Export movies to camera

How do I export movies from Imovie to my Camera

Hi
You don't - At least I can not do this since iMovie HD6 which was the last one that had this function.
In FinalCut this has worked till now - If it still exist in FinalCut Pro X is out of my knowledge - but I doubt in regard to how iMovie and FCE/P has evolved.

  • Lose sound exporting movie to camera.Scene selection problem

Dear friends, thank you for your time!
    I have 2 painful questions!
1-I have Macintosh G5. New! I can't export my edited movie back to camera with sound of music that I add to my movie. Sound of shooting is there but not an additional track of music from CD
2-I tried to burn a DVD, but I can't split my movie into parts. It is a wedding, and I want separate parts of the wedding-ceremony, reception, blessing... I used chapters markers in iMovie program, but in DVD project it is going like that: Ceremony and everything after that, next scene is reception and everything after that, next scene is interview and everything after that. Something small is missing, that I do not understand. How do I end each chapter so it does not run on?
    Thank you!

    Hi Vera
    My main guess.
There is a factor if the sound is recorded with 12 bit or 16 bit in the Camera.
Many Cameras are factory preset to 12 bit sound (to make it possibly to
add sound directly in the Camera - for those without a Mac)
Change this with the menu on Your Camera and try again.
This is of Course if the sound is OK in iMovie. Play to the end of Your project
and be very observant on the sound at the end part of it.

  • I have exported movies from old digital camera - how do I ensure it goes into the correct year (eg. 2005)  Thank You

Some exported movies from old digital have gone into the incorrect year.  How can I move them around into the correct year or at the very least move them in the current year but in chronological order eg under 2011 I have listed them as 2004 - blah blah, 2005 blah blah but they are "all over the place".  Thank You

There are two ways to do this.
The simplest is to right-click on the clip in the Event and modify the date.
    See iMovie Help here http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3ac6c398
If you have a long clip that you would like to split into smaller clips, there is another way. You can drag the long clip into a free tool called MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5. In MPEG Streamclip, put your playhead on the in point of your first smaller clip and type I. Then set the playhead on the out point of your first smaller clip, and press O to set the out point. Then FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME. If your clip is DV, As you save the clip, rename it in the form clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss.ext, where the word "clip" must be lower case. YYYY is year. hh is hours in 24 hour time.  Then repeat this process until you have all your smaller clips made. Finally, you can import all these clips into an iMovie Event using FILE/IMPORT MOVIES.

  • Exporting back to camera

have created an imovie (17mins) which seems fine, but now that I'm trying to export it back to tape in the video camera (which I've done previously without a problem), the recording is stuttering and incomplete. Any suggestions?

    Hi MsDella,
Another method, which I've used successfully numerous times, is to use the playback to camera preference - rather than exporting/sharing to camera.
To achieve this, go to the menu iMovie>Preferences, select the Playback tab then check the box "Play DV project video through to DV camera". Press record on the camera and the Play arrow (or space bar) in iMovie. The movie should play smoothly in iMovie and be recorded perfectly on the camera.
The only disadvantage that I'm aware of is that iMovie does not control the camera - you have to do this manually. Otherwise the result is perfect. I've used the same method to transfer movies directly to my stand-alone external DVD Recorder which has a Firewire IN socket. The model is Pioneer DVR-310.
Now that I have an iMac G5 with superdrive, I use iDVD (with its great themes) to burn DVD's, but still use the playback to tape feature for recording back to the camera.

  • Exporting Movie Settings - HELP!

    Hello
I'm creating various movies on iMovie '08 and intend to burn them to DVD using iDVD. Once they are ready to be exported...what options are best to choose (bearing in mind I want to burn these to DVD). Is it best to choose 'Export Movie', or 'Export using QuickTime' ??
What is the best file format and video compression settings to choose? I really want a good quality finish when played back on DVD.
Hope this make sense and you can help!
    Regards!

    Hi
+what options are best to choose (bearing in mind I want to burn these to DVD)+<</div>
If You use miniDV tape material or interlaced material then iMovie'08 or 09 are not the tool at all due to that it trashes every second line.
I would use iMovie 1 to HD 6 or FinalCut Express or Pro.
How to export any good quality from iM08 or 09 is to others to explain.
    *BUT on DVD quality*
    1. iDVD 08 & 09 has three levels of qualities.
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality (movies up to 120 min.) - BEST
    • Best Performances (movies less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    2. From
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not selfcontaining, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly eg x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09 this can also be set)
This can also be done with (Apple) Disk Util tool.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc).
    5. Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVD at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while befor next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on.
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JESDeinterlacer3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are plabacked by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choise before Pro Quality)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
(x4 by some and may be even better)
    2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
    Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
    1 = US
    2 = EU

  • What's the best settings to Export movie for smaller file sizes?

Hi, I've been working on some helmet cam footage which was taken with Xvidmpeg4.avi and was advised to convert it to dvavi for editing in PrE, this created a huge file to work with, the original footage was 206mb and the finished edited dvavi file is now 1.56gb, what settings can I use to export the movie with a much smaller file size, but hopefully try to retain some quality, to upload to places like Vimeo? I thought I would try to export it in the same as the original footage Xvidmpeg4.avi thinking this might compress it again to something like the 206mb of the original and the original was good quality footage, but PrE just hangs up with a box stating 'Xvid Status (Not Responding)' and when I try to cancel that the whole thing crashes and closes? So when I go to File > Export > Movie, what would be the best settings in:
    General > File Type ?
    Video > Compressor
lots of options under compressor if I select the file type as Microsoft AVI, so I'm guessing something under that would compress it to a smaller file size but what, I could spend all night trying different settings so hoping for some advice?
Or, if I'm completely in the wrong place for the settings and should be doing something else please tell me?
    Thanks, Gav

Thanks for the replies, but to me it's still confusing - simply because there are so many settings, if I go to Share/Personal Computer I'm then presented with a whole load of settings
    NTSC Flash Video
    MPEG
    DVAVI
    Windows Media
    QuickTime
and under each of those is a lot more advanced settings?
I'm guessing I wouldn't use flash or quicktime, so which of the others would I use and what are the advanced settings to use as I can't find anything that is .wmv or .mov
What I've done with other videos that I've exported from PrE as dvavi is then to put it through Windows Movie Maker, Publish Movie, This Computer, then put the settings to Windows Media DVD Quality (PAL) (3.0 Mps) - this seemed to be the only setting that reduced the file size considerably but still had good quality, but it's still about twice the original file size?
This all seems long winded to me, open original file, convert original file, output another file, then output the file again in something else which then results in loss of quality and a larger file than the original? I'm ending up with lots of files, was hoping just to edit in Premiere then export/publish that edited clip and that would be it, then upload to the net.
Is it not possible to just edit my original footage and save it, just like you would with something like a word document, should I be using something else and not Premiere?
    Thanks.

  • Motion 5 crashes when trying to export movie

I'm having troubles with motion 5 exporting a composition.
I bought it 10 days ago, and since the first day I couldn't use the option share/Export Movie or Export selection to Movie.
With both options the application crashes immediately.I also tried exporting a project which conisted on the word Hello only, in Helvetica font. And it crashed too.
I managed to export the first composition through Share/Apple Devices, which took 3 hours for a composition of 1 minute and a half.
I contacted apple and they guided me on how to trash motion 5 and related files and re download it from the apple store, which I did, and the export movie option keeps crashing as before,
Now, I'm exporting another project, again through share/Apple devices, and it elapsed 3 hours and 45 minutes, whithout reaching a third of the rendering, meaning, it would take almost 12 hours to export!
I learnt motion with motion 4 and it never took more than 10 minutes to export.
I'm letting the program run until it exports it, but 12 hours is really a long time, plus a lot of stress for my computer, and I won't be able to work on more than 1 project a day.
I don't have any other related programs in this computer, meaning no Final cut studio , nor Final cut pro X or Compressor 4.
Has anyone had the same problem?
I'm working on a Macbook Pro 15 inches, i7, with 8gb of ram
thanks in advance for your help.

Here is the solution, someone passed it to me in another discussion
I have found the answer to the "Export Movie" crashes in Motion 5 and FCPX! One or more third-party QuickTime components in the Library/QuickTime folder is/are the scurrilous culprit(s).
Follow this link for more info by the very wise dude who figured it out:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3177523?start=0&tstart=0
I got no love (or help) from any Apple Support personnel, even after multiple crash reports, but the Apple users community still came to the rescue! Huzzah!

You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • Export movie on iMovie lossless

Anybody knows how to export AVCHD movies lossless, I mean without conversion when you are exporting movies. I am converting AVCHD (mts) to mov before import.
The iMovie is the latest version, 11.
    Luiz

In fact, the final video edited is for my personal file,. I took many movies from HD camera, edit them, and have one final file edited. I used to do this process with PMB (Sony software) which does the edition in perfect way: you can cut or join parts of video without any kind of conversion or loss. Unfortunatelly it works only in Windows plataform.
I really don't know how they didn't release this software for Mac. It is too sad having a Mac and be impossible to edit AVCHD without quality loss.
I am wondering to install Paralles and Windows, just to be able to do this lossless (very disappointed).

  • Import/Export Movies

    Hi all:
I have an AVI clip off a Canon G7 Digital Camera.
When I import into Premiere CS4, the info. says 640x480(1.0), 26+12, 30 fps. I matched the setting on the Sequence.  However, when I export to Windows Media, Quick Time, etc., the speed of playback is very slow, and I don't hear sound.
I suspect I have problem with my import / export setting.
What setting should I use for New Project, New Sequence, & Export movie?
       Thanks,
       Franco

You may need to convert the file before importing it into PPro successfully.
    Cheers

  • Trouble with exporting movie

    Hey all,
I've started to use iMovie only few days ago on my iPhone 5C 16GB. After some time i got familliar and i used to it so i made a movie (containes many shorter movies) about 33 minutes. There is a plenty of options to share the movie, but for me would be the best solution to export it in camera roll. The problem is that I didnt have a much free space, but for 720p video was quite enough so it started exporting, it was almost done (i thought it was) and then appeared the message that there is not enough free space. I wouldnt be angry with that, but there happened something what made me mad.
Before the exporting was my free space 3GB, after unsuccesful exporting only 689MB?!?!
How is that possible when the video didnt export, didnt appear in camera roll? I cant find it anywhere and my memory is almost full. What could I do with that issue if I dont want to loose the project?
I need the video to be exported but now there is no chance with so small free space. Only way to gain some space would be by deleting that partial videos which are contained in the project. If I delete them, my project would be lost.
PLEASE HELP ME, I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR ME.
    THANKS A LOT
    Lukas

Ok I solved my problem i exported the project (i needed to lower the resolution and crop a big portion of movie clips but never minds..it worked)
BUT...i have made another project, contained of similar movie clips and audio files than the previous, NOW i get another issue - ERROR OCCURED WHILE EXPORTING...what is please this? I ve searched the web, forums, everywhere was written only about privacy settings, which I cant check because in iOS7 there is no iMovie button in Photos privacy settings...
I got plenty of free space now for exporting, and happens everytime neither 1080p nor 320p...still the same issue, without any explanation of problem..
Please anybody..I am totally frustrated after so much time spent with imovie...and i like that app...but this issues make me very angry.
    THANKS TO ANY RESPONSE

  • IMovie for my iPad and iPhone will not export movies how do I fix this?

iMovie for my iPad and iPhone will not export movies how do I fix this?

Same here. Have exported a handful of movies before..faced this issue for the first time a few days ago. What footage are you trying to edit and export? (E.g. Shot with camera app, other social media apps like Snapchat, Vine, Instagram?)
    I did some troubleshooting..
I was putting together all saved videos from Snapchat.. no luck. Export screen comes up, but progress bar doesn't move.
Mixed some footage in there shot with actual iPhone camera app.. no luck.
Removed all Snapchat footage.. it worked straight away.
BUT ... it would make sense if I didn't just compile a bunch of Snapchat vids a few weeks ago and export them just fine?
So it's something to do with the actual footage I assume?

  • Canon HG10 - Export Movie Error -2125?

    HI,
My workflow is basically, Plug in camera, import the clips from hdd (which takes ages since it converts from AVCHD to Apple lossless and takes up much more space than the original movie) - I drag and edit the clips to make a small movie then choose export video and set the quicktime options to 720p - it sits there quite happily spending hours rendering the movie and promptly quits with an error code, why does iMovie doe this, and is there any way to actually export from iMovie 08 at least HD content? (after all it DID import HD content....)
    -M

I have the same error. Tried everything. The project is quite large, so I tried to split it in smaller parts and then sharing to external HD via QT or just export movie with default settings as "large". After ~300 minutes (that is, in fact, 5 hours for just one part) of exporting it says that it could not export the movie due to error -2125. That error number should mean something, shouldn't it? Something to give a clue what is wrong (with me apparently)...
And, no, iMovie 06 will not work either, because it does not support that sony camera.

  • Exporting movie I get a smaller video enclosed into a black frame

I don't understand why, when I make "export movie" for a clip in motion, I get always a smaller video enclosed into a black frame...
    What I miss??

I know you're talking about Motion 5 - I'm trying to find out if you still have Motion 4 (or earlier) installed?
Ok - those look like export settings, and I don't have any of the ones you list after Uncompressed — interesting. What I'm talking about are the Project Presets (Motion > Preferences > Presets pane)
All the presets with the lock icons are the defaults and that last one is a custom preset I made for 30fps.
Anyway - I had that same problem of the black border around exported video in Motion 4 and I believe Motion 5 will share the presets from Motion 4 if you had it installed at some point. The black border, from what I understand, was supposed to be a region of "overscan" that is typically used in television broadcast and would not have been seen over broadcast. Motion 5 doesn't seem to add the overscan which is what is leading me to suspect that Motion 4 is involved still. So, if you did have Motion 4, try going to:
    ~user/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Studio/Motion/Presets/
and zip the Project folder to back it up, and toss the Project folder in the trash. Restart Motion 5. You will lose your custom presets in Motion 4, but for some reason, trashing the old presets folder fixed other issues with Motion 5. If that doesn't work, you can restore the old presets.
I just ran a test out of motion 4 with Broadcast HD 1080/60i preset and the Info I get back in quicktime is:
You can see where the format is 1920x1080 (1888x1062) actual size in parentheses. I did the same test in M5 with the broadcast HD 1080 preset and it came back 1920x1080 actual... I guess you can draw your own conclusions. And, I may not know what the **** I'm talking about!!  Since Apple Pro video apps use Core Video, it might just be an OS thing, so maybe you should consider which OS you're running as well. It's been at least a couple of years since I had to deal with the problem. My workaround in Motion 4 was to create Custom presets that duplicated the features of the standard presets for 1920 x 1080 square pixels and an aspect ratio of 1.00.
