Export on Red Hat 7.1 Oracle 8.1.7.2

I've been trying to export my oracle databases that I have on our linux machines. I have 2 oracle dbs on a linux machine with 2 cpus. 2 gig ram and 4 gig swap. I can run a full export at night when no one else is on the system but when I try to run an export during the day it just stops. And only 5 ppl or so are on the system at the time testing the programs. I've tried asking oracle but they haven't responded to me in over a week. I run the following command to export, which I would like to emphasize does work at night.
cat /archive/exp_prod.dmp | compress > /archive/exp_full.dmp.Z &
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/exp sys/'password' buffer=5000000 direct=y log=/archive/exp_full.out file=/archive/exp_prod.dmp full=y
As you can see I pipe the export through a file to compress it. Once it stops it never starts again. I've let it go for over 24hrs and nothing. It doesn't always stop at the same table. The actaul compress process after it stops is still taking 98% of cpu time but no more information is being sent through the pipe file and the export never gets off of the table it froze on. Now since it has worked before with no one else on the system I must believe it is a memory issue or parameter not set correctly with linux. What can I look at to help solve this problem?

The runinstaller program run ok has metioned previously but it
gives me errors during linking:
After copying the necessary files and all that initial
instalation work the linking phase runs smootly, it even link
correctly several Oracle tools like Oracle intermedia, Oracle
net8 client, and so on.
When the Oracle 8i server linking the problems start.
All errors are like this:
-> Error invoking target install of makefile
And the afected makefiles are numerous:
/OraHome1/network/lib/ins_net_server.mk
/OraHome1/network/lib/ins_oemagent.mk
/OraHome1/ldap/lib/ins_ldap.mk

Yes, the famous ctx is also giving me problems.
Moreover:The mentiones target .c files refered to in the makefile
script are all in their places!
I do not know what is happenig in this instalation.

I also tried to cover for the ld and gcc linker and compiler to
make sure they are the right version as is mentioned in another
thread... same thing!

    IBM 1.4.2 JDK (IBMJava2-AMD64-142-SDK-1.4.2-13.0.x86_64.rpm) will be required for the SAP installation on Linux. then set JAVA_HOME accordingly which points to IBM Jdk.
    Please refer SAP Note 1172419 - Linux: Supported Java versions on the x86_64 platform. The Download location is mentioned there in the SAP Note.

    Hi.
    We have to understand which Red Hat Linux patches are relevant for our db, apps and discoverer tiers.
    If, for example, our datbase is up to 10.2.0.2.0, I would need to know up to which patch level we should be looking at.
    There seem to be hundreds of security patches available to Red Hat users on Oracle, so I would like to understand how to know up to which patch we should be patching up to.

  • Installing DB 9.2.0 on Red Hat 9

    Can You help me with this? I am trying to install a test Oracle 9.2.0 Data Base on a Red Hat 9 WS. I have followed all recommandations found in these links:

    and yes, I have set LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1
    I have even tried with LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5
    All packages and libs mentioned in these these documents are inplace and the Linux OS i up to date with all Red Hat up2date packages. The kernel is 2.4.20-8.
    The oracle installer always stops in the first steps after copying the java environment to /tmp/Ora****/ saying the famous words "Error occured installing Java Runtime Enviroment 1.1.8.0
    After searching Metalink I tried to edit the oraparam.init file to point to a J2skd1.3.1_02 on the disk and running the installer from ../Disk1/install/linux directory. It works and the installer installs this java jre in the /tmp/Ora**** directory, but the installer stops with the same error message as before.
    When I look in the Oracle_Home logs I find no hints in the *log file and the *.err file i empty.
    I know that Oracle is not certified on Red Hat 9, but this installation is a prof-of-concept installation for a customer. I cannot except the customer to invest in an Red Hat AS and Oracle DB, if the installer cannot even run on a Red Hat 9 as the first test.
    As seen in this forum many other persons run Oracle on RH9.0 WS, so it I am a bit frustrated.

    Thanks for your reply, but I think it is the linking process of the jre 1.1.8 which causes the problem. I guess,the first steps during installation are these:
    When you type ./runInstall the installer copies a jre version 1.1.8 from Disk1 to the /tmp/Ora*** directory and start the GUI on that runtime engine. That is why I can configure oraparam.ini to point to a j2sdk1.3.1 version on the disk. The installer just copies this jdk to the /tmp/Ora* directory and starts the GUI on the 1.3.1 JVM, it finds in that directory. So the GUI runs on a jre 1.3.1.
    The problem occurs when the installer starts linking the jre 1.1.8 from Disk1 with the kernel. By setting LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1 one should circumvent the problems with the new kernel thread library, which Oracles 1.1.8 jre does not support. Unfortunately this does happen on this PC.

  • Running OEM Web Server on Red Hat AS

    First of all, is such a thing even possible? I have seen conflicting reports that yes, you can run the console from a Unix/Linux environment if you have a Netscape browser, and no, you can't actually RUN the Web Browser from Linux (that only Win environments were supported).
    So who is right? I know that the oem_webstage directory exists, and can rig it so that the emwebsite.html page shows up (essentially by putting all the forms in the htdocs folder), but I don't see any other way to configure it. I can also find no documentation on this on the web. Can anyone who has had experience with this tell me conclusively one way or another?
    I am trying to run Netscape 7.1 on a Red Hat AS system, Oracle 9i. I want to be able to run OEM through the web browser. Sounds simple, but I have hit too many roadblocks.

    Yes. We do it here. You need a DB for the OEM repository, probably in it's own instance.
    The standalone OEM and webserver ones are almost identical, but there's a few minor differences. (For example, standalone will allow you to add more than 1 DB with the same instance name, but webserver will not).

    :permission denied.
    I have installed jre1.1.6 v5 downloaded from
    blackdown.org as a root user.
    I am unable to understand why this permission denied problem is coming.

    You need JDK. the same version of jre that u used.
    then export CLASSPATH to point to classes.zip of the jdk.

    Any workaround for the above error.

    try execute: export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1 before you run ./runInstaller

If you have update CDs, you can use the boot CD from the update instead of the boot CD from the base release to automatically apply all updates during the installation. All updates from Red Hat are supported by Oracle.
    1.     Boot the server using the first CD.
    o     You may need to change your BIOS settings to allow booting from the CD.
    2.     The boot screen appears with the boot: prompt at the bottom of the screen.
    o     Select Enter to continue with a graphical install on the console. (For other installation methods and options, refer to the Red Hat Installation Guide.)
    o     The installer scans your hardware, briefly displays the Red Hat splash screen, and then begins a series of screen prompts.

    Installation will start while installing and reaches at ~50% then go to /oracle/appsrv/infra/bin open relink file and change at line # 50 i.e. remove 2 brackets
    ] –o [  and at line # 102 make= /usr/ccs/bin/make to /usr/bin/make remove ccs and save the file
    There will no error in installation in infrastructure
    Same as done with relink file in Middle tier installation. I would like to turn ur attention for a serious problem no one asked about it. Here u have seen that a script make 3 file in /usr/local/bin for infrastructure and middle tier when u finished infrastructure’s installation plz rename that 3 files as
    Mv coredb coredb-infra
    Mv dbhome dbhome-infra
    Mv ora     â€¦     ora…-infra
    If u overwrite that files by creating same name of middle tier files no problem.
    When problem comes?
    AS will work fine but when u have to install patches on AS then problem comes if u have overwrite that files. So plz rename them before creation of same files of middle tier. Thanx

    I tried uname -a and it returns the following:
    Linux NLABLINUX 2.4.21-20.EL.c0 #1 Thu Sep 9 02:07:03 EDT 2004 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
    We have the following problems:
    1. I am having a box running RHEL 3.0 (got from centos.org). I have Oracle 10g running ok. Now I tried to install ASMLIB downloaded from technet. The files are:
    rpm -Uvh oracleasm-2.4.21-EL-1.0.3-1.i686.rpm \
         oracleasmlib-1.0.0-1.i386.rpm \
         oracleasm-support-1.0.3-1.i386.rpm \
    When I tried to install these files, I got the following error:
    Checking for Red Hat enterprise kernel: [FAILED]
    Also when I try to run /etc/init.d/oracleasm , I get the same error

    2. We created 4 raw partitions /dev/raw/raw1 - 4 using raw command.

  • Installation of OracleAS 10g on Red Hat Linux ES 3.0

    Installation of Oracle AS 10g on RedHat ES 3.0
    Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3

    Start
    Oracle 10g is certified to run the base release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 (Advanced Server and Enterprise Server) without updates. If you have update CDs, you can use the boot CD from the update instead of the boot CD from the base release to automatically apply all updates during the installation. All updates from Red Hat are supported by Oracle.
    1.     Boot the server using the first CD.
    o     You may need to change your BIOS settings to allow booting from the CD.
    2.     The boot screen appears with the boot: prompt at the bottom of the screen.
    o     Select Enter to continue with a graphical install on the console. (For other installation methods and options, refer to the Red Hat Installation Guide.)
    o     The installer scans your hardware, briefly displays the Red Hat splash screen, and then begins a series of screen prompts.
    3.     Language Selection
    o     Accept the default.
    4.     Keyboard Configuration
    o     Accept the default.
    5.     Welcome Screen
    o     Click on Next.
    6.     Mouse Configuration
    o     Accept the default.
    7.     Installation Type
    o     Select Custom.
    8.     Disk Partitioning Setup
    o     A thorough treatment of disk partitioning is beyond the scope of this article, which assumes that you are familiar with disk partitioning methods.
    (WARNING: Improperly partitioning a disk is one of the surest and fastest ways to wipe out everything on your hard disk. If you are unsure how to proceed, stop and get help, or you will risk losing data!)
    This article uses the following partitioning scheme, with ext3 for each filesystem:
    The 9GB disk on the first controller (/dev/sda) will hold all Linux and Oracle software and contains the following partitions:
    - 100MB /boot partition
    -1,500MB swap partition—Set this to at least twice the amount of RAM in the system but to no more than 2GB (32-bit systems do not support swap files larger than 2GB). If you need more than 2GB of swap space, create multiple swap partitions.
    -7,150MB root partition— This partition will be used for everything, including /usr, /tmp, /var, /opt, /home, and more. This was done purely to simplify installation for the purposes of this guide. A more robust partitioning scheme would separate these directories onto separate filesystems.
    9.     Boot Loader Configuration
    o     Accept the default.
    10.     Network Configuration
    o     It is usually best to configure database servers with a static IP address. To do so, click on Edit.
    o     A pop-up window appears. Uncheck the Configure using DHCP box, and enter the IP Address and Netmask for the server. Be sure that Activate on boot is checked, and click on OK.
    o     In the Hostname box, select manually and enter the hostname.
    o     In the Miscellaneous Settings box, enter the remaining network settings.
    11.     Firewall Configuration
    o     For the purposes of this walk-through, no firewall is configured. Select No firewall.
    12.     Additional Language Support
    o     Accept the default.
    13.     Time Zone Selection

  • Oracle Upgrade 8.1.7.4 to 10g in Red hat linux

    Dear All,
    We are planning to upgrade our oracle database from 8i to 10g along with the Redhat linux upgrade from  2.4.9-e 27 ent to Red Hat Linux 5. In my study and also from Installation guides and oracle upgrade guides I made sure that its possible to upgrade our database from 8.1.7.4.
    So I have planned the below options to do the same and not sure about the possibilities. If anyone have thoughts and idea on the same please suggest me.
    We dont have plan to migrate the development hardware and the sap version is 4.7E
    Option 1: Upgrade the Linux to 5 and then upgrading the database to 10g usign upgrade assistant tool
    Option 2: Export the database using sapinst tool and then crashing the server. Installing linux5 and importing the database using sapinst tool.(I am aware this is not a good idea since there is no migration in hardware but it will be helpful in production since we are migrating the production system).
    Option 3: Performing DBUA assistant in development and sapinst method in production.(helpful in disaster recovery)
    Could you please suggest on the same?
    My query is that.
    If i am performing oracle export from 8.1.7.4 and if i am import the same in oracle 10g using the sapinst tool. Will this work? or it will create a problem in table level. I am looking for answers for this Question. Kindly explain me on this.
