Adding new files to the existing Keyword Collections
Hi,
I have been using Keyword Collections as folders when importing files - not sure if there is a "normal" way of creating folders for clips/audio/other files?
Anyway, when I start a project and import a folder with a few files, I create Keyword Collection. Later on, when I add more files into that folder in Finder and try to import the same folder as keyword collection again, the "new" files will not be assigned with that keyword collection. They're thrown straight into the event and the keyword collection only shows files from the first import.
In other words, having a Keyword Collection created when importing a folder - is there a way to assign more files to it later on? Sorry if it's a stupid question.
Thanks,
KamilYYou can drag them into the keyword collection once you've imported them. Another simple way is to pick up the files in the Finder, use Cmd-tab to switch to FCP, and drag them directly to the collection. The clips will import using your import preference.

Bridge does not accept Keywords for video files
Lately, when I try to add a Keyword to a video file (.mov Quicktime) in Bridge, I get the following error message, "The file (name) cannot store XMP metadata. No changes will occur." How do I fix this?
Thank you! This could be an OS permission issue. Is this an internal or external drive? I can add keywords of .wmv files.

Converting .MOV video file into FLV format?
Hello, I finished editting a corporate video for client and they want to know if I can also send them an FLV format video.
Does anyone know how I can do this. I edited video in Final Cut Pro and used Compressor to export my final .mov video file.
How do I make this a FLV file?
Thanks~The best method would be to use a Flash encoder to transcode the video. Do you have a Flash encoding application?
Another method would be to export an H.264 file of the video. When it's finished, change the file extension to .flv. It should play in later versions of Flash player, but won't play in older versions.

Can I move ninety video files with their keyword tags from 'My Catalogue' into a another catalogue?

Can I move ninety video files with their keyword tags from 'My Catalogue' into a another catalogue?
Two problems :
1 - You can't merge catalogs in PSE
2 - The usual workaround is to 'write metadata to files', export the files and 'get' them into the other catalog. But you can't write metadata to files with video files.
The only thing you could do would be to duplicate the catalog and delete all pictures other than your ninety videos... -
Video files exported with QuickTime Pro 7.2 can't be transferred to iPod
If I use the default Export to iPod export choice in QuickTime Pro 7.2 to export video files and add them to my iTunes 7.3 library, when I try to sync them to my 5th generation iPod with video (November, 2005), I just get the "can't be played on this iPod" message. I can create, transfer, and play video files on my iPod if I create them a different way (by using iSquint, ffmpegX, or No Frills DVD2iPod, for example). Exporting to mpeg4 using h.264 results in the same problem, even though I've used settings I know worked before. The export to iPod export choice does not offer any customization of settings. Although this problem is new, I can't be sure the immediately previous version of QuickTime Pro didn't also have the problem, but I know I have successfully used QuickTime 7 to create videos that could be transferred and played on my iPod in the past. How can I use QuickTime Pro 7.2 to create video files that will be compatible with my iPod? Thanks.
Mac OS X (10.4.10)I can also verify this (QT Pro 7.2 exporting to .mp4 not compatible
with video iPod [firmware 1.2.1 on both 5G/5.5G units]).
This results in the unusual situation where custom H.264 output
is operable on the iPhone but not the iPod.
Example: your iPhone should play
http://homepage.mac.com/retiarius/sample.elements.mp4
but it won't transfer to a video iPod.
Yes, the workaround is to 'export for iPod' or do the conversion
within 'iTunes', but this in many circumstances will generate
larger files.
The closest description of this situation is:
http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/ffmpeg-devel/2006-September/015930.html
Perhaps Apple will release a video iPod firmware update soon
to get the 'uuid' atoms and whatever watermarking they are
using these days straightened out.
I'm surprised this hasn't been noticed more by video podcasters
who dutifully use Apple's own QT Pro encoding tool to optimize
filesizes via the tunable H.264/.mp4 codec settings. -
The video file was filmed in iMovie, exported as quicktime movie (.mov) and inserted
Is there a solution to this? I really need this to work!

How do I export video files from iPhoto to a backup external hard drive for safekeeping?
How do I export video files from iPhoto to a backup external hard drive for safekeeping? Each time I try, the video will not play from the external hard drive.
Use the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with Kind = Original. That should get the original video file exported. Try to export one to the Desktop first and open it with Quicktime Player. If all goes well export the rest to a folder on the EHD. How is the EHD formatted? It should be OS X Extended (journaled).

I want to give my friend a video file, so when he imports it into avid, premiere, final cut etc. he would recieve 6 mono tracks (L,R,C,LE,Ls,Rs) and the last one to be stereo. but every time i export it comes as 7 mono tracks. and in the setting thats the only option
i think you would have to go with 8 mono tracks, 6 for the 5.1 mix and 2 more for the stereo. that or try to use 4 stereo pairs, but that would combine parts of the 6 mono (5.1 mix).

Help Exporting Embedded Video Files From Flash
I am new to Flash and this may sound, well dumb but here it goes. I have taken some video files from Final Cut Pro converted them to FLV's imported them and embedded them into flash to create some banners for the web. I need to know what settings I should use to get these out of Flash for the web.
Also I need to send them to someone to look at before publishing. What would be the best format to do that in and how to do it.
Also has anyone has any experience creating banners in or online ads in a Video format like FCP and embedding them into a flash file to export them in flash for we publishing. Sorry again for the dumb question, just new to Flash. Is there a reason why you embedded the video in Flash rather than using the FLV player?
Starting with the video, since you have the source you can create any type of format you need from that which can be used for preview or the final version depending on where it's going to end up and what is required or preferred. Flash comes into play if the requirement is to have a SWF/FLV other than some other video format, or if you have other Flash content going on at the same time besides the video.
But using Flash for this, the most stratghtforward way is to use the FLV player included with Flash (or another 3rd party player) and point it to your FLV. -
EXPORT FEATURE IPHOTO-Video Files in "Event" are exported as an empty file!!!
Ok...this is devastating! Lets say you have selected an event containing 10 photos and 2 videos...you then choose to export the entire event via FILE>Export...
When you are prompt to choose the file types, location, and quality you make your desired choices and off you go...at first glance in the newly created folder that you have designated on another drive or folder 10 photos and 2 videos show up....PLAY the videos and they are 1 second long instead of their original length...
If you hand't played the video you would assume that everything worked perfectly and you could then then delete the event and master files from your computer to acquire more space, but this would essentially cause you to loose the true video in its entirety and could be devastating!
I think this feature needs revision!Download and use Find Any File to search for the file name and extension of the video. FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders and packages.
You may find several items with the same name so check their size. Note where the larger file resides.

APE 10: How to select a frame be the thumbnail for the exported video file?
I have Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and using Windows 7. I create a title and place it as the first clip in the Sceneline. When I export the video and look at the file using Windows Explorer folder view, the thumbnail shown is a frame from another clip and not the clip containing the title. How can I get the title to be used as the thumbnail for exported video files?
Hi Bill, thanks for your thoughts on this.
The file created is indeed the one intended and in the correct folder. When I double-click on the file the video is played and the first thing I see is the title. So the video created has what I expect. Go figure.
I'm starting to think that there might be a Windows setting that determines how Windows Explorer picks the frame to be used as the thumbnail for video files. I have not found any reference to it so far.
Here is some new info...
If I replace the first clip that has the title with another clip, then the thumbnail is created from that first clip. As soon as I add the title as the first clip, then the thumbnail is created from the second clip.
OK ---- I just found information that states that the thumbnails are created by Windows and placed in a file that act as a cache for the thumbnails. This prevents Windows Explorer from generating the thumbnails each time the folder is viewed. In my computer (64-bit Win 7), the thumnail cache files are stored in folder "C:\Users\Ramon\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer". They have an extension of ".db". I found the information at this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_thumbnail_cache -
Premiere will not export Uncompressed or DV compressed video files
Working with CS4 with all current updates...
I have no issue exporting any other format (that I know of) including flv and wmv and m2v.
I am using PCs with Windows 7 Pro 64bit on a Desktop with 8GB RAM and Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit on a Laptop with 4GB RAM. I've had nothing but problems with CS4 since I cleanly installed my Desktop and purchased my Laptop. Adobe Premiere will not export DV compressed with video, only audio, and will not export uncompressed at all! I have a system with Vista Pro 64bit at work, and none of these problems are there.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the whole suite (plus removed all preferences files and went in to the user profile and manually removed any traces) to no avail. As I am experiencing this same issue across two totally different systems, is it a known bug with Windows 7 64bit? Is there any way to fix the issue?Sorry it's taken a bit to get back with you... I've been busy on another system. My assets are R3D files at 4k resolution under the Red 1080p preset. I have a Core2Duo with 8GB RAM, 2TB HDD, Running Windows 7 Pro 64bit and CS4 Production Premium. What other system specifics do you require?
I do have a Matrox RTX2 card; and did not uninstall and reinstall it when I uninstalled and reinstalled my CS4 software.

Can't open a video file after Final cut export
Very strange issue which getting me nuts.
I've FCP 7 on Lion.
I'm finishing a project and export it as it is on an external hard drive for back up.
I've got a .MOV file.
After that I'm making an other folder and export all the working file from FCP.
End of the story.
Later I want to open the Quic time video file... and then I've got an error message telling me that QT is looking for data of the video file "xyz-FIN-0000000e"
There is only a STOP button.
If I press it I've got a new error message telling me :
The file "xyz-FIN-0000000e" can't be found. Without it the video can't be play correctly"
(I'm translating the message from my french system)
So I can find sometimes the files is asking from the other folder (the FCP back up files) and then it open it...).
But WHY does the video file needs reference files ?
It was an export and I ask the exporter to make a self movie...
Realy I don't understand what's wrong.
Any cue ?
Thanks !
Jean doIs this a Final Cut Pro .mov file. If it is it would open with FCP. Are you sure you saved with "self contained" checked. I seem to remember someone with a problem like this.
I think in the future you need to open your exported self contained FCP.mov files with quicktime Player and change the "open with" to quicktime player.

New MacBook Air display has same 6 bit color? I bet it does.
Sadly, all we have for color depth in the tech specs is the same old 'support for millions of colors' which we know in the past to have been a total lie. All the laptop displays have been 6 bit color, 262,144 colors, period. A great article on 6 bit
