Export large (huge) video in separate "chunks"?

FYI: Post written on December 2nd, 2014.  I'm fully up-to-date with all the software.
So, I am recording a day-and-a-half worth of presentations.  The video will total out to be about 12 hours or more.  I am recording presentations by various professors on different subjects.  12-hour-video is worthless to a normal sane person.  I want to cut the video into sections and then export to Vimeo.  Ultimately I would like to slice-up everything into 15-20 minute sections.  Is there an easy way, say "chapters", that I can setup in FCPX and then click "Export" and export out 40-or-so videos?  I'd like to call a section "Greg-1" and "Greg-2" and have FCPX generate Greg-1.mp4 and Greg-2.mp4, etc, if this makes sense.
Your advice is highly appreciated!

A GoPro has a 170° wide-angle - just a few meters away, you'll see the whole stage, escape doors and backstage area, and your face is just a tiny, glowing dot ...
And:
GoPro isn't famous for audio.
Even any cheap dictaphon, as close a spossible, e.g. on your presenters high desk, wlil offer a much better audio.
best-practice: you get socalled Lav mics for under 10€ (yeah, pros start howling in pain); connected to a mic-in on any dictaphon in your jackets pockets offers a 2000% better audio than any camcorder in any distance.
FCPX has superb and super-easy tools to synch such two recordings into one...
... give your students a chance to understand, what you're talking about...
And impress your students with some cut-aways/pic-in-pics of graphics, or at least titles, subdividing your master piece ...

  • How can you share a large (HUGE) video?

I created a 1:07:21 iMovie that is comprised of 3 short videos (20 seconds each) and LOTS of photos with an audio track of music.  I was able to make a DVD of the iMovie but I have not been able to share it on You Tube or any other site.  I have accounts with You Tube that will let me upload very large video files, but it's still not working.  Any suggestions?  My goal is to share the higher quality iMovie v. the DVD that has lower quality pictures (i.e. not HD).  Thanks!

If you are uploading directly from iMovie and that doesn't work try just exporting your project to a format and then uploading it to the YouTube site.

Please help. When exporting a 720p video using Quicktime Conversion in FCP it saves some extra temporary files to my computer. The temporary file it saves is called ICMMultiPassStorage. This file gets so large that eventually the program and exporting process crashes. I have been able to locate the file using GrandPerspective and close out of FCP to delete it. But when I try exporting the movie again it creates the ICMMultiPassStorage file again. I have made sure my scratch disks are set to my external hard drive so I know that isn't the issue. How do I fix this problem so these temporary files are not being stored on my internal hard drive instead of my external? Thanks!

Try exporting the timeline "using current settings" via Make QuickTime Movie, then submit that clip to Compressor for the transcode. This should be faster and less painful.

  • Export problem: incomplete video

    Hi everyone,
I'm using iMovie 5.0.2 on Tiger (QuickTime 7.3.1). A problem I've experienced with some of my iMovie projects is currently bugging me again:
I'm working in iSight mode to edit videos taken with a digital (still) camera in video mode. When exporting the final video, e.g. in iPhone format, everything seems to go fine, there is no error message. But when I open the resulting m4v file (or mp4 file) with QuickTime it only plays up to a certain point. After this point, I can hear and navigate within the audio soundtrack, but the video doesn't move anymore, ie just displays a still frame.
I've had the same problem with a few other QuickTime settings, such as the high quality setting. Interestingly, if I choose CD-ROM in the QuickTime export settings, the resulting file works perfectly.
Has anyone experienced the same behaviour? Any ideas?
    cheers
    Hendrik

Now, I've managed to free 6 GB on my hard drive and still the video was truncated at exactly the same point.
However, I've discovered something else. I don't know whether this is a solution or a workaround. When I made a slight change to the clip in which the video stopped (e.g. remove one frame at the start), the resulting exported video would continue until a later position. Repeating this procedure finally got me all the way until the end of the film.
I don't quite know what to make of this – I think the issue might not be related to lack of HD space after all. Maybe it's just another iMovie bug?
Boy, I think it's time for me to upgrade to a recent Mac with a) a larger hard drive, b) iLife '08 and all the other goodies in Leopard. Maybe the iMovie problem will be resolved in iLife '08. And if not, at least with a faster Mac I don't have to wait as long for the result.
    cheers

Not as a transition but as You got iMovie HD 6 there might be a plug-in that does this

    Thanks for the follow up.
From what you wrote, you have Premiere Elements 10. Is that on Windows 7 64 bit or other. For now I will assume Windows 7 64 bit. If version 10 is on Windows 7 or 8 64 bit it is a 64 bit application running in the 64 bit system which makes it possible for full use of the 64 bit resources. That is good news especially when you are trying to take a large project to completion.
You set up the project preset in the new project dialog to match the properties of your source media. That setting directs the program to establish the right space in the Edit Mode Monitor for editing purposes. That project preset also directs the program as to what disc menu set (s, w, or hd) will be available to you in the disc menu section. The project preset also has more subtle effects on the project settings.
What is you plan for exporting your Timeline, export to file saved to the computer hard drive or burn to disc DVD or Blu-ray? Keep in mind that the setting for the project preset do not prohibit variations in the export choice under most conditions. If you post a description of your source media and how you would like to export it, I will offer some very specific guidelines on that.
If you do go the purchased book route, please try for one which is specific to your version 10. There has been a marked change in interface starting with version 11. Often principles remain the same from version to version, but features do not. And, I always write "It is very frustrating to be armed with principles when you cannot find a feature."
I suggest that you start with the Premiere Elements 10 Help PDF and then decide what next.

    Also check out
    http://tv.adobe.com/show/learn-premiere-elements-10/
A lot of these links that say version 10, roll over to 11.
Steve Grisetti, the moderator of this forum, writes books on Premiere Elements if you are interested in the purchased book route.
Hope the information above is helpful. Above all do not hesitate to ask if you have questions on your Premiere Elements workflow or need clarification on anything written.
    Thanks.

  • How do i export a single video file that also contains ac3 audio

    Hi Guys,
Is it possible to export a single video file that also contains ac3 5.1 surround audio?
I can create seperate audio and video files ok, but not a single file?
    Please help...
    Regards
    Andy

You won't be able to do this with just FCPX by itself. You should be able to use Compressor to do this, or you can use Quicktime Pro to create a single .mov file from the separate video/audio files exported from FCPX.
If you use Compressor, you can save the preset and make it available inside FCPX for future use.

  • Crystal Reports 10 Enterprise Server Issue - Exporting Large Reports to PDF

Weu2019re implementing a Crystal Reports 10 Server for a customer but weu2019re having an issue with exporting large reports to PDF.  The report size that starts to show this issue is roughly 300 pages with 20 records per page.  We use the default Crystal ActiveX viewer.
Basically what happens is that the user will launch the report in the ActiveX viewer and the large report will take a while to load, as much as 3 to 4 minutes.  The user may then wish to export to PDF.  Once they attempt it with these large reports the viewer will basically hang and possibly be processing but will then time-out after roughly 5 minutes with this error:
    u201CProxy Error
The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request POST /thinqreports/THINQCrystalInterface.asp.
Reason: Error reading from remote server
    IBM_HTTP_Server/6.1.0.9 Apache/2.0.47 (Unix) Server at lmsproxy.aurora.org Port 443u201D
We believe this error is coming from a server on our network.  We have a proxy server between users and the Crystal Server that has a 5 minute time-out for connections.  What we want to know is:
    - Is there a way to speed up this export to PDF process?
    - Should the Crystal Viewer be keeping an http connection alive to the Crystal Report Server while its doing this export process?
    - If not, what port does Crystal Viewer use to communicate with the Crystal Report Server?
    - Is there something we can set in Crystal to keep an http connection open?
    - What is actually occurring during this export process?
Occasionally, we may get the above error when simply launching a report, not just attempting to export to PDF.  We presume that is because loading the report into the Crystal Viewer from the Crystal Report Server is taking longer than 5 min.
    Anyone have any thoughts?  Thanks.
    Scott

    Scott,
As this is happening within Enteprise (and I am assuming the report does not time out in the Crystal Reports Designer) I would suggest posting this to the BusinessObjects Enterprise Administration
    forum.
My limited Enterprise knowledge would be to suggest scheduling the report as PDF but I don't know if that is a viable option for you.

  • Export thousands of entries to separate files

I don't know scripting. But I would sure like to find a script to do this little thing for me!
    Some background is necessary:
Years ago, I was a dedicated HyperCard user. (If you know what I mean then you know my pain). I had a rolodex phone book with thousands of entries.  As OSX came along, I ran HyperCard in classic. Now that I'm on an Intel Mac, classic is no longer supported. My clever solution was to export my stack entries to text and bring them into InDesign.
I'm limping along pretty well. Search in InD is very fast. And I've formatted the text using InD search and replace functions, I've made clear separations between entries. Each entry is one Paragraph, and between each entry is a spacer paragraph which carries a particular paragraph style called "Card Spacer". See the screenshot below.
My goal now is to move the data to a more useful platform  - Notebook, Yojimbo come to mind. I'm thinking that what I need to do is EXPORT each entry as a separate text file to my hard drive. Then I can import the entries into the new database and each entry will be separate.
I'm hoping that a kind member with the scripting skills to do this will help me out.
    With appreciation,

    Hey Peter!
Thanks so much! The script worked, it created over 4,000 text files in the folder where the file sat. It took about 5 seconds! I think this will solve my problem.
Before I close this thread (with a "Yes, answered" click), there's one minor hiccup I'd like to show you. The script is creating files both for my entry paragraphs and also for the spacer paragraphs. So I get one spacer text file for each "record" file.
I thought it would be easy to simply delete all the odd or all the even numbered files, but for some reason, the odd/eveness of the record files is not the same throughout the 4000 files. Probably there is an errant extra Hard Return character occasionally, causing the alternation of odd/even to switch.
Can the script be modified to skip the card spacers? Can you test for the paragraph style and skip paragraphs that are styled with "Card Spacer"? Of course, I can insert any other character into the spacer paragraphs if you'd rather filter for something else.
I don't know if, or how, I would get rid of the extra records if I import them into the new program.
Peter, this is not the first time I've used one of your scripts. Looking in my scripts folder, I saw another with your name: KahrelBatchExport.js. Thanks again for your help.
    Check out this screen shot.

Your file may be larger than the maximum dimensions for a PDF (not sure what they are, currently). Try working at half-size in ID and see if it makes a difference.

It works locally (developer machine) or having less data. But it didn't work with large data when publish on azure.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Sorry, let me clarify my questions as they were ambiguous:
For a given set if input, does the request always take the same amount of time to fail? How long does it take?
When it works (e.g. on local machine using same input), how big is the output file that gets downloaded?
Also, if you can share your site name (directly or
indirectly), and the UTC time where you made an attempt, we may be able to get more info on our side.

Final Cut Pro: May quit unexpectedly when exporting to Flash
    Last Modified: February 13, 2009
    Article: TS2593
    Symptoms
Final Cut Pro may quit unexpectedly when you export using QuickTime Conversion if you choose Flash Video (FLV) from the Format menu.
    Products Affected
Final Cut Pro 6.x, Adobe Creative Suite 3 Flash Video Encoder
    Resolution
This can happen if you use the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Flash Video Encoder and Final Cut Pro together. This issue does not occur with the Flash Video Encoder in Adobe Creative Suite 4. To work around the issue:
Choose File > Export > QuickTime Movie.
Be sure to enable Make Movie Self-Contained.
Open the exported movie in QuickTime Player.
Export the movie to Flash from QuickTime Player.

I just installed CS5, so I would think I shouldn't be bothered with an older, problematic Flash Video Encoder. I don't think I should have to convert an MOV file to an FLV file using QuickTime Reader or anything else. Why doesn't it export correctly out of FCPro 7.0.2?

    oh well.

  • Exporting audio and video together for Mpeg2 dvd

Hi, I'm trying to export audio and video together for Mpeg2 dvd.. I changed  multiplexing to DVD but is still exporting seperately is there something im missing? thanksa

To add, with Multiplexing set to NONE, check what the Audio format is set to. If "PCM", this is an uncompressed .wav file and will result in export of .m2v video and .wav audio (I think Mac uses .aif) and use "Import as Timeline" in Encore for both clips at once. Encore will automatically transcode the audio to Dolby AC-3, do NOT mess with settings in Encore, defaults are correct. If you have CS6, then in AME audio settings, there is an option for Dolby and you can use that to create the .ac3 audio and then Encore does NOT do any transcoding to audio or video. Note that older versions will also show "Dolby" but that is a free trial of a surround encoder, not the same. You just want the stereo option available in CS6, or use PCM option is fine

  • IPhoto Export and HUGE Photo Sizes

So, I love iWeb and iPhoto 6 -- it works for my needs. But I have one major complaint after spending time organizing my photo library. The whole idea was to be able to re-arrange and update my website with two clicks: Export and Publish. But when you export to iWeb the original file size is exported to iWeb and used in the published site, regardless of the other scaling that goes on, for thumbnails, etc. This is a problem for two reasons. One, it slows down the site and two, I don't want my original full sized files out there for anyone to steal and print high quality copies. Now, if I export files to the web through the file menu, I can constrain the image size that is created. I suppose I could just drop the resulting folder right into iWeb, but then there goes the two click updating. And I'll be forever creating, managing and deleting additional file copies of my iPhoto images. So much for quick and easy. Am I overlooking something here? Is there something that I can adjust in iWeb, because this just seems like a silly omission and one, if true, MUST be corrected in the next updates.

I am going to offer not a 2 click solution but just an idea.......
First of all, iWeb only displays images at a max dimension of 800px, therefore as you say exporting larger images and not scaling them down seems a little silly!
My idea builds on what you kinda suggested above.
    1. Your have your iPhoto album organized
    2. In iPhoto, select all images in the album go to File>Export - Export your images to a new folder.
    3. Create a new iWeb-YourAlbum Name in iPhoto
    4. Drag the photos from your new folder into the album.
    5. Now do the 2 click publish that you originally wanted!!
But, as you say Automator should be able to handle some of this, Preview>Scale Images???
If you get something that works it would be great if you post back so that others can have the ability to do the same

  • P2 Card Video/Audio Separate?

Hey everyone, I'm new to P2 footage and have recently shot on the HVX. Now first thing I notice, is that the audio and video are separate. Why is that? Is there a way in premiere to sync them up without linking every clip? Thanks in advance.

    To me its a yes.
Thats a confirmation from me  that you can independently manage .mxf files outside the P2 structure that you maintain can not be done without "breaking" something
    Whatever...
I dont get why you need to rename files but I guess you have your reasons within your own edit and shoot workflow.
Renaming files  just does not figure in my primary  workflow that I use in shooting and editing  tapeless media
My tapeless workflows... work perfectly for me.  They are simple, effortless and fast.
Mostly they are "invisible"  (native) unless I choose to drill deeper into the Contents folder for various reasons as mentioned above.
Usually, I see and use only a Video file  eg.  xxxx.mxf and if it is synch sound or MOS thats all I get in the Project Bin  (one clip / one file)
P2 in practice ...is a single file from an editors and shooters POV.
A single file from a camera would make no particular difference to me in the real world.
Basically I shoot  "various" and I use whatever to get the results required.  I am not arguing for or against your single file (video / audio) but I felt you need to know that its no big deal or unusual to deal with.
