Export mac mail to Thunderbird or Outlook on win 7

I have a user who is migrating to a windows, and I need to move his mail (specifically his sent mailbox) off of the mac and on to the win 7 machine.  I can use Outlook or Thunderbird on the win 7 machine, it's a new setup.  (Never used Thunderbird, but it looks  pretty nice!)
Any instructions?  My research assistant, Mr. Google, is remarkably silent on the topic!

Not automatically.  That you must do manually. But by doing so, you will ensure that anything on the server can be read directly by any computer with any e-mail application that knows your account settings.

  • Importing Windows Outlook 2007 email to Mac Mail using Thunderbird Workaround Looses Some Messages

After being away from using a Mac for 5 years I'm back with an iMac.
I found this workaround to import Outook 2007 emails to Mac Mail using Thunderbird on the PC http://www.trickyways.com/2010/08/how-to-transfer-emails-from-outlook-to-apple-m ail/
On the PC Thunderbird imports all my Outlook messages correctly and all are there.
Then when I import the resulting Thunderbird mailboxes to Mac Mail some messages are being lost. The directory structure for my mail folders imports correctly, just that some messages are missing.
There are earlier posts here saying Eudora Mailbox Cleaner worked for people but this wont run on Mountain Lion.
So has anybody got any ideas on how the get  all my Outlook e-mails to the Mac without losing anything?
What about software like Outlook2Mac, does it work fully or will I still have the same issue of some lost mail?
Can't believe I am having this problem migrating Window to Mac, you'd think it would work perfectly and not put people off from switching.
    Cheers.

Okay I slept on it and had a brain wave.
I set up iCloud Mail on Outlook 2007. Then copy messages from my Outlook Inbox to iCloud Inbox.
On the Mac copy the messages from iCloud Inbox to a folder On My Mac so they never get lost if I delete the iCloud account.
Playing about with it and it seems to work fine. Any reason why it could cause issues?
I love it when a workaround comes together!

  • Conflict between program Mac mail and program Microsoft Outlook e-mail???

Denmark, Kolding, 30th of September 2010
A conflict between program Mac mail and program Microsoft Outlook e-mail?
For several months tried to discuss and resolve with several Apple specialists/support, but without much luck.
Therefore I have discussed these issues with 2 different and independent Mac users to find out in testing other Mac users will have the same problems as outlined in the below mentioned situations.
I will therefore outline the coverage issues, as mentioned, including occurs on my iMac 21.5 " with serial number: <Edited by Host> and 2 friends with their Macbooks of new dates as follows:
    1. Sending from my Mac plain mail as "plain text "(during formatting):
Plain text mail as "Plain Text "(during formatting) Verdana font size 10, sent and received on Windows PC with the correct letter size - but with the font changed to Century Gothic!!!
    2. Sending from my Mac plain mail "formatted text" (during formatting):
Eg. with my signature/signature-colored types and Verdana as font and size 10, possibly with underlining and italics in the text dispatched - the mail received as text with New Times Roman size 12 and signing /signature color Verdana now in size 13.5!!!!
    3. Sending plain mail "as normal text "(during formatting)
In the mail text underlined and made bold - the program asks whether to convert to RTF format (to keep underlining, bold, etc.) and Verdana as font and size 10, YES - this mail is received on the Windows PC as text with New Times Roman with the desired underlining and bold text and size 12!!!!
    4. Plain text mail as "formatted Text"
Eg. with signature / signature-colored types and Verdana as font and size 10, possibly with underlining and italics in the text sent - received as text with New Times Roman and signing / signature as colored Verdana now in size 13.5!!!
    5. Sending mail with file attached:
After producing a normal text document modified to PDF and directly from the Adobe Reader sent this PDF file in e-mail formatted as normal text with font Verdana 10 point, with signature. This is received on the Windows PC with a PDF file OK, but the font of the mail text is changed to Century Gothic and missing signature. Signature is available as an attachment on the Windows Outlook e-mail program as a ATT00113.text file. This can be opened and there is the missing signature!
    6. Sending e-mail with photos directly from iPhoto
iPhoto opens and click on the desired photos eg. 5 pcs. (Exactly as mentioned in the demo video!) and click on the e-mail icon at iPhoto and the program opens and e-mail that is opened with the attached photos and rich text is being used in the mail. Signature disappears and must be clicked on the mail by the sender.
The mail is received with the attached pictures OK - text changed to Times Roman with the desired bold - though no signature and 5 pcs. Att0028.html files attached. These can be opened and contains the file number each picture!
The above problems can be partly avoided by the following:
    1. Only send mails as plain text
Without any underlining, attachments, etc.. When the Windows PC Outlook receiver opens the mail where only the text fond is changed!!
    2. Sending mail with attached file
Start opening the mail program and use formatted plain text first and then attach (with the staple) file, and the Window receiver will get the file, but text and signature changed to Times New Roman size 13!!
    3. Sending mail with photos from iPhoto
Start by opening mail program text in Verdana 10 and click the Photo Browser and find (look for - takes its time!) the pictures you want to send and pull/drag them into the mail and send, - images, text and signature are in the mail on Windows PC - but with the font changed to Century Gothic!!!
If sent as formatted text with various underlining, italics, etc. together with the photos will be received OK - but the writing is now New Times Roman size 12 signatures Verdana now in size 13!!!
I must say – I am disappointed with the Mac mail program – it actually means that sending a perfect mail with underlining, colours, a.s.o. also photos directly from iPhoto – will received at a Windows computer in a totally mess.
Looking forward to some good news from either Mac supporter or some clever Mac users who can help me to adjust my Mac to avoid these problems IF POSSIBLE!!!!.
Apple/Mac is too good a product to make these problems!!
    Best regards
    Peter Larsen

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The PC sets the font on its side, the Mac does on its side for plain text. There is no "font size" in plain text coding. Rich Text gives you a bit more control, but only if both e-mail clients support it. HTML gives you a bit more control, but only if both e-mail clients support it. Use the asterisk, parenthesis, underscore, or any keyboard symbol that is part of the original ASCII. Otherwise, the chance is nobody else will be able to read it who does not have your e-mail client in the same version.
Sadly there are no e-mail standards except MIME for attachment, and even that isn't universally supported. E-mail is not the ideal medium for anything except plain text that is ASCII. To learn more about ASCII, see:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASCII
If you want to post a website that is universally understood, see the hints here:

  • Attaching files crashes Mac Mail and Thunderbird

Just upgraded from Mountain Lion to Mavericks 10.9.3 on a 2012 Mac Mini 4 core.  When attempting to add an attachment to an email, both Mac Mail and Thunderbird start with the spinning beachball and never recover.  Force Quit is the only option.  Even after that, the Finder has strange screen artifacts left over from Mail (attach file dialog box) and Finder must be relaunched as well.
Dragging and dropping files works okay with Mac Mail.  This option does not exist when using Thunderbird, so no workaround available for that App.  Also, Mac Mail only gets stuck when attempting to attach files on the desktop.  Files from other locations attach OK.
Already tried Repair Permissions, Repair Disk, Reinstalled Mavericks with no change.  For now, I have gone back to Mountain Lion since this is a deal breaker, even though everything else seems to work ok (except for the occasional brief spinning beach ball).

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • How do I export mac mail signatures?

Since migrating from Mobile Me to iCloud I have noticed that the signatures (of which I have a few) in Mac Mail do not sync to my other machines. My question is, how can I export my Mac Mail Signatures to another machine?

    Close Mail in both machines.
In the computer where your signatures are, go to your user library (in OS Lion this is hidden, but you may access it by holding down the option (alt) key while clicking on "go" then you will see the library item in the list. Another option to access it is to go to finder, click on "go", select "go to folder" and paste this: "~/Library"
Once you are there, go to Mail - > v2 -> MailData
You will find a folder called "Signatures". Copy this folder.
Go to the same locatin in the other machine. Make a backup copy of the "Signatures" folder and replace it with the other machine's folder.
Open Mail and check everything is running.

  • Export Mac Mail message list as XLS, Numbers, CSV file?

I'm wondering if there's a practical way to export the message list in my Mac Mail inbox as a spreadsheet (e.g., XLS, Numbers, CSV &c)? I figured there must be a file of this sort in my mail library somewhere, but wasn't sure where to look. Any ideas, shortcuts, quick & easy answers? Thanks!

export bookmarks to a file, open this file in safari and enter command+I. You can of course simply attach the file to your message.

  • Can anyone tell me how to move my email addresses from Mac Mail to Thunderbird

    Hi all.
I've been having so many problems with Mac Mail that I decided to give Thunderbird v17 a go. It automatically imported my emails and account settings but hasn't imported my email addresses. I know they'll automatically be added as and when I reply to incoming emails but I assumed there would be some way of adding my existing contacts in one go. Searched the net for a solution but came up empty-handed. Any help you can give me will be much appreciated.

PRESS AND HOLD THE IMAGE IN THE EMAIL UNTIL THE OPTION TO 'SAVE IMAGE' APPEARS THEN TAP ON THAT.
See how annoying really large text is?  Don't do that next time.

  • How to export Apple Mail local folders to Outlook 2011

I just got Microsoft Outlook 2011 and need to import the (many) emails I have in local Apple Mail folders. What's the right way? I can't seem to drag the folders to the desktop (the way I can in Entourage 2008), and when I "archive" a folder, it makes a file (within a folder) that Outlook doesn't recognize as a valid MBOX file for import. What's the right way?
    thanks,
    Mike

Before you make the switch, you should consider reading about Matt Neuberg's experiences with Outlook 2011:
    http://db.tidbits.com/article/11696
After reading that, I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole.
I know; I don't like to depend on a Microsoft product but Entourage's way of keeping everything in a single Database file, which gets corrupted all the time (and corrupted worse when it is allowed to "Repair" it!) is making me nuts. I thought at least Outlook keeps everything separately. I don't like Mail (because I hate iCal and I like the way Entourage's calendar works together with its mail), and I don't know of an open-source client that handles Exchange server. I'm kind of stuck - maybe I'll stay with Entourage and let Mail keep my old Mail archives (I need to store everything for searching, and currently have about 20 Gigs of email). If there are any alternatives, I'd love to hear them.
    thanks,
    Mike

  • Merge Mac/Mail/IMAP and Dell/Outlook/POP

A friend called me with a problem that wads of her email were going missing from Mail.  After spending a while there it turned out that she uses email on 3 platforms
    MacBook Pro, Mavericks, Mail, IMAP
    iPhone 5, IOS7, Mail, IMAP
Her old Dell with Outlook and POP
She is using whichever system is handiest.
Now I know precious little about email but it seems to me that the missing Mail from the Apple platforms is ending up on her Dell because it's got POP.
Q1.  Does that seem about right?  It looks like the missing mail is there from a cursory scan.
Q2.  Assuming that's correct, is there a way to fix this: to get the mail off the Dell and on to her Apple systems?

Having slept on it, I wonder: Could this be solved by
creating an IMAP email account on the Dell alongside the POP one
copying the email subfolders from the POP account to IMAP
allowing this al to percolate via the server to the MacBook and iPhone
    Suggestions?

  • All old E-mails in Thunderbird lost after datachrash(Win 7), how to restore this?

    Hi,
My HP Laptop crashed , and a computer Company managed to retrive all data.
When I opened Thunderbird offline, all e-mail headlines where in, but it was not possible to open any e-mails. it was just trying to Connect.
When I Connected to the net, it syncronized, and all e-mails exxept the last 100 from 2015 (+ 1 from july 2014)
    disappeared.
How can I retrive my e-mails?
The New Thunderbird is set up as an Imap, but I am not sure about the old one..
    Thank You in advance,
    Regards
    John

Thank You Christ1 for Your reply,
They managed to recover mails, but it was only the headings. when I checked in offline mode, the e-mails didnt show, and when connected, they disappeared. I checked the files that they extracted, but there is no size big enouhgt on the files to be containing all emails..
Just spendt 2000 dollars on trying to fix and new LT, so...
I`ll have to try to download Ubuntu or similar and try to access old computer trough cd rom if it is possible.

  • UAG problems with OSX - same problem with Mac Mail and Outlook 2011 (via EWS)

    Hi folks,
I'm trying to fix the last snagging issue I have with OSX clients in a UAG / Exchange 2010 deployment:
When trying to connect Mac Mail or Outlook 2011 the connections are very slow to start up, both at initial config and thereafter.
On connection I see lots of the same error re Session Cookies in UAG and no connection in the mail client. If I leave it for a few minutes, sometime many minutes, the errors stop and I eventually get a working connection.
    The error is:
"Sesson Attempted to Access Restricted Application"
User with source IP address x.x.x.x  tried to access application Exchange EWS that was restricted that was restricted for the session. This might indicate an intrusion attempt by misusing the session cookie.
Has anyone got any suggestions on how to fix this ?
    Many thanks
    Steve

Ruud, no, we didn't find a solution, or rather our solution (so far) is to tell users not to use Mac Mail and to use Outlook 2011 instead, which seems to work fine (after some Office updates!)...and we haven't upset anyone with that requirement
    (yet).
There are some very long discussions on Apple support forums about the whole Mavericks / Mac Mail / Exchange 2010 issues.
I do hope to have another go at this problem sometime soon, I'm sure there must be a solution (and my money says it relates our hardware load balancers).

  • Mac Mail/Thunderbird/Yahoo mail inbox

Last week I had a problem sending mail. It was suggested that I try Thunderbird, which I did....and I could send mail again from both Mac Mail and Thunderbird... However I didn't figure out how to keep mail in Yahoo inbox. Today I had some trouble with sending to myself just to check to see if mail is going out.......so I checked on Thunderbird and it erased all incoming mail in Yahoo, my web mail. Should I just chuck the Thunderbird and see if I can keep mail in my Yahoo account? Thanks in advance. janie

You should be able to find account settings and then
server settings to do this -- see:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menudifferences_inWindows%
    2CLinux%2C_andMac
There will be a box to check to "Leave Messages on
    the Server".
In the server settings for smtp.att.yahoo.com did you
use the same authentication settings as in
Thunderbird? Did you use the same form of Username
entry in both the Incoming Server and Outgoing server
    settings?
    Ernie
Hi Ernie, I found the leave messages on the server and checked it. Originally when I started TB there was a "local folder" where all the incoming messages came. The original mail is still in the local folder. Now it comes to "Janie's folder" which only has 2 new messages there. Thats where the outgoing server setting controls. Should I move all the local folder mail into the janie folder, and delete or disable "local folder"?
The Mail settings are as follows set by ATT/Yahoo
Outgoing: Port 405, SSL is checked, Incoming: Port 110 SSL is not checked
On Thunderbird: Incoming port 110 default setting, Outgoing 25 default setting. No SSL on either.
I see that these are different for mail and tb. The entire email address is the user name for both accounts. Thank, Ernie

  • Mac Mail/thunderbird - not receiving gmail from just one user

I have an important correspondence with a particular person who uses gmail.  All of a sudden, none of his emails are being received by my Mac Mail on my domestic and work Macs and also on a RDC PC server using Thunderbird account set up identically.  Yet, I am receiving all my usual other correspondence (I think!).  He is now copying all correspondence to both my Mac Mail address and a separate gmail account address.  I receive all his correspondence on gmail. I have not found his e-mails in my Junk box.  Nor are they present when I search for his name.  I wonder if there is some setting he has to change on his gmail, or if there is something weird about the filters for both Mac Mail and Thunderbird that are screening out his e-mails, but permitting them on gmail.  I have tried to use my Mac Mail for all important professional correspondence and gmail just for commercial transactions and hence I habitually only screen Mac Mail.  Please could you help me troubleshoot this.  I assume it must have something to do with his gmails and not anything particularly specific with Mac Mail - but there may be a filter setting I need to change.

Graphics  AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB
Office computer is a MacPro running Snow Leopard

p.s.  Nothing unusual about the attachments - they are pdf and I can/have received numerous in the past from others with no problem.
