Export/Import of keywords between Elements and Lightroom

I am wish to import the Pictures I have in my Element 11 catalogs into the Lightroom 5  catalogs. I have applied keywords/tagging to my Pictures in Elements and wish to import the same keywords/tags to the Pictures after they have been imported to Lightroom.
Is this possible? I the help files for Lightroom I find the following guidance:"To import keywords into the catalog, choose Metadata > Import Keywords, navigate to and select the text file or catalog file containing keywords" However I am not able to locate the text/cataloge file for Elements containing this info.
I would very much appreciate any help on this as I have several thousend Pictures which I wish to transfer.

  • I'm trying to understand the difference between Photoshop Elements and Lightroom software.

Does one have things the other does not?

    Hi,
Lightroom is to manage photos and produce derivative images without ever modifying an original file. Its processing functionality has a narrow feature-set covering the most common needs of professional photographers whereas Elements is a simpler yet powerful photo manipulation tool. Elements is designed to satisfy the needs of photo enthusiasts who like to manipulate images.
You can also go through the thread to understand the basic difference between PSE and Lightroom.
    Check if this helps.
    Thanks,

  • Sharing keywords between LR and PSE 9 Organiser? :-(

OK, I've owned 3 photo products from Adobe (Photoshop Album, Lightroom and Photoshop Essentials) and have 3 keyword file formats! I use LR as my main photo organiser and have started using PSE and its Organiser but am frustrated by the lack of coherent design of keyword files. I have hundreds of keywords in LR. I had to write some Python code to convert my "Album" keywords to the LR format and it seems I have to do the same to get keywords from LR into PSE's organiser. But there's now a new problem...
Unfortunately when I import keywords into PSE's Organiser any duplication of existing keywords results in duplication in the keyword list - i.e. when I add "From file.." PSE adds to the list rather than merging! PSE is clearly not designed to re-load keywords from file any extend the keywords. If I export all my keywords and re-import them I don't expect the number of keywords to double! Oh - I can;t delete keywords before importing because I'm told everything it's 'learned' (people etc. will be lost).  Keywords appear to be exportable but not importable.
I clearly cannot import keywords into PSE's organiser as I can with LR.
Is anyone sharing keywords between LR and PSE's Organiser?

Thanks, I can see how that can work and the problems. It looks like the keywords themselves cannot be easily shared and I agree that having two organising programs is problematic but I wanted to 'export' the keywords I have created including their structure from Lightroom and import them into PSE organiser. You'd think you could do this with two similar products from the same company. The organisers in question are used for two purposes and the photos in each are different - i.e. I use lightroom for my pro stuff and PSE for family/casual stuff and no photo would be present in both. It looks like PSE really isn't designed to import keywords. I have Python code to create a PSE keyword file from a lightroom file so that will have to do as it's clear there's no interoperability.
    Thanks for your suggestions.

  • I replaced PC with MACbook, can I download my Elements and Lightroom or do I need to repurchase?

I replaced my PC which is broken and no longer usable with a new Macbook Pro.  I would like to download my Elements and Lightroom in the Mac OS version.  Can I do this or do I need to repurchase.  I just bought the Elements in August 2014 and the Lightroom in 2013.
    Thanks so much

you do not need to re-purchase.  both those are cross-platform products so you just download the mac installation files and use your mac serial numbers to install on your mac.

  • Export-import task sequences between UAT-PROD environments

    Hi,
What 's your idea of exporting-importing task sequences between UAT-PRD SCCM 2012 servers
It would save me quite some time but I guess the files and folders, applications (if I would export them too) are kept somewhere in a general folder so that's not so neat ....
    J.
    Jan Hoedt

    Hi,
You can export it without Content and the copy the content manually. If you have exactly the sam ename and disk layout on prod and uat there will be no editing required. Otherwise you need to change the package source for all packages referenced, this can
    of coourse be scripted.
If you export it with the content the content will end upp in a structure based on the uniqie idea of the content.
Using a shared package source could be one solution as well.

  • When is Adobe going to support 64bit, I7 CPU's in Elements and Lightroom?

I have an I7, 64bit computer almost exclusively for multitasking photoshop exercises.  It appears that both elements and Lightroom only use one of the eight cores.  this is very inefficient for me.  Any clues as to when support for these high end computers will be forthcoming?

Hmm, when I use File > Process Multiple Files to convert a dozen raw files to PSDs, resizing them as well, I see both CPUs on my machine being used:
In general, I think that the full Photoshop does use multiple CPUs for compute-intensive tasks, and the PSE Editor, a stripped-down version of full Potoshop, also uses multiple CPUs.  How well it does that, I don't know.

Stephylei you will want to download the Mac versions of the installation files.  If you purchased the software from Adobe, and choose the download option at the time of purchase, then the download will be available under your account.  You can find more details at Find a download link on Adobe.com.

  • Elements and Lightroom installed in Mac Mini. Do I need to buy separate products for my MacBook?

I have purchased Photoshop Elements and Lightroom and installed them in my table Mac. Now I'm going on travelling and would need them with me also in my laptop (MacBook Pro). Is there any chance to update my current purchases so that I could use the programs also in my laptop, or do I have to buy separate products for this? Could not find an easy way to do this. Thanks!

I don't know about Lightroom, but PSE allows you to have activated installations on two computers, so you're good there. Just install it on the laptop.

  • Importing strategies between iPhoto and Lightroom 5

During the installation process, Lightroom imported the 5,000 or so photos from my iPhoto library into Lightroom's Ircat catalog. Going forward, I'm planned to organize my photos much better with key words, metadata, etc. Also, I just bought a new camera and plan to take both RAW and JPEGs. So does it make sense to create a second catalog for those images from iPhoto, or somehow, segregate them creating two folders within only one catalog? In addition to understanding the best strategy, I need to know how to do this. Finally, although I use Time Capsule to safely back up my computers, I wanted to get some advice regarding to pros & cons for using an external hard drive to store my images when using Lightroom 5 (i.e., does it make sense using a another drive with a library of 5,000-10,000 images, etc.)?? Cheers

If disk space is the primary you could buy an awful lot of external HD space for the price of Lightroom and run your iPhoto Library from an external disk.
    Are you shooting Raw?
For my money - and I realise that it's not - you only get half the value of apps like Aperture and Lightroom (and Aperture is about $100 cheaper btw) if you're shooting jpeg. These apps are designed to make life easier for Raw shooters, and act as large scale digital asset managers. While these apps will still work on jpegs of course, it's a bit like using a Humvee for the school run. It'll do it, but there are more effective uses for a Humvee
IPhoto, Lightroom and Aperture are all designed as Digital Asset Managers - They all work to preserve your original file. While the last two work somewhat differently than iPhoto neither represents a significant space saving in practice.
If you must overwrite your files, then don't use a DAM application. Just use a photo editor like Photoshop or Graphic Coverter. The latter is great value and has some photo management built in, too.

  • Elements and Lightroom - working together

Since I shoot virtually all my images in RAW format I've been playing with Lightroom as I find Elements RAW processing a little cumbersome.
I've worked out a process that suits me although it could still do with some refining, so I thought I'd share what I'm doing with you and if you are doing something similar maybe you can share your experiences.
I think Lightroom is an excellent Post Processor for RAW, JPEGs and PSDs. Its not a full Editor but that doesn't concern me as I can call upon Photoshop to do this if needed. What it does lack in my opinion is as good an Organiser as Elements.
For RAW images already in Elements Organiser...
    1. Locate folder and Import into the Lightroom Library but with the images managed in the existing folder.
    2. Process the images and choose to have the XMP files stored with the image.
    3. Assign the exact same Keyword as the Organiser Tag(s)
    4. Export the processed images in PSD format back to the original folder
    5. Since this is an Organiser watched folder it picks up the new PSD files and puts them against the right Tag(s).
    6. Remove the RAW orignals from the Organiser ( note: not deleted from hard drive)
    For new RAW images.....
    1. Download into a specific Lightroom folder that is not watched by the Elements Organser
    2. Process the images and choose to have the XMP files stored with the image.
    3. Assign Keywords that will be used as the Tag(s) in the Organiser
    4. Export to an Organiser watched folder.
    5. Organiser picks up the new images and imports the keywords as Tags.
    6. Re-position the Imported Tags as appropriate.
This way I don't clutter the Organiser with all the RAW images. It doesn't create version sets of RAW + Processed but hopefully in the final release of Lightroom, Version sets may be available.
    That's the story so far
    Colin

Sorry if you already know this and it just didn't work for you.  To add elements (which plays well with my LR) go to the edit tab, open preferences and click on external editing.  There you will see a section for "additional external editor."  Set up PSE and save it as a preset..... should open just fine.  Also regarding the help, my LR help always shows PSE as well.  However, there is a little section next to PSE which I can click on to get other alternatives.....unfortunately, I don't get LR4, just help from LR3....but usually close enough.

  • Export/Import file ratings between computers

I've tried to find a way to export and import file ratings between my laptop and my desktop. I have the photos stored on both machines. I take my laptop to the client and rate the photos. How do I copy just the ratings without having to copy the entire directory?
I have Bridge CS4 on a Windows XP machine.
I've tried copying the xmp files. I've tried exporting the cache. But neither of these give me rathings on my desktop.
Anyone know how to do this?
    Thanks

It depends on your type of files. For DNG, PSD, JPEG, TIFF and others, the rating is stored in the image file itself (like other EXIF, IPTC or XMP metadata).
For most RAW formats, it may be stored in the XMP sidecar files. Have a look at your images with a tool like ExifToolGUI and look for the XMP field called "Rating". It's either in the image file or in the sidecar file. If it's in the image file, I'm afraid you'll have to either copy the images or find a way to export the ratings to a seperate (text-)file and re-apply from there, but I don't know how to do that.

  • Export/Import integrator metadata between instances

    Hi all
We have hit recently a situation with some customers who would like to migrate integrator related metadata from one instance to another (integrator, components, mappings, layout, parameter list).
They are doing this using FNDLOAD. For example
    Download phase on the source.
    FNDLOAD apps/apps 0 Y DOWNLOAD $BNE_TOP/patch/115/import/bneint.lct XXCOHR_Integrators.ldt BNE_INTEGRATORS INTEGRATOR_ASN="XXCOHR" FNDLOAD apps/apps 0 Y DOWNLOAD $BNE_TOP/patch/115/import/bnemap.lct XXCOHR_mapping.ldt BNE_MAPPINGS MAPPING_ASN="XXCOHR" FNDLOAD apps/apps 0 Y DOWNLOAD $BNE_TOP/patch/115/import/bnelay.lct XXCOHR_Layouts.ldt BNE_LAYOUTS LAYOUT_ASN="XXCOHR" FNDLOAD apps/apps 0 Y DOWNLOAD $BNE_TOP/patch/115/import/bnecont.lct XXCOHR_bnecont.ldt BNE_CONTENTS CONTENT_ASN="XXCOHR"
    Upload phase on the target.
    FNDLOAD apps/apps 0 Y UPLOAD $BNE_TOP/patch/115/import/bneint.lct XXCOHR_Integrators.ldt FNDLOAD apps/apps 0 Y UPLOAD $BNE_TOP/patch/115/import/bnelay.lct XXCOHR_Layouts.ldt FNDLOAD apps/apps 0 Y UPLOAD $BNE_TOP/patch/115/import/bnemap.lct XXCOHR_mapping.ldt FNDLOAD apps/apps 0 Y UPLOAD $BNE_TOP/patch/115/import/bnecont.lct XXCOHR_bnecont.ldt
The problem is that after trying to create a document using the new BNE elements they are getting various errors.
No parameter list definition at parameter list idor No Mappings exist for the specified Content.
I have had a look at some patch delivering integrators via the same LCT files , and the unified driver has for example the following sequence which is executed during the patch
    exec fnd bin FNDLOAD bin &phase=last+1 checkfile:pay:patch/115/import/D:pyinfcmp.ldt &ui_apps 0 Y UPLOAD @BNE:admin/import/bnecomp.lct @PAY:patch/115/import/D/pyinfcmp.ldt - UPLOAD_MODE=NLS WARNINGS=TRUE

I couldn' find anywhere this process being documented in an official document or Note. These customers have used some external non-oracle references fordoing so.
Is there anywhere a document giving more information on how this export/import is supposed to work?
Please reply to me directly as I am not part of this mailing list.
    Thank you and best regards,
    Dan

Looks like you have not transferred your parameter list. Please use following code to download and upload your parameter list.
    Download
    FNDLOAD apps/$FNDPWD 0 Y DOWNLOAD $ BNE_TOP / admin / import / bneparamlist.lct GENERAL_201.ldt BNE_PARAM_LISTS INTEGRATOR_ASN = "HX" INTEGRATOR_CODE = "GENERAL_201_INTG"
    Upload
    FNDLOAD apps/$FNDPWD 0 Y UPLOAD $BNE_TOP/admin/import/bneparamlist.lct GENERAL_201.ldt
For mapping there is a possibility that you might have migrated wrong content. You need to migrate content which is none instead 'text'

  • How to break the link between photoshop and lightroom when saving a photo?

I've had an ongoing issue with saving copies of photos I import from LR to PS and back into LR. Any multiple copies I make get erased when they move back to LR. My solution has been to save a copy in an extra folder apart from Lightroom and import them in later. It's rough, but it works. But now I have a new demon.
I tweaked a photo in LR, made a copy to keep it safe, then sent the copy over to PH where I did some magic. I Saved As in that special other folder, closed the tab, got the usual box asking if I wanted to save the changes (of course I did), I went back to LR to see both the original and copy changed over to the PS version. I went back to PS, opened the .psd, unclicked the mask, clicked the checkbox, when back to LR and both the original and copy in LR had the mask removed.
    I'm missing something here.
There m u s t be a way to break the link between PS and LR so that when I save a copy of a photo I made in LR the original and copy remain two separate photos. Does anyone know how?
    Thanks,

I think I am a little confused. What you are describing seems more like a Project Server "Profile" issue, than a SharePoint to MS Project Sync.
If my guess is correct, then you just need to set the default profile to be something other than your computer.
If I am wrong, a screenshot of the error would be really helpful.

  • Feature Differences between Elements and Premiere Elements

What are the feature differences between Photoshop Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements?
Do I need both programs since it appears that Photoshop Elements is embedded into Premiere Elements?

Is the date of purchase for Photoshop Elements 12 that you had initially within 30 days of today? And, did you purchase that from Adobe online. If so, you should be able to use the link below to start your contact with Adobe via Adobe Chat regarding a money back.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?product=premiere-elements&topic=orders-refunds-and-exc hanges
After you click on the link above, click on the statement "I still need help." to bring up the Adobe Chat so that you can work out the details related to orders/refunds/exchanges.
The important matter right now is that you act promptly in sorting this matter out so that you do not lose your rights in this regard.
If your purchase was other than what is suggested above, Adobe Chat should be able to advise you of the next step with regard to the vendor from whom you did purchase the software.
What exactly do you need in a program, photo editing, video editing, or both?
    Thanks.

  • Difference between element and identity based version

Can anybody tell me the difference between elment and identity based version of the Object with any example? which classes implement them?

    Hunky322 wrote:
At first it struck me as odd, given how List, Set, and Map define equals, but the part the OP left off clears it up a bit: "..because element-based equality is not always well-defined for queues with the same elements but different ordering properties."This lineSo, you're saying you don't understand the following?

Queue implementations generally do not define element-based versions of the equals and hashCode methods but instead inherit the identity-based versions from Object because element-based equality is not always well-defined for queues with the same elements but different ordering properties.
    >
    Okay, here's the deal.
For a List, equals() is true if both Lists contain the same objects and in the same order. That's pretty straightforward, and it makes sense.
For a Set, equals() is true if both Sets contain the same objects. Order is not considered because Sets are not generally ordered. Again, this it straightforward.
So, you might think that Queue might define equals in a similar fashion--either if both Queues contain all the same elements, or if they contain all the same elements in the same order. However, this doesn't really work very well. Since ordering is an important part of a Queue, the ordering should be considered for equality. However, unlike Lists, two different Queues containing the same objects might define ordering differently. One might be a FIFO and the other might be a PriorityQueue, so how do you compare those two queues for equality?
There are no clear-cut rules for equality between two arbitrary Queues, so the Queue interface does not define an equals method that's related to the contents of the Queues.
