Export PDF from CS3 Issues

I am trying to export a PDF from InDesign CS3; however I am having issues with images moving when butted up against bars and/or background color set. First, when image has the pic boxed colored (which it really shouldn't) we receive a slight stroke around image. The files come like this from the customer, so forget not having a color, they are the customer. We have figured out that if the pic box has an object style applied to it (none +), which it shouldn't, it creates the slight stroke. Change the object setting to none, and it works fine. Also it does not matter if the image has been scaled up or down; it still displays the stroke with an object style.
The main problem is when a pic box butts up against color bar for some type of artistic design. The image is sizing down like a hairline and not butting to the color box in all fashions. What is funny though, the pic box has no object styling, but the colored box does because adding a color is adding to the object style (none +). I am exporting with no compression and high resolution transparency. These are the same settings we have used for years with no issues. It has to be a CS3 glitch. Anyone come across export issues in CS3 InDesign??

In the Output box, click Ink Manager. Click all spots to Process. This is if you don't mind if it's going to print, or be viewed, CMYK. We usually use Compatibility Acrobat 5 also.
This was our way of dealing with the "artifacts" as Adobe calls them. Not sure if it's your issue or not.
Good luck.

  • Font issue in exported PDF from indesign

Font issue in exported PDF from indesign:
In Indesign file we have kept a sentence in “Univers LT Std” (San serif font) with all caps style that was orginally in lower case. Refer below
When we selected the sentence in exported PDF some of the characters are not selected. Refer below.
If we enable “create tagged PDF“ in export PDF setting, then the problem is solved. Refer below.
Can you please check why this problem happened? In another project also we have faced this same problem but different font “Frutiger LT Std” with all caps style. Here also same San serif font. Please check and advise to solve this issue permanently.

Without tags a PDF is a silly amount of letters, images and lines, with tags all itams a kept in their semantic context. So work with tags as it is the only way to get correct selections and export to other file types like Word DOCX.
Without tags InDesign reads from left to right from top to bottom and the font geometry might influence the correct order of letters.
Why should anyone work without tags today? If you open a tagged PDF in Acrobat DC it is much faster than without tags.

I just started a free trial of the Adobe XI product that allows me to create an editable PDF. I'm done creating the form and ready to export it. When I click Export PDF from the File menu, it says Adobe encountered an unexpected error. What am I doing wrong?

Good to know  — there is no such application as "Adobe XI".
"Adobe" is the name of the company.
"XI" is indicative of the use of either Acrobat XI or Reader XI.
Neither Acrobat XI Pro (for which Adobe provides a free, fully functional 30-day trial) nor Adobe Reader XI (the free to download and use PDF viewer that Adobe provides) have  an "Export PDF" entry under "File".
"Export PDF" only is present in Adobe Reader XI over on the right on the "Tools" panel.
The "Tools" panel provides a way for a user of Adobe Reader XI to connect to various By Subscription online services (gotta pay eh).
Export PDF is one of these. A subscription lets you send a PDF file to the online internet service (aka "cloud" service). The service then exports to a supported file format (Word / Excel / ...) and the user selects / directs where the output file is to be saved on the user's local machine.
Of course to use any of the online subscription services one must have an active (paid up in full) subscription to the service.
So ---- As described the puzzle pieces don't fit eh.
What specific Adobe (the company) applications are you using?
Acrobat XI Pro? Adobe Reader XI? Both?
    Be well....

  • Does anyone know how to use pages so you can export pdfs from the internet and automatically drag words from the document into the file name of the pdf (i.e., author, title of a scientific paper)

Does anyone know how to use pages so you can export pdfs from the internet and automatically drag words from the document into the file name of the pdf (i.e., author, title of a scientific paper). For example, if I am downloading a paper by smith called "Surgery" that was published in 2002, it will automatically set the file name in the download to smith- surgery 2002. I have heard pages is smart enough to do this.
    thank you

Pages can export only its own documents. They may be exported as PDF, MS Word, RTF or Text files.
Pages can import (ie. Open a file as, or Insert a file into, a Pages document) documents in several formats, but won't rename the document as you describe. Documents that can be Opened (eg. Text, AppleWorks 6 WP, MS Word files) are converted to Pages documents, and retain their original names, with .pages replacing the original file extension. Files that can be Inserted (generally .jpg, .pdf and other image files) become part of the existing Pages file and lose their names.
It may be possible, using AppleScript, to extract the text you want and to Save a Pages file using that text as the filename, but that would depend in part on being able to identify which text is wanted and which is not.
How will the script determine where the author's name begins and where it ends?
How will the script recognize the beginning and of the title, an decide how much of the title to use in the filename?
How will the script recognize the year of publication?
For papers published in a specific journal, with a strict format for placing each of these pieces on information, or containing the needed information as searchable meta data in the file, this might be possible. But it would require knowledge of the structure of these files, and would probably handle only papers published in a specific journal or set of journals.
Outside my field of knowledge, but there are some talented scripters around here who might want to take a closer look.
    Best of luck.
    Regards,
    Barry

Why can't I seem to subscribe to Export PDF from outside N America? I'm using the Uk site...

    Hi Steve,
ExportPDF is definitely available in the United Kingdom. However, it's necessary that you have an Adobe ID, and credit card and billing address from the same country in which you're trying to purchase a subscription.
If you are using an email address (Adobe ID), and credit card/billing address from the United Kingdom, and are still unable to subscribe, please let us know and we'll take it from there. (And, if you're receiving an error message when you try to subscribe, let us know. That will help us figure out what's going wrong.)
    Best,
    Sara

  • Although I have an Adobe subscription, and Adobe export PDF (from 12/12), I cannot open my Adobe PDF

Although I have been Adobe subscription, and export PDF from December 12 of 2012, I cannot open my PDF documents. When I attempt to do so, and Adobe screen pops up stating that I have to subscribe, even though Adobe recognizes by subscription from 12/12.
Would you please fix this problem ?
Is there anything I can do to fix this problem ? [email protected]

    Could you try these steps:
Choose Edit > Preferences (Win) or Adobe Reader > Preferences (Mac)
Click 'Online Services' on the left-hand side
Sign out of our Adobe ID and sign back in.
Try to convert your document again.
If you continue to have trouble, please verify that you can access the service via the web interface.  To do this:
Open a browser and navigate to http://exportpdf.acrobat.com/signin.html
Try to log in with your Adobe ID (email address) and password
Once logged in, follow the on-screen prompts to convert a file
Let us know if you're still having trouble and we'll try to help!

  • Export PDF from InDesign Book

Hi, I have a customer that has huge problems to export PDFs from InDesign Books. He has books with many documents with a total amount of 500-700 pages, when he try to export a PDF InDesign quit unexpectedly. I wrote a script for him that export the PDF from the book without the progress bar, and sometimes it solves the problem but sometimes not, and I have a "out of memory" message. He must export multiple PDF from the same book and then merge those PDF with Acrobat but he has also interactivity sometimes and it's a nightmare to merge PDFs with interactive objects and bookmarks.  Someone of you have experienced the same problem (and maybe has a solution)?  Thank you

It seems that InDesign saturate the available RAM during the operation of gathering information before start to export, if I restart InDesign each time and export a selection of documents it works. I'm exporting now two separate PDF and it seems to work, but again only if I close and restart InDesign before exporting, I'm working on an iMac with an Intel 2.93 GHz i7 and a total of 8 GB RAM.

  • I can't create PDFs from CS3 programs in Acrobat Pro XI. Compatibility issue or just Acrobat?

I was just upgraded to Acrobat Pro XI this morning. InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator don't seem to be supported file types for creating a PDF from Acrobat.  While I usually create my PDFs from the authoring program, I occasionally need to make a lot of PDFs of different files at once, and making them from Acrobat makes sense instead of opening each individual file.
Is this just a compatibility issue? We have requested upgrades to CS6, but it will be a while before it gets approved (if it gets approved).  Did someone think it was a brilliant idea not to allow PDFs from the CS products to be created from Acrobat instead of the authoring program?

Can you describe your workflow a little more? Are you saying that you created PDFs of InDesign documents using Acrobat directly -- not using InDesign?
If that was possible in CS3, I must have missed it.
FWIW, I can't select CS6 InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop documents in Acrobat X. You can only select a handful of image formats, HTML or PostScript/EPS.

  • PDFs from CS3, ligatures not showing up on editor's PC, fonts appearance changed

Hi there. I just redesigned a magazine using the Hypatia Sans family, Avenir family and Arno Pro family. Avenir is the one font I have been using. With both Hypatia and Arno, the ligatures totally drop out of the pdf when viewed on a PC. And, when the editor made the edits in the "comment-able" pdf and sent it back to me, really none of the fonts appear right. Nothing looks like Hypatia or Arno or Avenir. The font flow seems to stay put, but that is about it.
I'm trying to pinpoint this a little tighter. But while I'm doing that, I wanted to put this out here on the discussion boards. Since this is an entire magazine, it's not going to be acceptable to proof it this way. I don't know if I can send a pdf to someone at Adobe to look at and see what they think is happening? I'm not finding much on the boards about this either so I don't know if it's a widespread issue or not.
    -K

    Follow up ...
Kellie and I discussed and problem and then she checked with the editor.
In fact, the editor was putting PDF comments on the InDesign-exported PDF file using MacOS Preview and then saving the file and returning it via e-mail to Kellie. MacOS Preview converted all of the text from Arno Pro, Avenir and Hypatia Sans to MacOS versions of Multiple Master Helvetica and Multiple Master Times fonts which clearly did not have all the glyphs of the original fonts.
The editor was advised to download and install the free Adobe Reader and guess what? The problem went away.
    Problem solved!
Sorry folks, but there is absolutely nothing that Adobe can do about this problem other than to continue to advise our customers to avoid PDF reader software that simply doesn't implement or doesn't properly implement the full PDF specification. (Note that this specification is an ISO standard now, not something that is secret or Adobe-proprietary in any way!)

  • Failure to fully export pdf from InDesign CS2 (application unexpectedly quits)

I found a TechNote detailing such an issue when you save or export a PDF after the Adobe application has been left idle for several days. However, when I tried both suggested solutions, I was unable to fix the problem. Some say it may be that I have a corrupt file, but the file saves normally and shows no signs of error.
When I try to export a file as a PDF file from InDesign CS2, I don't get an error message when I save the file. I only receive an error message when I try to open the resulting PDF file which has not been fully processed.
The error message I see is as follows:
    * Exporting a PDF file from InDesign CS2: The file appears to save without error, but when I open the file with Acrobat I see the error "Acrobat could not open '[file name]' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded). To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then print the document to Adobe PDF."
Thus, I tried solution 1: upgrading my Mac to Mac OS X v10.5. That didn't work.
Then I tried solution 2: save the file, and then restart the application. That also did not work.
The TechNote goes into further detail, explaining:
"When you save or export PDF files from Photoshop CS2, Acrobat 7, Illustrator CS2, or InDesign CS2, the application must reference the TemporaryItems file located in /tmp/501. Prior to Mac OS X.v10.4, Mac OS X regularly deleted files in the /tmp folder that had not been used or modified within a certain period (approximately two or three days). If an Adobe application is running but unused for several days, Mac OS X prior to version v10.4, would delete the TemporaryItems file. When you save or export a file as PDF, the Adobe application attempts to reference the no-longer existing TemporaryItems file which results in errors or faulty PDF creation.
When you restarting the Adobe application and then save or export a PDF, the application rebuilds the TemporaryItems file."
Does anyone have any other suggestions for a solution to my query?

Similar to you, I've just posted the following in the InDesign section:
Problems writing pdf from InDesign CS2
Hello everyone, I've just gone and bought myself a new 2.4ghz iMac and done all of the updates for Tiger so I'm now running 10.4.11. InDesign CS2 is version 4.0.5.
I have a simple A4 document with 3 placed images which is an updated version of many done previously. I've never had any trouble writing pdf's from them before until tonight on my new Mac. It seems to get about half way through and InDesign quits.
If I print to a pdf file then it's okay, but a bit long winded when you get used to exporting from InDesign.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Can't Choose Page Range when Exporting PDF from InDesign

Hi!  Ever since I upgraded to CS6 via your subscription, I can't choose a page-range when exporting to PDF from InDesign (8.0.1).  Here's a video demonstration of the problem so you can see the bug in action:  http://screencast.com/t/kYR1ACtNi
Are you aware of this bug?  If it's not a bug, how do I fix it?

Alternate layouts are used for things like horizontal and vertical orientations of the same layout for use on tablets. I suspect there's some coverage in the Help files -- being a print guy I don't mess with them.
It may be that you only have one layout and ID just shows you that one inthe dropdown. I can't recall that I ever used the dropdown to try to select the range -- I always just type what I need in the field.

  • Exported pdf from indesign drops punctuation when printed from adobe reader

  • How to export pdf from numbers with page breaks

I am trying to export a pdf from numbers that contains page breaks.  When i print the page breaks are created for printing automatically and i like scrolling with no page breaks while working on spreadsheet.  But, if export pdf the file becomes one long scrolling page.  Which is good on screen but when email recipient tries to print, it prints to a single page and type face is impossibly tiny to read.  I would like to export a view in which page breaks are included but can not seam to find the process (i have recently switched  from excel to numbers).

One thing you might try (if you haven't already) is to pretend you are printing your numbers document, but after you press the "Print..." button (perhaps after doing the "Print setup" thing) do "Save as PDF" instead of just printing it.  Presumably, this gives you the PDF that is used to do the print job.

  • Export pdf from adobe reader

    Hello,
I have a question about the export pdf feature in adobe reader X.
I saw that this feature costs 19.67 each year but it doesn't say if that is for 1 user or multiple.
    So my question is,
Do you need to buy an account for every user, or can multiple users use the same account.
    with kind regards,

    Gerald,
If you wish to give multiple users in your organization the ability to convert a PDF to an Office file, you may want to consider CreatePDF Team:
    https://www.acrobat.com/createpdf/en/team-plan.html
CreatePDF enables each user to convert to PDF, convert from PDF, as well as combine multiple files into a single PDF. And CreatePDF Team provides a volume discount and the ability to manage multiple subscriptions.
