Export large files and maintaining high dpi

My export default is set to 300 dpi, but it continually exports at 250 dpi -- how can I fix this?  I have very large files, but sometimes when I upload to Photoshop they show at 72 dpi.  Something is off.

Where do you set the export default? There is no Export default, afaik. You can define export presets, to pick from. Which export prset will be applied, depends on how you export.
If you export using the Media Browser - drag from the Aperture window, the Preview will be exported.
If you export an Image Version (File -> Export -> Version), the selected Export preset (in the File chooser) will be used.
If you export a Master (File -> Export -> Master),no export peresets apply, the original master image file will be exported.
If you export to an external Editor, the settings in the Preferences -> Export apply.
So how do you export and "upload to Photoshop to get so surprising results?

Raws, even if not compressed, Sould be smaller than a 24-bit Tiff, since they have only one bitplane. My T3i shoots 14 bit 18MP raws and has a raw file size of 24.5 MB*. An uncompressed Tiff should have a size of 18 MP x 3 bytes per pixel or 54 MB.
*There must be some lossless compression going on since 18 MP times 1.75 bytes per pixel is 31.5MB for uncompressed raw.

When you are dealing with websites, image file size is a trade off between quality and download speed. There's not a lot of point to having high quality images if they take too long to download in the browser.
Nowadays we also have to consider the device that the end user is viewing the images on. An image that is optimized for viewing on a large screen is total overkill and unsuitable for those using mobile devices.
Really we should be supplying different versions of media files for different devices using @media rules in the stylesheet but this is rather outside of the scope of iWeb. If you use the built in image optimizer and the iWeb Photo template with slideshow, the application will optimize the images according to the way in which you set this function in preferences and the slideshow size will be automatically reduced for those viewing it on smaller screens.
If you want to give your viewers the opportunity to view large, high quality images, you can supply them as a download.

Hi there! So I am using Lightroom 3 on a pc and I have ran into an issue when exporting images. The DPI and image size (in inches) that I am selecting during the export process. For example I just exported a collection and set the dpi to 180 and the size to 7 inches on the long edge. My exported result is 457 dpi and sized at 3200x2134 pixels.. Any ideas on why this is happening and what I can do to correct it?

The DPI setting in a digital image has no meaning at all. You need to learn how to calculate what you need in your exported image. The only measurement in a digital image that has any meaning is the number of pixels in each direction. It doesn't matter what you set that DPI to (actually it's PPI or pixels per inch). The image will have the same number of pixels regardless of the setting. If you need an image that is 5 x 7" (for example) at 200 PPI then you would want an image that measured:
    5 x 200 = 1000 pixels
    7 x 200 = 1400 pixels
So you would need an image that is 1000 x 1400 pixels to have a 5 x 7" image at 200 PPI. The reason your exported image had such a high PPI setting is because you specified the number of inches you wanted the image to be. And there were enough pixels in the image that it calculated out to be that high PPI setting.
I apologize, I don't explain this very well. But you need to learn to do the math to determine how large you really want your exported images to be.

  • How can I get to read a large file and not break it up into bits

    Hi,
How do I read a large file and not get the file cut into bits so each has its own beginning and ending.
    like
    1.aaa
    2.aaa
    3.aaa
    4....
    10.bbb
    11.bbb
    12.bbb
    13.bbb
if the file was read on the line 11 and I wanted to read at 3 and then read again at 10.
    how do I specify the byte in the file of the large file since the read function has a read(byteb[],index,bytes to read);
And it will only index in the array of bytes itself.
    Thanks

I guess the same goes for RAM to...Non-linear would imply access times other than O(N), but typically not constant, whereas RAM is nominally O(1), except it is highly optimised for consecutive access, as are spinning disk files, except RAM is fast in either direction.

  • How do I open png files and maintain transparency?

How do I open png files and maintain transparency?  I have many image files I had hoped to manage with aperture along with my photos.  I find that it wants to display them with a black bacground( they were designed for white) and when I want to edit that is kept even when I open with a psd format.  What do I do?
    Thanks

and when I want to edit that is kept even when I open with a psd format.  What do I do?
Transparency and layers are not supported in Aperture. You can import png-files or psd files with a transparent background and export the originals unchanged, but as soon as you edit them, the transparent background will be lost.
Aperture is an application to manage photos and not graphics compositions, sorry.

  • Diffrance between Generate Export D S and Maintain Export D S

    Hi Experts
If we right click on the Cube here getting so many options, in that what is the Generate Export Data Source and Maintain Export Data Source. what is the difference between them. Please explain with example.
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi,
If you want to load any BW Dat Traget (Cube/ODS/Master data) into another BW Data Target in the same or different BW system then you would create an export datasource. In the context menu (right click) of the Data target you would find the option "Generate export datasource". This way you create the datasource and the infosource is created automatically. Then you create the update rules and load the target cube/ods.
Goto RSA1 -> Infosource -> Datamart -> 8<Source Data Target name> to find the Infosource.

It's because the PowerMac G5 had HUGE bandwidth with a fat BUS on each processsor so they could run hard, hot and heavy.
It's not so with the Intel processors which are multi-core and share a common bus thus bottleneck.
The newer Intel processors can do more work on the CPU, but when it comes to in/out they are s-l-o-w.
I've had a wickedly fast dual processor (not dual core) G5, RAID 0 pair of 10,000 RPM drives as boot and a fast video card, I could do a lot very very fast.
You'll likely have to upgrade to Final Cut X to get more cores utilized, prepare to cry a little bit, Apple is working on the features they stripped out of it to make amends to pro users who complained loudly. (all over TV too)

I'm exporting an edited scene from an external hard drive to a macbook but the video on the laptop is anamorphic (squished) compared to the original file on the hard drive.  How do I export the file and keep the aspect ratio intact?

Please give the exact specs of your project. If the material is anamorphic, aspect ratio display is a function of the playback device. What is it?

  • Publish option that creates only 1 file and maintains the interactivity? CP 5

When I publish my project in Flash, it creates a folder with the .sfw file, the standard (JS file) and all my .f4v (videos).
I tried to publish my projet in the f4v format, but like you probably know, I loose all the interactivity (roll-overs, buttons, etc..).
Is there a better way to publish my stuff without having many files and maintains the interactivity?

  • Exporting Large Files for Web Use

Most of my images are around 3000x2000 in filesize and between 10MB and 15MB. They are for use on the web so I don't want them to be too large (in MB's.)
    What is the best option:
    - keep original size and lower the quality-setting from 100% to -let's say- between 75% and 90%
    - Resize them -let's say- to half size.
The large files have more pixels but are lower quality, or the resized files are higher quality but have less pixels - what is the best?

You don't need to but it is advisable as scaling always makes images soft.
You have to scale to display an image on a monitor as a monitor is a very
low resolution device. Luckily you can do the sharpening straight in the
export dialog and you don't really need to think about it. Sharpen for
screen at standard setting is usually just fine. So try using the following
    settings in the export dialog:
File settings: jpeg, quality 75, Color Space sRGB
Image Sizing: resize to fit long edge, 800 pixels
Output sharpening: Sharpen for screen, amount Standard
Metadata: Minimize embedded metadata (preserves your copyright info
but omits all the edit and
    camera info)
    Then play
around with the sharpening amount and compare the exports to see what
you prefer. There is very little difference between High and Standard.

  • Need help exporting large file to bitmap format

I have a large file that I need to export to a bitmap format and I am experiencing unknown "IMer" errors, memory and file size limitations.
The file contains only one artboard of size around 8000 pixels by 6000 pixels. I can successfully export as a png at 72dpi giving me a 100% image of my AI file. However I need to export an image at 200% of the AI file. If I export as a png at 144dpi to achieve this I get the following error(s)
"The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error (IMer)" or "Could not complete this operation. The rasterised image exceeded the maximum bounds for savung to the png format"
I have tried exporting as tiff, bmp and jpeg but all give "not enough memory"  or "dimensions out of range" errors.
Does anyone know the limitations with AI for saving large files to bitmap format?
Does anyone have a workaround I could try?

You could try printing to Adobe Postscript files.
This will actually save a .ps file and you can scale it to 200% when doing so. You'll need to "print" for every image change.
Then open a Photoshop document at your final size (16000x12000 pixels) and place or drag the .ps files into the Photoshop document.
I just tested this and it seems to work fine here. But, of course, I don't have your art, so complexity of objects might factor in and I'm not seeing that here.
And you are aware that Photoshop won't allow you to save a png at those dimension either, right? The image is too large for PNG. Perhaps you could explain why you specifically need a png that large???

  • Memory leak with large files and this code?

Okay, so the following code will not complete.
Basically what I am doing is opening 5 files and generating a PDF document from the already opened Report file, which is renewed prior to the PDF export operation.  I left out the general stuff at the start.  I am also writing out the location of the PDF to a HTML file, which acts as an index of the exported PDF documents.
I believe it is due to some sort of memory leak issue, but it could be something else or just my code.  I have not stepped through this code, but for small file sizes of say less than 40 megs per file, it works fine.  For file sizes along these lines:
    File 1 = 230 megs
    File 2,3 = 26 megs
    File 4,5 = 8 megs
it will belch erors at the end of about the 5th iteration through the For loop.  It will complete the 5th iteration however.  Here are the errors generated:

  • Exporting large file in QT

I am trying to export a 55 min. sequence in Pro Res 422 to a QT self contained file in the same format and I keep
getting the "error-out of memory" pop up.
I tried to render out the sequence first, but I get the same message.
This is strange as I have done this operation before without problems on a different project.
Not sure what to try next. Any suggestions would be appreciated as always.
    thanks
    MP

Thanks for the responses. I do have a good number of stills, but they are in RGB. And 55 min. of ProRes IS a large file, but it all is going into an empty 1TB external drive, so there is plenty of space there.
Now, this is a 55 min. doc that is subtitled. So, I'm thinking that the subtitling may make it render heavy.
I suspect that the problem is in the amount of rendering because I get the same message when I try to render the sequence before exporting it out onto a QT file.
So, this is where I go dark because I'm not really a computer techie. How is the rendering achieved? I thought that the system used HD space when it ran out of RAM.
My sequence is made up of 3 different segments from 3 different original sequence files. Would it help if I bring in all 3 sequences as nested files?
