Export Numbers sheet as XML?

Is it possible to export a Numbers sheet as XML?

You may open it with TextWrangler or equivalent.
If your document is a flat one, rename it xxx.numbers as xxx.numbers.zip then double click. You will get a package named xxx.numbers.
ctrl + click to "Show package's contents".
You will see the Index.xml file.
If you are using the package format, ctrl + click will give you access to Index.xml.gz. Double click to expand it as Index.xml.

  • Exporting Numbers sheet to pdf but keeping formulas?

    Hi!
I want to know if it's possible to export a Numbers sheet to .pdf in a way that let's me keep the formulas? My goal is to create a pdf which let's the user answer a series of questions where the answers create a result and a couple of diagrams. I have it all drawn out in Numbers but can't figure out how to create a pdf out of this. If I export the sheet to pdf the formulas disappear....
    Please help me!
    Thanks!

    Hi Owen,
This seems to be a good candidate for the sharing function in Numbers 3 rather than a pdf. You simply send the person the link to the spreadsheet. They enter some data right through their browser and (since, unlike with a pdf, the formulas are there) they will see the results and the charts change on their end. They don't need to have a Mac or Numbers installed; just any computer with a modern browser.
That works well for one user at a time. If you have different users who will each be inputing different things you can set up multiple copies of your document and share each one to a different person.
If they have a modern Mac updated to Mavericks you can of course just send them your document and they can open it on their end, since Numbers is now free to all.
Obviously, none of this is advisable if data integrity is an issue, because once you share a document, both they and you (or anybody else who gets their hands on the link) can go in and change values and formulas until such time as you revoke the sharing.  There's no password protection for shared documents.  Hope that's coming.
    SG
Edit: Sharing works the same from Numbers for iOS, in case you're running it on an iPad.

  • I want to export data in a numbers file to xml

I have a simple numbers sheet of data (8 columns) and I want to export it into an xml format so that I can then import the data into my image management software. How do I do this ?

    You understand wrongly.
    (1) the index.xml embedded in an iWork document is specific to iWork.
Only an iWork application may render it.
    (2) the thread which you found was describing the way we may extract the index.xml from aNumbers document saved with the original structure : package
In iWork '09, the default format is flatfile so, before being able to apply what I described, You must apply an extraneous step.
    rename your document
azerty.numbers as azerty.numbers.zip then double click.
You will get a new azerty.numbers document with the structure package in which you will find the file index.xml.
In this case it's not packed as .gz because the compact process was applied at the global level.
I repeat that only an iWork application will be able to render the index.xml file which isn't containing every datas required to allow other apps to render it.
TextWrangler, like other applications will just read the raw index.xml file, not render it.
The document above will appear as (here is just a subset)
I highlighted in blue the cells's contents.

  • Excel Export - Numbers are displayed as text

    Hello,
When the report is exported to excel from SAP LIst Viewer screen -
List -> Export -> Spreadsheet ->All Available format --> In Office 2003 XML format.
The report opens up in excel, the numbers (numerical values) are displayed as text. How can we change the system setting, so when the report is exported to excel, the numbers are not converted to text.
I found SAP Note 1393974 - WD ABAP ALV: Excel export: Numbers are interpreted as text - which is related to WD setting.
But it does not mention about the GUI ALV.
    Appreciate helpful replies.
    Thanks,
    Madhu

    Hi,
    Try this
List->Export->Local file  and then select spreadsheet from the list.
You will get the actual data in excel sheet.
    Regards,
    Aravind.

  • Formatting / Post Processing of Exported Excel Sheet

    Hi ,
    Issue:
The Columns in the Excel Sheet are not fully visible when we export Report from CR viewer  to Excel Sheet. So we had planned for Post processing of the Excel Sheet using VBA or .NET etc to format the Excel Sheet, which would be on the server side, meaning the End user will never see the formatting process, but only the End Report. Is it possible to achieve this ??
    NOTE:
    1) VBA or .NET could not be run on the Linux Server but we could take advantage of the windows server in the presentation layer.
    Architecture:
    Presentation Layer
Linux Server <--> Windows .Net Server <--
    > End User
    {Crystal RAS Server} <-->{GUI CR Viewer Application}<--
    >
    Our Proposed Solution:
    1) Create an GUI Application that has CR viewer in it .
    2) Create a Separate Excel Export button on the webpage.
    3) when the user wants to export the report , he clicks the button.
    4) The GUI/ application saves the Exported Excel Sheet from the Ras server to the windows server.
    5) Then the .Net or the Vba code is applied to process/Format the Excel Sheet.
    6) When complete the End user is prompted for saving the report to a local disk.
    My questions:
    1) Can this be achieved ?
    2) what would be the best way to handle this ?
    3) what should be the process flow ?
    4) what are the things to be considered while planning for such a design ?
    Regards,
    Ramkumar Govindasamy

So you're looking at using RAS .NET SDK on the Application Layer to export a Crystal Report to Excel, save to temp file on the Application Layer machine, process that temp file, and stream that back out to the client web browser.
    Considerations:
    1. You need to create your own custom UI button to trigger the process, since the .NET Web Forms Crystal Reports viewer won't have the hooks to customize the Excel export.
    2. Running Excel VBA from your Web App may be problematic - you'd have to be particularly careful if the system is under load, since the Excel VBA - COM-Interop isn't necessarily designed for high throughput.  Under high load, you may get file locking or COM-Interop layer just refuse to process.  It's pretty common to try and catch exceptions and retry if you encounter this.
You'd likely not find anyone here familiar with 2 above, but 1 is fairly common.
    Sincerely,
    Ted Ueda

  • Again: Using Crystal Report to export excel sheet.

Morning every one, first Iu2019d like to apologize for my last question see Using Crystal Report to export excel sheet. Itu2019s pretty hard to understand and wastes your precious time. Now here is a new one hopefully it will do myself a lot of help:)
First, we have a table called HOURLY_PORTUTIL in the Database:
    Column Name...........Data Type
    STARTTIME ................DATE
    CIRCLE.......................VARCHAR2
    SERVICENAME...........VARCHAR2
    PORTUTIL....................NUMBER
The data in this table looks like:
    9/25/2008 00:00:00 AM...AP...(456)...0.01
    9/25/2008 01:00:00 AM...AP...(456)...0.04
    9/25/2008 02:00:00 AM...AP...(456)...5.04
    9/25/2008 12:00:00 PM...AP...(456)...0.02
    9/25/2008 00:00:00 AM...AP...AL-MOD...0.01
    9/25/2008 01:00:00 AM...AP...AL-MOD...0.04
    9/25/2008 02:00:00 AM...AP...AL-MOD...0.04
    9/25/2008 12:00:00 PM...AP...AL-MOD...0.02
    9/26/2008 00:00:00 AM...AP...(456)...1.01
    9/26/2008 01:00:00 AM...AP...(456)...0.34
    9/26/2008 02:00:00 AM...AP...(456)...5.24
    9/26/2008 12:00:00 PM...AP...(456)...7.72
    9/26/2008 00:00:00 AM...AP...AL-MOD...12.0
    9/26/2008 01:00:00 AM...AP...AL-MOD...0.23
    9/26/2008 02:00:00 AM...AP...AL-MOD...0.44
    9/26/2008 12:00:00 PM...AP...AL-MOD...8.11
    9/25/2008 00:00:00 AM...Delhi...(456)...1.01
    9/25/2008 01:00:00 AM...Delhi...(456)...2.04
    9/25/2008 02:00:00 AM...Delhi...(456)...6.04
    9/25/2008 12:00:00 PM...Delhi...(456)...7.02
    Then we have a Cross-Table:
    Columns:
    .............HOURLY_PORTUTIL.SERVICENAME
    Rows:
    ............HOURLY_PORTUTIL.CIRCLE
    ............HOURLY_PORTUTIL.STARTTIME
    ............@hourly
    Summarized Fields:
    ..............................Sum HOURLY_PORTUTIL.PORTUTIL
The Formula @hourly converts, say, '9/25/2008 01:00:00 AM' to '01:00-02:00'.
The above all is the information of our Cross-Table configuration, but the outcome is not what we want. I find that this forum doesn't want the user to post image, so I post the actually outcome and the outcome we want in my Picasa.
    Actually outcome:
    What we want:
I know that the outcome looks good enough, but our customers don't think so. They want export the report to Excel sheet and have every row with exact CIRCLE and STARTTIME.
    Thanks again guys:)

    Hi  Ashwini Yadav,
    Thanks for your reply:)
I'm afraid that your answer is not perfectly right. Again I'm sorry for my vague description. The suggestion you gave us is already adopted. The total and grand total part disappeared but we still can't get what we want.
Please have a look at the new image link below, Hopefully it will give you a clear picture of what's going on:)

  • All WEB links lost in an iOS 6 numbers sheet

    Hi,
I work with Numbers '09 on an iMac. Lately I bought an iPad and installed the iOS Numbers application to be able to work with my Number sheets in iCloud.
So 1 sheet in iCloud and updating it with Numbers  on iMac and Numbers on iOS.
From the moment on I open the sheet on my iOS device it warns me that it will lose all hyperlinks ( WEBlinks ). And that is what it does and leaves my sheet useless on iOS and iMac !
    Is there a solution ?
Secondly, there is no way to access the files in iCloud using Finder, which should be an obvious posibility. Accessing via the WEB interface is quite bothering.
I though to use iMac and iOS devices using the same files in an easy and simple way, but it does not work and it is not easy.
    Are there solutions ??
    Thanks
    Dirk

    Hi,
I sorted it out by myself by reading the internet and doing some tests. Here goes my idea about iOS numbers and the iCloud.
iMac MAC OS Numbers 09 is NOT compatible with iOS numbers
And that is it. The iOS version is made for people using iPhone and iPad, the Numbers 09 running on iMac is made for MAC OS.
Trying to share a numbers sheet via iCloud between iMac, iPhone and iPad means that you will LOSE all hyperlinks saved in a sheet, which could be Web portals and Email addresses. iOS Numbers asks you to make copies of the sheet to be edited, but that is a 10 years back in time practice. iOS numbers is useless for my purposes.
    iMac integration of iCloud
First, in iCloud you can only share Apple related files by compatible applications. There is NO integration with Finder, the Apple file explorer! Access is only possible via WEB or compatible applications, like Numbers.
iCloud is an iOS inspired product. The uif is identical. In fact, it is not straight forward to be used from iMac as there is no special MAC OS application, either Filer integration. DropBox is preferable to be used, because it is accessible from Filer, Web, applications, iPhone, iPad. It is compatible with all OS's and integrated in Filer !
iCloud is wonderful for synchronization between Apple products like Contacts, Calendar, Safari, iMessage, but not for documents and files ( until today )

  • Automator Workflow to export Numbers documents in PDF format

Does anyone know of any automator workflow to export Numbers documents in PDF format? I tried this program: Convert to PDF 1.2
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/automator/converttopdf_mauriziominelli.htm l
    But it gives an error.

    Reading carefully is often useful.
The description of the tool which you tried clearly states :
    *About Convert to PDF*
*_Convert all of your text files to PDF_. This action uses the underlying cups printing system ability to convert files, it’s a simple front end to the command line tool cupsfilter.*
As far as I know, but maybe you don't, *_a Numbers document isn't a text file._*
I already posted a script exporting Numbers documents as PDF.
Here is an enhanced version which apply only to Numbers '09 (or maybe higher) :
    --[SCRIPT save2Numbers&PDF.app]
Enregistrer le script en tant que Script : save2Numbers&PDF.scpt
déplacer le fichier créé dans le dossier
    <VolumeDeDémarrage>:Users:<votreCompte>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Numbers:
    --=====
    L'aide du Finder explique:
L'Utilitaire AppleScript permet d'activer le Menu des scripts :
Ouvrez l'Utilitaire AppleScript situé dans le dossier Applications/AppleScript.
Cochez la case "Afficher le menu des scripts dans la barre de menus".
    +++++++
    Save the script
    as a Script: save2Numbers&PDF.scpt
Move the newly created file into the folder:
    <startup Volume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Numbers:
Maybe you would have to create the folder Numbers and even the folder Applications by yourself.
go to the Scripts Menu, choose Numbers, then choose save2Numbers&PDF
The script saves the document in the native Numbers format and saves it in a .pdf file
If such a .pdf already exists, it is renamed with a stamp matching its modification date.
    --=====
    The Finder's Help explains:
To make the Script menu appear:
Open the AppleScript utility located in Applications/AppleScript.
Select the "Show Script Menu in menu bar" checkbox

  • How do I export character styles as XML?

I have a load of InDesign CS4 files. They contain paragraph styles, but do not appear to have any explicit character styles, though do contain content that is rendered as italic, bold, superscript content etc.
I have associated the paragraph styles with some imported tags and exported them successfully as XML, BUT I can't find a way of grabbing hold of the character styles in the same way.
Very grateful for some guidance on this.
    Thank you
    Brad

It sounds like your problem is that the character styling has been applied ad hoc - i.e., without character styles.
I would suggest creating all the character styles you need/want first. Then, you can use the Find/Change feature to find all text with a certain styling, and apply the appropriate character style to it. You'll need to think through the order in which you do the various Find/Change operations. For example, you will want to find all cases of Bold + Italic and replace with a Bold + Italic character style before you carry out the process for text that is simply either Bold or Italic.
Once you have the Character Styles applied, you can map them to XML tags just as you did with the Paragraph Styles.

  • Export score as music XML file is grey in logic x

when I want to export a song as XML file to communicate with sibelius
the option export score as xml file is grey
Why is that and can I change it
    Thanks

That size from iMovie is the space saving import that is not a standard dimension, nor is HD 4:3 aspect ratio, it is 16:9.
This means, as Tom already indicates, that changes are required for FCE use.
If you already know the 28 mins you require why not capture that directly into FCE using the appropriate Apple Intermediate Codec if it's possible?

  • Flash Pro CS6 - Exporting Sprite Sheet With EaselJS JSON Data

    Hi,
I've imported a png sequence into Flash Pro and have been trying to get the new sprite sheet generation feature to export JSON data in EaselJS format, but when I choose the EaselJS option from the dropdown menu, I only get a window function:
    (function(window) {
    }(window));
However, when I export as JSON, I do get proper JSON data.  Is this a known issue with EaselJS support in CS6, or should I be doing something differently?  I'd rather not use Zoe, the SWF to EaselJS AIR utility, because the pngs are fairly large and Zoe seems to have a maximum dimention cap for exporting sprite sheets, I get 12 of them whereas Flash Pro is able to auto detect dimentions, exporting one sprite sheet, which is great, I just need to get it to generate the EaselJS data along with it.  Thanks in advance!

Thanks, I was just about to convert the JSON file myself, then I read your reply, tried it and viola.  Do you happen to know why EaselJS can only read symbols, even if I labeled my frames?

  • Exporting DAC  metadata in XML format

I would like to export DAC metadata in XML format . As per the administration guide it is possible to export/import metadata in XML format.
Any information on this will be appreciated.

you can only export complete containers to XML, you can't only export the updates (as far as I know that is)
you can do this by selecting Tools, then select DAC Repository Management, then select Export.

  • Missing X-Axis labels in exported excel sheet

Missing X-Axis labels in exported excel sheet.
    Please help me on thsi

    Use the Metrics Inspector.
Click on the chart to select it, then click on one labels of the labels to select only the text box containing the x axis labels.
In the Metrics Inspector, use the control or type in a value (in degrees CCW from horizontal) to Rotate the labels.
You may also need to move, or remove the Legend showing the colour(s) used for each series. This is also in a Text box.

  • Edit in Text box at bottom of Numbers sheet?

I'd like to know if it is possible to edit cell content in the TEXT box at the bottom of a Numbers sheet.  I'm attaching a screen shot so you can see what I mean.
In Excel, there is a formula bar near the top of a sheet that allows this, and it's really helpful.  This box is the closest thing to that I can find in Numbers.
If Numbers has nothing similar, why do cell contents show up in that box if you can't do anything to them?  It would be much easier to make the changes in that box--which is pretty large--than in the cell itself.  And if it does exist, putting it at the top of the sheet would be helpful.
    Thanx for answering.
          ⍋
Here's the box I'm referring to.

    Hi Jane,
No, you can't edit the display at the lower left of the window.
Click twice in a cell to see the edit box and edit the formula in that box:
The edit box can be dragged around by the grey dot on its left, and expanded by dragging any side:
I often find it handy to copy the contents of a cell and paste to the canvas (it will become a Text Box) for a clearer view:
    Regards,
    Ian.
