ThanksI assume you want to use the traditional export/import tool, if you are in unix / linux environment what about using unix pipes compressed export?

  • IDvd 4.01 & QT/Final Cut Pro Exports, need advice

    Hi,
In tests with small Quicktime exported movies from the timeline in Final Cut Pro 4.5 -- meaning NOT making a full, new self-contained QT movie but just a smaller "reference" file -- I was able to burn fine 2 and 5 minute tests.
When I got to a longer (45 min) completed FCP timeline, and tried the same thing (dragging the exported reference file to iDVD), I had problems. Ran it overnight, and in the morning it was still in stage 3, and when I tried to stop it the whole computer crashed.
It takes FOREVER for FCP to export a longer fully self-contained quicktime movie...I am wondering if anyone has any info/advice on whether idvd:
-- has trouble working with these QT 'reference' files when they have to use/
access rendered media in Final Cut pro.
-- If it is worth the time to make a fully self-contained "separate" quicktime
movie from Final cut pro before dragging it for iDVD to encode for DVD
    Thanks
    Brigitte

    Hi B
Well a 45 min movie - to be coded as mpeg2 to a DVD disk takes time.
    on a dual G5 2GHz - about 60 min
    on a single G4 600MHz - about 10 - 20 hours
make a diagram and find out what would be relevant to Your set-up.

  • IPhoto to Aperture export/managment advice

Hopefully this will be my last request for advice for awhile. I have been lazy with my photo management, and I am testing Aperture out.  My large iPhoto library needs work but here is my request for some advice.
I want to separate my photos from my wife's (camera/iPhone).  She will use iPhoto for her camera and iPhone photos, she just likes viewing her photos and iPhoto would be simpler for her to use.  I will use aperture for my photos.  The problem is getting them separated.  Any advice/technique on getting them separated would be helpful.
    Thanks Gary

The separation would need to be  done before you import into Aperture. Once the images are in Aperture there will be no easy way to put them back in iPhoto.
    1+!
As this is really an iPhoto question you might get better answers over in the iPhoto community.
Hmm, we need advice from both communities - someone commuting frequently between both Applications.
@Big44g: Just in case you can't separate your images based on the camera make, because you both have identical cameras, you need to think of other features to classify the images and define smart albums (in iPhoto) based on those criteria.
E.g. In my old iPhoto Libraries that include some images made by my husband I took care to put his images in separate events, and the name of the event is prefixed by his firstname. To quickly find these events in iPhoto I define a smart album with the rule "Event contains ...some name"
To find all my images I use the rule
"Event contains Leonie"  or "Event does not contain...some name"
Once you have two albums or  smart albums in iPhoto containing your separate sets of images I suggest to tag them with keywords like "hers" and "mine". These keywords will be available in Aperture after you import the images to Aperture. and you might wish to copy the smart albums to regular albums ( I noticed that smart albums sometimes appear to be empty at first when viewed in the iPhoto Browser in Aperture).
To import the separate image sets to Aperture in different Aperture Libraries,  try the iPhoto Browser in Aperture:     File -> Import -> Show iPhoto Browser   (or ⎇I)
This lets you browse the current iPhoto Library and import selectively images, events, or albums.
You also may wish to define an import preset to tag the images with IPICT copyright tags on import.
    Cheers

  • Various export setting advice needed

I'd like to get some precision on some settings. I've made my film montage on iMovie 9 using my camera Sony DCR-SX40, It's 22 min long and has quite a bit of transitions, the file size is 4.2 GB. I'm doing it to give friends the DVD so they could view it on their TV. So currently all I know is that I need to export it as 720X480, but there are more settings I don't know about, like compression type, there are about 50 to choose from, I chose Apple Intermediate Codec, but maybe there's a better one? Then in the same box there is another selection of compressor presets:
    -HDV 720p ( I imagine I chose this one?)
    -HDV 1080i
    -HDV 1080p
    -other
    -Interlaced (yes or no?)
In the box with Export Size Setting I chose as dimensions:
    NTSC 720 X 480 16:9
2 things I'm not sure if I should check or not, and don't know what they will do:
    -Preserve aspect ratio
    -Deinterlace Source Video
    Thanks!

    Choose the highest quality available.
Along these lines, I've been experimenting a bit today and have been disappointed with deinterlacing. It doesn't make the "big difference" I was hoping for. Yes, a little better, but not what I was looking for. In the course of this I realized that most of the quality loss I've seen is in the Share to Large process. If instead I export to a QT movie at DV quality or higher, the resulting movie looks much better than the "large.m4v" that iMovie puts on the Media Browser, which is about 5% of the original file size. (That high compression is what got me looking harder at this.)
I haven't yet shown that this leads to a better final DVD, but I'd be surprised if it doesn't. It will likely take longer to encode, but worth it if I can see a difference at the end. I'll try it tonight.

I wish to export several frames from iMovie as if they were images (like JPEGs or TIFFs). Is it possible to do this using iMovie, if so how? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I've already managed to 'add a freeze frame' to isolate the desired frames but I can't export it. Thanks.

  • Need advice on Exporting a clip of images!

    Hi there guys,
I got a bunch of high resolution Images (1920x1440 pixels) from which i need to make a high-quality 3-minute clip,
not bigger than 30 Mega in size. The frame of the clip doesn't have to be huge, 800x600 is good enough.
Well i'm trying to export the project as F4V, but i can't get a clean output in excellent quality...:-(
Can anyone help me out in some insight on the best options...maybe F4V isn't the right one? tried MOV but
    files are huge!
I'd be grateful for any tips and advice...
    Thanks!!

Your design looks reasonable to me. It's important to connect devices to different members of the stack like you did.
By looking at your diagram I'm not sure if you meant that each ASA has its own Portchannel or not. If you run active/standby scenario I believe you need one Portchannel per ASA.

  • Whenever I try to store a lightroom preset using a folder on HDD it keeps jumping back to "export to mail". Any advice? Thanks!

Actually the headline says it all. I can't store preset that store on HDD. Lightroom always stores them as "export to email". Strange enough. Any advice here?

    Hi,
If you have not already I would change the Slide size to something that has a 4:3 Ratio.
The Buddy maybe trying to scroll left and right to see the whole slide although this shoud be controlled at you end.
I would open the Connection Doctor during a Chat  (iChat's Video menu).
Check that both Bit Rates are relatively stable (there is always some variance.)
Anything over 5% particularly if over 500kbps is likely to be causing problems.
You could try limiting the Bandwidth (iChat Menu > Preferences > Video section) to 500kbps at both ends
It may pay to drop to 200kbps as a test.  (you may lose the Side by Side presentation at this speed).

  • Export backups failing - Need advice

    Hello All,
We have a 10.2.0.3 database for which we have to take export backups everyday in maintainence window, when only batch jobs and other non essentials SQL's are running on the database.
The export command we have used in our script is as under:
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/exp / file=$ORACLE_DUMP_FILE compress=y full=y direct=n buffer=20480000 consistent=y statistics=none log=$ORACLE_LOGAtleast 3-4 times in a week, the export backup us failing with ORA-01555 errors like the one below:
    EXP-00008: ORACLE error 1555 encountered
ORA-01555: snapshot too old: rollback segment number 10 with name "_SYSSMU10$" too small
EXP-00000: Export terminated unsuccessfullyMy DB is configured as:
    SQL> show parameter undo_
    NAME                                 TYPE        VALUE
    undo_management                      string      AUTO
    undo_retention                       integer     54000
    undo_tablespace                      string      UNDOTBSAlso:
    SQL> select max(tuned_undoretention) from v$undostat;
    MAX(TUNED_UNDORETENTION)
75598The Max value is reached somewhere in the evening, but our job runs at
    SQL> select begin_time from v$undostat where TUNED_UNDORETENTION = 75598;
    BEGIN_TIME
29/05/2012 17:39:46At the time (as per my log file) when my export job failed, the above value was:
    SQL> select TUNED_UNDORETENTION from v$undostat where BEGIN_TIME like '29/05/2012 16:2%';
    TUNED_UNDORETENTION

Hello. Thanks for the inputs on CONSISTENT option. There are pre-laid change mgmt processes in every organisation which needs to be maintained/taken in account before such changes are made, and that too, with client approvals, etc. Since it was not a feasible option to get EXPDP or RMAN implemented at this point, so was this question raised.
There is a small issue, however, if we use CONSISTENT=N. Below is an extract from asktom.oracle.com:
    >
imagine if you started an export at 9am of the EMP and DEPT tables.
EMP started exporting at 9am and DEPT at 9:15am.
Now, the EMP data would be "as of 9am", but the DEPT data would be as of 9:15am. What if
you import that data now -- will it work? maybe, maybe not -- perhaps at 9:10am, someone
fired the last employee in department 50 and deleted department 50. Your EMP export
would have them in this deptno, your DEPT export would not have this deptno. The import
    would fail.
If you use consistent=y, Oracle will export all of the data "as of 9am", so deptno=50
will be included in all tables and the import will succeed.
    >
That's one of the risks involved.
Is there any other solution we can have in place for this issue? Thanks.

  • Automating export versions after sorting a photoshoot - advice please!!!

    Hi
I'm about to embark on a location shoot and I'm looking for workflow / automation advice which will help me to reduce my post production hours.
I'm using a Nikon dSLR, Aperture and a MacBook Pro 15inch. My knoweldge of Aperture is fairly basic although I am an intermediate to advanced mac user.
    Background:
Within the week's shoot I'll end up shooting approximately 1000 RAW images, of which all are imported into thier own specific album within the project, represent ing one of about 25 locations which make up the shoot. At the end of each day I'll import, tag and make my selections: 'Selects' denoted by two stars (**), and 'Secondary' denoted by by one star (*).
The bit I need advice on:
The flight home is about 8hrs, of which I wish to conclude all my post production, including output. I wish to automate the latter part to save me a lot of pointing, clicking and generally sitting about to wait for each album to export.
Final export is 1500x (or similar), 8 bit jpg, sRGB colourspace.
I wish export all shots with one click to folder structure like the example below. Which I'll then burn to CD and pass to the client:
South America Photo Shoot (name of PROJECT)
--> Hotel (name of first ALBUM in above PROJECT)
---->Selects (containing all ** shots in above ALBUM)
---->Secondary (containing all * shots in above ALBUM)
--> Beach (next name of ALBUM in above PROJECT)
    ---->Selections
    ---->Seconday
..and so on for each of the locations.
Any advice on how I can automate the output side of this project would be very welcome - I'll be reusing this workflow on multiple trips.
    Many thanks in advance
    Oliver

You're going to need some AppleScript experience for this one, and also to change your Album structure a bit.
Go to http://www.bagelturf.com/aparticles/tips/tipprint/index.html and copy the AppleSCript from about half way down the page. The script will export all images that are in Albums in a given Project, making a folder structure in the Finder that echoes your Aperture structure of Sub-folders and Albums.
You'll need to change your structure to something like:
South America Photo Shoot (name of PROJECT)
--> Hotel (FOLDER in above PROJECT)
    ---->Selects (ALBUM in 'Hotel' folder)
    ---->Secondary (ALBUM in 'Hotel' folder)
--> Beach (next name of FOLDER in above PROJECT)
    ---->Selects (ALBUM in 'Beach' folder)
    ---->Secondary (ALBUM in 'Beach' folder)
With some careful setting up, you should be able to make Smart Albums for all of the Albums, using keyword and rating searches.
Also, you will need to make a new export preset to fit your 1500px sRGB requirements, and copy the name of that preset into the AppleScript.

  • QT exported to MP4 = No Audio . . . . . Any advice please?

Exporting QT.mov to MP4 onto my new mobile phone. It Looks great and very clear but has no audio? I suspect it's due to not exporting a compatible AIFF audio file or something for MP4 to read?
What do I need to do to export the Audio over to MP4 through QT Pro or do I need an additional softaware to achieve both Audio and Video results for the export?
    Many thanks

Thank you for your advice - very much appreciated. I am using the options as follows to convert QuickTime audio and video onto my mobile phone.
    Export to MPEG4 > 'Apple MPEG4 Compressor' > Sound MPEG4 ACC > Mono > 44.1Khz > Frame Size 320 X 240 4.3 Aspect.
    Works very well.

  • Audio Settings are ignored on export to SWF in Captivate 4. Advice?

Background: Project is a 1-hour, spoken-word PowerPoint slide presentation, about 60 slides, about 1 min each. Audio has been split into one CD-quality, mono .wav file for import to each slide. All clips are excerpts from the same, full-length .wav file. Nothing fancy, no captions, animations, etc. Just one dog and one pony in this show. Using fully updated version of Captivate 4.
Problem: Upon export to SWF, any changes I make to the audio quality settings do not take. That is, I still get a huge SWF file with full CD quality sound. SWF file size is ~47MB. Should be closer to ~25MB or even less at my target quality of 11kHz, 24kbps.
What I've tried: I have adjusted both the Audio Settings for the project, as well as the SWF Size and Quality settings (in the Preferences dialog box, Project category) by alternately selecting "Low" or unchecking the "Retain slide quality settings" box, then synchronizing the settings with the settings in the Audio Settings. I have also tried selecting and unselecting all SWF compression options.
I have tested this on two computers, one XP Pro, the other Vista Home Premium 64-bit. Both Captivate installations are fully updated. Same results on both.
Things that make me go "Hmm": I can create a Captivate project with one slide as a test and achieve full flexibility of audio kHz and kbps upon export to SWF; that is, it works just like I want. However, as soon as I add a second slide, my export quality reverts to full CD-quality. I've even tried this with an extremely simple project with no PowerPoint slide, no skin, just blank white slides. So, I do not think it is an issue connected to some other aspect of the project in question.
So... Is this a bug? The odd thing is that this process has worked in the past. It seems that it has suddenly become a problem. If it were on only one computer, I would reinstall, but given the same outcome on two very different computers, it seems very unlikely that the same quirk has materialized in both.
    Advice? Thanks. -Steve

    Hi Steve,
This is a long shot, but you could try copying and pasting all of your slides into a new instance of Captivate. If you have specified certain audio settings Captivate should pick these up when you export. If not then it is possible that your CP file has become corrupted.
If that doesn't work, please file a bug report using the web address I have included below.
Adobe Captivate Feature Request/Bug Report Form
It would be interesting to see if the CP team can shed any light on why this is happening.

  • Export Advice

    Morning Everyone
I have decided to tackle a serious backup on my Aperture images as they are part of a larger move ( possibly to LR but I'm waiting like everyone else )So, I am systematically going through each folder ( or project ) and exporting versions, creating the same folder structure on external drive as my Aperture Library.
    I have a few questions.
file type >> I am assuming that I will simply leave any referenced masters where they are and export full .JPGS.
once I do this for my entire library, is there any reason to keep around the referenced MASTERS ? I could just drag ( copy ) in the Versions from my backup and save all that space assuming I'm not going to be working on them again.
Aperture has a separate export for 'Metadata' - what exactly does this do ? When I name it and drop it in the same Project folder nothing appears. Is it copying all the rating, label and keyword info ? And why wouldn't it just do this in the first place ?
Has anyone heard about Metadata being recognized by LR ?
Once I am done with this I was simply going to take everything 2 years and older and export it as a new library and archive it. Anyone been through this before that provide any direction ?
Any advice / tips etc greatly appreciated ( ya, I'm talking to you Leonie ; > )
    JJ

My advice it to rigorously separate the three items you are considering.
A back-up is a copy of your system and the files that you are currently working with.  Your Aperture Library is easy to back-up.  It's a file.  Any Referenced Originals are easy to back up.  They are files.  Back-ups are used to restore files in the case of drive failure or file corruption.  You should back up every computer file you use, twice — that's three copies total — and never have all three copies in the same physical location.
An archive is a long-term storage of valued digital data.  Since it is long-term, it should be (as much as possible) program- and platform-independent.  You back-up work-in-progress.  You archive finished work that you will not use again.  Digital images should be archived in a lossless format.  JPG is not lossless, and is counter-indicated.  An archive of digital images is simply a lot of files, stored in a lossless format, on a media that you expect to endure longer than your need for the data.
Since an archive of digital images is stored as files, and you should not use any file without a back-up, you should back-up your archive — twice — and never store all three copies in the same physical location.
A portable dataset is temporary. It is used to move records from one database to another.  After a successful move, the portable dataset has no function, and should be destroyed.  What information you include, and in what format, depends entirely on the source and the target databases.
Each of the three datasets mentioned above — a back-up, an archive, and a portable dataset for transferring between databases — has specific uses and, therefore, specific forms.  They are not interchangeable.
Your working files are a given.
    Back-ups are, I hope, a given.
    Required:
Working copy.  Working copy back-up 1.  Working copy back-up 2.
What you archive, and how your archive it, are up to you.
There is no reason (that I know of) to archive data that remains part of your working set of (in this case) images.  Either retain it in your working set, or archive it.  Most people do not need an archive at all.
    Optional:
    Archive.  Archive back-up 1.  Archive back-up 2.
The portable dataset you will create to move your collection of digital images currently stored in Aperture to another database should be made and used for that purpose only.  If you are moving your image database from Aperture to Lightroom, find out what form that portable dataset should have.
    Temporary:
Portable dataset.  ← destroyed after target database is confirmed.
    HTH,
    —Kirby.
