Export MOV files to MP3

Dear all,
I need to convert a movie file (MOV format) to an audio-only file (MP3 format). I've followed the tutorial on:
http://www.mango-design.net/2009/03/mac-converting-mov-files-to-mp3/
I believed it was very simple as explained in the document but instead I have 2 problems:
1) I haven't the 'Script Editor/Make New AppleScript' function under the 'services' menu (point 3 in the document). Can anyone tell me how can I add that menu?
2) Anyway, when I run the script directly with AppleScript Editor (point 1 in the document) I receive the following error:
"Expected end of line but found number."
I tried to solve the problem (I supposed It was simple, really not) in different ways without success.
I run on 10.6.2.
Could anyone help me?
Thank you in advance,
--Carlo
AppleScript:
set saveRef to (choose file name with prompt "Save audio track as AIFF" default name "untitled.aiff")
tell application "QuickTime Player"
export movie 1 to saveRef as AIFF
----------

Hi Oriolo,
You must [install QuickTime Player 7|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3678?viewlocale=en_US] and use it to run your script, as follows:
*set saveRef to (choose file name with prompt "Save audio track as AIFF" default name "untitled.aiff")*
*tell application "QuickTime Player 7"*
*export document 1 to saveRef as AIFF*
*end tell*

  • How to convert .mov files to MP3?

I am recording an entire book for someone who can't read. I'm using Quicktime Pro to do the recording. I want to burn a CD for her that she'll be able to play on any old CD player. How do I converrt the .mov files to MP3 or other usable format?

Itunes preferences > Advanced Tab > Importing Tab > Import Using Drop Down Menu
However as Kirk said it's pointless converting your files to mp3 if there going on to CD. This means you will compress the files, lose quality and they will then have to be reconverted to be burnt to CD. You would be better off exporting straight out of QT Pro as AIFF, this way you will not lose quality. You can then burn from iTunes toast etc no probs at all using this format.

  • Exporting .Mov files at 24fps for Final Cut Pro 5

I work at an animation production house and we're trying to export .mov files from QT 7.1.2 at 24fps so they won't have to be rendered in a FCP project which is a 720p project with a frame size of 1280x720, we're experimenting with two codecs. We're using Motion Jpeg A and Photo Jpeg, selecting 24fps but for some reason they import into FCP 5 at 10fps. It's as though QT isn't outputting accurate 24fps .mov files. When I export .mov files from FCP they import back into FCP without having to be rendered. What's the difference between the ones exported from QT vs. the .mov files exported from FCP. We're using the exact same settings and files....? The reason we need to use QT to do this is because it needs to be a somewhat automated process (lots of stills to work with) and our PA's are working on Windows with QT only.

You should post your inquiry at Final Cut Pro section for better support. Anyway, Final Cut Pro does not always recognize the frame rate correctly, depending on which application (and possibly which codec) you used to compress video. For example, Snapz Pro X and Adobe After Effects don't get along with Final Cut Pro in this respect. Furthermore, compressing video in H.264 will be a bad idea. So simply adjust the size of Canvas so that it won't cover the whole screen. In this way, you can even replay video on Canvas and even send it for final production.

  • Exported .MOV file is faded like the gain or saturation was turned down.

    Hi,
When I export a misic video as an .MOV file it is 1. extremely large and 2. faded like the saturation was reduced.
Does anyone have settings for exporting MOV files of a 3 minutes music video so that it will come in under 415 MB.
Could someone help me figure out how to compensate for the desaturation?

  • Exporting movie file from iPhoto

I have a Panasonic Lumix that takes both still photos and movies. The movies and still photos are transferred from the memory card to iPhoto. I would like to use some of the movie clips (.mov format) in an iMovie project. I transferred the movie files from iPhoto to an external hard drive by using the File > Export function. All appeared to go well. When opening the transferred file on the external hard drive, the file size is much smaller than one would expect and the cursor goes right from the beginning to the end as if it was a still photo. In the export function box, the "kind" options include original, current, JPEG, TIFF. I chose current. It does not give an option for file size. The movie file opens and works fine in iPhoto but not the same file transferred to the external hard drive. To make matters worse, I deleted many of the iPhoto movie files after transferring them to the external hard drive and so they are lost forever. Is iPhoto not designed to export movie files ? Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance

Is there any way to export an entire album of both movies and photos at once? I want to set the movies to export as original and the photos as JPEG, HIGH, with Metadata. Possible?
No. The export window will only take one set of criteria at a time.

  • How to slice a mov. file in .mp3

Hi, I'm responsible for publishing video talks from our conferences.
This has been working well in Final Cut Pro. Setting markers when speaker changes slides to create the xml file, exporting the talk into a .mov file, ... The fine result is to be found on www.parleys.com
Except that I now have 6 talks left without video of my speaker. I only have the audio.
What I'd like to do (and this is my question) is slice the audio - where the speaker changes from slide - in differernt mp3 files. Meaning: an mp3 per slide (audio). So one way or the other I have to be able to set markers and export these pieces into mp3. I used to do this with Sony Vegas, but now I'm working on a mac ;-))
Any idea how to do this? Or do I need to use SoundTrack Pro (which I don't know at all)?
    Urgent reply is highly appreciated.

Should be pretty easy. You can use markers in your audio clips and turn them into subclips and do a batch export or make subclips out of sections of the timeline and do a batch export. FCP doesn't have the ability to export as mp3's. But you can take the exported aiffs and bring them into itunes to convert to mp3's. I'm sure there are freeware/shareware utilities that will do this conversion (check out versiontracker.com). I use cleaner or sorenson squeeze both of which cost (but I already have them).

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 10 cant export mov files to QT h.264: export failure

    Hello,
I edited my project in Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and want to color correct it in Davinci Resolve Lite. I tried to export my mov files (shot on 60 D 1920x1080 25 fps) to QT h.264, so I can import them in Davinci. I have the same Problem when I want to export to uncompressed YUF 8bit.
The pc says something like: Failure during creating the file. Cant open or create the export file.
Is it a problem of the progamm? Is it impossible to export it in that codec ? Should I use another export codec ?
    Greets Stefan

    Hello,
Sry I didnt find any Premiere Elements in my selection, next time I post it directly here.
Im using a windows hp 7 64 bit, Adobe premiere elements 10, last version of Quick time and running an account with admin privilegs. I also opened the programm with admin power, just to see if anything happens, but still the same.
My camera films in 1920 x 1080 25p, so I guess its proogressive. For the audio I dont care if its 5.1 or mono, because my microphone is a mono microphone.
I made some pictures of my settings, sry all in german:

  • Need help exporting .mov files for editing in PE3

    hi,
i'm trying to export HD .mov files from an Aiptek GO-HD camcorder that seems to record in QT format with some funky codecs. I need to export it into a format that i can edit on a PC using Premier Elements 3.0. The few tests i've run have shown a huge increase in size when exporting from .mov to .avi (100m to 30 GB).
Does anyone have any suggestions or experience doing this?

You just need to open the .mov file with Elements.
You don't need to convert it using QuickTime Pro
    first.
Premiere may "convert" it to some other format to
allow editing (I don't know) and that would only take
    some time at import.
HD files are anywhere from 10 to 60 MB's per second
(some even higher) so a DV version will drastically
    increase in file size.
What, besides editing, is the goal of your work?
that doesn't work with this camcorder. apparently the encoding is called QT, but it really isn't. i have to export into something else in order to edit.
the goal of my work is to convert choppy family video into something clean that i can share with friends and family via CD / DVD (not streaming on net).

  • Cannot export movie files from iPhoto 11 (9.5)

Hi. Am not able to export movies from iPhoto 11. I leave the type as Original and get an error - see screenshot. Running on Mavericks and up-to-date iPhoto. Have tried to export to multiple places so hard drive space, etc. isn't the problem. Can export 32,000+ photos just fine but all the movies are erroring out.
Any ideas, and thanks for the help.

    Having the same problem.
Upgraded to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5, and now getting this, every single time.
Happens with both Original and Current exports. The failed files are all point to the Previews location. I checked the first few, which do exist, but are 0KB big. However their master file location is fine.
This ends up leaving 120GB out of my 170GB collection of 1533 photos/videos.
Incredibly frustrating! iPhoto is useless to me now, and I have no way to get my photos out of it.
Here's the exact feedback I sent apple:
    I'm experiencing this issue:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5478191?tstart=0
Since upgrading to Mavericks and getting the latest iPhoto version. I cannot export my entire photo collection (using original, and current settings).
It always fails with about 120GB of my 170GB collection left. The missing files are videos that iPhoto is trying to copy over the preview location, rather than the master location it seems. The discussion thread has more information.

  • Exported MOV file from Express - what do I compress it as for media???

I exported a MOV file from Final Cut Express. Looks great. Now I need to send it to broadcast - CNN, NBC, etc.
What format should I compress it with Sorenson Squeeze 6? I've tried different presets but want to know what's the best one to use. Please help. Need responses ASAP.

I'm sorry, I meant to write you have to ask the broadcasters what they want. They can have a lot of very different demands.
This is also very dependent of what your material is. Fine, you exported to QuickTime Movie, but what did you export. HD? SD? What specification? If you don't know, open the file in the QT player and report exactly what it says in the movie inspector.
You can put anything on a big enough FTP server provided you have the time and a wide enough pipe. It's probably going to be a really big file or files so you'd better have a really fast connection and/or a lot of time. Sometimes FedExing a drive is faster.

  • 2 probs. No controls available 4 Keynote exported mov files, can't combine

I have 2 problems. I created several .mov files using Keynote 08 via the export function in Keynote. I am able to open and play these files in QT Pro however I cannot view the control bar with the Play, FF, RW, etc buttons that you get when you click on File>New Player. Does it have anything to do with the fact that the mov files were created in Keynote? I cannot imagine that this would be the problem.
The other problem is that the only reason I have multiple mov files that were created in Keynote was due to the fact that it was the only way I could get the audio to be in sync with my slides, and this was the suggestion of Apple Tech Support. So, I created 8 different Key files, exported them all to mov files and now want to combine them using QT Pro (or I would use iMovie if it would let me).
Can anyone help me with these issues? Thanks in advance.
    Craig

I am trying to use the controls in Quicktime that you are telling me are disabled since I exported from Keynote. Perhaps if I explain the motivation, you may be able to better understand what I am trying to accomplish. I have 8 mov files I created in Keynote. The reason I spit them to 8 was based on a recommendation from an Apple Tech Support guy. My audio was not syncing up with my slides and he explained that it was due to system resources not being sufficient (RAM) and that by splitting them, I could export them to Quicktime and put them back together in Quicktime. So, I am trying to put them together into 1 file that I can make into a podcast. So, when I tried to merge them together in Quicktime, since I had no controls, I couldn't figure out how to place the 8 mov files in the correct order.
Hopefully this will make some sense to you and you will be able to offer some advice.
    Thanks again!

  • Problems viewing exported .mov file from Mac for viewing on PC

I am working with a reporter who has a PC at home while I am editing a video for her using FCE 4.1 on a MacBook Pro, using HD footage from a Canon Vixia HF20 AVCHD camera. I burned a draft of the video we are working on for her to look at on her home PC, exporting the FCE project as a straight .mov file. But she could not view it on her PC even though she has viewed .mov files on her computer in the past (but this is the first time she has tried to look at .mov file exported from FCE on a Mac). What might the issue here be? Do I need to export the file in a different way? Might she have an older version of Windows Media Player or be unable to view certain versions of .mov files on her computer? Should I hand it off to her instead as an .mp4 file? Any help much appreciated.
    Douglas

You'll need to copy the Apple HDV Codec to your MacBook. Since it won't be Intel native (unless you get FCP 5.1) you'll have to force QuickTime Player to run in Rosetta; it should be a setting in the Get Info window for QT Player. You should then be able to view the video (though I haven't tested this myself).
    Hope this helps.

  • Having Trouble Exporting .mov files

Hi, I've been trying to export a lossless quality .mov file of a presentation I shot a couple weeks ago. It's about 3.5 hours long and is being an absolute pain. It takes over 8 hours for it to export the quicktime animation file, and then it ends up being around 250gb which is way way wayy to big! The files I put into the timeline only add up to 21 gb, why is it doing this? Even when I used an h.264 codec, the file is still around 100gb and it took 12 hours to encode!! Can somebody please help me with this? I need to get this footage to the company I shot for. Thanks!
    Export settings
    Quicktime Animation
    Quality 100, 1280x720, 29.97 fps, progressive

    > and then it ends up being around 250gb which is way way wayy to big! The
files I put into the timeline only add up to 21 gb, why is it doing
    this?
Losslessly compressed files are huge. That is an unavoidable fact. 250GB is an unsurprsing size for a 3-hour movie that is losslessly compressed. The fact that your input files were 21GB has nothing to do with it. Those files were heavily compressed.
What is your client asking from you? It seems unlikely that they're asking for losslessly compressed file for delivery. Are they asking for something for playback? What are their delivery specifications?

  • Quicktime 10 won't play FCE exported .mov files?

I have edited several videos using Final Cut Express and exported them as .mov files to my desktop. Now, because I have a small internal hard drive (128GB SSD), I copy all of my raw footage to an external hard drive and then delete the files from my Mac HD. But, I keep the finished videos on my desktop. When I try to play the video while the hard drive is plugged in, QuickTime opens and plays the video just fine. But, when the external hard drive is NOT connected and I try to play the video (from my Mac HD), QuickTime won't open it nor play it. If I absolutely have to, I will carry the external HD around with me so I can play my videos, but I was just wondering if it had to do with the codec (H.264) my OS (10.6.8) QuickTime X or FCE (4.1). Can anybody help me?

    Can anybody help me?
At this point one can only make guesses as to a solution since you have not really provided any useful information.
I have edited several videos using Final Cut Express and exported them as .mov files to my desktop.
For future reference, an MOV file is any compressed data in an MOV file container. Data can be any compression format compatible with the system configuration on which the file was made—to include both Apple QT native compatible codecs and "Pro" app installed codecs to third party codecs like WMV, DivX, XviD, MPEG-2, etc. In order to eliminate codec problems, in the future please indicate the specific codecs involved.
This would normally be the playback description of a "QT Reference" file. Basically, a reference file is a very small/quickly created file that tells the player to play data that is actually contained in one or more other files. However, since the reference file cannot be played if the main data file(s) are not accessible (i.e., when the external drive is disconnected), you should also be getting an error message telling you it cannot find referenced data and you have yet to confirm this here.
If I absolutely have to, I will carry the external HD around with me so I can play my videos, but I was just wondering if it had to do with the codec (H.264) my OS (10.6.8) QuickTime X or FCE (4.1).
Once again, since we don't know what form of compression was used or what settings were used, it is impossible to determine if there are any secondary problems to be delt with here. In most cases, a high date rate/low compression format is used for import/editing purposes and the final file is "exported" to a specific compression format depending on its specific target use. In most cases, H.264/AAC is the best compression format for "distibution" since it has a very wide range of settings which allow you to adjust the file size and quality aspects to suit any specific device or target use and to do so as a "standalone" (re-compressed) files which are independent of any data in source/other files.

  • Exporting .mov file from CS5.5 Premier Pro for playing through QuickTime Player

    Dear All,
I would most appreciate any assistance on a problem that I am experiencing with a current project.
I have a HD1080i50 project which I have completed editing. The work consists of two video tracks on top of a black video track that presents two identically sized images side by side that run con-currently. To achieve this presentation I have solely reduced the scale of the clips to 44% and then positioned them side by side. After rendering, within Premier, the playback is exactly as I want it and the imagery is sharp and clear. The problems occur when I either try to export the project as a mov. file (to play using Quicktime), or when I export to Encore and produce a DVD. In both cases, the audio is fine but the imagery is slightly blurred.
In the first instance, would someone be kind enough to recommend the optimum export codecs to creat a .mov file for playing through QuickTime?
To date, with earlier projects, I have not experienced this problem. I am obviously doing something wrong in the export settings process and would appreciate it greatly if anyone can advise. Should more info on the project be required to respond, I am happy to provide it.
    With thanks in advance.

In the first instance, would someone be kind enough to recommend the optimum export codecs to creat a .mov file for playing through QuickTime?
Sure, but we need to know what you intend to do with the file. Is it for distribution? Archiving? Watching on a computer, or watching on the web? Do you absolutely need to have a QuickTime MOV? There are many variables, not the least of which concerns the exact specifications of your sequence and the footage you're using in the sequence.
To make a better recommendation, some more information is needed.
