe has retreated from overwhelming featuritis in every app, and has compartmented functions in sensible ways.
When a maker tries to put every conceivable feature into an app, no matter how obscure or unwanted or infrequently used, you end up with unusable, buggy junk that is too hard to use efficiently.
As vast an array of publication and design projects as I do, I can't imagine a workflow where I would need/want to use ID to end up with a GIF for a web designer. Your choices and needs are very narrow, so it's not surprising that it takes at least two tools and some ingenuity to get from start to finish. I have some similar workflows that are driven by outside needs and require a desktop juggling act to complete... but I still wouldn't want the features built into any one app. The human in the chair is still the final uber-app. :)

  • Animated Gif - Save for web not showing full frame range

    Hey,
    I'm trying to export an animated gif with 52 frames - I'm using the timeline in CS6, it's exported correctly in the past but when I try and save for web only a seemingly arbitrary number of rames appear in the animation. With no clear route to rectify this, I've tried to affect the outcome by simply moving things around on the timeline.
    I've had a variety of frame ranges (and frames) numbering between 2 and 6 frames, far off my 52 target. It's a simple image and equally simple transition to keep filesize down but I'm completely bamboozled by this. It looks like a bug but any advice I could get would be much appreciated.

    If it worked in the past with CS6 try resetting your CS6 Photoshop Preferences.  If you still have the problem after that.  Up load the PSD file to a server and post a link to it.

  • GIF/Save for Web problem (PSE 7)

    I've tried searching for an answer to this problem but nothing seems to address quite what's happening.
    I recently had to replace my laptop, and switched from Windows XP to Windows 7.  I transferred PSE 7 from the old system to the new system, and have had no trouble with it- until now.  I have a 52-layer Photoshop-format image that I would like to save as an animated .gif, with each layer as a different frame.  File >> Save As has the option to save Layers as Frames, but if I check it, then click "Save", nothing happens.  Nothing at all.  On my old system, I'd get a new dialogue with options like quality, duration per frame, loop, etc, but that's not happening anymore, and nothing saves (if I go to find the new .gif file, it's just not there). If I DON'T choose "Layers as Frames", the .gif dialogue comes up just fine, and it has no trouble saving as a static .gif.  But it seems that it's just refusing to save it in animated format.
    I'm having the same issue with "Save For Web".  Neither the file menu option or the keystroke command will bring up the dialogue to let me save it that way.  It thinks for maybe a second, but then doesn't do anything else, and doesn't save the image.
    I've already tried resetting the layout, just in case the dialogue box was shifted somewhere I just wasn't seeing, and I tried resetting the Save For Web preferences, but neither of those things worked.  Any explanation as to why an animated "Layers as Frames" .gif is the only format that isn't saving properly?
    I've also tried opening old animated .gifs that I created with XP, and they will not re-save as animated .gifs either.  I get the "Do you want to save the changes made" dialogue, but clicking "Yes" doesn't do anything and doesn't save the updates.  I'm at a complete loss for why this function no longer works.

    Glad you got it working.
    It takes some getting use to the differences between xp and windows 7
    in regards to permissions and all that stuff. Even when you install
    programs on an administrative account, problems still persist sometimes.
    What i do is always install programs by right clicking on the installer and
    choosing Run as Administrator even when installing on an account with administrative
    permissions. I seem to have less problems doing it that way. Anyway, just something to
    keep in mind for the future.

  • Export or save for web crops artwork incorrectly

    Illustrator incorrectly crops artwork too small by a few pixel when using Save for Web or Export. If you fit an artboard to your artwork, either manually using smart guides or by using the "Fit to Selected" command, it will look correct in the work area but when you go to Save for Web it will be noticeably truncated on the right and bottom sides. If all the artwork is supposed to be within the artboard then toggling "Clip to Artboard" will actually change the size of the exported image by 1 or 2 pixels when it shouldn't change at all. Can somebody confirm that this is a bug?

    Which version of Illustrator are you using ?

  • Save For Web & Devices GIF Preset options

    In PS CS3, when saving for Web & Devices as a GIF, there's the default Preset of "[Unnamed]" with various drop down options such as GIF 128 Dithered, GIF 128 No Dither, 64, 32, GIF Restrictive, etc. I'm looking for the highest quality GIF. What should I use? Thank you.

    Thanks for the feedback. I am using the images on a website that are somewhat larger than thumbnail size so it's not real critical. I know that generally GIFs are preferable for logos and text and JPGs for photo like images. These are a mix of art images and text. I don't know much about PNG though I notice in the GIF Save for Web & Devices drop down there are also options for PNG-24 and PNG-8 128 Dithered.
    Bottom line, I'd like to know which is the best quality GIF save option of these and then I can decide between that and a JPG.

  • Trying to not save artboard when exporting or using save for web and devices

    Hello,
    I am using AI CS5 and I am trying to save a logo that is on an 8.5 x 11 artboard.  When I try to export or 'save for web and devices', I am getting the entire artboard to be saved - not just the logo like I want.  I have never had this issue in CS3, and just started using CS5 so I am not sure if there is a new feature that I need to be turning off to just save the logo instead of the entire 8.5x11 page.
    Any help is appreciated,
    Kristie

    Thanks!  It was under the object - slice.  You've saved my sanity

  • PS CS6 action save for web error

    In Photoshop CS6 actions when we save the image as JPEG through save for web it doesn't work when we run it, instead it runs and saves the image as HTML, i guess some error in it. I tried it again and again but it doesn't remember my save for web settings and saves the images as HTML.

    It a new bug in CS6 though when you recorded the action you saved jpeg images to you desktop and you only entered file names onto the save for web action steps the action recorder recorded name.html.  I replaced you save for web steps on my machine for my desktop and CS6 recorded  name.html.  I then did the same with CS5 though I only entered names CS5 recorded name.jpg.
    If you expand the export steps tou will see the hard coded file names and extention
    An action like this will always save the same files it can not be batch because you recorded Path and Names in the save for web steps.  The .html files saved on with CS6 are actually jpeg files and if you rename them hrom name.html to name.jpg you can use them,

  • Retaining original filenames in Save For Web droplet

    Automation from LR to PS is going groovy, but,
    The output files are all being renamed by the 'save for web' dialogue box to the filename saved inside the action that the droplet points to..
    So file #1 is saved ok,
    File #2 renamed as file #1 and replaces/overwrites original file #1..
    I have added a sequence 4 digit number to the file name in the droplet creation dialogue box but the final file rename happens after this in the final process of 'Save for Web' export..
    This is what I want to do.. Ideally..
    LR Raw file edited to taste,
    Export as watermarked TIF to PS
    Action a high pass filter,
    Export through Save for Web @ 1200px long - 75% quality
    Close TIF without saving.
    Es possible?

    Hi JJ,
    Nope, I didn't change any names.. or do you mean I automatically/inadvertantly change the name when recording the 'save for web' step?
    In your image above, mine looks similar but the filename is that of the file I need to have open in need to record an action..
    In my case, using your example, all my exported files would be renamed 'webnamed.jpg'
    and overwrite each export one by one...
    What is it I'm not getting??? !!
    How can you record an action without an open file, that the 'action record process' records THAT filename and makes it sticky in the action..
    Sorry to come across as really blonde here but I'm just not getting it..
    Here's what mine says..

  • CC: Selecting slices in "save for web"

    Hi,
    today, I tried to use the export function "save for web" in Illustrator CC 17.1.0 for the first time in many weeks.
    I created a document with some slices. Strangely, in the dialogue of "save for web", the image preview isn't shown in the original size although the setting is set to 100%. It seems, like the preview is only about 50% of the original image size.
    Furthermore, it is impossible to select the specific slices for renaming it. Also setting up the preview to 200% doesnt solve the problem.
    I already uninstalled illustrator with the uninstall file and downloaded the software from the cloud again. But the problem still exists. I also created a complete new document without success...
    I don't get the point. Does anyone have an idea how to fix it?
    I'm using Mac OS 10.9.1.
    Thanks!

    I'm seeing this on both my HiDPI laptop display and an external display where the pixel ratio is 1.
    I use Save for Web almost every day, so I suspect there was a bug introduced in the latest version of Illustrator. I've also found that when vector graphics are copied and pasted from Illustrator into Photoshop they come in at slightly smaller dimensions. Could be related?
    Using File -> Save Selected Slices... in Illustrator seems to work fine, however.
    I'm also on Mac OS 10.9.1, running Illustrator CC 17.1.0 on a Retina MacBook Pro, Mid 2012

  • Artwork shifting when exporting or saving for web?

    Have been creating some simple icons in Illustrator (CS 5.5), but the artwork is shifting when I try to export. For example, I'll create a 30x30px artboard, draw the icon inside the artboard, end export as a PNG. When I do this, even though the artwork is completely within the bounds of the artboard (no drop shadows or anything like that that would extend outside the artboard), there is some slight clippling that occurs in the exported icon. It's like Illustrator is shifting the artwork to the right and/or down 1 pixel as it exports.  Any ideas what might be happening here?
    In the meantime, as a work-around I've just been copying the artwork from Illustrator, pasting it into a 30x30px canvas in Photoshop, pasting the artwork, adn then doing Save for Web. This works fine, but is an extra step that I'd rather not have to do.

    Jacob,
    I tried enabling "Use Preview Bounds" as you suggested, but it still showed everything within the artboard. This was as expected since I set the button stroke for inside alignment rather than centered alignment when I created it.
    I've attached an image showing the icon in 3 states. The left most image is the icon as it appears in Illustrator shown within the artboard. Actually the artboard was created by clicking on the icon.  When "Use Preview Bounds" was enabled, it lined up perfectly with the artboard lines.  The middle image shows the icon in the Save for Web dialog preview. You can see that it already looks shifted.  The last image on the right shows the exported icon where the right and bottom edges looked cropped.
    As I mentioned, if I create a 30x30px canvas in PS, copy the artwork into it, and export using Save for Web for PS, it looks fine.
    Thanks for your help, BTW.

  • Save For Web Error in CS6

    When I try saving an Illustrator file using Save For Web in CS6, if the file isn't split up into slices I get an error "Could not complete this operation. There are no user slices." If I open the file in CS5, it exports perfectly fine (and with the XHTML page creation that used to be part of Save For Web that I'm pissed has been stripped out...)
    Can anybody explain why this is happening? I never had to create slices to make images export w/ Save For Web in the past.

    I had this problem too. I think I've fixed it.
    Try:
    Open Illustrator and start a new document.
    Create a new slice (Shift+K) anywhere on the document.
    File > Save for Web...
    In the bottom right corner there is an option for “Export”. Change this to “All Slices”.
    Save that out  so that Illustrator retains that option as default.
    Hope that helps.

  • Save For Web & Devices Won't Export Gif Format

    Hi:
    I had previously exported a web page created on PS as .jpg slices. Now when I try to export - Save For Web & Devices/Gif - it still saves as .jpg slices. TIA for any advice.

    Make sure to select all (command-a) in the SFW dialog to change the settings of linked slices.

  • .gif preview slow in Save for Web

    I am having an issue in Save for Web where the .gif animation preview works very slow and choppy. I am an advertising designer and many times I need to work on animated .gif banners. I am working with Photoshop CS6. When I play the animation in the frame timeline the animation speed works as intended, a little choppy but the timing isn't too bad. However when I go into the Save for Web screen and play the animation it always appears a lot slower and looks choppy. Anything se to 0.0 or No Delay runs as if its set to .1 seconds. Now if I export the file and open it in Chrome the animation speed seems to go back to normal. This wasn't always the case, I tested this 2 or 3 months ago and the animation speed in the export was also slow and choppy but it must have been fixed in one of the updates since then.
    My issue is I don't want to have to preview everything in Chrome after I export it, and then possibly have to go back and tweak it then save again, preview again etc. I have never encountered this issue in previous versions on Photoshop or other machines. Ususally my experience has been the opposite, the frame timeline has always been slower, but previewing in Save fro Web has shown a pretty accurate preview.
    I also have a HP laptop running Windows 7, photoshop CS6 and I don't encounter this issue at all. It seems that everyones default answer on all of the forums is "different browsers handle .gif animation speeds differently, etc.." but int he past I have saved a .gif on my mac and it was slow and choppy in the Chrome, then I saved the same file on my PC transfered it back to the mac and previewed in Chrome and the animation played quickly and smoothly.
    I can't see it being a hardware issue because the machine I am using is farily new. iMac Late 2013/2013, 3.4 Ghz Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX 1024 MB, running OSX 10.8.4 Mountain Lion.
    Could it possibly be a setting or preference that needs to be changed? As I stated above it seems that now when I export the animation works fine in the browser the preview is just slow, but I have read that many people are having this issue so hopedully someone will have a solution.

    I don't use a Mac but the first the first thing I do when I have performance problems with Photoshop on my PC is to do some house cleaning.  I reset my Photoshop Preference to a saved copy I made when Photoshop was working well.  I Also clean my disk up clearing caches and temp files so the plenty of scratch space.  I close all applications and look at the machine CPU utilization. Then try Photoshop to see if it is back to its normal performance.

  • Gif becomes grainy/pixelated in 'Save For Web'

    Hello! I recently switched laptops and I have been having major issues trying to regain the quality gifs I used to make. After I have my gif set to go, I go to save it in 'Save For Web'. This is where all of my problems start. My gif no longer looks smooth, but the entire thing has a grainy or pixelated look -- and it doesn't change no matter how I fiddle with my settings. When switching from the 'original' to the 'optimized' tab in the save for web page, you can obviously see a loss of quality. It may be slight, but it makes a huge difference to me.
    Here's a side by side reference:
    Not sure if it will help, but here are my settings when saving (I have changed from 'pattern' to 'diffusion' and nothing changes):
    Thank you for any help you can provide!

    First, JJMack is correct: lots of colours (around 32100) in this example do make it harder to convert without grain.
    Second, the quality of the GIFs you produced in Save for Web (SfW) prior to the purchase of the new laptop were never any "better" - it merely means that the previous screen was unable to display the results at a decent enough quality to actually discern the differences between the original and the GIF version with reduced colours. Screen quality does matter.
    Second, Photoshop's Save for Web colour reduction algorithms are quite old-fashioned, and (far) better methods are available. Not in Photoshop, however. For a good conversion you will have to look elsewhere.
    Here is the original version @2x zoom (32101 colours):
    Photoshop's version. The best visual quality I could achieve in SfW (diffusion dither at 81%, perceptual). Obvious banding issues, and a very grainy result.
    Next up: RIOT (Radical Image Optimization Tool). RIOT features a newer "NeuQuant neural-net" colour quantization algorithm. Notice how the gradients are quite nicely retained, although here and there some issues pop up (lips/makeup, building, arm highlight, and greenery are missing colour). Overall, though, the final result is much less grainy looking than Photoshop's effort. At the expense of smaller areas with unique colours.
    Next, let's try Color Quantizer with standard settings,  a two factor gradient priority, and 256 colours. Dithering was set to Shiau-Fan @75%. Slight banding in the lighter areas of the background, and the building and lips are again missing colours from the original. Much less grainy than Photoshop's version.
    Colour Quantizer features a quality mask brush, which allows us to safeguard smaller areas with unique colours from colour degradation. I painted a mask for the lips, the building and greenery in the background, the skin of the woman on the right in the background, the lighter area around the vent, and the forehead to preserve those areas' quality as much as possible.
    I feel this result speaks for itself. There is slight banding visible in the lighter area of the wall on the right, but still much less pronounced compared to SfW's version. The colours are all there, especially the important ones for the makeup and the smooth facial tones of Kate. The shoulder's highlight is also preserved nicely. Even the woman on the right in the background looks spot on (which was yet another sore point in SfW's version).
    Arguably the best version. Far superior to Photoshop's failed effort.
    Fourth, if you are still using GIF to optimize still images: STOP NOW. GIF is terrible in comparison to properly optimized and compressed PNG files. Only use GIF when small animated movies are your goal.
    Here is a 512 colour version produced in Color Quantizer (Photoshop's SfW function lets us down once more, unfortunately: there is no option to reduce an image to 512 colours for PNG):
    This last version is visually (mostly) indistinguishable from the original, and clocks in at only 52kb.
    Of course, if you are saving this as a still image, jpg should have been your choice in the first place, since it is a photo.
    Conclusions:
    - avoid Photoshop's "Save for Web" function if your intention is a quality colour reduction;
    - avoid GIF for still images. Either use PNG or JPG. JPG works best for photos;
    - avoid Photoshop and SfW if your intention is to optimize PNGs well. Sfw cannot save PNG files with reduced colours beyond 256 colours;
    - fall back to external and/or online utilities to optimize PNG and GIF files. Color Quantizer and RIOT deliver better results than SfW. Or use online optimization tools to optimize animated GIFs (Optimize animated GIF). You can also optimize each frame in a tool such as CQ, and then import the individual frames into a animated GIF utility. Remember, each frame can save its own custom 256 colour palette;
    - for optimum quality a quality mask tool, such as the one in CQ, is a very effective and efficient method to guarantee the best possible conversion;
    - file sizes of png files created in external utilities almost always beat the ones generated in Photoshop and SfW;
    - a better choice to export PNG files is Photoshop CC Generator. At least that one allows for 8bit PNG files with full transparency (another missing essential feature that SfW fails to provide).

  • Save for Web Export

    I am trying to use the save for web export option to save out a file of type JPEG.
    I have gotten the code working fine if it saved out with the default file type of .gif, but I cannot get it to work with .jpg.
    set theExportOptions to {class:save for web export options, interlaced:true, quality:30}
    tell current document
    export in (theLocation as text) as save for web with options theExportOptions
    end tell
    These are the pertinent lines from my code, so if anybody can tell me how to save the file as type JPEG so that it is a scripted version of Photoshop's save for web feature, that would great.
    I am also using Photoshop CS2 v9.02 if that helps.

    You would have to code that seperate eg:
    FitImage(1000,500);
    function FitImage( inWidth, inHeight ) {
       if ( inWidth == undefined || inHeight == undefined ) {
          alert( "FitImage requires both Width & Height!");
          return 100;
       var desc = new ActionDescriptor();
       var unitPixels = charIDToTypeID( '#Pxl' );
       desc.putUnitDouble( charIDToTypeID( 'Wdth' ), unitPixels, inWidth );
       desc.putUnitDouble( charIDToTypeID( 'Hght' ), unitPixels, inHeight );
       var runtimeEventID = stringIDToTypeID( "3caa3434-cb67-11d1-bc43-0060b0a13dc4" );
       executeAction( runtimeEventID, desc, DialogModes.NO );

  • Partial transparency with save for web gif?

    Hey all,
    I remember back in the day of photoshop 6 or maybe even 7, when I would create partial transparent .gif files through the "view menu" export transparency button, or something like that, and it would let me create beautiful partial transparent .gif files all with nicely rasterised edges.
    I'm noticing in these newer versions of photoshop I have to save in the .png format to do that same thing (get that clean transparency).
    Am I still able to create clean rasterised transparencies in gif file format via save for web in PS CS5 etc??? Or am I missing something?
    Once of those things that bugs me and I need an older head to set me straight.
    Any help would be great

    One can still use them, I guess.  But read this article for GIF and its replacement PNG.  http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CCQQFjAA&url=http%3A%2 F%2Fwww.w3.org%2FQA%2FTips%2Fpng-gif&ei=_JQTT_rOMcHjiAKF-vXtDQ&usg=AFQjCNHQ7JbGtlwXdnK5BWp 7tXEJ7IpfhQ
