Hello,
I just updated to the latest version of itunes which than asked me to update my iphone. I did. I got an error message...which asked me to "restore" me iphone, that seem easy enough.
My computer contained very detailed Calendar information. This was completely erased! My iphone, which had no iCal information, now has all of it, this is good. But, what about me Computer? I tried resync but, the ICAL information still does not appear in my Computer.

Try resetting your sync history. Launch Applications > iSync, select iSync menu > Preferences, wait a few seconds for the Reset Sync History button to change from grayed out to active, then click it. Then create a new entry in iCal (make something up), just to be safe. Then try syncing again. If prompted to Merge or Replace, choose Merge.

What I am ultimately wanting to do is make more room on my computer by backing up all of my files onto the external hard drive and then deleting them off of my computer. However, neededing to be able to retrieve them from the external hard drive later down the road.
From what I have read and am trying to understand, is that I probably shouldn't have used time machine. I need to use the external hard drive like a basic flash drive where I can put things on and get things off without having it automatically update through time machine everytime I connect it to my computer.
Not tech savvy at all and barely understand basics. I need very simple and easy to understand explanations.

The number of people who have experienced terror by having a single external HD backup is enormous. One failure that WILL HAPPEN, and kaput,......all gone!

Deleting them off your computer is fine....having only ONE copy is extremely BAD.

If you let a $60 additional redundant hard drive and 3 hours of copying stand between you and years of work, then you've made a fundamental mistake countless 1000s of people each year have come to regret.

If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise*, boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, type this:
res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.

You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.

That's how it is supposed to work. The library on your Shuffle is set to mirror your iTunes library on your PC or Mac. So if you add some music and configure to sync to the Shuffle, removing it from iTunes, would also remove it from your Shuffle.
The only way to avoid this is to set up the Shuffle for manual management. See the appropriate section in this Apple support document on how to manually manage your iPod's contents.

AFAIK, you can't author a DVD using iMovie - again, AFAIK, you need authoring software such as iDVD or Toast Titanium or something similar.

jamiesfromportland, greetings: I do not take issue with your very valid reasons for purchasing RAM from Apple. However by recommending not to purchase RAM from third party vendors I would suggest is unfounded advice. Most of the problems that occur with third party RAM are attributable to the lack of adherence to the required specifications, viz. this post.
I would be willing to wager that purchasing RAM from reputable vendors such as OWC or Crucial one would find similar fail/success ratios as those purchased from Apple. In both cases this assumes that the specifications are adhered to.
I have always purchased RAM upgrades from third party vendors with no performance issues. True that I do so to save money but I do not skimp on quality.

Email Button: Can you import information back into a form?

I created a form using Live Cycle and included both a print button and an email button. Is there a way to populate the fields back into the form after the form has been filled out and emailed back? If so, how can I go about extracting the information from the email into the form, so I can print it out and file it for my records?

Export iCal diary events into Numbers or Excel

Anyone know how to export diary events from iCal into Numbers or Excel?
I have a calendar for each of my clients and I would like to export a number of these into a spreadsheet. I then want to create a document as an attachment to a report. Just basic stuff like:
Event Title
Dates [start and end]
Time [start and end]
Location
Notes
I came across a script called iCalToExcel but it does not seem to work with Leopard...

This was released shortly after my post. It integrates with iCal to the extent that you can search for appointments using various criteria (like the name of the calendar) then export the records found into Numbers which is just what I want.

Your Mac encrypts your password as it is entered. It is never stored "in the clear". It cannot tell you what it is, or even how many characters are in it. All it can tell is, when you enter it again and it encrypts it again, "was that it?"
So you will need to Reset your password, which changes it permanently, deleting the old one.

There are photos in the AppleTV 1 HDD, how do I get them back into iTunes/computer?

I have a first gen Apple TV. there are photos on the internal HDD and after a computer crash, the only copies I have. I know.... Is there a way to access the photos on the Apple TV? In iTunes, the Apple TV/Photo tab only shows Sync with PhotoShop Elements and 5 photos. I know there are hundreds that come up in the slideshow on the Apple TV.
Any direction/ideas are greatly appreciated!

You should be fine. How are you, exactly, trying to pair both devices?
If the pairing code (3 lines with 4 characters each) doesn't work for any reason (you should get the code from the computer and add it to your tablet) you can get the Recovery key from your tablet and use it to connect the computer to that account.
In order to get the Recovery Key, you need this add-on in your mobile device: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/mobile/addon/aboutsynckey/
