Export multiple clips from one timeline

Hi,
Is there a way to export multiple clips into separate files from the timeline. So, basically i have a time line with many clips which i need to export to individual files, not one long video. In FCP 7 I would drag all these clips into a new folder and then batch export. But in FCPX?
Thanks!

Of course i's  not "half baked". Just because it lacks a feature that you want doesn't make it so.
There isn't  as NLE out there that doesn't attract  complaints from some users about its functionality in some area or other.
Fortunately, the fully functional  trial version gives us a good chance to find out first-hand whether the design meets our requirements.

  • Exporting multiple clips from one sequence as separate files.

    Hello fellow editors!
I have about 100+ video files that I want to cut into shorter clips, edit a bit and then export in a Final Cut friendly format (currently they are AVCHD mts files) to send it to my friend, who is putting the whole movie together.
I dont want to use Final Cut for this ( I cannot, I have a windows machine) and I was hoping to work with premier CC and media encoder CC.
There is a way of putting all clips in one sequence and then nesting each one, then you can send them to Encoder CC and it will render them as separate files - thats is just not very productive, nesting clips one by one and it takes forever for Encoder to import sequences.
I was wondering if there is a better workflow? I heard that Final Cut has shortcuts to do this very easily, you just click on all those clips in sequence and "batch export" them, which puts them in some place as separate, already cut files.?
Anything? I love premier, let my feelings be justified!)

    Kevin Monahan ...
Lucid George is right ... select one trimmed clip, File->Export->Media, you can choose whether in-out or entire clip.
Select MORE than one clip, you get a completely different export box ...
These two selections were "exported" from that bin created by dragging the trimmed clips from the timeline to a new bin ... I don't know what else one is supposed to do. You can't even select multiples clips and batch sub-clipping, which would at least cut the steps down.

  • How do you select/move multiple clips from one timeline to another?

Has to do with combining multiple edls from Avid - required due to an issue with duplicate reel names in the original Arri footage. I can move them one at a time, but it is very tedious. Is there a way to select multiple clips and move them together?

Actually discovered the magic of the shift key.
IRCP Beauty doesn't recognize multiple timelines in a session, so first you have to at least get the footage on multiple tracks in the same timeline. Shift + drag on the track will allow you to move it to another timeline. Also Shift + drag on the center of the first clip in a sequence will slide the entire sequence down - which is how timelines end up getthing offset all the time. Also, if there are multiple tracks in a timeline and some are locked and some aren't, Shift + drag on a clip will slide ALL UNLOCKED tracks in the timeline.
Finally, Shift + click on either in or out marker moves both points up or down the timeline.

  • Batch export of multiple clips from one video in Premiere CS4

    Hello,
I'm really in a bind and hope you guys can help me out. I have about 30 hours of video in about 30 mpg files..1 hour in each video. I need to splice out small clips from each video..anywhere from 10 to 20 clips in each and send them to Media Encoder to store as video files I can then re-use. In CS3 I can do this manually one clip at a time ..set In point, Out point and then export. This however takes a very very long time....set the ins/outs, then export, then wait, then repeat..very tedious
In CS4 can i set multiple ins/outs for the entire video and then have premiere go to work and do a batch export? Or is there another way of doing this? I have about a week left to get this done and at a total of about 450 clips to export each 2-5 mins for encoding this will take forever...plase help!
    Stan

It wont do exazctly what you want but.... But the batch encoding should save you some time since you can continue to work while it encodes/exports.
Do you need to make more than one output type? Like DV, WMV, FLV... for each one? If so, I suggest this workflow:
    1. Open source file 1 in Source monitor set in and out, ctrl drag subclip to a folder in the project panel.
    2. Repeat step 1 for any other subclips needed from source clip 1
    3. When done with first source clip go into bin where you put your subclips click on them one at a time and do export/media to your lowest compressed need (like DV AVI for example); it will be added to AME queue
    4. Repeat step 3 for all subclips, then click start queue.
    5. While AME is exporting all the subclips for your first source clip, repeat steps 1-3 on source clip 2...
When you are all done; if you need to make multiple output types for each file; Do (IN AME) File>New>Watch Folder
Create a Watch folder for each output type you want. Then simply copy all the exported clips you want inot each of these folders and AME will process them all for you in batch.
It doesnt do exactly what you wished for; but should save you a few buckets of time.

  • Exporting multiple projects from FCP timeline hangs

When rendering multiple projects from Final Cut Pro's timeline through compressor, I get varied results. I am rendering 3 files - Apple Pro Res, MPEG-2 (VBR Highest quality for Blu-Ray), & 48khz AIFF audio file.
Typically we will set up 3 projects for one night to render overnight (30 minutes to 1 hour for each project). In the morning when we come in compressor will sometimes show up as 90 hours remaining, sometimes it will still be cranking out on the last project with 12 hours remaining. If we leave it going it will eventually finish. However when we shut everything down, reboot computer, start export from timeline and it completes the render in HALF the time compressor stated remaining before we closed it. Each project typically takes 6-8 hours to get all three files (pro res, MPEG-2, AIFF) we allow 18 hours for render.
Drive space should not be an issue. We have a 5 TB array (typically has 2 TB free for 4 projects), system drive has 350 GB free and the 4 projects rendered out will take up approximately 300 GB. The project reads, and writes to the array for everything.
Any help on trying to figure out why compressor slows down over time. Once restarting compressor goes as expected.
Thanks for the help in advance.

All software is up to date latest versions of FCP and Compressor.

This is like an EDL...Edit Decision List.  This basically is a metadata rich document that is used to transfer clip information between systems.  You can export an XML from FCP 7 to FCP 6 so that you can open a sequence, or a project.  Export an XML of the sequence and open that up in Excel to have clip name, reel and timecode information for tracking footage.
No media is enclosed in this file.

  • Exporting multiple clips at one time

Hi, My school has asked me to convert old videos onto DVD media for archiving and for distribution amongst all teachers in my department. Yes I am sure some will mention legal stuff here but the videos are no long made and what we have is being held together with cellophane tape or cracking laserdisc videos (remember those?).
So far I have been able to import all the videos into iMovie. Each clip is about 1 minute or less in duration. I am now exporting one clip at a time into the requested WMV format but I can only export 1 clip at a time and I have several hundred to to. Is there a way to select multiple clips and export them one at a time without me having to select and export on clip at a time?
thanks in advance now back to exporting....

Never mind I am doing it one clip at a time. The school seems really happy about this since these video discs are no longer available for repurchase. Thanks.

  • Multiple clips in one timeline - Frame freezes between each clips!!!

Yeah, I've read a couple of topics and didn't found any real info about my problems...
All my clips are encoded in mpeg2DVD... I've created one timeline and put all of these in order... When I'm watching the preview, everything is fine... BUT after I burned the DVD... on players, it freezes every time the clips changes... just for a second... but it's really annoying...
It's like all the time a clip changes on my timeline, it senses it... and freeze a little bit...
    I've erased all the chapters...
    Tried the play lists...
Wonder if there's anything else I can do to?

You're not going to get around this using MPEG-2 files.
What the function is actually doing (under the hood) is creating VM commands that go from one movie to the next movie. This is why the pause - the player is "reading" the commands at the end of the clip, as it needs to know where to go next. It's effectively a POST command linking the end action of one timeline to the next.
You can always try using AVI files, and allowing Encore to transcode the timelines to MPEG-2 - this might get around the problem.

  • Exporting multiple clips from timeline...

    Here's the situation...
I have a two hour interview on my timeline...
The interview needs to be divided up into about 20 different clips and then they need to be exported independently.
The old way in FCP 7
    mark in...
    mark out...
    export...
    done...
*** is up with this new FCPX...
Sure... I can send to compressor and mark the in and out there... however... there is no snapping... there is no indication of where the clips start and stop.
It's just one big long 2 hour clip that I have to write down the time code if I want to find my ins and outs... totally unacceptable for this project.
Please please please can someone find a solution for this... I do not want to go back to fcp 7... I have been defending fcpx and "thinking differently" for the last 3 months...
This may be the last straw though.

    Ugh!
    Unacceptable.
Sorry nothing personal... but I have 80 x 2hr interviews that each need to be cut up into about 20-30 clips each...
That's 25 x 80... That's 2000 clips that i would have to compound, copy, open new project, paste, export, and delete project....
This is where fcpx loses me... and I will switch to the dark side of hating the crap out of it with all the others.
Please... don't let me drink the hateraid.

  • Capturing multiple clips from one mini dv tape

i have been having trouble using the 'capture project' option. i can capture individual clips, but would like to set them all before hand and have the computer go through and capture them all at once. this seems to be possible, but when i click 'capture project' it either only captures the first clip or reads 'error'. any suggestions?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
You cannot capture project with this method in FCE, it's not suported.
See page 179 and 181 of user's manual.
You can capture now all your tape (or portion with the esc key), and recapture a project (from a previously captured but now erased media). See page 189.
Each clip that is logged in capture window is captured right after you set the in and out points. One clip at a time.
Final Cut Pro can meets your needs.
If your problem is to recapture a project, it seems that there is a time code break on your DV tape, thus the error.
Note that HDV cannot be recaptured.

  • How to make CD track markers when exporting multiple tracks from one track

I have been remixing a soundtrack on one track. I have imported in many tracks and worked on them as one project and now I'd like to export them as seperate tracks by giving them track markers. I've been reading the manual and this forum but haven't found anything about it. I also wanted to use Logic to clean up some old vinyl records and export them as CDs. Help please.

  • Make multiple clips from one music track

How do I trim my music track so that I can edit out parts in the middle--not just the ends?

    do the following:
    1. create the two different instrument tracks, let's say instr1 and instr2
    2. got to the environment window and search these two tracks and drag them a bit aside
    3. choose New/Transformer
    4. drag the Transformer object in the neighberhood of the two instrument tracks
    5. cable the output of instr1 to the input of the transformer object
    6. cable the output of the transformer object to the input of the instr2 track
    7. go back to the arrange window
    8. select instr1 and enjoy!

  • Exporting multiple clips to Media Encoder

    Hi there,
I need to export multiple clips from Premiere Pro CS4 to Media Encoder (so I can work with the footage at a lower resolution then replace with the original clips).
Currently I am exporting each clip individually, which is very time consuming as I have hundreds of clips.
Is there a way to export all the clips simultaneously?
    Thanks!

    As individual clips?  No.
You might try using a Watch Folder in Adobe Media Encoder.  The Help file should have the details.
However, the best solution is to upgrade your hardware so that the native media works without issue.

  • Is there a way to copy & paste a clip from the timeline in one project in to another project?

    Hello Popular Premiere Pontificaters,
I am using Premiere 6 on a Windows 7 machine.
Is there a way to copy and paste a clip from the timeline in one project in to another project?... I can copy my clip, but when I open the other project, it will not allow me to paste it in there... but I am able to copy and paste a clip within a single project.  I tried everything... pasting in to a new video track and pasting in to an existing video track in the second project, but the paste option simply isn't there when I open the second project.
And if Premiere itself will not allow me to do this in any way, will a copy-paste clipboard type of accessory app allow me to do this?... if so, which is the best, trustworthy copy-paste app that is malware free?
    Thanks,
    digi

    Hi Bill Hunt,
I just read the page that you provided about "Handles"... thanks allot for that ARTICLE.  In your article and the subsequent article HANDLES, "Transitions Overview: applying transitions" linked from your article, it indicates (in PrE and PrPro anyway - I'm in Premiere 6) that transitions can be applied to non-Video 1 tracks... the paragraph below is a quote from that "Transitions Overview: applying transitions" article...
"Whatever is below the transition in a Timeline panel appears in the transparent portion of the transition (the portion of the effect that would display frames from the adjacent clip in a two-sided transition). If the clip is on Video 1 or has no clips beneath it, the transparent portions display black. If the clip is on a track above another clip, the lower clip is shown through the transition, making it look like a double-sided transition."
So this indicates that transitions can be applied to non-Video 1 tracks since it is referring to content in tracks beneath a transparent fade that would show through... and only non-Video 1 tracks can be transparent and have other clips "beneath" them in the timeline, right?
In the screenshot sample in your article at this LINK, I see the handles (referred to as B and E) and I can see in my monitor window how those handles would be represented by the two little bracket symbols {  }  ... you can see how they appear in my monitor window in Premiere 6 in this screenshot, and below, from a different thread that isn't related to this topic.
But I'm still trying to figure out how the handles can be applied in the non-Video 1 tracks in the timeline to insert a transition (cross-dissolve) between two clips.
Can you advise me on this?... I posted a separate thread HERE on this topic, but I haven't got any further with finding an answer.
Thanks so much for your article,
    digi

You need to give a lot more information about the media specifications and the project properties you're using in the different projects.
