Export Help

Hello -
For years now, I've been downloading my Canon AVCHD home movie footage to Final Cut Pro (first 7, now X) and then burning the resulting project to Bluray via Final Cut's "Share" command.  The resulting blurays looked stunning.  As of late, however, I have been moving from burning to bluray  to burning to hard drive (for an XBMC home media server) and the resulting footage is always, for lack of a better term, muddy.  Does anyone know the settings I should use to retain the crisp high-def look I see on the original footage and the blurays?  I have tried exporting to 1080p devices, h264, and ProRes 422 (LT).  I hasten to use Master File because the resulting files would be humungous.  Ideally I'd want to keep the resulting projects around the same size as the blurays (around 25gb for 90 minutes) which doesn't seem unreasonable.  Any help appreciated!!!

Here's what I have done in the past.
In iDVD, use the "Save as Disk Image" (under File menu)
Then drag that disk image to Disk Utility (in your Applications folder under the "Utilities" folder)
Select that disk image, then click Burn up in the top left of the window. It will prompt you for a disk, insert disk, then it will prompt you for your burn speed. Select the slowest burn speed.
You should be in business.
Other things to keep in mind are labels can be murder. I know that but I still use them - I just can't send a presentation out without one - so I use the ultra thin labels you can get from Target - they are High Gloss DVD/CD labels from Neato. They seem to have fewer problems. Also make sure you buy good -R's. Maxell gets the highest rating, there are even websites dedicated to helping people track down the best current manufacturer, as sometimes labels (like Sony, Maxel, Fuji etc..) will change manufacturers and lose their quality.

Hope this helps!

  • Image in indesign file not showing in pdf export - help!

    Hi there -
Exporting my indesign file to a pdf has been fine up til now - all the images and text are showing up fine except for one. The image is one that I edited in Photoshop (CS4) - it's a drop shadow layer. I then placed it in Indesign and fiddled with its opacity. And then I exported. Literally, everything else in this rather substantial file is fine. I increased the opacity of the image to 100% and it did actually show up in the pdf, as it appeared on indesign. Then I tried decreasing the opacity by a minimal amount (to 85% - I'm aiming for around 45%) and it disappeared again. Not sure how to fix this. Thanks for any help
    (in Indesign)    (in the pdf)

Just so you know that Steve isn’t blowing smoke, this is a well known problem with Preview. It works just fine for PDFs out of Word and the like but is simply not up to the task of handling advanced features.

  • Failed Export - HELP!

Source File is a 1280 x 996 (29.97, square pixels) wmv file created through Go To Webinar, which I then edited in Premiere Pro CS3 (on a Dell laptop).
    Project is 720 x 480,"Fit", 29.97, square pixels.
Original audio was poor quality and contained re-takes, so I used "render and replace" to edit audio in SoundBooth (CS3).
Edit divides the source file into two parts. Part one of the edit is about 40 minutes, Part 2 is roughly 20 minutes.
Edit is pretty basic, some crossfades, a handful of extra images, etc.
I have been able to render the project within Premiere. However, for some reason, I cannot seem to get it to export the project without crashing.
It gets about 60% through, then crashes. I've attempted to fix the frames where the crash occurs, but it seems to be inconsistent. I fix one, and then it crashes at another frame the next time.
Export settings are 720 x 480, fit, 29.97, square pixels, Video - "constant", 2 passes, Image Quality max, Maximum bitrate 256 (though I have tried higher as well, and that also crashed). Audio - "constant", 2 passes, 48 stereo CBR.
I have tried exporting a variety of ways, including Export - Movie - Quicktime.
Desired file format is wmv or other You-Tube compatible format.
    Thoughts??
    Need solution ASAP.

    HI,
Boy, that must be a pretty big file ...60 minute film
    You said....

What do you do to fix the frame ???
There is a program called GSPOT...free....that can tell you more about the video and audio file you are working with.... And maybe it would help to know to use that program and tell people here more about the file you are working with in Premiere....It sounds like you already tried a few things to export the file, so I doubt just guessing about those settings will be much help to you.  Maybe GSPOT can give more information about the file.
And ...I'm just curious....you do have a big enough hard drive to handle a large exported file on your laptop ??

  • Urgent export help needed

Extremely urgent help needed! I'm on a tight deadline. I'm working on a sequence, with all my settings set to DV. My client needs an AVI file as an output. After exporting using conversion, the file looks and plays fine, except for any transitions. At the start of each transition, there is 1 frame that is unrendered. I have rendered the entire sequence, and tried the export many times now, and I can't figure out what's wrong. I'm working on v5.1.4. Can someone please help?????

Thank you, kind sir! < </div>
Careful who you're callin' names around here, buddy!
Thank you for the kind words, that's why we're here. Hrdly anyone ever closes their threads on a positive note, I thank you for that, too.
Good luck with your future projects and those squeaky deadlines.

  • FCP to DVD Studio Pro exporting help needed - desperatey......

    Hi.
Please help me if you can.
I am exporting a Quicktime movie from FCP for DVD Studio Pro 4. I chose the MPEG 4 option in the compression, make it best quality and bounce it. But when I look at the self-contained mov file, every time a person walks across the screen I am getting little lines on the light parts of the screen or a beating or sizzling effect in the dark parts. Basically it looks like everything is "alive" somewhat - objects like curtains seem to sizzle.
Can someone guide me in the proper choices to make when exporting from FCP to import into DVD Studio Pro? There is not an MPEG-2 or M2V option, and the MPEG compression breaks it down to MPEG-2 or M2v upon import into DVD Studio Pro anyway.
I guess I don't know how to get the best quality bounce from FCP, in order to have a file that is less that 4G in size. Can someone please advise?
There are no directions on exporting FOR DVD Studio Pro in the Final Cut books, nor was there a FCP prep covered in the DVD SP books.

Quick workflow from FCP -> DVDSP:
In FCP, File Export QuickTime Movie
Select DVD Studio Pro Markers in the Markers drop-down (leave other settings as is)
Save QT Movie to your preferred location
In DVDSP, import your newly-created QT Movie
(You may want to confirm your encoding settings - both in terms of bit rate and whether
you're encoding on build or have background coding enabled - prior to this step though)
    Best Quality workflow:
In FCP, trash the render files for your sequence
From the Menu, File Export Using Compressor
Now, in Compressor, select the appropriate preset(s): DVD: Best Quality 90 Minutes - 4:3
Optional: Delete the AIFF setting completely
    Select the appropriate destination(s)
Optional: For the Dolby preset, alter Dialog Normalization (under the Audio tab of the Inspector) to -31. In the Preprocessing tab, alter the Compression Preset to None
    Click Submit
Once the encode is done, import the .m2v and .ac3 (and/or .aiff) files into DVDSP
It's only fair to tell you that since this produces (pretty much) the best possible quality from Compressor, it may take as much as 5x-10x as long as the 'quick workflow' detailed earlier. (Especially if you've set DVDSP to do a one-pass encode)

  • Export help needed

    Hi
I want to export a short film Ive made so it can be viewed on a pc and Quicktime doesn't seem to work. I have only very basic understanding of File formats so I may not have saved the files correctly.
I have FCP studio and the film was shot in HDV, 16:9. Plays great on FCP. I exported as a quicktime file as HDV and as SD. The files Ive made play on the mac but not a pc and don't play widescreen on either i.e. picture appears squashed.
Ultimatly id like to be able burn dvd's from the file.
    Any help greatly apreciated.
    Thanks
    Thomas

If you want to burn a DVD, then choose: file/export/Using Compressor. Select a preset for DVD's there (using a 16:9 setting). Then burn the resulting files with DVD SP to a disk. No need to go through another conversion. In DVD SP, select the track of video in the outline after you've added it to a button, and enable all the User operations in the tab that's seen in the User operations tab. The resulting DVD will play on a PC, a Mac or a DVD player.
Select 16:9 letterbox in the General Tab of that same stream. It will then fill a 16:9 screen or letterbox on a 4:3 set.

  • URGENT !!! Export help

I'm using Enterprise manager to export a table. It wnat a node preferred credential! I have tried all the user ids(sys, system, databse id)and nothing works. What is it looking for and where do I find it.
    I am desperate.....

I've never used enterprise manager but I went to the url http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/oem/pdf/oemer.pdf which is the OEM error manual and if you search on "node preferred credential" it talks about selecting the preferences option from the system menu and then use the preferred credentials tab of the preferences dialog. I may be miles from the answer, but this seems to indicate that this has to be setup before other things such as export can be performed. Let me know if this helps.

  • Exporting Help in Lightroom 2.7

I am trying to export a file from Lightroom.  I don't see any mark on the file that I just exported that file.  Is there any way to do/see that?  If i don't end up working on all of my images at one time & then close down lightroom, when I open it up again, i have no idea which images i worked on already.
    Can anyone help please?

In the bottom right corner of images you will see a series of icons, depending on what changes you have made. If you have made changes in develop, if the file has been cropped etc.Your most recent export is automatically added to a collection that is shown in the top panel "catalog" of the library mode.
In LR you can mark your images with various ratings, colours, flags dependent on your needs as well as adding key words etc. You can also use smart collections to search for files by any metadata field you wish. There really are so many ways to search for and organise your files it is not worth trying to explain them all here. If you click on on line help there are lots of tutorials that will explain how LR works and give you some ideas about how you want to use LR to organise your files.

  • Reports + export help

Ok It's been 2 days now and I'm forced to ask for help. It's such a tiny detail but it's making me crazy. My boss is going to kill me.
This particular report exports to excel, and when a frame doesn't fit the current page, it moves the complete frame and all it's content to the next page. This is OK, it's a reports feature and it works perfectly.
This problem is when exporting to excel and tries to export the non-fitting-in-the-first-page frame, I get the rows that didn't fit in the first page AND the rows that finally make to the NEXT page. So I'm getting duplicate rows.
At the moment I'm trying separate repeating columns with srw.get_page_num(<global var in pkg>), but I fail.
excel output: (the report output works fine)

  • Slideshow export = help!

Help. I need to have a slideshow completed by Mon. I have it perfect in my iPhoto, but when I export it to quicktime (need to burn it to show on a tv) the music and photos are no longer in sync. They are not off by much, (maybe a second or 2) but enough so the words don't match the photo. Any help would be great. I have been putting it in iMovie (I have other photos with transistions there) so I can then export all of the project to iDVD to burn. I have been working on this for days and am ready to scream!

    Paulette:
The syncing issue has been a problem with iPhoto 6. If you do not have to have the Ken Burns effect you'll get a much sharper image quality slideshow if you create the slideshow in iDVD.
One way to get the music synced correctly is to not put music in the slideshow and export to Quicktime. Once the export is done import that file into iMovie and add the music. You can have much more precise control of the placement, fade in or out, etc. Then save the iMovie project and send it to iDVD via the Share menu.
Once the iDVD project's menu and look is polished up, you can do a File->Save as Disk Image. Once that's completed open the disk image and play with DVD Player to make sure all is well and synced. Then burn with Disk Utility. Burn at the slowest speed offered for maximum compatibility with DVD players. A slower burn is a better burn.
As I said at the beginning, doing it all in iDVD will give you a much sharper image quality in the final produce, IMO. It will also be faster if you're in a time constraint.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Canon 7D Editing export help?

I'm always trying to find better ways to make my DSLR shooting better. I always shoot 1080p at 24 but I've always seemed to think my footage at the end comes out...Standard Definition. Is there any help you guys can give me on when I'm exporting my films? Should I just use "Sequence Settings" and just let it automatically find a good quality? Or should I use the Codec way of keeping the quality high? I need it exported for both DVD and Vimeo use. Thanks!

  • Illustrator Export Help!

    Hey all,
This is probably a stupid question but I'm in Illustrator and I'm trying to export a project to .jpg, but when I do, I have images sticking out of the artboard borders. there's a huge white border around my artboard. How do I crop the final image, or export so only the items on the artboard are seen?
    Any help would be great!

You need a script to clip to artboard.
This is only a code segment, need to be tested its a start.. the last line has the
"export current document to file export_File_Path as JPEG with options {class:JPEG export options, quality:80, horizontal scaling:700, vertical scaling:700, matte:false, artboard clipping:true}"
