Export InDesign to PDF without blank pages

Hello, my company has been using InDesign CS3 for documentation to print or view in a PDF format. In multiple page documents we will insert blank pages for printing double sided - however, if people just view the PDF file these pages become annoying. Is there a way to have documents with blank pages, not export the blank pages, but still have the correct page numbers and the Table of Contents reflect the correct pages?

Try PRINTING to PDF instead of exporting, and uncheck the "Include bank pages" box. This should give you a PDF in single pages with no blanks. I don't believe it will affect the page numbering in Acrobat (though it may be disconcerting for users to have skipped numbers), but I don't really know how it will affect the bookmarks in the TOC. My gut says it should still work.

    Hi all,
    is there any option to export webi document into PDF without blank reports?
    Best regards,
    Martin Zluky

    Hi Zluky,
    Select your Report and then go to Properties of the report
    Click the Plus sign next to Page layout and uncheck start on new page.
    If you are using section then you will have to select the section and then do the same.

  • Print to PDF---Showing blank Page

    Hi,
    I have report with chart-view and filter-view.
    If i Print the report into PDF without applying any of the prompts it's working fine.
    When am trying to Print the report after applying prompts...(let's say if i select 100 values from a multi-selector prompt) it's showing a blank PDF page.
    I tried to change the size of the PDF in the following path also...but no use
    C:\OracleBI\web\javahost\config\config.xml
    Can anyone suggest how can i get out from this issue(OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1)
    Thanks in advance..
    Pramod Sankati.

    Try this to create large PDF:
    1.Modify <oracle_home>\OracleBIData\web\config\instanceconfig.xml and add the <JVMOptions> tag to increase JVM heap size :
    <JavaHome>C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_16</JavaHome>
    <JavaHost>
    <JVMOptions>-Xms256m -Xmx512m </JVMOptions>
    </JavaHost>
    2.Modify <oracle_home>\OracleBI\web\javahost\config\config.xml
    There are two locations of <InputStreamLimitInKB>. One location is inside the <PDF> tag and another is inside the <XMLP> tag. For OBIEE (10.1.3.x), the correct tag for <InputStreamLimitInKB> is <XMLP>.
    Increase the value of <InputStreamLimitInKB> inside the <XMLP> tag from default value (8192kb - 8MB) to 14336.
    For example:
    <PDF>
    <!-- Size limit for PDF request message -->
    <InputStreamLimitInKB>2048</InputStreamLimitInKB>
    <!-- Path to PDF userconfig.xml file. -->
    <!-- <UserConfigFile/> -->
    </PDF>
    <XMLP>
    <InputStreamLimitInKB>14336</InputStreamLimitInKB>
    </XMLP>
    3.After modifying the xml files, then stop and restart the BI JavaHost and BI processes
    4.Retest the problematic report and observe the outcome. Adjust if necessary in small increments.
    Note: An appropriated number of <InputStreamLimitInKB> is not a magic number and you may have to try to tune it to suite your environment.
    <InputStreamLimitInKB> when it is set to 0 (zero) equals unlimited; however, unlimited is not recommended. The <InputStreamLimitInKB> was designed to be a governor to prevent system overload.
    I hope it helps.

  • Exporting webpages as pdfs? Losing pages?

    Okay, I often open webpages on my Mac in Safari, and either export or print them to pdf to read on an e-reader, a Story HD. The pdfs look fine on my Mac in Preview, but they sometimes get cut off partway through, leaving blank pages thereafter, on the e-reader. I don't know what is causing this and what, if anything, I can do about it. I checked both the root and user libraries for internet plug-ins, but there was nothing pdf related, and there were only the system ones installed. I zoom in before exporting, so the text is more readable on the e-reader. I am using Safari 7 in Mavericks. I have the DuckDuckGo and OpenDyslexic extensions.

    Okay, thanks. I tried Calibre, it can convert the pdfs to e-reader-readable epubs, but it is a pain to use, because it insists on "organizing" everything into its own folder, when they were organized into topic-specific folders, on renaming everything "Untitled," and on interfering with the e-reader when I was trying to quit Calibre and transfer over the converted versions. So if anyone knows of better options that don't insist on "organizing" and renaming everything, that would help.

  • MS Word 2004 print/save as pdf - mysterious blank page

    Hi,
    I'm using Microsoft Word 2004 with OS 10.4.6. When I use the Save as pdf feature under the Print dialog, I keep getting blank pages in the pdf that don't appear in the Word Doc itself.
    The Word document contains 30 pages. The first page is a jpeg graphic. I managed to get it to print fine the other day, but after my wife fixed a few spelling errors, I got a blank page as the second page in the pdf. Strangely enough, there is no blank page there in Word. I turned on invisible characters in Word and couldn't find any stray characters. The first page is a jpeg graphic that takes up 75% of the page.
    All of the pages are formatted the same, portrait 8 1/2 x 11 with standard margins. Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    I tried pulling out the margins all the way the the edge, but I'm still experiencing the problem. I also tried reducing the image size significantly with no success. Any suggestions?
    I also tried deleting the image. With the image gone, the extra page goes, too. The page with the section break is still there but mysterious page #2 is gone. When I import the image again, though, I re-create the problem.
    I just realized I didn't try the 'Use Printer metrics to layout document' that Paul suggested and might look into that.
    Any other suggestions? I hesitate to do it because the document is somewhat elabourate, but I might try rebuilding the first few pages in a new document to see if I add the image first and then add the text if it will solve the problem.
    One other question. When I reveal invisible formatting, it does show two paragraph marks in the footer. This is the same for all footers on every page in the entire document. Could that be causing the problem? If so, do you know if it is possible to delete only the footer on the first page?
    One other clue: I used to have a graphic on the back page and now that I think of it, there was a blank page after it, too. It sure sounds like your tiling description...
    Thanks again for your help.

  • PowerPoint to PDF creates "blank" pages

    I just downloaded Acrobat 9 this afternoon and have tried several times to convert a very large PowerPoint presentation to a PDF file.  One time is said "unexpected error" mesaage, so I shut down and restarted.   The second time, it made the PDF file, but there were a lot of blank pages throughout the PDF document.   Does anyone have any thoughts on fixing this??

    Here was my dilemma.  I was printing multiple files as Notes Pages to PDF. I had files created in Powerpoint 2010, natively and by me; files created in 2010 by someone else; files created in 2003 by me; and files created in 2003 by someone else.  The files created by someone else didn't work.  The ones created on this machine did.  I tried countless printing options, restarted the print spooler, nothing helped.  Then I embedded the true type fonts (all characters), saved the file to disk, closed it and re-opened it and POOF it worked.
    My problem was only on Notes Pages printing or saving to PDF, and only with presentations not created on this machine regardless of version.
    Hope this helps.

  • Interactive pdf without any page transition, only hyperlinks

    Hi,
    I wanted to export an interactive pdf but I can't lock the page transition. Is that possible to have a document which you only can navigate with hyperlinks?
    Kind regards

    No. You cannot control how your viewers navigate through a PDF file (thankfully!) They can always exit from full screen mode.

  • Pdf opens blank page in safari

    PDF opens as a blank page in safari.  Can any one help?

    Hello S Butler,
    Welcome to Discussions!
    See if any of this helps you below.
    Also did you use the combo up-date for 10.4.5? Because this version
    corrects things in Safari that the stand alone does not.
    Did you repair premissions before and after the up-date?
    Did you turn off your firewall?
    Safari: PDFs now open directly in Safari instead of in Preview
    When using the latest version of Safari with Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger," PDF links that you click will now open directly in the Safari window for your viewing convenience. Before Tiger, PDFs would open in Preview.
    If you still prefer Preview, simply Control-click the PDF link (or right click on a two-button mouse) and choose Download Linked File from the shortcut menu. Once the file is on your desktop, double-click it to open in Preview.
    Notes:
    In addition to Control-clicking the link and selecting Download Linked File as described above, you also have the choice of using Option-click on the link to shortcut the process even further.
    If you do open a PDF in a Safari window, you can Control-click on the PDF itself and choose Open with Preview.
    Due to certain server configurations, some PDFs will still download to your desktop instead of opening in a Safari window.
    If you use a third-party PDF plug-in for Safari, it will block Safari's built-in PDF support.
    Please let us know if anything works for you.

  • PDFs print blank page with URL on top

    Whenever I try to print a PDF from within Safari XP 4.0.4, I get a blank page with just the URL on the top line and page 1 of 1 on the bottom. I don't know if it's different when I click the printer icon or go to file/print. Help?

    Just doublechecking. Are other PDFs currently printing properly for you, George? (Say, if you're printing them directly from your Reader as opposed to printing them through Safari's Adobe PDF plugin?)

  • Exporting to a PDF with facing pages

    Please help, I have encounter a problem with InDesign CS4, which I didn't have with CS3 version.
    When I export an InDesign document with facing pages into a PDF, it turns it into a PDF document with consecutive pages (spreads are broken into individual pages). I want to keep the facing pages format in PDF as well.
    My document is an online newsletter, which can be printed on an office printer. Pages are letter size for convenience
    Now, I tried to check "Spreads" in the export to PDF dialogue box and what happened is that Acrobat resized spreads containing 2 facing letter-size pages onto a single letter size page. The cover appears and prints fine, but all the spreads are downsized.
    What am I doing wrong????

    Thank you very much, I went into Acorbat's file-properties and set it up there and it worked!
    but for some reason I never had to change settings in Acrobat with InDesign CS3 documents

  • Combine jpegs to create PDF with blank page background

    Hello, I have hundreds of newspaper scans of various sizes, same dpi, and I want to combine them to create one PDF with each of them on a blank 8.5 x 11 background page? like in a scrapbook. Is this possible using only acrobat? Or does it need to be done on a program like indesign? Appreciate any thoughts.

    Here's a script that you can use to create the blank document with a button on each page. When a page is clicked, it will prompt you to import an image (it defaults to PDF, so select JPG from the from the dropdown) to use for the icon. You can set the "num_pages" variable from 100 to whatever amount you need. To run the script, open the JavaScript console (Ctrl+J), copy the entire script below, paste it into the console, select all of the lines, and press Ctrl+Enter. This will run the script and the result will be a 100 page PDF:
    // Start of script
    // Create a new document and make the page a template
    var newDoc = app.newDoc({nHeight: 11 * 72, nWidth: 8.5 * 72});
    var t1 = newDoc.createTemplate("t1", 0);
    // Add a button to the template and set the various properties
    var f = newDoc.addField("icon", "button", 0, [0, 11 * 72, 8.5 * 72, 0]);
    f.buttonPosition = position.iconOnly;
    f.borderStyle = border.s;  // Solid
    f.buttonAlignX = 50;
    f.buttonAlignY = 50;
    f.buttonFitBounds = true;
    f.buttonScaleHow = scaleHow.proportional;
    f.buttonScaleWhen = scaleWhen.tooBig;
    f.lineWidth = 0;
    f.fillColor = color.transparent;
    f.strokeColor = color.transparent;
    f.setAction("MouseUp", "event.target.buttonImportIcon();");
    // Create multiple pages based on the template
    var num_pages = 100;
    for (var i = 0; i < num_pages; i += 1) {
        t1.spawn(i, true, false);
    // Remove the template page
    newDoc.deletePages(newDoc.numPages - 1);
    // End of script
    Save the file that is generated. After you populate all the buttons by clicking on each page, you can flatten the pages by entering the following line in the console and executing it as you did with the previous script:
    // Convert button appearances to regular page contents.
    flattenPages();
    Save to a different file and you should have what you want. Post again if anything isn't working.
    Note that it would be possible to automatically import the images, but you'd need to create a list of the files you want to import and amend the script a bit. If interested, I could show an example of how you'd do this.

  • Acrobat Pro 9: "Merge files into a single pdf" creates blank pages

    I have a similar problem as a previous post (which hasn't been answered).
    I am able to pdf individual Word documents fine, but when I try to Combine > Merge files into a single pdf, the resulting pdf pages are all blank. I don't receive any error messages or have problems saving the file.
    I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 (9.5.1) on Windows 7.
    The merging of pdf's hasn't worked at all since I installed the program.
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi Bill
    Thanks so very much - you have solved the problem.
    I tried Document > Insert Pages and that worked.
    I then ran the "Repair" feature on Adobe which installed a few updates and I am now also able to merge pdf's by using the "Combine" feature and all the pages show the text/info.
    Thanks again for your help, it is very much appreciated.
    Thank you also to Apoorv for your assistance.

  • Exporting InDesign to PDF: resolution output / Distiller Color Management

    Specs:
    Power PC G5, Mac OS X 10.4.11
    InDesign Middle Eastern Version CS3
    Acrobat 9.0
    Distiller 9.0
    Thanks to anyone who can answer any of these questions for me.
    I am sending files to a printer who has requested either PDF files directly from InDesign (file-export) or run through Distiller then into Acrobat
    (default setting of “PDF/X-1a:2001”).
    Question 1: Resolution
    They also have the instructions "PDF Output resolution should be set to 600dpi." Is this referring to the Compression pane (Bicubic Downsampling to 300)? I called the printer to confirm if this is what they were referring to, but was told they don't answer questions about making PDFs and that's why they encourage people to use their in-house designers.)
    Question 2: Color Management
    For the Distiller/Acrobat option, they have an instructional PDF which I followed, but on the Color Management Pane, they choose the option for Color Handling: "Let InDesign Determine Colors" and the Output color is Composite Gray. But when I get to the color handling option, I only have 2 options: "let PostScript determine" or "no color management." How do I get the InDesign option?
    Question 3: Grayscale Text
    Another requirement is that the "Interior text should be submitted as grayscale only." In Acrobat I can preflight and change to grayscale. But will solving the problem of #2 in creating a PostScript file take care of this?
    Question 4: Error in Distiller
    I get this error when I open Distiller: "Error in /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings/PDFX4 2007.joboptions:
    /CheckCompliance out of range" However, the Postscript file goes through just fine as far as I can tell. I found a forum post on this and the basic idea seemed to be "ignore it." Is that a correct interpretation?

    1: This, only down samples your resolutions so they are capped. You would need to make sure your Links are 600dpi or better. (TECHNICALLY this is PPI). Now normally I wouldn't hard *** someone over the difference, but considering there is NO DPI setting I'm aware of (again its PPI) pointing out their error may just get them to explain a bit more what they mean.
    2: You can not create an X1a compliant greyscale file.
    3: I would guess here they simply mean don't use rich black or multiplate text. This would be due to registration. Just stick to K (black only) and you should be fine.
    4: I would not even use distiller for this, stick with Export to PDF.
    To be honest this part
    I called the printer to confirm if this is what they were referring to, but was told they don't answer questions about making PDFs and that's why they encourage people to use their in-house designers.)
    Would have me looking elseware ASAP. The answer would have taken two seconds from anyone whose head wasn't firmly planted south of their shoulders.

  • PDF shows blank page

    Occasionally i have pdf's that come to me that display a blank sheet in reader. The last was sent to me as the customer could only view it in google (which made me think it was a webp) but it was a pdf and was the same for me, blank in reader but opened in google. All of the files with this problem open in Illustrator (CS6) and all contain a clipping mask. If I release the clipping mask, delete it and re-save the doc, it will then view ok in reader.
    So is the problem due to the preferences when the original was saved or the preferences in reader at my end?
    It clearly has something to do with the clipping mask (or maybe alpha mask which I don't know much about) and i have on the odd occasion saved a doc myself in illustrator that also creates this issue.
    An explanation would help so I can sound a little more intellegant when I try to explain to the customer!
    Thanks.

    Unfortunately not, it's commercialy sensitive info. I know about 6 months ago I created a pdf with a similar issue. Can't recall what I did, but i'll see if i can either find or replicate it.

  • CALLING A PROC VIA LINK IN A REPORT WITHOUT BLANK PAGE

    hi,
    would like to call a procedure via a report link and having as target the same page.
    An howto / a link.
    thanx a lot

    Hi,
    my idea to solve that is to create a link where you set a value to a hidden item and the process(on load) fires only when that hidden item has the certain value...
    So you can put a link to the column in the report attributes with the certain value and the item. Then create a process in which you call the procedure. This process must be 'on load'. Further the conditional display should be 'Value of Item in Expression 1 = Expression 2'
