Export interactive pdf with InDesign CS4 (linked avi)

Hello
I've exported an avi linked video to pdf from InDesign CS4. Video is playing but I have a few questions.
1. Any way to get around the security stuff in Acrobat? Allow blocked content blocked, etc. without user needing to allow.
2. Does the export degrade (lower) video quality if the video is linked? End user said video quality was poor.
Thanks.
Dave

Current Acrobat versions will have security issues. The only way I know is to go into Acrobat's preferences for Multimedia, Trust Manager and Security to allow from certain sources. I haven't done that, so you should probably ask advice on the Acrobat forum.
Linking video should have no effect on quality. It's all in how you've encoded the video.

  • Interactive pdf with InDesign CS4

I'm trying to create a 20 page interactive pdf but having a horrible time with rollover buttons.
The look of the document is like a manila folder with about 8 tabs, which represents the chapters, peeking out from under a designed cover. I'd like the reader to be able to click on those tabs in order to access the chapters.
Now after converting the tabs to rollovers, the problem hits when I export to pdf. When I open the pdf, rIght off the bat the cover is behind all of the tabs.  The rollovers work but the cover needs to be in front of the tabs.
When I remove the rollover effects and export to pdf, everything goes back to normal, but of course without interactivity.
Is there a way to fix this, or do buttons always jump to the front of things?
    Thanks much to all.
oh, doing this on a pc btw.
Actually, the same thing happens on my new mac pro as well.

  • InDesign - exporting interactive pdf with page curls issues

I followed a Rufus Deuchler adobe tv video called "InDesign: creating interactive pdfs with page turn and flash animations"  and I was able to create an Interactive Pdf document with page culrs but it is limited to only my mac Book Air as when I sent it as an attachment (pdf) it did not work on any other PC or mac.
Have  I missed the point or have I not done something as I thought the video mentioned that any adobe reader could view the interactive pdf (ie on other PCs or tablets)?
    Thanks
    David

Only Adobe Acrobat or Reader can show those PDFs (and many others) correctly. Are you sure that the PDF was opened in one of these 2 applications and not in Apple Preview or Ghostviewer or something else?
Only Adobe Reader 9 and X and Acrobat 9 and X can show PDFs with Flash content correctly. If you have an older version, let us say Version 8 or older, you are not able to see Flash content at all. If you have a newer version, that is Reader XI or Acrobat XI you need additional Adobe Flash player have installed on that computer and allow access to your PDFs. Can you check, if these substantial requirement are fulfilled?

  • Export a pdf in Indesign CS4 grayscale cropmarks not register

I export a high quality pdf from indesign CS4 and I noticed that my crop marks are coming out in grayscale not register.
    Any Ideas

Yes I have pro. When I look at preview I see what you are talking about. Its weird. When I have acrobat open and click the crop mark pitstop tells me the crop is grayscale but when I go to the preview window the crops are there in each color

  • Exporting Interactive PDF with MP4 File

I am trying to export a file from InDesign for work.  We send out daily email with PDFs from InDesign and would like to include from training videos.  How can we include the MP4 format video so we can watch them in the PDF we send out.  I've read through the Interactive PDF guides and forums.  A still image of the first frame of the video appears, we can't get it to play.
    Thanks!
    Adam

While including an MP4 video is good if you know the recipient is using Acrobat/Reader on a desktop computer, the content may or may not work on a tablet or smartphone. I'd go with Wilhelm's suggestion of providing a link.

  • Special letters do not export to PDF from InDesign CS4

I have just installed Indesign CS4 and gathered all the fonts I needed from my old computer. Everything has gone well until I tried to export my document to PDF. The PDF showed the Icelandic special "Ð" and "Þ" letters as a missing letter, a white space or a simple box. This only happens in several typefaces, namely Helvetica Neue, Cohin and Times. (and maybe some others). Note that the special letters are shown in InDesign. I reckon that there is some problem whit the export… Can anybody help me?

You can check the "Advanced" section when you export the PDF to make sure that fonts are being embedded. Both d-with-bar and thorn are part of the glyph complement of Helvetica Neue, so either the font is not being embedded, or something is wrong in ID. You can also go to the "Composition" section of the Preferences and put a check into the "Substituted Glyphs" box to make sure that the d-with-bar and thorn that are appearing in your ID doc are actually part of the font (which they should be).

  • Trouble Exporting to PDF in Indesign CS4

    I'm using Adobe Indesign CS4
I am using a custom font called Bill Hicks 5. When I go to export my document into a pdf file, it says this font can not be embedded due to a license restriction with the font. It loads for a while, then says it failed to export the document to pdf.
In the past I have used InDesign CS2 and used this same font and never had any problems. Please help, How do I fix this?

    Kenneth,
Many, but not all, font licenses that restrict embedding also include wording that precludes using "converted to outline" or "rasterized" versions to get around the physical font embedding restriction. Unless you read the font's End User License Agreement, you cannot be certain what the actual restrictions are.
I'm not defending such restrictions or even the initial restriction against embedding, but as a matter of contract law, if you use the font at all you are agreeing to the license terms. If you can't abide by the license terms, find another font.
Note that InDesign 6 (=CS4) now has a "live PreFlight" feature that lets you discover these problems immediately upon selecting a font for use within InDesign so that you can avoid the previous scenario of using a font for months and not "realizing" the physical restriction against embedding existed until you try to create a PDF file (by the way, the PostScript to PDF method would also refuse to embed such a font).
    - Dov
PS: Also note that regardless of whether a font's file structure has security that prevents embedding, the font's End User License Agreement may have wording that restricts such embedding. The wording of the EULA would override the lack of any physical protection in terms of subsequent license enforcement.

  • Problem Exporting as PDF from InDesign CS4 on XP SP3

    Hi guys
Has anyone else encountered a problem when exporting a PDF file from any of the standard setting within InDesign and a PDF with 0kb file size is generated and obviously wont open in Acrobat
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated

I've not seen anything like this. Try replacing the prefs.

  • Exporting to PDF with hot html links

I'm trying to create a pdf document that has functioning html links. Does Pages let you do this?

To create a PDF with live links you'll need to buy a full version of Adobe Acrobat. Adobe Reader is just as titled - a reader. It will only allow reading and basic markup of pdfs.
The PDFs created through the Print menu are also very simple PDFs. Their creation is not a function of the program the original document comes from, be it Pages, Numbers, Word, Excel, Appleworks etc. It is based on the operating system using technology which is probably licensed from Adobe.
To get all the functionality available in a PDF, you've go to pay the piper - Adobe - for the software.
    Good luck,
    Terry

  • SWF doesn't seem to export to EPUB with InDesign CS4

I have set up a test InDesign file for an ebook. This includes two different placed SWF files. These do not seem to export to EPUB format. Everything else works as expected, but I really wonder whether I might be doing something wrong or whether it isn't possible to deal with swf-animations in ID CS4 and EPUB.
    Thanks for your answers.

I have now unzupped the epub file and the XML file contains the code for the swf files to be shown (I think).

  • Exporting to PDF with InDesign 2014, colours not displaying correctly.

Since we have updated to InDesign 2014, we are getting a lot of comments from our customers saying and asking why the colours are different. At first we thought is was because we send out low res proofs and there could have an issue when they tried to print. However, we are now getting comments from customers when we send them print ready versions. We cannot duplicate the problem on our machines (or my Windows Phone). We then suspected that it could be the version of Acrobat the customers are using, we are asking customers for this information. We have checked our presets and they are the same as they were for previous versions.
Has anyone else seen this behaviour and do you have any suggestions to remedy it?

If you are using custom color for your CMYK settings make sure that you set the right profile color in your InDesign CC 2014, since InDesign CC 2014 default color settings is set to "Working CMYK - U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2". InDesign CC 2014 then exports your file to PDF using the default profile.
In Previous InDesign CC the default values for Assign Profiles is set to Discard (use current working space) for RGB Profile and Discard (use current working space) for CMYK. But in InDesign CC 2013 if you are going to export an InDesign file into PDF, it will automatically use your Color Settings options for CMYK values. But in InDesign 2014 those settings will be ignored by InDesign because it will use the current Assigned Profile by InDesign. If you are going to check your your working space back in InDesign CC 2013 it was set to your CMYK Color Settings.
And Finally always check you pdf setting under Export PDF settings dialog box to No Color Conversion.
Hope this help. And I can't be sure if this will solve your problem. But at least I was trying to help.

  • Interactive PDFs from InDesign

Has anyone created an interactive PDF with InDesign that has links to a specific page in a separate PDF? If yes, can you suggest where I might find good instructions to do this? I used Acrobat to create the links using relative paths and they worked fine as long as the PDFs were viewed with a browser, but when a reader downloads the first file from the web to their hard drive (making PDF "A" no longer in the same location relative to PDF "B") the links are then broken. So, I re-created the links in Acrobat using absolute paths for the links and the links work for me, but my client says they don't. Is there a better InDesign way to do this?
    Thnaks in advance,
    Suzanne Roberts

There are lots you can do. Unembed fonts for one. This would require using stock fonts like times, arial, geneva, monaco, etc. Optimized images in Acrobat.
There is plenty of info on the web. Check this google result from my search

  • InDesign-error exporting to pdf with art linked to a Read only server

My question is about an error exporting a PDF from InDesign ("Cannot export pdf"). The InDesign file has links to art (a .psd file) from a secure file server where I have Read permission only--not Read/Write. The error only happens when I have linked art from this server.
To export a pdf, is it necessary to have Write permissions to the server that has linked art? To export to PDF of course I am not changing the linked file! My InDesign file only links to it. So why doesn't it work if I have Read permission?
    Can anyone help?
Can it really be that Read only permission is not enough for linking to art and making a pdf?

I wouldn't think it would be a problem. Are you sure you have write permission where you want to save the PDF?

  • Forms Warning with Interactive PDF from InDesign

    Hi all,
I have created an interactive PDF in InDesign CS5 with a series of buttons, and those buttons link to bookmarked pages within the document. These buttons are setup on one of the Masters. It seems that whenever I get more than 10 buttons on the master, I get the following warning when I open the exported PDF in Adobe Reader:
"Please Note: You cannot save a completed copy of this form on your computer. If you would like a copy for your records, Please fill it in and print it"
I don't have any form fields in the document that I am aware of. Is there any way to locate form fields if they do in fact exist?
Is there a limit of 10 buttons per master perhaps?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Glen

    Thanks Peter.
Is there a known workaround? I ended up using hyperlinks instead, I suppose there really is more than one way to skin a cat.

  • Exporting a pdf in indesign CS5 interactive portfolio, the buttons dont work?

interactive PDF using Indesign, Export problems
im working on an interactive portfolio, its got 6 pages and four of them have buttons which scroll through alternative images which relate to that page. All very simple stuff. as far as im aware its all set up properly and in preview its working like a dream. As soon as i export > adobe pdf (interactive) > i tick buttons and media Include All  but when i open the finished pdf i wont let me use the buttons. they are acknowledged by the fact that when i hoover over them there is a tin black box that apears but the actual button its self wont work.
if anyone knows how to export such a file so i can share with people as an interactive portfolio i would be most grateful. thanx

Or, better than that, export the PDF from InDesign as PDF/X-4!
By default, Acrobat and Reader use overprint preview when displaying PDF/X-4 files. Plus you have the benefit of full color management and not having transparency ruined by premature flattening.
One other note. Other than for the fairly common practice of overprinting black text over colors to avoid halo effects due to registration, one should be exceptionally careful in using overprint. Trapping, the other good, justifiable use for overprint is really best performed by the RIP. Most modern RIPs provide for automatic trapping. Overprint should absolutely not be used as a “poor man's transparency,” especially in conjuction with spot colors. With the advent of real transparency in the Adobe imaging model and hence in Illustrator, InDesign, and PDF, there is no good reason to use overprint hacks anymore to simulate transparency.
