Export Large Indesign Document to Hyperlinked/Bookmarked PDF

I am trying to export a 600+ Indesign book as a PDF with hyperlinks and bookmarks but it constantly crashes. I have tried many things, including splitting the document into small batches, exporting and appending the pdfs but that is most time-consuming and definitely not efficient. I am using CS5. Does anyone have any solutions. Thanks.

There’s a script floating around but it’s easier to export one PDF and then use the extract pages command in Acrobat to make single pages.

How can I export an InDesign document as an interactive PDF for mobile devices?

Avoid SWF at all cost and export using Adobe PDF (interactive).
The experience will depend on the PDF reader that the user has installed.

I need to turn an indesign document into an editable pdf, how do I do that?

InCopy is a solution, but it's not the only viable solution.
I update many books, from 200 pages to 3,200 pages every year, long document, very techincal tax books.
Some are done through InCopy, some are edited word files and rtfs exported from InDesign, some are marked up hard copies etc.
It totally depends on the clients technical ability with computers. Last year I taught over 30 authors of ours how to use InCopy. Some were receptive, some were dubious, some were totally clueless.
And on the dubious and totally clueless I spent more time troubleshooting their problems than I would normally with a Word/RTF option.
Some people are capable of switching to InCopy or even know how to use it in the first place. For anyone never used InDesign or InCopy before then it's a massive learning curve to jump from MS Word et al word processors, to InCopy.
I do agree, it is the best solution that's out there, technically. But that solution is not usable by a lot of people.
Yeh if the client is comfortable with InCopy then it's the way forward.
But in most cases, in my experience, it's faster and more efficient to Export the text as RTF and let the author update the RTF. That leaves you in control of reinserting the text and formatting it correctly. Rather than letting the client add bold, underline, italics, superscript, subscripts, crazy workarounds because they didn't know how to do it properly. And in the end you end up with 2 or 3 times the amount of work than is necessary, just cleaning up what the client has done in InCopy that does not suit the overall formatting of the publications.

  • Inability to export from Indesign and save over exiting PDF on Mac Yosemite

When I export an InDesign document to save as a PDF, it only works if the PDF doesn't already exist. If I try to replace a file, I get the error File is Open. Needless to say, the file is not open. I'm using InDesign CC 2014 Release and a Mac updated to Yosomite 10.10.1. The files is on a Windows server 2008 and I have full permissions.

Try doing it on your Desktop. It may have to do with permissions for saving to the server. I believe there is an ongoing thread about difficulties saving to Windows servers with Yosemite.

  • When I export an indesign document the graphics are missing from the eps file.

When I export an indesign document the graphics are missing from the eps file.

The why it isn't working can be a number of reasons. While I never have exported an EPS out of ID before, I just tried it and it worked fine.
What "graphics" are missing? I used bitmaps, native drawn ID vector, lines and a placed EPS file. Came into AI as an opened EPS fine.
Links up to date? For items not hitting the EPS, are they on a layer set to non-printing?
In the export dialog,General tab, PostScript Level 3? Data format set to ASCII? On the Advanced tab, Send Data set to All? OPI off?

  • Exporting a multipage InDesign document to single page PDFs but with unique filenames using scripts

    Hi,
    I'm using InDesign 5.5.
My goal is to export a multipage InDesign file into single page PDFs but each single PDF must be uniquely named.
    For example;
    InDesignFileName_487275123.00.pdf
    InDesignFileName_734876882.00.pdf
    ...and so on.
I've spent a great deal of time searching online and the closest I have found is  software called Output Factory which works fine.
The way Output Factory works is by placing a script label within a textframe on the master page in InDesign. Then whatever is typed into the text frame on each the separate pages defines the file name of each separate page.
However if I can solve this problem without any investment costs my boss will be very happy
I found PEU5 which works great for exporting into single pages, it's now a case of naming each single PDF but I know nothing how about to create a script but I get the gist of what they do. My understanding is that a script could solve the second half of my problem.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks.
    S

Thanks Peter but but I don't think this is what I'm looking for.
I did find this post http://forums.adobe.com/thread/841982 but I can't seem to get the script to work.
This is the error message I get when I run the script... any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

  • InDesign and truncated hyperlinks after PDF conversion

I have encountered what may be a similar problem to the one experienced by Greg Hogan posted on 10-01-2007 (http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?224@@[email protected])
    I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 with a 1.5 GHz Pentium M processor, 2 GB RAM, Windows XP/Pro, and InDesign CS3 (v. 5.0.1).
    Problem description:
I have a multipage InDesign document with multiple hyperlinks, and some of those hyperlinks are very long and require more than one line. The hyperlinks that require more than one line look OK after conversion to PDF, but, if I hover the mouse over the link in the PDF, all the characters in the URL on the second line are missing, and the link doesnt work. I first discovered this using Acrobat Professional 7. I recently downloaded a trial version of Acrobat Professional 8, and I still have the problem, so I have concluded that the problem is with InDesign, not Acrobat.
Yes, I know I can create a hyperlink character style with the no break feature enabled. However, that can result in appearance and text flow problems.
    Is there a fix available?

I found the instructions on creating named hyperlinks in the InDesign Help file to be incomplete. Here is what I do, if I want a text hyperlink that "masks" a long URL (especially a long URL that wraps to a second line and gets truncated in a PDF):
Let's say I want a hyperlink in my InDesign document to say:
    Membership Application
I type that text into the document. Then I highlight it (not absolutely necessary, I think, but I find it helpful).
    Open the Hyperlinks panel: Window/Interactive/Hyperlinks
Click on New Hyperlink Destination (NOT "new Hyperlink From URL"). Select URL from the "Type" drop down box. The highlighted text will appear in the "Name" field. Enter (or paste) the complete URL into the "URL" field. Click OK.
Now, click on "New Hyperlink" in the Hyperlinks panel. With the text you want highlighted, that will show up in the "Name" field at the top of the dialog box.
In the "Destination" Section of the "New Hyperlinks" dialog box, select "URL" from the "Type" drop down box, and (once you have more than one link), the name of that link that you earlier assigned from the "Name" drop down box.
The correct URL will appear in the "URL" field.
You also have some "Appearance" choices that you can make from this panel. When you are finished with your selections, click OK. The link "Name" will show in the Hyperlinks panel.
Use a Character Style to apply a text color, and perhaps, a different font to the link.
If you subsequently want to change the "Appearance" features, click on "Hyperlink Destination Options" from the Hyperlinks panel.
The link name example I used, Membership Application, isn't likely to wrap (and therefore be truncated in a PDF), but suppose you had a really long URL like this:
    http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/12/24/technology/LA-TEC-Peru-One-Laptop-One-Village.ph p?page=1
and a narrow column. You could use "OLPC Article" as a link name (for example), and paste the complete URL into the appropriate field. Your link will work in InDesign (you can test this by selecting the link in the Hyperlinks panel and clicking on "Go To Destination"--provided you are connected to the internet). The link will NOT be truncated in a PDF and will therefore work in the converted file--provided you have checked "Hyperlinks" in the Include section of the Export Adobe PDF dialog box (under "General").
This sequence is reasonably straightforward, if a little tedious. However, it took me a while to figure it out. To me, the instructions in the Help file (and 2 other books) are not as clear as they could (and should) be. Perhaps the sequence is obvious to the vast majority of InDesign users.

  • Packaging large InDesign document - won't copy all links

I'm trying to Package a 1,000-page InDesign document that has about 375 links for our archive. When I go through the packaging process, however, it only saves about a dozen images or so in the designated folder. Any ideas why it's not taking the time to resave and compile all of the images?

What operating system specs; OS, RAM, available HDD, network or local?
Which version of InDesign, are you fuuly patched?

  • Trying to export my indesign document into a PDF that is 2.5 MB and still includes hyperlinks

I need to create a file size that is 2.5 MB. When I export on the lowest quality, it is too low in resolution (about 1.5 M), but if i choose other presents, they are both WAY bigger file sizes and will not let me include anything interactive, including hyperlinks. Is there a solution to this problem?

Set the resolution to 96 ppi

  • Can I export an InDesign document to multiple PDFs?

CS3 here. Soon to be CS 5.5.... but I have a 13 page document. Our print provider needs me to upload each page separately on their website. Ugh. Is there a way to export to PDF from ID CS3 and have each page be it's own separate PDF file? Or do I have to do it manually?

  • Exporting an indesign document as a jpeg

I've created a poster-sized document, including pictures, in InDesign. In order to have it printed I need to make it a JPEG. When I export it as a jpeg it changes it to 72 dpi, so it would look horrible printed. I know there's something I'm missing here. Can anyone help?

CS3 adds support for resolution but it's still not the best way to
    create a JPG.
Export a hi res PDF and then open that in Photoshop. It will give you
    far greater control.

  • When I export my Indesign document to an epub why is the first image smaller than the rest?

All of the images are intended to be full page, and appear so in Indesign, however when I export the document to an epub, and view it on the iPad, the first image displays at about half the size of the other images.
When creating the images in photoshop I ensured that they were all the same size and have not had this problem with any of the other epubs that I have made so far. Am I missing something? Any advice would be gratefully received! I work for a very small not-for-profit organisation that publishes books for people with learning disabilities and we are still feeling our way when it comes to producing ebooks!
    Thanks in advance,
    Hannah

    HI Hannah,
May i know what are your cover page settings while exporting...?
Is your document facing or non facing pages.
Hope there are no size related settings done to the first image in Object Export Options under objects sub-menu.
Because these are the prime settings that can affect it somehow.
