Export/Import Project still buggy in v2.1.3

After seeing the update notes for v2.1.3 and noticing references to project importing, I started to get excited that maybe the bugs have been ironed out. Unfortunately my longstanding bug still remains.
If anyone can think of any workarounds I'd be extremely grateful...
I have a 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro with 2GB RAM, running OS X 10.5.6 and now Aperture 2.1.3
I have a project with many images, arranged into stacks, a pick in each stack with many adjustment and a 62-page book created from these picks. There are also some smart albums and a light-table.
Now I export the project (i.e. in the Project Inspector I right-click the project and choose Export > Project) to a file on the desktop and rename the existing project in Aperture. I now import the saved .approject file and I find that all my Picks are no longer Picks and my book is therefore no longer made up of my desired images. (I've tried this many times now and ruled out the possibility of a corrupt export file).
As a result, when I select the Book I get the "Non-Pick Images" dialog with the dreaded "One or more placed items are no longer the pick of a stack." message. "Use Current Pick" ruins the book - I have to go through and work out all the picks again (and also re-pan all the images within the Photo Boxes as this data has also been lost). "Create new Version" appears to preserve my book's original look, but my project now contains a couple of hundred more images than it used to and my other albums and light-table still have incorrect images shown as the Picks.
Does anybody have any ideas of what I can do to ensure the stack-picks are preserved during the export/import process?
(By the way, the reason I'm exporting and then re-importing is because I actually want to do the export from my laptop where the project is and then the import on my main work machine where the rest of my Aperture library lives, but that fails for the same reason, so I'm doing the export+import on my laptop for now to reduce the number of variables in the problem.)

I go with the assumption that you now know how to create transport sets. After having created a transport set containing the objects you want to be exported, go to the administer tab under the main page of portal. There you will find the Export/Import portlet. Here you need to choose your transport set from the first LOV and then click EDIT to choose the "Security Option". Now you export out the stuff. This will export all the user page customizations for you.
Thanks.

  • Exporting/Importing projects without Aperture?

Rather than wait for Aperture to export a project, why not just use finder to copy it?
    I am doing that now.
I right clicked on my Aperture library, Show package contents, and browsed to a location of a folder of projects(14 GB worth)
Dragged that to a Lacie FW800 external disk.
Unplugged it from the G5 DP 2 Ghz, plugged it into the MBP, fired up Aperture, created a top level folder, selected the folder and then chose "Import Projects".
Browsed to the external drive, into the folder, selected all 9 projects and let it rip...
Next test will be to merely copy a project into the library.

    Thanks for the info!
A green star for your efforts!
I am about to hit the road on our summer family vacation, but still have a bunch of projects I still need to triple-C ... cull, crop, correct and since I have proven the MBP is very capable, I decided to spend the 10 hours of drive time productive! So while my wife is driving I will be editing away and when we arrive at our hotel I should have 3-4 projects ready to export previews and upload!
BTW, I will be testing the only power inverter that Apple recommends, the Kensington Ultra Portable Power Inverter 150 (or so the Apple store claims:It's also the only product other than an Apple power adapter that you can use to charge MacBook and MacBook Pro notebooks. Now if I could just get wireless internet access while driving....

  • Export/Import Project problems

I have two machines: a PowerMac (G5) and a MacBook Pro (Intel Dual Core). Both 2GB RAM, running OS X v10.5.6 and Aperture 2.1.2. (More tech spec info available if anyone thinks it relevant).
I have built up a project on the MacBook Pro, creating albums, creating stacks and making picks within the stacks, making adjustments to each of the picks and then creating a book.
I now want the project on the PowerMac G5, which is my master machine and contains all my other projects.
On the MacBook Pro I exported the project and then copied the resulting .approject file to the PowerMac. I then imported the project into Aperture from there. On a cursory scan, everything seems fine and in the Projects Inspector it shows 1376 images against the project on both machines. However, if I look more closely, I've lost all my picks. I.e. I need to go through every stack again and reselect my picks (very boring).
It gets worse when I look at the Book within the project - it's lost the positionings (i.e. I double clicked on the image and moved it around slightly to get the best crop for the selected box shape). And then I did a Close All Stacks and it deleted every picture from the book so all 60 pages were empty again and the images were all back down in the film strip!
At this point, my immediate thought was the .approject file got corrupted during the copy, but I've done a recursive diff (diff -qr fileA fileB) between the file on the MacBook Pro and the file on the PowerMac and it reported no differences at all.
Has anybody else had similar problems? Is the project import/export known to be flakey? Better yet, anybody know of any workarounds?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.
    Darren

OK - I've tried eliminating some of the variables and it turns out the two-machines-issue is a bit of a red herring and this is a straightforward Export/Import bug in Aperture.
On a single machine (2.16GHz Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro with 2GB RAM, running OS X 10.5.6 and Aperture 2.1.2 (build 3G13)) I have a project with many images. I create versions of these images and apply adjustments (Sharpness, Monochrome Mixer, Exposure, Enhance, etc.). I then make the adjusted version the Pick and I've created a 62 page book from these Picks.
Now I export the project (i.e. in the Project Inspector I right-click the project and choose Export > Project). I export the project to a file on the desktop and rename the existing project in Aperture. I now import the saved .approject file and I find that all my (long and carefully chosen) Picks are no longer Picks. (I've tried this a few times and ruled out the possibility of a corrupt export file).
As a result, when I select the Book I get the "Non-Pick Images" dialog with the dreaded "One or more placed items are no longer the pick of a stack." message.
I have two options at this point: "Use Current Pick" ruins the book - I have to go through and work out all the picks again (and also re-pan all the images within the Photo Boxes as this data has also been lost).
Or I can choose "Create new Version", which appears to preserve my book's original look (I haven't looked in too much detail yet), but my project now contains a couple of hundred more images than it used to (or at least extra versions which, whilst I know these are relatively 'cheap', are still unnecessary) and this still doesn't help with my other albums and light tables, which still have incorrect images shown as the Picks.
I'm finding this quite a worry - I originally hesitated to move my photo library into Aperture due to the thought of losing the metadata one day if I moved from Aperture to something else, but in the end I decided to trust that something as simple-to-test as Export/Import would get properly implemented - now I'm beginning to fear that it doesn't even within the same version of Aperture, never mind different versions of Aperture or (heaven forbid) different applications altogether

  • WIll I have duplicate problems when I Export / Import Project?

This is my first try at Exporting / Importing a Project to benefit from having Aperture on the road on a MacBook.
I run a secondary instance of Aperture on my MacBook with a managed library. I used it last week to rate, and adjust 40 images from a shoot while on the road. Those images are in Project ABC. My objective is to not lose all the adjustment work done while away now that I wish to re-locate these images to my primary instance of Aperture which runs on an iMac. I won't need them any longer on the MacBook.
I've exported Project ABC, and it's now sitting on the desktop of the iMac ready for import into Aperture where the library is also managed.
Between the shoot and today, however, I had uploaded the same images from my CF card to the iMac's Aperture library into Project XYZ. No work has been performed on any of them, but the image names are identical to those in Project ABC waiting to be imported.
My plan is to import Project ABC, and, assuming everything comes over in good shape, to delete the unadjusted masters/versions in Project XYZ one by one.
Question 1: When image GEN_1234.nef with all its adjustments, etc., contained in Project ABC, is imported, will Aperture have a problem that GEN_1234.nef (unadjusted) already is in the library in Project XYZ?
Question 2: I've checked the MacBook after exporting, and Project ABC looks as though nothing ever happened. Does this sound right? I'd expected the Masters to be gone, but "M" toggles between the master and the adjusted version.
    Thanks.
    Terry

Problem #2 is not a problem. We have been able to somewhat install Oracle when those warnings appear. The client install works fine with those warning messages in the terminal window. NOTE: They are just warnings...

  • Solution Manager -- Export Import Project

    Hi,
I want to import a project from SolMan 7.00 to SolMan 7.00 EHP1, but I can´t find an option to do it.
As I know  I have to create an Implementation Project in tx SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN and then import the implementation projects that already exists.
    Any clue?

    Hi Jorge,
In reply to your previous post you need to take the 3 files saved locally and copy them:
The K-file have to be copied into the /usr/sap/trans/cofiles directory and the R- and I-file into /usr/sap/trans/data.
The documents are in a transport request dump that you can access in the normal manner.
With regards to the structure in SOLAR01, first make sure you are in the correct project by switching the project using the icon at the top.
At the export and import stage, make sure you have ticked documents and structure so this is transported across.
Finally check your transport request has completed successfully without errors.
    Regards,
    -Rohan

I am using Iphoto 11 ver 9.4.3 on mac using oxs 10.8.5 i want to export calendar projects to an external hard drive. my goal is to store them in an external hard drive so it doesn't use up memory on the mac hard drive. is it possible to copy the specific projects without copying the entire library? what is the easiest way to do this? i have tried export and import but it didn't seem to work.

    What do you not understand?
You can duplicate the iPhoto library (command - D ) and delete everything except the project and its photos from the copy and move that
    Or
However the calendar takes very little space - it is simpy database entries - it is the photos in the calendar that take space - and for most people you would wnat to keep those photos in your library
you can use a photo in 50 calendars and it still is only one photo in your library - as I explained calenders do not exist as such - they are simply database entries telling iPhotop how to display the calendar - they take almost no space at all

  • Project duplication:  Copy/Paste vs. Export/Import

Anyone have any thoughts on project duplication?
Presently I am copying a project and then pasting it into multiple new locations then renaming them. Recently I was in a training session where the instructor suggested exporting the project and then importing it claiming database size savings. Can anyone shed any insight?
    Thanks in advance.

I can't imagine why an export/import would be a smaller footprint within the database than a project copy/paste. Not to mention that if you are talking about a relatively large project it can take a substantial amount of time to export and import. One of our schedules that is about 18k activities takes approximately 1.5 hours to export/import where as a project copy/paste only takes about 10 minutes. Note that we do not copy the baseline schedules when replicating projects.

  • Exporting and importing projects and DCs

We are not blessed with the JDI, and I am in a situation whereby I would like to take a project from one machine and import it into another.
I tried this by exporting to a ZIP file, but when I try to import it, I have to create a new project in the target system, then import the ZIP file into that. When I do that it does not seem to preserve the original structure of the project.
I noticed that there are many different formats in which the projects can be exported. Do any of these allow me to export the project and import it, preserving the internal structure of the project, ideally without creating a project in the target system first?
    Kind Regards,
    Tony.

If you are working with the same version of Developer Studio on both PCs you can just copy the whole file structure of the project from your workspace to the workspace of the other PC.
Then, in developer studio of the second PC, choose "import existing project", and browse to the root folder of the project.
This should work, but keep in mind that eventually you will face versioning problems as you will make changes on both PCs...

  • Exporting/Importing iMovie project from one iMac to another

I have an iMac in my office and need to bring an in-progress iMovie project home to work on it over the weekend. Obviously, the iMac is not portable. : ) How do I successfully export the project from my iMac at work and import it to my iMac at home? I was able to move the "event", but the project itself is blank.
    Thanks!

I'm not an "expert" but I helped someone with this before...

  • Export / Import Mapping into Different Project in same repository

    Hi,
Any one tell me, its this possible?
We have one repository ( OWB 10 R2 ) and two projects named dev_project and test_project.
We want to copy or (export /import) the mappings from dev_project to test_project, how to do this? It seems export and import can be done if the servers are different (also it is possible to recover from the back up to the same server and same project.)
    Thanks in advance
    -NB

I don't use 10gr2, but with 9.2 it is possible to do this, but you need to modify the MDL file before importing it.
** Before doing this, I'd recommend you export everything from your design repository to be safe **
Export the object(s) from DEV_PROJECT to an MDL file. Then open the MDL file in your favorite text editor and rename the project from DEV_PROJECT to TEST_PROJECT. Then import the MDL file back into the repository matching by name (NOT UOID).
I'd recommend you not do this, however. Why do you need a seperate project for test and dev? Why not create another runtime repository connection in your project so that you can deploy to both the development and test environment from the same project?

  • Problem when exporting and importing project from odi 10g to odi 11g

    Hi,
I want to migrate my project from odi 10g to odi 11g.
But when i am importing the interface then it is giving the error of mising references .
I have exported the project(without its child component),models
(including my datastore),KM's,folder (without its child component),packages(with child components),interaces(with child components),procedures(with child components),variables from odi 10g.
After exporting all these objects i imported all the objects with import type set as "Synonym mode insert" into odi 11g but when i imported the interface it is giving the error of missing references.
Source technolgy is Oracle and target technolgy is Postgres.
Topologies have been made in the ODI 11g same as in ODI 10g.
    Please help.

You dont need to migrate the complete repository. You can migrate a project at a time into ODI 11.1.1.5.x
You have to be careful while importing. You have to follow a sequence when importing.
Empty Project -> KMs -> Models (with DB Stores) -> Variable -> Empty Folders -> Interfaces -> Procedures -> Packages ---- All in SYNONYM mode insert (no exceptions)
And your repository id in 11g MUST be different from the one in 10g.

  • Solution Manager project export / import

    Hi,
is there any possibility to export the project files from Solution Manager, change some data in an other program and then import them back to solution manager? This whole import/export process should work automatically.
The entire thing is to avoid that the users have to work with the Solution Manager instead of their usual and well known programs for project management.
    Regards

    Hi Andreas,
Currently there is no possibility to perform this.

  • Export/import whole Project

    Hi,
I exported Project from one repository. Now I'd like to import it into the new repository.
I go Designer -> Projects -> Import Project
Dialog box pops up to choose file to be imported. Problem is no files are displayed within folder where the file with project physically exists.
    Any advise ?

    short manual:
    click on 'import project'.
if you want the project ID to be exactly the same as the other one, make sure the 'import type' is set to 'synonym mode INSERT'
click on the magnifying glass at 'file import directory' and locate the correct folder where the exported files are placed
    click on 'open'
your exported project should now appear in the 'import project' screen.
    select the project
    click 'ok'

  • Keeping video proportions during still image export/import

What I'm doing is exporting a still image to the Mac desktop, then dropping it into Photo-to-Movie where I create pans and zooms on it, then exporting the pan/zoom sequence as a Quicktime movie that I drop back into FCE and splice into the Timeline.
Trouble is, the image in the pan/zoom sequence always comes back into FCE distorted (elongated), I guess because the exported still image that it was made from reverts to the square pixels during the export process from FCE.
So, my question is, in what form should I export the still image from FCE so that it retains the proportions it has in the video, so that when I operate on it in Photo-to-Movie and then bring it back into FCE, it still has the proportions of a video (NTSC) image?
In other words, I need to retain the video (NTSC) image's proportions throughout the process of export, then creating pan/zooms on it in Photo-to-Movie, and then reimporting it into FCE.
To accomplish this, I presume I have to either export it from FCE in some special NTSC-video-compatible form, or else convert it in Photoshop to an NTSC-compatible image before I drop it into PTM, create the pan/zoom sequence, and then bring that sequence back into FCE.
I'd be grateful if anyone could suggest a solution to this problem.
    Tom

    Hello Tom Baker 1
My friend let me tell you something - I TOTALLY share your frustrations, and disgust with the poor results of Keyframe (within FCE).
I am not a software engineer, but my perseverance to try and try again, is far above average.
At the risk of getting on a soapbox, (and I can attest to my excellent equipment capability), please believe me, (like yourself), I've paid my dues trying to get Keyframing to work suitably with stills in FCE.
I think I can safely say, beyond all doubt, if you want to get satisfactory results in regard to pans and zooms, (without being a math major), some options for reliability and smoothness are: 'Photo to Movie' (just as you're doing), Fotomagico, http://boinx.com/fotomagico/overview/, (although I've only heard it's pretty good) - haven't tried it yet.
    OR
A recent discovery of mine: Lyric Media Pan and Zoom http://www.lyric.com/fcp-plugins/panzoompro/pzp.htm - The really nice thing about this is that it's a FC, or FCE Plug In, and utilizes FC's keyframe software engine. Why is it different than Keyframe by itself in FCE? Because (so far), what I can see is that it sort of fixes the mickey-mousery, herky-jerky nightmare of Keyframe within FCE. To me it sure looks like it can take whatever pixel size you throw at it, (and without being a math major having to apply cautionary resizing to every darn still), it just does the job. Yes it seems to do the re-sizing for you, and consequently produces smooth, reliable motion to stills.
Of course the advantage to this is that you're finally using an application (within FCE), to create your pans and stills right there. No exporting/importing of QT files as with Photo to Movie, or iMovie. And the parameters of control are more sophicated than Photo to Movie.
Again, I'm still working with it, and I still need to master it, but it sure beats keyframe.
    One side note:
I really love the crispness of an iMovie pan or zoom, but we all know by now that it's downfall are the dreaded 'JAGGIES'. As confirmed here on the forum, what seems to make Photo to Movie work so well, is the fact that by it's very nature of design, it automatically smoothes out, and probably reduces or resizes images so that they will NOT produce unwanted glistening (aliasing). And as once said here, your eye will accept this softening of an image, far better than the Jaggies, or the herky jerky.
With all that said, I hope I didn't rant on too much - as I mentioned, there's nothing like 'experience'.
    Peace
    Mike
(it would be nice to see someone comment on Lyric Media Pan Zoom Pro)
