Export parameters for iDVD compatibility

Hi everybody,
I export some keynote presentation with sound capture to quicktime.
When I collected several of those exports, I'd love to create a DVD with iDVD.
When I drop the generated quicktime movies onto iDVD, iDVD will re-encode them to a proper iDVD format for burning.
I noticed that when I use Share->Transfer to... -> iDVD, Keynote generates a quicktime movie that is included in iDVD but that does NOT require a new encoding of the movie.
My question is: Which Keynote quicktime export parameters should I use in Keynote to prevent re-encoding in iDVD? (codec, format, speed, throughput, etc. are they all important?)
Many thanks for your help.

Hi,
Check the below code
PERFORM get_materialbatch CHANGING i_mchb.
FORM get_materialbatch  CHANGING fp_i_mchb TYPE ty_tab_mchb
The values that are changed will get updated in the i_mchb..

  • What export method for iDVD?

    Hi,
Apologies if this is posted elsewhere, but if it is I can't find it.
I need to use iDVD to author a DVD using a PPro CS3 project. "Why don't you use Encore?" I hear you say. Don't ask. Encore is not an option and I have to submit the DVD to the client today.
My project is PAL HDV 1440x1080i. iDVD does not import MPEG1 or MPEG2, and when I try to export a Quicktime movie using the Media Encoder the quality is consistently terrible. I tried exporting to Microsoft AVI, but it is incredibly slow (estimated time 4 hours for an 8-minute project doesn't sound right).
Please can someone point me in the right direction for correct export settings for a high-quality Quicktime or AVI movie which I can import into iDVD.
    Thanks.

exactly, jim. in my period of temporary insanity trying to get the project submitted in time, i had forgotten about the limitations of dvd.
on another topic altogether i've had a peek at the thread on film look and the dv2film website. nice one. on my project i needed to remove an unintended vignette effect from about 8 clips but the process just seemed too daunting. one of these days...

  • Exporting movie for IDVD.

I have been posting some recent problems I'm having with dropped frames when viewing on timelime in FCE 2.0.3. I am now encountering a dialog box "file: I/O error" when I try to export the project as a Quicktime file for use in IDVD. I can find nothing in my manual on what an I/O error is. I can't seem to be able to export the project at all now. I have recently moved up to FCE 2(with Tiger), I was using FCE1 (Panther) before and rarely had problems. Has anyone encountered this problem? Thanks, Dave.

    Tom,
I have tried exporting the project both ways--as self-contained and not self-contained. The timeline is rendered and mixed down. I'm exporting to the same hard drive as FCE is on(I have only one).
I have been having problems playing the project from the timeline as well. It locks up, drops frames, and then continues. It could be that these two problems are somehow related. I recently upgraded to FCE 2 from 1, and upgraded from panther to tiger. Not sure if this has somnethging to do with it. I have been trying to get Apple Help...but they don't know a lot about Final Cut. They say I have enough RAM(1gb).

  • 16:9 Export Problem for iDVD

I need to export a project shot on a Panasonic HVX-200 using the P2 cards. For a standard def DVD I down converted the footage from 720 24p to 720x480, 23.98 fps, anamorphic 16:9 sequence. When I export using Quicktime Export I alway get a movie that is squeezed. I have tried the Anamporphic settings. I have tried Custom and selecting anamorphic and neither of these work.
Something to note: In my FCP Canvas window my video doesn't appear with a letterbox in a square frame but it has the correct aspect ratio.
    What am I doing wrong?
    I am using FCP 4.5.
    Thanks for the help.
    cja

Google for a droplet called anamorphicizer. Run the export from FCP thru that and take THAT movie to iDVD.
This is just a script that does this, I think... open the exported file in QT player and Apple-J... then click on presentation tab (I think) and change something on the bottom of that to CLEAN.
Sorry -- I'm trying to do this off the top of my head.

  • Best export settings for iDVD?

Is there something better than "Share to Large"?
Last night I tried an export to QT as DV ("best quality", 1440x1080, interlaced 4:3) and this produced hideous results when encoded onto the DVD. Very jagged edges. Surprising, since the exported movie was gorgeous before encoding. Results like this may be what causes so many posts here about poor quality. Share to Large gave much, much better results.
I have a 3-disk project I've completed that I'm generally happy with. But I've been wondering if I could tweak up the quality a bit by exporting the iMovie project to something other than the "Share to Large" approach. That produces amazingly good results for the level of compression it achieves (about 20:1).
uh oh: I found another check box that told QT to de-interlace the source video. Not sure what effect this had.

I've finally completed my testing of various exports from iMovie 09 followed by a burn to DVD using iDVD at "Professional". DVD images were evaluated both when viewed on the Mac's DVD player and and finished DVDs were viewed on my Sony blu-ray player and Panasonic plasma TV (720p). I found no example where the disk viewed on the TV was any different than the disk image previewed on the Mac.
Bottom line - From now on I'll be using a QT export H264 at 1440x1080 when time allows, and 720x540 when I need it a little faster. Export to H264 takes much longer than exporting to AIC, but it's worth it in my testing.
In all my testing it was hard to find anything that looked better than the iMovie Share-to-Media Browser-Large option. My SD video footage looked pretty much the same no matter what I did; it was the photos that were more affected by export choice. DV and AIC were clearly inferior, giving pixelated titles, jagged, wiggly edges and so on.
Photos in the hi-rez H264 output, when viewed at double size on the Mac, were clearly sharper than the standard "large" output. I can't swear I can see the resolution difference on my TV (50", viewed from 12 feet), although I can tell the two resolutions are somewhat different when there is panning. I think the slightly sharper hi-res image actually wiggles a bit more.
I've set my blu-ray player sends a 720p image to the plasma (the most it can display). Is my progressive-vs-interlaced setup the reason why I'm getting a better result with H264 than AIC? I thought the latter was the "recommended" choice but it's very poor for my use. On the other hand, most other folks I might give a DVD to are still using old-school equipment. Should I be previewing results on an interlaced system?

  • Best export format for iDVD

I am compiling a movie in QT Pro from lots of various different iMovie projects. This will then be imported to iDVD. Is the best export setting from iMovie "large", or is there something better I should use?
(I have QT Pro) and have tried QT export with "compressor:none" and the files are great quality but unfeasible large).

I'll be honest .... I'm still shooting MiniDv tape on an old Sony 3 chip TRV900 and importing into iMovie as well as FCP via Firewire. I guess my age is starting to show. I have not yet taken the AVCHD plunge so the advice I can offer you is limited.
Anyway, so essentially you are shooting in AVCHD with the final objective of burning that to a Dvd. Is this correct? Per apple's help menu at least .... this format should work. I'm sure you've read it but I will post it here for reference purposes only.

  • Best Export Format for iDVD to cut down on multiplexing and processing

My processor is what it is and my Ram has been optimized.  Is there some video/audio format/ bit rate that will require less time to convert and process?
I understand that MPEG2, mpeg4, H.264, avi, and all seem to take far too long. I prefer using FCPX and Wondershare to do my converting.
Also whenever I have a random burning error its almost always a “multiplexing error” so maybe if I make the “multiplexing” a little easier maybe I can prevent that headache.
Any thoughts about inve$ting in the fastest burners available?  Isn’t the actual “burn” process the very last step that usually only takes about 2 minutes anyway?
    Thank you in advance!

    KidVid wrote:

All depends on what format you need for what purpose. If you need a DVD it'll have to be MPEG-2 or for web use it'll have to be h.264. Other than that there are tons of codecs and containers available. All conversion takes time and to cut down on that time you will need a faster machine.

To avoid burn errors in iDVD create a disk image of your project, test that image file with DVD Player, and, if satisfied, burn with any dedicated disc burning app at no more than 4x to avoid errors.

    See the speed limit above.

  • Import and export parameters.

    Hi Experts,
If I am using import n export parameters for getting data from a different program into my main program, do i have to declare the variables again in the second program.
    For ex:
The main report has the following piece of code:
    data: int1 type I,
            int 2 type I.
export: int1 to memory id 'mem1',
               int2 to memory id 'mem2'.
    submit report 'call_report' and return.
The call_report has the following piece of code:
import: int1 from memory id 'mem1',
               int2 from memory id 'mem2'.
So if I am not declaring int1 n int2 explicitly in this report, i get the syntax error that they r not defined.
My confusion is that when v r exporting int1 n int2 from the main report, then y is the explicit declaration required?
Is ther no other way out than decalring int1 n int2 in the call_report.
I will reward all the helpful answers.
    Thanks,
    Ajay.

    Hi Ajay,
With EXPORT u r not exporting the variable and its definition but the content(data) of the variable u r exporting. So if u want to get the content in another program then u have to declare the variables of same type in the calling program also. Similarly with IMPORT u are not downloading the attributes of the field but only the content of variable u exported earlier.
Another point to remember is u have declare the variable in the second report with the same name and type as of first report.
Also check below piece of code which is similar to ur req
    First report
    REPORT Z75694_TEST .
    DATA: i_data TYPE i VALUE '1111'.
EXPORT i_data TO MEMORY ID 'VINOD'.
    CHECK sy-subrc IS INITIAL.
    WRITE: 'Exported'.
    SUBMIT Z75694 AND RETURN.
    Second report
    REPORT z75694.
    DATA i_data TYPE i.
IMPORT i_data FROM MEMORY ID 'VINOD'.
    WRITE:/ i_data.
    It is working fine.
    Hope this clarified ur doubt.
    Thanks,
    Vinod.

  • Is there a way (script option, exporter option) to export a .psd/.psb file with nested layersets to another layered .psd file with a flat layer structure for greater compatibility? (i.e. CS6/CC/CC '14 to CS4 or older?)

Just looking for a solution short of having to go in and manually delve through hundreds of layers and reorganize the .psd.  There's a lot of vector elements, layer effects and blending modes as well.  It'd be nice to see Adobe include an exporter for older Photoshop versions that can take a newer file and regenerate it making whatever necessary changes to maintain compatibility across older Photoshop versions and even for cross-compatibility.  I know that's not necessarily in their best interests for additional sales, but it is in the end-user's best interests when they collaborate with others across various file and application formats.

The first problem here is Layer Styles, if I understand what you are trying to do correctly. You can have arbitrarily nested Layer Sets/Groups (each with its own Layer Style) that contain Layers with their own Layer Styles. This means that for a nested layer, you would have to take it's Layer Style and merge it with the containing Group(s) layer styles in the correct order. Then you have to do the same thing with Layer/Vector Masks and whatever else is involved. It's a non-trivial piece of work. It's not intractable, however.
There is also the problem that some parts of the Layer Styles are binary blobs that make merging at the JS level impossible.
If someone has implemented this, I would love to see the implementation.
What you actually need may be a lot less complicated than the general case. If so, you may be able to find someone to help you out.
    I wish you luck.

  • Exporting for iDVD - time limits or quality settings

can anyone recommend export settings for 4:3 PAL in DV quality, for using iDVD to burn to disc?
NOTE: the project is 2hrs 6mins long - will this matter in iDVD?
    thanks

iDVD will only burn a maximum of 2 hours so you will have to shorten it. Sometimes, depending on the circumstances it will not even manage that. So I would either cut it to well under 2 hours or split it into 2 DVDs.
All you need to do to export to iDVD is this :-
    1. File>Export>QuickTime Movie.
    2. In the Save window that appears make sure that Audio and Video is included and to save time DESELECT the "Make Movie Self-Contained" box.
    3. Press "Save" and wait a few minutes for it to make the QT reference movie.
    4. Open iDVD and import the movie and do whatever else you wish.
You can expect the encoding/burning process to take well over 4 hours even on a very fast Mac.

  • Anamorphic DV export for iDVD - method?

    Help!
I am using FCP 3.1 and iDVD 5.
I am editing an anamorphic sequence of PAL DV footage captured from a Panasonic hvx202 - recorded to tape in native 16:9 DV.
I want to export this sequence from FCP in a format for iDVD.
In order for a DVD player to replay in a 16:9 ratio I understand I need export as 720 x 405 ... that is, 'stretch' the image back to 16:9? ... Yes?
    I can see two options:
    1. Create Final Cut Pro movie:
    a. I assume I make a Self Contained movie?
    b. Do I use a Custom 16:9 setting of 720 x 405
    c. Do I leave the anamorphic 16:9 button unchecked?
    d. Do I use DV PAL compression? Or No compression?
    e. I assume motion settings would be 25 fps?
    2. Export as a Quicktime movie
I assume I use the Options settings and so:
    a. Do I compress as Video, DV PAL, or none?
    b. I assume motion settings would be 25 fps?
    c. There is a default checked box for a keyframe every 24 frames: necessary? should it be 25 frames?
    d. I assume I set the Size to 720 x 405 ?
    e. Do I de-select "Prepare for Internet Streaming" ?
    Help will be greatly appreciated,
    Bill

First, your FCP sequence has to be 16:9.
In order to get iDVD5 to letterbox your footage you need to export from FCP using quicktime conversion (not quicktime movie)
Change the size to either NTSC or PAL 16:9 (I think it only gives you 1 option for NTSC or PAL 16:9) and under settings change the compression to match your project.
For some reason QuicktimePro and iDVD don't see the anamorphic flag created in FCP for Quicktime movie.

  • What format needed to export for iDVD

I have FCP 6 and I am exporting an HD video for iDVD. However, when I select "current settings" when imported into iDVD - it plays the preview beautifully. But when I burn a DVD in iDVD - audio ONLY  - no picture.  I also previewed my .mov file in Quick Time - same thing.  Audio - NO PICTURE. What up??

The iDVD forum will probably refer you to the FCP forum.
Switch from "Current Settings" to "DV-NTSC".  Depending on the processor speed of your computer, it might take some time to process, but you'll have what iDVD expects.
Since you're using FCP 6, you're probably using a version of iDVD that does not see widescreen source properly.
Which version of iDVD are you using?  With the picture formatted for widescreen, the 16x9 HD picture will look squeezed into the 720x480 of DV-NTSC and iDVD may not detect this (DVD Studio Pro usually detects it, but if it does not you can set it manually).  You might want to create a DV-NTSC Sequence in FCP, drop your "current settings" moving into that and format for either letterbox (you'll be rendering what's commonly called a "hard matte") or format for center cut (you'll be rendering to "full frame" - if you have any title cards, they will have to be placed within the center cut area of an HD frame to not get cropped).

  • Exporting QT with Chapter markers for iDVD

When I export a QT with Chapter markers for iDVD I get one movie file then a number of "AV" files - what are these and what do I do with them?
    workflow as follows:
1.Place chapter markers in timeline using mm the Add Chapter Markers
    2. set in/out points in timeline
    3. export quicktime movie
    4. select include Chapter Markers and include audio/video
    5. do NOT select recompress all frames
    6. DO select make self contained movie.
    7. Open exported movie file in Quicktime and chapter markers are present
    8. import ONLY the movie file to iDVD (NOT the AV files?) and answer yes to read all chapter markers
    9. burn seems to work fine but when I playback on DVD player there is digital stuttering in the picture
Any ideas on how to remedy the problem?
    thanks in advance
    patrick

The project is only 75 minutes. Do think it is the codec that iDVD is using that is causing the stutter. I assumed that it always encodes using MPG2.
Any idea what the AV files are?
When I export as an uncompressed DV stream the file is 15 GB.
When I export as uncompressed QT I get one file (movie) at 2.5 GB then
5 more "AV" files that are each 2.5 as well. So when I import the movie file without the AV files am I missing something?
Should I look into DVD Studio Pro? I have version 1.5 but I am fairly unfamiliar with it.

  • Problem exporting for iDVD

I have a completed movie (using iMovie 2.1.1 and Mac OS 9.2.2) that won't export. I've tried exporting to both iDVD and Quicktime.
The process begins normally but about 8 minutes into the predicted 40 minute duration, the "exporting" message changes back to the video clip. The output MOV file vanishes.
The output disk has PLENTY of space remaining. The clip that is being processed at the failure point plays just fine in iMovie. But I've tried the export several times now and the failure appears to happen at or near the same frame each time. Is there some hidden message file or any other technique that would help me determine what is wrong?
    Gary

    Hi
+The output disk has PLENTY of space remaining.+
Nearly of no interest BUT How much free space is there on the internal boot hard disk ?
I would secure a minimum of 25Gb at least.
    To iDVD
Don't use Share to iDVD - but -
    • Close iMovie
    • Find Your movie project - icon with Star on it
    • Open iDVD and import Your movie project
    How does this play.

  • How to log input parameters for Function Modules?

    Hi,
I need to create a Logging system to trace input parameters for function modules.
The log functionality could be done by developing a class method or a function module (For example 'write_log'), and calling it within each function module that I want to log. The 'write_log' code should be independent from the interface of the Function Module that I want to log.
For example, I'd like to write a function/class method that can log both these functions modules:
    Function DummyA
       Input parameters: A1 type char10, A2 type char10.
    Function DummyB
       Input parameters: B1 type char20, B2 type char20, B3 type char20, B4 type Z_MYSTRUCTURE
    Now the questions...
    - Is there a "standard SAP" function that provide this functionality?
    - If not, is there a system variable in which I can access runtime all parameters name, type and value for a particular function module?
    - If not, how can I loop at Input parameters in a way that is independent from the function module interface?
Thank you in advance for helping!

check this sample code. here i am capturing only parameters (import) values. you can extend this to capture tables, changin, etc.
