Export movie to blu-ray in Final Cut

I'm having trouble creating a usable file for burning a Blu-ray. I'm using Final Cut X and OS 10.10.2

We need more information.
What are your system specs and setup (including burner)?
Your media format?
Your project settings?
Are you using the Share>Blu Ray workflow?
What happens when you try to create a file – and do you mean disk image?
Any error messages?

  • Export to Blu-ray from Final Cut Pro 7 with LG BE12LU30 External Blu-ray

    Hi all
I've got an iMac with Snow Leopard and I'm editing HD video in Final Cut Pro 7. I've created AVCHD discs on DVD to play in my Blu-ray player but now I want to create Blu-rays that will play in a regular Blu-ray player.
Has anyone got any experience of using the LG BE12LU30 External Blu-ray Re-Writer with FCP 7? I've checked other posts and it seems one user has had success with an earlier LG Model.
Basically if I connect this drive and use the Final Cut Blu-ray export option in share, will I be able to burn a playable Blu-ray?
Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi I have one of those drives too .. I use FCP to edit export the movie using 'current settings' and then import that movie Compressor .. alternative I also have Toast with the Blu-Ray plugin .. it gives a nice menu template and works well. http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/toast/plugin/overview.html

  • Blu-Ray in Final Cut works well but,

    Hello Folks,
I burned a Blu-Ray disc of a 17 min movie. It worked and looked great however I noticed when I changed the speed or the direction of the video in Final Cut, it burned to Blu-Ray pretty poorly. (Jumpy, slight freezes, etc)
Any suggestions to stop this problem or work around it? Thanks,
    jer

oh wait wait wait. I'm thinking of a different JVC camera, then.
That's the one that shoots XDCAM. Never used it. Sorry.
The shots that you're doing speed changes. Try the method Rienk brings in on this thread about 3 posts in:

  • Creating 1080p Blu-Ray with Final Cut Pro 10.0.7?

The latest version of Final Cut Pro (Vers 10.0.7) seems to share to Blu-Ray disk only at 720p resolution (1280X720) - not 1080P (1920X1200).  I know you can always use Compressor to create a 1080p Blu-Ray, but is there any way to create a 1080p Blu-Ray disk directly with Final Cut Pro?  It seems to me I was able to do this with earlier versions of Final Cut Pro X.

If you do a 1080 project @24fps or 29.97fps, FCPX will output 1080 frame size using the Blu-Ray settings. If you use Share >BD for either 720 or 1080 @ 60fps, it will choose the 720 resolution.
I have no idea whether this was always the case.

  • Exporting .Mov files at 24fps for Final Cut Pro 5

I work at an animation production house and we're trying to export .mov files from QT 7.1.2 at 24fps so they won't have to be rendered in a FCP project which is a 720p project with a frame size of 1280x720, we're experimenting with two codecs. We're using Motion Jpeg A and Photo Jpeg, selecting 24fps but for some reason they import into FCP 5 at 10fps. It's as though QT isn't outputting accurate 24fps .mov files. When I export .mov files from FCP they import back into FCP without having to be rendered. What's the difference between the ones exported from QT vs. the .mov files exported from FCP. We're using the exact same settings and files....? The reason we need to use QT to do this is because it needs to be a somewhat automated process (lots of stills to work with) and our PA's are working on Windows with QT only.

You should post your inquiry at Final Cut Pro section for better support. Anyway, Final Cut Pro does not always recognize the frame rate correctly, depending on which application (and possibly which codec) you used to compress video. For example, Snapz Pro X and Adobe After Effects don't get along with Final Cut Pro in this respect. Furthermore, compressing video in H.264 will be a bad idea. So simply adjust the size of Canvas so that it won't cover the whole screen. In this way, you can even replay video on Canvas and even send it for final production.

  • HD Video to Blu Ray in Final Cut Express HD

Would like to be able to print HD video to Blu Ray, but not aware of any solutions currently offered by Apple. Are any in the works and if not, what seems to be the best 3rd party solution to achieve this?

Check out the link below and particularly the additional link within where you will learn how to create Bluray discs using your regular redray DVD burner on standard DVD discs, no bluray involved.
This works if the Project is 20 mins or less. You do need Toast 10 or 11, I think 9 may also work plus the Bluray plugin for Toast. Usually you get the plugin with the later versions but check this before you purchase.

You can of course invest in a Bluray burner and use Blurary discs giving you longer record times.
My burner is an external Mercury Pro from Other World Computing. Works just fine.

  • Exporting 1080P25 to Blu-Ray

I'm working on a film shot in 1440*1080p25, and I'll eventualy want to put it on Blu-Ray disc. In Premiere, when I look at Export > Media > MPEG2 Blu-Ray, 1080p25 is not listed, but 1080i25 is. Also in the booklet for my camera (Canon HV30) it says 1080p25 is recorded as 1080i50. Does this mean I'll be able to export 1080p25 to Blu-Ray using the 1080i25 setting?
    Tim

This is very depressing! I've got lots of questions now:
1/ If I export this 1080p25 film using the 1080i setting in the Media encoder, will it convert my 1080p footage to 1080i?
2/ I know there is 30% less vertical definition (a deliberate blurring to avoid line flicker) with 1080i than with 1080p (which is why I used 1080p in the first place), but is this blurring introduced at the record stage (by the camcorder), or is it added later? (if the former I'll lose no definition by converting it to 1080i).
3/ My camera booklet says it records 1080p as 1080i, so surely the 1080i setting in the Media encoder will accept it? After all 1080p is simply 1080i with both fields identical?
4/ What about converting to 1080p24?
5/ If all above fails, how can I get 1080p25 onto disc or some other medium so that it can be copied, shown in public, etc?

  • Exporting to HD Blu ray

I've got a broad question and then something more specific.  Can anyone point me to a place where I can find a good, ground-up tutorial for the intricacies of video encoding via Premiere Pro?  I can appreciate the power of this program but I am a bit overwhelmed by the number of options when it comes to exporting, among other things.
In particular, I have an MP4 that is OLD.  I was able to import it into PP5 and then export under the Blu Ray option.  However, my PC won't play it.  Is there any way I can view what I exported?  What should I expect in terms of quality for a video like that?  It was a huge file, as expected, but I can't see how it looks right now.  Is there an Adobe product or 3rd party product that would allow me to watch it?

Try outputting it as a MP4 or M4V
If Final Cut won't output it, Mpegstreamclip will convert it. So will Quicktime if you have the pro version.

  • New Canon EOS Movie Plug-in-E1 for Final Cut Pro

Just thought your would like to know. From canonrumors.com
    http://www.canonrumors.com/2011/04/canon-updates-e1-plugin-for-fcp/
Canon today announces the latest update for EOS Movie Plug-in-E1 for Final Cut Pro – the company’s custom-developed software application that provides quicker and easier editing of EOS Movie footage in Apple’s Final Cut Pro software suite.
Launching to coincide with the start of the 2011 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show in Las Vegas, EOS Movie Plug-in-E1 for Final Cut Pro version 1.2 will make the importing of EOS Movie files even easier, allowing users to transfer files from any folder, without needing to mirror the folder structure on the camera itself.
The update also enables smoother importing from Canon’s EOS 7D, EOS 5D Mark II and EOS-1D Mark IV models, allowing users to import footage without requiring the THM file generated by the camera.
Originally launched in February 2010, EOS Movie Plug-in-E1 for Final Cut Pro is designed to quickly and seamlessly convert EOS Movie footage from Canon’s leading range of EOS DSLR cameras to Apple’s high-quality ProRes 422 codec. The plug-in allows users to convert footage at approximately twice the speed of Apple’s standard conversion, creating a smoother workflow for the rapidly growing number of videographers shooting HD video content on DSLR cameras.
EOS Movie Plug-in-E1 for Final Cut Pro version 1.2 will be available to download for free from 25th April 2011.

And I just spent over an hour yesterday explaining to a client how utterly essential it was to maintain the exact folder structure for proper log & transfer:/
If I say that once a day to students, I say it a thousand times.
On top of that I just started Carbon Copy Clone today with all my updates in my editing lab. Not the end of the world but it's a little time consuming on 80 stations. Oh well.

  • Are microsoft movie maker files compatible with final cut pro files?

I would like to know if microsoft movie maker files are compatible with Final Cut Pro?
    Thanks,
    elemir

depends on how you're outputting. .wmv I don't think so.That's pretty much a dead end format.  mp4 might be, but i'm not sure if movie maker outputs them. .avi might be, depends on the codec used.
Avoid .wmv, apple products don't play well with that format (never have) and aim for some other output type. Then on your mac, if you don't already have it, if you don't already have it, get the free converter mpegstreamclip and see if it can convert your movie maker output into something final cut will input. DV files are good, as are .mov files.

when I import a Quick Time movie into the timeline using Final Cut Express, why does it need rendering?

Because your clip properties do not match your sequence settings.
It will help a lot if you provide details ...
    FCE Easy Setup
Sequence settings (vid rate, frame size, compressor)
Source of your clips (camcorder make/model, etc)
