Export ical as .txt

I have a sidekick ID and a macbook with ical. I need to generate a .txt file based on my ical calendar in order to import it into my calendar on my sidekick. Would anbody happen to know how to export ical calendars as a .txt file? And if not, any alternative to getting m calendar on my sidekick

Many problems with the 'Export to Text' (.txt) in CR Xi

Hi,
I have listed many problems with the 'Export to Text' (.txt) function of CR Xi.
These problems are related to this export format only (meaning everything works fine in the Viewer or in the 'Export to PDF')...
- Multi-columns layout do not export as Multi-column (export only a one column);
- Numeric values with parenthesis for negative values or with a fix currency sign at the leftmost position are not exported correctly;
- Fields having a Suppress formula which is "WhilePrintingRecords" do not appears when exported;
- Fields with 'Suppress double value' checked are not always suppressed when exported to Text.
- 'Keep Group Together' flag is not working.
- 'Reset Page Number After' simply does not works when exported to text;
- 'Keep object together' on TextBox/Section is not working.
- Whenever a group is ending on the last line of a page, the the following page as the same Group header as the previous group with no records until the page is filled, then the PageBreak and PageHeader is missing but the records of the following group appears.
I would like to know what is the status of the 'Export to Text' function (is it a deprecated function not supported anymore???).
If still supported, when will these bugs be fixed???

Export to Text is supported till date. Crystal Reports 2008 also supports this with Keep together working however when I tried with format with multiple columns, it didnot show up in the exported text file.

You can't directly, as scheduled jobs can only export to server-side data stores, which can only write to the landing area. You'll need to use an external script (e.g. batch file) to move the file from the landingarea after export. You can use an external task in the scheduled job to invoke the script.

Can I export iCal to a Word processing document like Word or Appleworks or Pages? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'd be interested in this - so far I have thought of using grabber & cutting & pasting from .Mac, but neither are satisfactory really.

Can't Export iCal Archive to iDisk

Why can't I export an iCal Archive to iDisk?
Please try this:
iCal > File > Export > iCal Archive and select iDisk as a destination.
Such an export attempt just hangs for me in Snow Leopard and Lion.
The same type of export works with Address Book:
Address Book > File > Export > Address Book Archive then select iDisk as a target. This works.
Can anyone please explain why this doesn't work for iCal?

Well, since I use Earthlink through Time Warner, I am running on similar circuits. Do not have another option. That may be part of the problem.
Apple's interface is another. I consider it to be uninformative. The window appearing causes it to seem that the file transfer took place quickly however if you look more closely and think about it, the transfer rate for the display is too great to be true.
Oh, I wish I had a T-1 line but....
Part of the problem may be that my internet connection is through Airport. An Airport network is not that fast.
After a long period of frustration in transferring files between my computer and that of my wife using Airport, I decided to heck with it and connected us and our printer through an ethernet Gigabit LAN. The speed is great!!
One of these days I will get around to drilling holes in the wall to run the cables through closets, etc., rather than along the hall.

I want to export iCal to Google Calendar on a PC

I've searched a bunch of forums but none of the instructions match. They all say click on the calendar you want to export, then click file, export etc etc
The problem is that on a PC, there are no file/export options. All I have are calendars on the left and I can click a button the "share" the calendar.
So anyone know how to export iCal to Google calendar on a PC? Thanks.

Found it. FYI, you have to "share" the calendar you want to back up or export. Copy and paste the URL given into your browser, but do NOT hit enter. Change the "webcal" at the beginning to "http" then hit enter. It's automatically downloaded to your default location. Then you can import the ICS file directly into Google calendar.

Exporting iCal to MacBook Pro

I have an iMac at home and a MacBook Pro that we use while traveling. When I try to export my calendar data from the iMac to the macBook Pro I get duplicate entries for items that had already been in that calendar. I have tried to restore a backed up file but it won't seem to do that on the other computer. Is Mobile me my only option?

You could try synchronizing each through a third party, such as either a smart phone or a web site, such as Google Calendar...although I'm not sure if there's a problem synchronizing the device or web page with more than one calendar or not.
Or, if you only use iCal on the MBP for traveling, you could abandon iCal and just use Google Calendar synchronized with your iMac and use the web based calendar.

Excel export defaults to ".txt"

I have a question regarding the "Excel" export button on SAP B1.
Whrn i try to export data clicking the excel button, the window "Save As" defaults to ".txt" extension.... is there a place to change the default to make it ".xls" instead???

Hi Gordon,
I had B1 on a pc that anytime that i clicked on the excel button and save it, the document would open in excel right away.
Now i have a laptop with XP Pro (same configuration as the pc) and everytime i click on save, saves the document and it doesn't open right away.... i have to basically import the txt file into excel....
The funny thing is that it was opening the file in excel and it was formatted correctly.
Any Ideas?

Exporting ical to other PC forums

I wish to export my Ical fixtures list to all members of our club. Unfortunately they don't all use Mac so I need to find a way to use it in all forums. PC Microsoft etc also Phones (Not all users have a mac account) Is there an easy way to do this?

It's pretty easy as you can just access fields from the iCal database.
If you play with the following, you'll see what I mean. It allows you to pull the data from a given calendar. You can then repurpose that data.

Is there a way of copying or exporting an ical calender month so I can print it in a Pages document?

I don't know "Pages" but if it is like MS Word ...
In iCal, go to File/Print and work through the dialogue to get the layout you want. Click continue, which will bring up the printer dialog, and click PDF to save the "print" as a PDF file. This can be dragged into a Word document.

According to Microsoft's website, Outlook will import .ics files: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/file-types-you-can-import-or-expo rt-HP005243412.aspx
To export your calendars from iCal as .ics, highlight each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time and then go to File > Export > Export. Save the resulting .ics file to a logical location like the desktop and then email the files to your husband.

Anyone know how to export diary events from iCal into Numbers or Excel?
I have a calendar for each of my clients and I would like to export a number of these into a spreadsheet. I then want to create a document as an attachment to a report. Just basic stuff like:
Event Title
Dates [start and end]
Time [start and end]
Location
Notes
I came across a script called iCalToExcel but it does not seem to work with Leopard...

This was released shortly after my post. It integrates with iCal to the extent that you can search for appointments using various criteria (like the name of the calendar) then export the records found into Numbers which is just what I want.
