Export JPEG Original Version

Is ist possible to export the Original Version in JPEG without resetting all the pictures?

Not entirely sure I fully understand your question, but the original files are not being altered by Lightroom. Lightroom is a non-destructive editing program. Any modifications you have made to them are stored and applied on export, etc. So your original files are still "original" as it were. What file format are your originals? Maybe this is where I'm mis-interpreting your question - are your "originals" RAW files and you want to produce an un-edited JPG set?

Sorry leonie, 'Use RAW as Original' is not an option for the image shot with the Canon.
Then your Import settings must have been different, when you imported the Canon photos.
You can check, if there is still a hidden raw file somewhere. If the image has been imported as a pair, you should see the "J" badge in Browser and Viewer, if you enable badge overlays. This indicates a pair, with the jpeg as original.
Select one of those images, and then relocate the original files "File > Relocate original" to a folder, where you can inspect it. Use "File > Show in Finder" after ward. Look, don't touch .
Then put it back, using "File > Consolidate".
Do you see your raw files in the folder, or is only a jpeg there?

Wild guess: you're using the the wrong export settings. You'll need to tell us more before we can help you - like the export settings you're usng, the size and format of the originals etc.

Yes, the old album art view is gone, bu you can see the album art for a song that's playing by clicking on the art image and it will open a bigger view.

IPhoto '11: Export (JPEG) size not working

I keep all my photos taken with iPhone 4 in iPhoto '11 ver 9.42 (710.42).
It is a very excellent app to mange my photos.
Recently I need some photos from iPhoto for the use in my web project.
So I export them in JPEG, choosing "high" quality and "large" size.
Yet, some of the exported JPEG are still in the original size of 2592 x 1936.
I have tried other size options, but those (same) JPEG are always in the original size.
What happened?

If the pref file was damaged your test library would have exhibited problems also. Try the following:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note: your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
Also there's a new update for iPhoto, 9.4.3. Wouldn't hurt to update to that version.

How to export the original raw file?

I have read a few threads about this but have not seen the answer.
The original file from my camera (.PEF) now exists only in the Aperature library. I want to export a copy to my desktop so I can do some special processing with Pentax software. How do I export the original .PEF file? (Exporting Masters only gives me processed file types like TIFF and JPEG.)

Export Version gives you a processed file such as a TIFF or JPEG.
Export Master will give you a copy of the original RAW file.
Please double-check that you used the correct export command...

"Original Size" picks up the resolution from the image, so is image dependent.
The DPI settings by default are 300.

Are you copying the cropped images directly from Aperture's Browser window and then pasting into your family tree?
It would be safer to export the cropped faces as new image files to a folder on your disk, and then drag them from there to the "Family Tree" window.
To export select the cropped image versions in Aperture's browser and use the command "File > Export > Version". Select a suitable export preset from the pop-up menu, for example "Jpeg fit into ..." and select a folder to export to.

The difference in sharpness and overall contrast between LR5 and LR4 low res. export JPEGs

Installed the evaluation copy of the LR yesterday and as always compared with the previous version (4.4) of the program. The first and not very pleasant difference was the sharpness of the exported JPEGs in low resolution. In full resolution exports it is not that much noticeable. As you may see on the below photo LR4 export is noticeably sharper than LR5. All the export settings were the same in both versions. I used my saved export preset for both JPEGs. The LR5 exported JPEG is slightly lighter than the one in LR4.4. Both photos look the same in develop mode screen, so the difference is in export processing.
Would be great to know hear the experience, thoughts and comments of others about it.

Exported JPEGs Distorted in Shadow Areas

I own a Nikon D7000 and I shoot 14bit RAW.
In Lightroom 3.3 the preview images were distorted, only in development mode the images were fine. I reported to Adobe on this and they seem to have fixed this issue.
In Lightroom 3.3 -- and still in 3.4 -- the exported JPEGs are distorted when the exported image is resized:

As you can see, the gradient has serious artefacts, especially when going from green to black. It is a 90% JPEG quality exported of 1050px width. I have seen this for different image qualities (80-100%), though. This does not occur when the image is exported full size.
Can anybody confirm this?
It seems that this only happens for dark shadows.
I had a Canon G9 that I used with Lightroom and I have never seen a behaviour like this. Right now the export is useless to me.

I've had some discussions about this with Adobe folks during the LR 3 beta phase, but that is all behind a wall now. I think they did put in the dithering into Lightroom now. I still think it is your monitor profile. Also realize that the displays in laptops including the MacBook Pros are not actually full 8-bit displays and you will always see some banding in them. See for example this page: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/gradient.php My guess is that that will show banding on your machine in the shadow areas. Also another issue is that you have to look at these displays at precisely the right angle because you will get raised shadows by quite a bit if you look at them just a few degrees off. One thing to do is to use a test image ( I use monitor_test_txt22.png from this page: http://www.normankoren.com/makingfineprints1A.html ). When you squint the image should be uniform. If not slant the display until it looks uniform.

Droplets vs Export as Original?

hey friends.
I'm fairly new to lightroom but have been using photoshop for a while now...
this is my question:
i want to use photoshop actions on my lightroom edited photos.
i have read about, and used to some extent droplets...writing action sets in photoshop and then creating a droplet and running that through the LR export dialog...however, i just can't seem to get it to work flawlessly.
i guess my question is...as i understand it, the export dialog creates a jpg and then opens this jpg in photoshop and runs the action. then resaves it as a jpg. if i understand this process, wouldn't that degrade the overall quality of the end result jpg?
would a better option, to maintain the highest quality, be to export as original from LR and then run the image processor with my actions from bridge/PS?

i totally get what you're saying...i guess i didn't think about it that way...
i was exporting a jpeg from lightroom first...i'm so used to the way the image processor works in PS.
if i was to export as a tiff and then run the droplet, it would save the tiff (straight from LR) and then as a jpg (from photoshop using my action set)...correct?
so, essentially, it would give me a similar result as if i exported originals from LR and then used the image processor in PS to create jpgs?

Exporting jpegs from llustrator for retina monitors

I'm a web designer that designs my mockups in AI (yes, in AI and I love it) and then sends those native files over to my programmer when it gets time to code. We've been working this way for years and he's quite comfortable with that, so no issues there. My issues come when exporting the draft versions in jpeg for my clients to approve of the designs and go through revisions cycles from there.
Up until five months ago, I was still using a pre-retina MBP but since upgrading, it's been a real nightmare seeing what those jpegs look like on screen and I can only image the face some of my clients will also be making when seeing those files.
Now I know that AI cannot increase the image resolution without increasing the image dimension as well on export, and since I don't want to work in Photoshop (for many reasons related to workflow and time), what other options do I have? Does anyone have a workflow that I'm maybe missing out on?
I generally create my mockups at 1920px, so naturally if I export them at 144dpi or whatever, it will double to pixel dimension and I don't want that - I'd like my clients to be able to view the actual size of the elements.
Anything suggestions or is this a dead end as long as I use AI?

Interesting. Well, when I think about it, I have had one client complain recently that a mockup for an HTML newsletter was very "low quality" (I always export at 100% quality and Art Optimized). I assumed he was on retina and thus that was why he was mentioning the quality.
Either way, I will definitely look into it, perhaps directly with Apple, because this is not only draining in terms of time + energy but it is also driving me bonkers and defeats the purpose of even having a retina display in some sense...

Exporting jpegs-- why do I get 72ppi when i set resolution at 240ppi ?

Why does Lightroom export jpegs at 72ppi resolution-- when I clearly set it at 240ppi in the export window? It has done this for versions 1.0-1.2.
For exporting psd or tiff-- everything works as planned. Anyone have a solution?

Do not click on the minimize metadata checkbox. The resolution is meaningless anyway, but if you want the field uncheck that box.

Video Sidecar Files (.THM) Not Created When Video Exported As Original - They should be.

When exporting video as in it's original format the .THM sidecar file (which contains all the relavent metadata for the video) should be included so that other programs (or even Lightroom itself if using the Add to This Catalog option during export) can have access to the metadata for the video.
Here is my use case:
After importing the original video clips I would like to do the following to keep my footage clean and conserve space (as we all know HD video eats a LOT of space)
1. Trim excess / unneeded footage from the clip
2. Export the clip in it's original format with a new name (such as MVI_1234_trimmed.mov) and have it added back to the catalog during the export process.
3. Delete the original clip containing the unneeded footage.
This workflow is almost perfect in the initial LR 4 beta release except that a copy of the .THM file is not included when the video is exported. This means the new clip will not contain any metadata when added to LR or presumabley other applications. I can manuall get around this by duplicating the original .THM file and renaming the duplicate to match the name of the new trimmed clip (example MVI_1234_trimmed.THM) then manually importing into Lightroom. However this breaks the almost perfect workflow and increases time and room for error. It would no longer be an automated process which could easily be applied to clips in bulk.
Please have LR create the sidecar file with when exporting in original format or at least have an option for it!

The proposed workflow may not be valid based on the discussion here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/947245?tstart=0 but the sidecar file point still is. Exporting as H.264 does not preserve metadata either. LR shows no camera / exposure / date time information for the H.264 version.

Aperture Exporting JPEG's from RAW: file size and quality questions?

So, I'm using Aperture 2 and I've got some questions about exporting from RAW to JPEG. I shoot with a Nikon D70 so original RAW files are 5-6mb in size. After doing some basic post processing when I export the pics at "full size" with picture quality of 11 out of 12 then the resulting JPEG is about half the file size of the original RAW file. For example a 5.6mb RAW becomes a 2.6mb JPEG. The resolution in pixels per inch and and the overall image size remain unchanged. Have I lost picture quality due to the exporting JPEG being smaller in file size?
My friend who works with me prefers to edit in Photoshop and when he follows the same workflow his saved JPEG from the identical RAW file in Photoshop is minimally smaller in file size, say 5.6mb to 5.3mb. He's telling me that my Aperture edited photos are losing quality and resolution.
Is he right, are my pics of lesser quality due to being a smaller file size? I've always been told that the quality of a picture is not in the mbs, but the pixel density.
I've bee told that Aperture has a better compression engine and that the resulting files are of the exact same quality because the PPI and image size are the same. Is that what explains the much smaller file sizes in Aperture?
I tried changing the picture quality in the export menu to 12 out of 12, but the resulting JPEG then becomes larger than the original RAW at over 7mbs.
Can someone please help me understand this better? I don't want to lose picture quality if that is indeed what is happening.

JPEG is a "lossy" file compression algorithm. Whether Aperture or PS, *every time a JPEG is saved some loss occurs*, albeit minimal at the 11 or 12 level of save, huge losses at low save levels. Some images (sky, straight diagonal lines, etc.) are more vulnerable to showing visible jpeg artifacts.

*Both of you are losing image data when you save to jpeg.* IMO the differences between the apps is probably just how the apps work rather than actually losing significantly more data. The real image data loss is in using JPEG at all!

I doubt it.

The issue here is not how many pixels (because you are not varying that) but how much data each pixel contains. In this case once you avoid lossy JPEG the quality mostly has to do with different RAW conversion algorithms. Apple and Adobe both guess what Nikon is up to with the proprietary RAW NEF files and the results are different from ACR to Apple to Nikon. For my D2x pix I like Nikon's conversions the best (but Nikon software is hard to use), Aperture second and Adobe ACR (what Photoshop/Bridge uses) third. I 98% use Aperture.

JPEG is a useful format but lossy. Only use it as a _last step_ when you must save files size for some reason and are willing to accept the by-definition loss of image data to obtain smaller files (such as for web work or other on-screen viewing). Otherwise (especially for printing) save as TIFF or PSD which are non-lossy file types, but larger.
As to the Aperture vs. ACR argument, RAW-convert the same original both ways, save as TIFF and see if your eyes/brain significantly prefer one over the other. Nikon, Canon etc. keep proprietary original image capture data algorithms secret and each individual camera's RAW conversion is different.
