Export LR4 Preferences

Just exported LR4 catalog from desktop computer to new laptop. On desktop, 'Preferences' subfolders were in Lightroom\Lightroom Settings folder so they did not seem to transfer with the LR catalog.  When I investigated, the preference sub folders ARE in the Ligthroom\Lightroom Settings folder on the new laptop, but a manual I have indicates they are to be found in \AppData\RoamingAdobe\Lightroom. When i looked, turns out the preferences subfolders are also in \AppData\Roaming - but some of them have nothing in either the Lightroom Preset subfolder or the User Preset subfolder.   There are aslo more preferences subfolders in this folder than \Lightroom Settings.  I copied the missing user presets from \Lightroom Setting into the \AppData ones and that seemed to bring many of my user presets back into LR on the laptop.  However, I am havng a problem with Efex HDR - no matter waht folder I paste it into, it does not appear in my external editor list in LR.  All the other Efex suite edit programs appeared with no difficulty.
Did I do the worng thing by pasting these user presets into the \AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom?  Any suggestions as to how to get Efex HDR into the external editor list?

You talk of Preferences and Presets as if they were the same thing. They are not. And neither of them is part of the catalog.
Preferences are what you set in >Edit >Preferences. As far as I know they cannot be transferred.
Presets are not Preferences. Presets can be in different folders / location depending on if you have checked the box <Store Presets with catalog> in >Preferences >Presets tab, or if the box is unchecked.
If the box is unchecked the Presets are in the default folder, which is in the \AppData\RoamingAdobe\Lightroom.
If the box is checked Lr puts the Presets into a folder called <Lightroom Settings> next to the catalog.
If you ever checked the box - and if only for a short while - you will find the folder <Lightroom Presets> with Presets in it next to the catalog.
So it might well be that some of your user presets are in the folder <Lightroom Presets> and some are in \AppData\RoamingAdobe\Lightroom.
Copying the presets from one folder to the other is the right thing to do to "consolidate" the presets. As for your Efex HDR I am not sure if this is a plug-in or a preset ( I don't use Efex HDR).
If it is a plug -in you should install it using the Lr Plug-In Manager via >File >Plug-in Manager.
Generally it is best to leave the box <Store Presets with catalog> in >Preferences >Presets tab unchecked. he disadvantage of checking it is that future upgrades (Lr4 to Lr5) won't find the presets (because they will "look" only into the default folder), and you have to manually copy them. Apart from that the <Store Presets with catalog> has only one purpose: If you use two computers, have your catalog on an external drive that you swap from one computer to the other, and you want your presets to be available on both computers.
Apart from this scenario it serves no purpose and has only disadvantages. For more see here: http://www.lightroomforums.net/showthread.php?14169-What-is-the-purpose-of-the-quot-Store- Presets-with-Catalog-quot-optionhttp://

  • Export/import preferences configurations?

    greetings,
back in the olden days, before OSX, i used to save my systems configurations. for example, os9 and before, i could save my locations, printers, etc... i have both a desktop and a macbook pro, and at home a powerbook and a new MBPro and sometimes need to copy configurations between the computers. or on rare occasions, i've done a complete new install to avoid bugs between major os upgrades...
i've been looking for the ability to export some of my systems settings in OSX, but haven't seen a good way to do this... so i sometimes have to manually copy the configuration info from one computer to another. this would include network settings, printers, even things in apple mail prefs (yes i'll try another forum for that one)... but this is obviously a royal pain...
i did find an export option for network. but none for printers. the network pref export is grayed out. the system help states how to export, but doesn't give any clues about why the export option would be grayed out...
does anyone have any suggestions about either
1- this network export issue or
2- if there is any ability to export other preferences?
    thanks for any suggestions-
    jeffery

oh... that leaves a bit to be desired... too bad they haven't fully implement the ability to save/export all the configurations... that would be a helpful capability... think of all the "IT" departments, that would use such an options besides individual users...
you have a "noWhere" config too, presumably for a low power mode to conserve battery life... i'd guess a lot of laptop owners have a similar config... it might be a help if apple created a default "noNetwork" config since macbooks are such a large part of their base...
seems like a good time for some feedback...
    thanks for the info-

Without the error, I can't imagine a way to help you. ;)
Flash CS3 publishes to ActionScript 3.0, 2.0, and 1.0 just

It's a feature that we've been screaming about for several years, put it in the FCP Feedback folder, if youcan find it.
What you really want to do is export a reference movie and use a droplet that you create in Compressor. the small extra steps of locating the ref file and plopping it on the droplet are insignificant if you do this often. The Compressor droplet can be set to do all kinds of interesting and scriptable things.

  • How to export signatures and preferences

Hello, I am due to upgrade a number of laptops from 7 Pro to 7 Enterprise, so full format and re-build unfortunatley.  Is there any way to export the signatures used to sign docs out of Acrobat Pro?  I am told that current signatures will also need to work with existing docs that have been digitally signed.  Apologies my knowledge on this process is not 100%.
The users also have a number of preferences that will need to be retained and imported onto the new build.
    Your help is appreciated.
    Thanks

Some preferences can be found in this folder:
    C:/Users/<USERNAME>/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Acrobat/11.0/Preferences
But I don't think you can export most preferences, so take screenshots of the Preferences windows before formatting your hard-drive, just in case...
Regarding signatures: It depends on the type of signature.
Some signatures are just stamps, for example those that can be created via the Sign panel on the right. You will find them in the following path:
    C:/Users/<USERNAME>/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Acrobat/11.0/Stamps
Other signatures (digital IDs) can be exported by going to Edit - Preferences - Signatures, then click the More... button in the Identities & Trusted Certificates box and from there you could export the digital IDs in your computer as files.

  • Adobe CS5 Export Preferences

    Hello everybody!
Is it possible to export the preferences files in Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash and Acrobat of the CS5 package?
If I have to reformat my computer, these preferences have already configured when reinstalling the applications.
    Thanks.

Well, here we are in August and still have no answer.  From what I can see in a brief search, several people have asked this and none has received an answer.  What gives?

  • 8-bit settings won't save in preferences

I installed the Lightroom 4.1 RC on both a 64-bit and 32-bit computer yesterday.  Sometimes I want to send an 8-bit image to Photoshop when working with my 32-bit computer.  I have tried changing that option in the Lightroom preferences, but those output choices will not save on either computer.  I know, I can change in Photoshop.  But it's just one of those little annoyances that I noticed.  Has anyone else seen this?

    JimHess wrote:
Actually, there's an easier way to solve the problem than that.  Just convert to 8-bit in Photoshop.  I just ran across the issue yesterday and thought I would mention it.  Seems to me that in this new version of Lightroom wasn't quite as ready for prime time as it should have been.  I think I'm going to purchase it, but sometimes I wonder.
Actually this is probably one of the reasons the Adobe LR team has "locked down" (auto highlight recovery and black point adjustment) or automated (CA Removal) certain features in LR4. By doing so it makes it easier for LR beginners and other users who aren't "tech savvy" to get started, and helps prevent getting bad results by misusing certain tools. The External File Handling options lock down in LR4 Preferences is perhaps another example...I don't know.
If your intention is to continue to work on an image in LR after making edits in PS, then it's best to leave the file in ProPhoto RGB and 16bit mode. There are some who may argue on this point, but using a wide gamut color profile like ProPhoto RGB with 8bit/color is risking visible banding (i.e. wide gamut + fewer density steps). There's nothing stopping you from "converting" image files in LR to whatever format, color profile, compression and bit depth you want using the 'Export' tools.
Maybe I'm missing your objective with 8bit export to PS?

  • Sending from LR4 to Photoshop CS3?

Anyone have an idea how to get these two to work together?  The help file specifically mentions CS3 working with it and even mentions that CS3 will use ACR 4.6.  When I tell LR4 to open a RAW file produced by my Canon XSi in Photoshop, I get a message that "this version of LR may require camera raw 7.0 for full compatibility".  Then I can choose "render using lightroom", "open anyway", or "cancel".  If I choose "open anyway" it opens up Photoshop but nothing else happens.  Eventually after a few minutes LR4 starts telling me it couldn't open Photoshop (even though it "magically" opened it a few minutes earlier) and when I click off that error, it comes up again, then a new error saying it couldn't send the file to Photoshop.  After clicking away that message it then proceeds to make a copy of the file as a .psd (which I did set up in the LR4 preferences for external editor) and it opens up.  This is really confusing since as I said the Help file for LR4 says the following.......
In the Library module or Develop module, select the photo you want to edit. Then, choose Photo > Edit In Adobe Photoshop.
If you’re opening a camera raw or DNG file in Photoshop CS3 (10.0.1) or later, it opens directly.

Thanks Hal.  I guess the confusing part is I thought it was going to just automatically create the PSD file and send it over so I was really confused on why I was even getting a dialog in the first place.
I might just have to jump to PS Elements 10 or something if I want more compatibility later on.  I can't just update my CS3 version of photoshop because it's part of the Web Suite that I bought for dirt cheap while in school and that means I have to update to suite at about $900 or just flat out buy Photoshop on its own for $700.  I guess with Elements getting layers from what I saw, it might be a good choice for me.

  • Are preferences handled differently in LR5

I've noticed that LR5 seems to be occasionally triggering an error code in Windows 7 when I shut it down (I have it set to optimise and backup each time); it's not obvious to me that anything has gone wrong, but apparently Windows thinks it has! I encountered this once before a while ago with LR4, and found that the solution was to trash the preferences file and let it be re-built when LR was next launched. So I figured I'd do the same again, navigated to the correct folder (... users/roaming/adobe/preferences) and deleted the file. So far all seems pretty standard.
However, when I re-launched LR (doing so by double-clicking on the catalogue file as I have it saved in a different location than the default 'pictures' folder) it promptly re-built the preferences exactly as they'd been before: I didn't have to change a thing, other than re-connecting to a plugin. Last time I trashed the prefs in LR4, I had to set everything up again from scratch, right down to the width of the side bars. Somehow, even though I'd deleted the preferences file, it "knew" what my preference settings were.
Anyone have any idea how?? Seems as though the preferences are stored within the catalogue as well - but if they are, what's the point of a separate prefs file at all? This really doesn't seem to correspond with how I thought the preferences worked at all. I wonder if something has changed in how LR5 handles preferences?
**Edit: I had a further think about this... Currently, I still have LR4.4 installed as well, and therefore the preferences file for that is stored alongside the LR5 preferences file on my C drive (same folder). The LR4 preferences are essentially identical to those I have set in LR5 as I didn't need to change anything and they carried across when I installed it. The only thing I did change was the file location of my plug-ins... I therefore wonder if perhaps LR5 read the LR4 preferences file before creating a separate LR5 one? Perhaps the catalogue is still pointing to the old prefs file somehow? Maybe I need to delete the LR4 prefs as well in order to do a proper preferences re-set?

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond.  Printer drivers for Windows 7 have been installed correctly.  It doesn't matter what brand printers are involved.  The label printer is the one that has the smaller page size obviously -- brand can
be Cognitive, Godex or Zebra.  All respond the same way.  If you have the 8 1/2 x 11 printer set to the default printer but you want to print to the label printer about 5 or 6 labels spit out because it is trying to print 8 1/2 x 11 instead of 2.0
x 2.4.  It works the opposite way if the label printer is set to the default.  If you have the label printer set to the default it will print a tiny report on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper on the report printer.  In this example it is a Canon,
but it doesn't matter what brand the report/invoice printer is.  Keep in mind this is choosing the printer from Internet Explorer that you want to print to and even confirming that the printer preferences show correctly from the printer dialogue window
in IE.  This is using IE9 but it happens in 8 as well.  It DOES NOT happen in Microsoft Word, Chrome or Mozilla.  I just sent a 2.0 x 2.4 Word document to the label printer when the default printer was set to the Canon and it print just fine.
I also sent a regular size document to the Canon with the label printer (RT200) set as the default.  It also printed normal size.  A person should be be able to attach 2 printers to a computer and print to either one from Internet Explorer
and have it use the print preferences assigned to their chosen printer regardless of whether it is set as the default or not.  We developed our web-based application to use Internet Explorer so there are other issues that keep us from using another browser
--our customers are told that we only support IE, but if this doesn't get resolved we might have to change that.
Thank you for any help you are able to provide.

    Paul,
I'm the moderator here, and your response, in my opinion, was out of line. Daniel is a long-time vounteer here, and I see no evidence to suggest anything in your accusations.
In fact I would say your first post, made some rather egregious presumptions that your problem and that of harooki2 were the same, all evidence to the contrary. In his case he said that the type was visible in overprint preview, which categorically eliminates the possibility that it was set to non-printing in the attibutes panel. Though he might have phrased it better, Daniel was suggesting that had you followed the suggestion  to check overprint preview and reported that the text (or whatever) disappeared, the first suggestion that any of us here would have made would be to check the attributes for non-printing. In fact, that's precisely why he suggested that check in the first response to this thread, to eliminate that as a possibility and quickly establish how complex the problem is.
