Export multiple slices and preserve slice name?

I am very particular about naming my slices what I want the filename to be, then do the right-click > export slice on each graphic, but when you have to do that for 50 slices it gets pretty annoying.
Is there a way to select a bunch of slices and export them with their current slice name, all at the same time? Rather than just giving it the generic root - name that they all go off of.

If you name the slices in the Web Layer (double-click on "Slice" then type a name without an extension), then that's the name they get when they're exported.
When I want to export only some of my slices, here's what I do:
Select the slices (either on the canvas or in the Web layer)
Go to File > Image Preview
Adjust any parameters (the Properties panel has limited selections, so this is one good option)
Click the Export button
For the Export: drop-down, select "Images Only"
For the Slices: drop-down, select Export Slices
Check box next to "Selected slices only"
Click the Save button
If you go through File > Export, you skip steps 3 and 4. If you've already optimized your file parameters, then you might prefer this workflow.
I'm using CS3, but I don't think this process changed in CS4.

On windows it gets a bit hairy as there really is no clean and nice way of doing it.There are a couple of options.
1. If you can rely on dateformat not changing, you can use a static substring expression. For example, the following might work w/ finnish locale echo %date:~3,2%%date:~6,2%%date:~9,4%Similarly, when you know the dateformat you can tokenize the output of 'date /t' and discard the tokens you don't want.
2. You can set dateformat to your liking and then just use %date% in your script
3. You can run a "SELECT to_char(sysdate,..." into a file and then read that file in your script.
4. Simon Sheppard also has a solution you could use as a basis. I have a slight issue with the approach, but that could just be me.
5. Use gnuwin32 or similar ;)
Also note that %date% env var is set automatically from w2k onwards, so some of the solutions might not work w/ older versions.

Net Install, Creating and Preserving User Names & Prefs

I have 10.3.9 Server and a few 10.3.9 and 10.4.9 clients with iMacs, eMacs, Macbooks etc. I would like to install (not boot) from the server but I cant find much info about it except the Help which doesnt cover my question which is:
1. How do I create a new unique user name for each machine if they are all installing from the same disk image?
2. Can I preserve the desired prefs for each machine (they are all mostly the same but not all) How about for all the apps such as Office X, Firefox (incl Bookmarks), Scanning Software, OCR, VNC etc etc and other stuff like VPN which only the laptop users need.
3. Regarding the 4 Sight Network Fax, Each user needs to log on with its own password - Does Net Install cope with this? If so how without a unique installer for each user?
4. I realise I can create a served .pkg file that all can access but then I would have to manually set the prefs for each app (wouldn't I?).
I gues my quesiton boils down to:
How do I set up some kind of image that will include the OS, the Apps and all their finely crafted prefs but have flexibility when it comes to variations in finder and app prefs across the group to save time.
(How you ever spent time customising Word and Excel VX menus and finding the changes don't stick!!)

From your text I understand that I can put a disk image of OS and Apps on the server as a network install to install new and update existing clients. After that, I create a "home directory" on the server for each client and populate it with the correct prefs for the finder and apps.
At each startup the user doesnt know it but all their prefs are coming down from the server, as a result they can log in anywhere on the network adn everything is as they left it!
If thats right, then after new system setup, how do I effect a standard suite of prefs for each client without repeatedly setting up each one? How about clients that have some prefs set slightly differently (like that fax server which needs unique pwd for each client)? Finally, what if I need to distribute a new app pref to each client?

If I need to export 3 schemas SCH1, SCH2 and SCH3, also table tab1 and tab2 in schema SCH4, can anyone write only one parfile to export them in once.

Are you going to use original exp/imp or data pump?
It's not easy to do this in one shot if it's even possible.

Connecting multiple sheets and tables to names

I was looking at the sheet in the education section when you attempt to make a new spreadsheet and I got really impressed by the grades one that allows you to look at the summary of a student by typing the student name in the cell, I would like to do this but have no idea how they did it, I am currently trying to make an easily accessible spreadsheet for my Marines here in Iwakuni and could really use the help.

We could probably give you the best assistance if you told us more about how you plan to use the spreadsheet. As designed, the Grade Book template is a personal tool for an instructor who has access to a Mac with Numbers installed on it. Distribution would be by printing the Reports Sheet for individual students. This template is a good example of the use of LOOKUP functions.

Can't select multiple slices at a time

Hello,
I'm having a bit of a technical problem. I have used my slice tool several times before with no problems whatsoever. However, I recently ran into a weird problem with my slice tool. After I slice an image up using the slice tool, I am no longer able to select mutliple slices at the same time. When I select one slice, and hold down the shift key to select another slice, the other slice is just selected alone. I reinstalled Photoshop and I also reverted back to the default settings; all to no avail. I'm currently using Photoshop 7.0.
Anyone know how to fix this problem?

If i remember right, in photoshop 7, you can only select multiple slices
using the save for web function in photoshop 7 or in Image Ready.
I don't remember be able to select multiple slices in photoshop 7 proper
outside the save for web dialog.

Export of multiple artboards with only artboards' name, doesnt save to desired folder.

when trying to export multiple artboards into files that only bear the separate artboards' name, i set up the export with the filenames with blank names so set to ".jpg" . i also choose a folder that they are to be saved to.
what happens now is weird: the files will have the folders' name as a basename and will be saved next to the folder, not inside folder.
can you people see this behaviour too?

You can rename the artboards there.
The name gets part of the file name on export.

Merge clips and preserve audio clip names?

Hey Guys,
I'm about to start editing a new project of mine that I just shot. I used Premiere to edit my last project and loved it, save one problem I had after using the "Merge Clips" feature to sync my audio. In order to save time, I used Merge Clips to sync my picture and sound rather than do it manually. The feature worked really well, but I didn't notice until it came time to export my OMF that the "Merge Clips" feature had renamed all of my audio clips to the same name as the video clip it was sunc to. This resulted in many broken links in the OMF.
Is there any way to use "Merge Clips" or a feature similar to it, that preserves the names and metadata of the master clips you're syncing? I might just do it all by hand to be safe.

I do believe we've uncovered (yet another) bug. For the life of me, I couldn't get a video to sync to its respective WAV. The audio from both sources was clean and clear; if Premiere couldn't auto sync this, it couldn't sync anything...
Then the funny part: it could sync everything else together perfectly (DSLR, GoPro, HDV). I must admit I was impressed, GoPros record fairly horrible audio- but Premiere managed to sync them accurately and quickly with the other cameras. It just treated the external audio as foreign and refused it.
Can someone from Adobe chime in? I'm here for questions.

Slice Name

If you use "Save Selected Slices...", images with the slice name, or slice index are output to the file system.
If a user opens the "Save for Web..." dialog and double clicks on a slice a user can enter a slice name. The following code picks this slice name up for each slice:

The problem is that hName has a blank value when a user did not supply a name to a given slice. So how do I go about getting the slice index in this case? The slice id is a huge number and the slice position does not match the slice index.

You mean the object name in the Properties panel? It is a bit
cramped down there, but did you know that's the same thing as the
object name in the layers panel? I never use that little textbox
for that very reason, I prefer just using the layers panel. Double
click the slice name in the layers panel (which by default says
"Slice") and you can name it right there, exact same thing as using
the Properties panel. And you can even drag out the panel width
just like you want. :)

When I export a playlist and then open in excel, do whatever sorting I want, I then save the file and reimport into itunes but not all the songs are there. It appears to be from "comma's" in the song name. Any solutions?

I see songs such as "Monday, Monday" or "Paint It, Black" or even the artist name such as "Fireballs, with Jimmy Gilmer" which have comma's in them, being a problem when I try to do the following:
1. Export a playlist which contains songs which are all there and play fine, but some have comma's in the title such as listed above.
2. I then open that file in Excel and bring it in as a Tab-delimited file. Everything lays out fine, and all the songs are thing (including those with comma's).
3. I then sort the varoius fields I want (which I can't do in i-tunes because i-tunes won't sort it properly), and resave the file as a newly named file, which is also a .txt file.
4. I then import that playlist into my itunes. It is exactly the same songs that I just had exported but i-tunes says some of the songs can't be found.
I have traced this problem to comma's in the file name of the song such as listed above. There must be a solution to this either as the file is opened in excel or in how it's saved or some other solution short of having to rename song/artists without using comma's.

The additional problem is the file name of the song itself. Even if I were able to delete the commas or replace with a space for example, changing the file name would result in itunes not being able to find the file. I would have to go through each file (out of about 15,000+ songs) to find any that have titles such as described in this thread and change not only the song and artist in the fields, but changing the mp3 file itself.
I fear that I am really pretty much going to have to start with a list of songs that have no comma and then do a file compare to find those songs with commas and then just physically moving them into a new playlist I'm trying to create, but this is a royal pain as I want to be able to create a variety of playlists based on these chart dates/peak positions.
I'm trying to sort the songs in this manner: I use different fields in itunes so that I can put the "peak position" of each song based on Billboard charts, as well as the date the peak position was acheived. I use the "comment box" for that. I use the "grouping" field for my peak position.
So I end up with something like "10/14/1980" in the comment box as the peak position for a song which is in the grouping field, and so forth. If I try to sort the comments column in itunes for example, it won't sort properly. If I sort the Grouping field, it will bring up all the "1's", but that's followed by "10", 11, ...19, then "2", etc. This is why I want to export the playlist and sort it as I want, and then reimport the playlist into itunes.
What I'm ultimately trying to achieve is a year-by-year peak position playlist so that I end up with every #1 song (in this case) from, say, January 1st 1980 and then every #1 song in sequential order for the rest of the year falls in line. I have chart position dates from 1955 through 1999. I have entered in all the data from Billboard books I own so I can really create some amazing playlists, but these commas are problematic. Had I known this ahead of time I would have made "Monday, Monday" as "Monday Monday" and not included commas, but it's too late for that.
Any suggestions?

How to export multiple copies reoprts based on parameters and with pre-defined naming

Hi All:
I have a problem of using SSRS 2012, we have multiple clients and they wanted us to deliver the pre-defined excel reports to different branches based on selecting the "branch name" parameter, also they have a naming rule for the excel
report file.
We cannot use the subscription as they need to do it in one batch and upload to an FTP file, therefore we are doing this manually for over 300 reports. Is this a convenient way to generate them in one batch as well as customising their file names?

As per my understanding, there are multiple clients, you want to deliver reports to clients according to branch name parameter, and naming the excel file according to the rule. If that is the case, we can use data-driven subscription to achieve your goal.
Reporting Services provides data-driven subscriptions so that you can customize the distribution of a report based on dynamic subscriber data. Data-driven subscriptions use query results to determine the recipients of the subscription, delivery settings,
and report parameter values. At run time, the report server runs a query to get values used for subscription settings. We can use the Create Data-driven Subscription pages to define the query and assign query values to subscription settings. For detail information,
please refer to the following steps:
1. Open Report Manager, and locate the report for which you want to create a data-driven subscription.
2. Hover over the report, and click the drop-down arrow.
3. In the drop-down menu, click Manage. This opens the General properties page for the report.
4. Select the Subscriptions tab, and then click New Data-driven Subscription.
5. Choose a method of delivery, then select data source for the subscription.
6. Specify a query that retrieves subscriber data like below:

The hyphen (-) is more search engine friendly, so I label all my photos using hyphens (-) to separate the keywords in the file name
Here's a sample file name - it's for the "Guess Where Berkeley" flickr site

I created a Lightroom HTML Gallery and posted it to the following link.

Though it looksl like the HML gallery shows the original file name in the web page, it looks like Adobe Lightroom modified each photo's file name by changing the - (hyphen) to an underscore (_)

InDesign's interactive PDF support is a small subset of what you can do in Acrobat Profesional.
I think you probably want to create a button (or change an existing button) in Acrobat Pro that causes Acrobat to close the document -- that should be analagous to "exitting the CD." I assume your autorun file is opening the PDF in Adobe Reader? You have not included it and are not specific, so it is tough to say.
I believe in Acrobat Javascript you can close the document with this.closeDoc(). You'll probaly need to ask on the Acrobat forums (possiby Acrobat Scripting) for more detail.

Is it possible to search for multiple folders with the same name and then select them all and change the permissions on just those folders .i.e. Search for the budget folders in all client folders and lock them down to just the project managers. Without having to go to each folder and apply the permissions.

Can't export MXF and preserve metadata

I want to take a file from the bin, export from MXF to QT, and preserve the metadata. Oddly, there seems to be no workflow in Adobe capable of doing this.
I can't import the MXF straight into AME, because it's from the C300 which splits up the clips into 2 GB chunks, which only Premiere Pro seems capable of rejoining.
I can't send the MXF straight to AME from the Premiere Pro bin, which would be a nice functionality, but sadly, it seems I have to send it from a sequence, but...
I can't send the MXF to AME from a sequence, because then all the metadata from the clip is lost.
I can't modify the metadata in the export dialog, because timecode box is greyed out and zeroed...
Any suggestions?

Aha! I found that I can export from the source monitor instead of the timeline, which preserves all the metadata.
