Possible, yes. Easy, no.
I created this script a while back to do just this sort of thing: http://ottodestruct.com/blog/2006/02/03/itunes-saveratings-script/
It's pretty easy to use. Run it, hit the Save Ratings button. The ratings are copied from iTunes into a file called "ratings.xml". Copy the program and that xml file to the new machine, run the program again, and click the Restore Ratings button. All those ratings get copied into the new machine if it can find those songs on there. The song titles and artist names of the songs that have the ratings you want to transfer must be identical between the two machines for it to work though.
It also copies playcount and last played time, while it's at it.

  • Importing song ratings without auto-sync or 3rd party software

My iPod Classic contains all my Mac iTunes' library (approx 150GB), and they auto-sync, so ratings, play counts etc are sync'ed seamlessly.
I manage my iPod nano and iPhone manually since their respective capacities are too small for my library.
How do I import song ratings etc back into iTunes without 3rd party software or creating playlists (dedicated to the nano and the phone) and auto-syncing just those playlists?
    Many thanks!

Hey! By mistake I found the solution to my exact question i.e. how to have ratings etc synced automatically without the use of playlists or 3rd parties. (Meg's answer actually convinced me to use dedicated playlists, but then, after toying with the devices and iTunes I stumbled on the solution to my original dilemma, which I've seen discussed in many places but not yet answered)
    So here it is:
when you connect the device (nano multi-touch or iphone 4, don't know about others) to iTunes, while having "Manually manage music" disabled (with "Enable disk use" enabled or disabled, it doesn't matter), go to Music tab, check "Sync Music", choose "Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres" and that's it. You don't check any actual playlists, artists etc below, you can drag from iTunes and drop your chosen music to the device, play it, rate it, connect to iTunes and sync and you'll see the rating and play counts updated. Simple as that.
Thank you Meg, your answer is actually the best, I guess, since having the dedicated playlists tends to keep things more in order, but - thank you Apple! - you don't always need to be perfectly organized in order to have an up-to-date rating.

  • Is it possible to export/import subclips between 2 different computers?

    hi,
i am collaborating on a project with someone, we need to export/import subclips between 2 different computers. is thisa possible, and how?

    Hi there,
I'm the other collaborator on a project with Jelly Belly. As I am coming from using abode premier pro to final cut, the concept of sub clips is new to me.
We are planning on capturing close to 50 mini dv tapes, in as far as possible complete master clips for each tape. Once this is complete we will have all master clips copied to two identical 1T external hard drives.
Then the plan is to break the master clips down into sub clips in order to thin out and better organize the footage. To speed this process up we plan to do this concurrently on two separate computers, at this stage both running Final Cut Express 4. Once this is done is it possible to import those sub clips into a new project? At this point we will most likely running Final Cut Studio 3.
If so then how would one go about doing it?
Thanks for any further advise on this.

  • Importing song ratings from Music Match.

    I am new to iTunes.
I am trying to switch from Music Match to iTunes in preparation for buying my 1st iPod (Nano). It seems that my song ratings from MMJB do not transfer into iTunes. Should these ratings transfer and I am just doing something wrong?
If not, any suggestions on how to best accomplish this task? I am thinking grouping songs by rating in MMJB, either in playlists or by moving each rating to a different folder on disk; then importing into iTunes songs of each rating separately. Hopefully in iTunes there is a way to rate a group of songs all together, rather than having to mark each one individually.

The playlist idea is probably the best one. Export your playlists (5 of them, one for each rating), import them, select all the playlist contents in iTunes, right click the selection, set the rating to whatever.

  • Importing; tracks are in different playlists

I have imported a CD where the track names were not available from the store. I have typed in all the information, - titles in Greek - but I find the tracks in separate/different playlists. Each playlist contains the tracks of each separate Greek alphabet letter, and then not in track number order either, but alphabetical. I have checked the information is the same (eg disk 2 of two) etc, and find no differences. It appears the first letter of the track name creates the new playlist. I would like them all in one playlist, in the order they were on the CD I imported from.

When I import several CDs and then merge those imported tracks into one iTunes album it often makes a mess. I merge the imported CDs by ctrl-clicking on the albums, going to get infos and editing the common data (composer, artwork, album title etc.). ITunes does make a single album out of the cds but sometimes it merges the tracks in a silly order. This happens especially if the CDs are not known to Gracenote. In that case iTunes will merge the CDs in the order Track 01, Track 01, Track 01, ... instead of all tracks from CD1, then all tracks from CD2 etc.. Since there is no Undo if the merge I have to re-import all CDs and start again. Very annoying.
I can set the sort field to sort by "import date/time" which brings the tracks in the order I want (i.e. first all tracks from the first imported CD, then the next one ...) but when I sync my iTunes with the iPhone all the tracks are again in the order Track 01, Track 01, etc. (i.e. the CDs are interleaved).
I do not want to build a separate Playlist but want a single iTunes album with all the CDs that belong to a particular set in correct order.
How can this be done, please ?

  • Export/Import file ratings between computers

I've tried to find a way to export and import file ratings between my laptop and my desktop. I have the photos stored on both machines. I take my laptop to the client and rate the photos. How do I copy just the ratings without having to copy the entire directory?
I have Bridge CS4 on a Windows XP machine.
I've tried copying the xmp files. I've tried exporting the cache. But neither of these give me rathings on my desktop.
Anyone know how to do this?
    Thanks

It depends on your type of files. For DNG, PSD, JPEG, TIFF and others, the rating is stored in the image file itself (like other EXIF, IPTC or XMP metadata).
For most RAW formats, it may be stored in the XMP sidecar files. Have a look at your images with a tool like ExifToolGUI and look for the XMP field called "Rating". It's either in the image file or in the sidecar file. If it's in the image file, I'm afraid you'll have to either copy the images or find a way to export the ratings to a seperate (text-)file and re-apply from there, but I don't know how to do that.

  • Portal Export Import with DB on different OS

    Hi All,
I have a quick question about exporting the OracleAS Portal Metadata Repository database. Our source DB is on a different OS to our target DB.
We are going to apply the 10.1.2.3 patch and associated portal export/import patches to both nodes (from note 263995.1).
Our understanding was that we would use the method described in Chapter 10 of the Portal 10.1.4 Admin Guide (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_18/portal.1014/b19305/cg_imex.htm).
However, according to metalink note#276620.1, because our source and target OS are different, we should use the database export/import methodology that is described in Chapter 11 of the Application Server 10.1.2 Admin Guide (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_18/core.1012/b13995/prodtest.htm).
Could anyone tell me which way is better, we would prefer to use the database export/import method, has anyone tried this and what are their experiences.
    Regards,
    Tim.

    Regards,
Tim.As far as your referred Metalink note is concerned, it gives you three options to move your repository with if you are working with 10.1.4 Portal.
It's a difference of can, should and must.
    - It only shows ability to use three options ( can );
    - on the whole, it does not give preferences for any method ( should );
    - nor does it put a requirement for any single option ( must ).
( the only requirement/prohibition is for the option 2 which is not supported ).
we have used the first three methods given on the note (yes, we also tried 2; this note came later). 1 is what we use regularly for transports between environments; and 3 we use for environment staging (as given in chap 11 of pt. 3). both can be messy with a large repository (we do so for about ~400 GB) repository. but following that supportability guide (Metalink Note 333867.1), method 1 works too.
    hope that helps!

  • Import song ratings

i have a ipod classic 80g and a ipod mini 20g (i think). both of these have different music since neither can hold everything in my itunes library, i use the song rating function often as a way of organizing things. however, i have not been succesful at finding a way to update my song ratings in itunes from my ipods. i do not know if turning autosync on would work or not since neither ipod contains the entire library. any help would be extremely helpful

Song ratings only update from the device back to iTunes if your automatically syncing your library. I'm fairly certain that iTunes itself won't sync the ratings if you switch from manual to automatic. There are programs that claim to be able to sync ratings back to iTunes but I don't have one to recommend to you offhand.

  • Can I import songs from two different Macs using home sharing?

I have two MacBooks and a IMAC G5.
I set up home sharing but can't seem to import songs from PC one to another.
I was able to do it but now 2 of my PCs are using Yosemite.
I want to move my music from, Macbook, to iPAD, to iPhone to iPOD.
Any help with this will be appreciated
    Thanks

You can't use home sharing to put music on your mobile devices from your iTunes library, you will need to sync them.

  • Can i do client export import between systems with different patch levels

we want to do a client export import between two systems. As I understand the patch levels should be the same in both for this to happen..
But right now I am in a situation where time is a big constrant. The basis patch level is on par. But the rest are not. Can I do  client import successfully at this stage.

The only thing that may stop it working could be additional functionality between the systems.
I work on XI and there is a huge difference between SP12 and SP15.  We were able to do the transports between systems, but as Dev was patched before QA, and the transport was reliant on standard settings not being available, it still went though, but we had to transport it again after applying SP15 to QA.
Again, it probably depends on what System you have running on Netweaver...

  • Export/import OiD users on different platform

    Hi,
I am trying to migrate 9.0.2 from NT to UNIX environment and as a first step I need to move all the users from OiD on NT machine to OiD on Sun Solaris. Does anyone know of any good documentation for this? Or has anyone done this sucessfully before?
Thanks in advence for yor help.

We have moved users in Oracle 9iAs Release 2 from a Linux machine to a Linux machine (different versions of Linux). This was done by first creating a LDIF file and then using bulkload. While this seemed to be a total pain at first once it was done it proved quite easy.

  • Re-importing songs whilst saving original song info

When you import a song from a CD that you already have on iTunes, it tells you that you already have the song and asks if you want to replace it. I love the way doing this keeps all the song info; ratings, artwork, comments, even which playlists it is in... whilst still re-writing over the song, which is good for if you want to change the format the song is in e.g. MP3 to AAC.
I am planning on making some copies of some of my dad's albums onto CD-R, with the songs in AIFF format, so that I can then always have a quality master copy to import from if I want to change how I store my music (e.g. MP3 to AAC.) This is because I won't always have access to my dad's CDs in the future.
My question is, is there another way to re-import songs in a different format that still saves all it's info (the playlists it's in, comments etc.)... or is doing it from the CD using the option to replace the old song the only way? Can you do this kind of thing from music stored on a hard drive, for example?
I hope I have explained my question ok, maybe someone who knows alot about iTunes type stuff will know the answer. Thanks everyone!

    Thanks everyone.
In response to Mr Blobby, I am aware of the convert to option, but that doesn't keep the song in the playlists it was in before, it creates a whole new song whilst keeping the old one. I'll definately use it in the right circumstances though.
In response to Michael Allbrit; Thanks for the point about AIFF files not supporting ID3 tagging. It wouldn't really matter in the procedure I want to do, as I actually want to retain the info I'll ascribe to songs on songs in a format like AAC, which I'll keep on my computer, then have back-ups in AIFF on CD (which is good option as if I want to re-import the songs in a different format, I can replace the AACs, whilst still keeping all the info for them.) I may never even re-import them, I just want that option to kind of future-proof my music, especially as I'm 22 now, so I'm expecting that at some point there'll be a better way of storing it.
In response to peeble; thanks for your point. I won't be converting up to AIFF from something like an MP3, only from the original CD version. Good point though and would have been helpful had I not known.
If anyone out there does know the answer to my original question, I'd still like to know. Thanks.

  • When importing songs, a title listed at 6:38 will chow in itunes as being 28:00 Why? How can I fix this?

I was importing songs to my main playlist, when a song that is listed as 6:38 in my downloads file entered "28:00"...Why did it do this and how can I fix it??

It seems to be working now. I noticed it kept crashing on the same song so I just deleted the file and now it's processing the files. I guess the song was corrupted or something. So far so good...

  • Import songs along with playlist?

It used to be that if I wanted to send a playlist of songs, in a specific order, to someone else, I could just export an .m3u file and place it in the same folder along with the song files.  The recipient could simply open the folder, drag everything into iTunes or double click on the .m3u file, and iTunes would import the playlists and the associated songs along with it, in the correct order.
Ever since upgrading to iTunes 11, this no longer seems to be the case.  I export a playlist as usual in .m3u, put it and the associated songs in the same folder and send away.  When the recipient trys to import the playlist, the playlist and the songs all import, but the playlist is always empty.
I've tried various methods of importing - double clicking on the playlist file, dragging it and the songs into iTunes, dragging the whole folder into iTunes, importing the playlist via File -> Library, or Adding to Library.  All the same result - an emplty playlist with the correct name shows up, and the songs show up in the library, but not attached to the playlist.
I've also tried all export formats (.m3u, .msu8, .xml, etc), and I've even tried changing library organization settings on both ends.
I'm sure it's something dumb on my part, but whatever it is, I haven't been able to find it.
All computers in the mix are running Mountain Lion.  iTunes versions vary between 10 and 11, mostly 11 (I need it to work in 11).

The M3U approach is nice, but hardly anyone uses it, and in iTunes 11 it does not even work. The way it is almost always done is to put the files in a folder and prepend 01, 02, etc.;  see monthly CMJ mixtape for an example.

  • ITunes playlists, song ratings gone in 10.4 under Lion

Im in a crysis here. My iTunes Libaray is gone under 10.4 in Lion. when i first started up it just gave me the standard iTunes window when you have no music or anything. You know it tells you where you can get it. So then i just told it to search my user folder for stuff to import and it started. but then when it gets done none of my songs had ratings that i had applied and none of my playlists where there. I checked my Music folder for playlists and didnt find any. what can i do?

Your playlists, song ratings, comments, or other information you create are stored in the iTunes Library file found in /Users/username/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library.  What are the iTunes library files?, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1660
Tip: New versions of iTunes sometimes include enhancements to the iTunes library. When you open the new version of iTunes, iTunes upgrades your existing library to the new format and places a copy of the old library in the Previous Libraries folder. If everything goes fine during your upgrade to the latest version of iTunes, you can delete the older iTunes Library files.
Look in your  /Users/username/Music/iTunes folder for a folder called previous iTunes Libraries.  These files are dated with the date created.
How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists, http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1451 explains how to recreate your library and playlists using these previous files.
