Export PDF Rasterize Vectors but retain text

I'm running ID3 on 10.5.7 I have a file which is over 100pp and is very vector graphic heavy. My PDF's are coming out at 7.4MB on the smallest file size setting. I know I can raster the whole page but this makes alos makes the file size to big. What I want to do is have a half way setting and rasterize the vectors only and retain the text.
Is this possible? Can someone explain to me how to achieve this without going back and saving out all images from Illustrator as JPEG's and replaceing them in InDesign?

There was another thread about this just yesterday. http://forums.adobe.com/message/2090197#2090197
There was a comment in this link http://indesignsecrets.com/creating-smaller-pdfs-from-a-vector-dense-book.php that seemed to indicate you could rasterize the vector graphics, but not the text, by adjusting the balance in the flattener.

    John-
I wish I had something helpful to add but I can merely say that I am seeing the exact same problems on Aperture 3.0.3, MacOS X 10.6.3 with my quad-core i7 iMac (8GB RAM, 2.8Ghz).
The export I am attempting is:
RAW from Canon 50D >export> Email Medium - JPEG (image quality 8, 1024X1024, 72dpi, sRGB, include metadata)
    With these adjustments:
    RAW fine tuning
    Retouch (brushed)
    Exposure
    Enhance
    Curves
    H/S (brushed) x2
    Color
    B&W
    Sepia
    Dodge (brushed) x2
    Blur (brushed)
    Definition
    Skin Smoothing (brushed)
I am seeing some of the same side effects as others: must force-quit, can add/adjust effects but the preview updates are basically stopped.
In some instances, I've quit the app to find an export in the location I placed it but that's only happened sporadically.
I dearly hope the fix is coming...

  • Export PDF InDesign to Acrobat 5 - Text display & print GLITCH- letters overlap/stack in some words

    Hello,
This is my first post, so please be gentle
I'm having an issue with certain words and linked graphics when viewing and printing PDFs exported from InDesign CS5.5 to Acrobat 5.
The glitchy words appear to have the letters stacked on top of eachother creating a garbled mess.
When I scroll up/down in Acrobat 5, the word will change appearance... sometimes okay, sometimes messed up. The document will print as it's displayed in Acrobat (good or bad).
This issue is inconsistent... sometimes the same paragraph style or graphic used in other areas of the document will never look corrupt. The ones that display this issue always waivers back & forth.
This doesn't seem to be an issue in later versions of Acrobat. However, our company still has MANY users on Acrobat 5 and exporting to later versions will cause major compatibility problems.
Can someone tell me what could be causing this issue, and how I can correct it?
    Please see attached example below.
    Software / System details:
    Operating system is Windows XP
    View / Print from Acrobat 5.0.0 (3/22/2001)
File created in InDesign CS5.5 (version 7.5.1)   <---Update 12/8/11 2:53PM EST: Upgraded to version 7.5.2... Problem persists.
Graphics created in Illustrator CS5.1 (version 15.1.0)
The graphic is a black box with white text (Arial font) created in Illustrator CS5.1, and saved as AI file. Linked in InDesign file as anchored graphic.
The text is set up in InDesign as a paragraph style with first word as a nested style. ALL text is Arial font.

    ***UPDATE 12/9/11 10:35AM EST:
When I embed the Arial font upon export from InDesign (Subset fonts when percent of characters used is less than 0%), the problem words appear okay.
Why would there be an issue subsetting Arial font? I could understand if the font was unusual, but Arial????
So, the only solutions I could come up with is either print to pdf, or export with embedding all fonts (increases file size). If anyone has a better solution, please let me know.
    Thanks, crusius2.

After a few rounds of testing various things:
I applied a Master Page of None to all the pages - and the pages exported correctly.
I reapplied all the master pages to the various pages as needed. And again it exported incorrectly.
I deleted all the Master Pages - recreated them and reapplied them - and it's all working as normal.
Cause seems to be some sort of corruption with the Master Pages.

  • Exported PDF's from FormsCentral show text until submitted to 3rd party application

    Hello,
I'm running into an issue when trying to export a group of PDF forms that were created in FormsCentral they do show text when opened with Adobe Reader.  However if another program attempts to read the PDF it does not show the text input by end users into the form.  If I print the PDF file to PDF and then attempt to index it with different software the submitted text is usable.  I'd like to find a way to not have another step in the process to print to PDF for an existing PDF.  I'm not sure if the text is showing up as a background layer that isn't visible to other applications or if it is potentially the font which is Trebuchet MS.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hello Gen,
We are importing the forms into Banner Document Managment System.  Once they are saved as a PDF every part of the PDF is visible to the document except what the user has input.  Then when it is saved and searched for in Banner Document Management System the text no longer shows up when the PDF is opened.  They will show up if I print to PDF using CutePDF Writer and then upload into Banner Document Management System.  Banner Document Managment System is used to host all of the school's documents when they are submitted.
    Thanks for your assistance!

The ExportPDF online service is not included in Acrobat XI Pro, but Acrobat offers the same functionality and more.  So you do not really need ExportPDF when you have Acrobat; you can cancel the service from http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/cancel-subscription-acrobat-online-servi ces.html

  • Need help. Exporting pdf to Word or cretaing live fields in doc

I need to take a 180pg doc and save it as a word doc or manage to turn all the necessary areas into live fields. I've tried going to export > word document or File > export to anything really and I keep getting this error message
Adobe was unabl;e to make this document accessible becuase of the following error:
Bad PDF; could not read page structure. Bad PDF; error in processing fonts cannot find CMap resource file> [3]
I received this document form a client overseas. I can't get them to resend another copy.
Anyway's I can get around this error? I'm desperate I have 9 other docs with the same amount of page to make live

Sounds that you want to make the PDF files live and then edit them in Word? Why not directly edit them in Adobe Acrobat? It can help directly edit PDF, the conversion is unnecessary. And if you really want to export PDF to Word but the acrobat can help you little, you would try free PDF to Word Converter, which may help you for the conversion. However, I am not sure you would do that work well. Because I am a little confused about the problem you described. Just have a try and it may helps.

  • Import/Export pdf help - about to return the program :(

I bought the program because I was told I can import a pdf and export it as a pdf/x-2002. I have read through threads and troubleshooting tutorials and I have not seen anything on how to do this. Please help! I'm about to return the program.

You can place PDFs into InDesign, and InDesign can export PDF/X3-2002, but if converting the format (without any editing) is your only goal, you may want Acrobat Pro instead. If you do need to edit the files, you should get the native files; PDF is meant as an end product, not a working file.

  • Automatically rasterize all vector drawings (minus texts) in the PDF

    Hi
I looked at the Adobe Acrobat documentation and also inside FAQs of this forum for did not find this specific information. If I missed anything, please just tell me
I have a PDF containing lot's of vector drawing made in Illustrator. The PDF was generated from Adobe InDesign. So the PDF is a mix of texts and vector drawings.
I want to send this PDF document in web, but, for some legal purposed, these vector drawings should all be rasterized. For sure I can open each .AI original document, rasterize all the content, then relink to the InDesign Document (so the exported PDF is text and all as raster images).
But, as I'm referring to 100 pages PDF, containing, at minimum, 150 vector drawings, this takes a long time to open each artwork in Illustrator and manually generate a rasterized copy to use in the final PDF.
So the question is: Is there any way (in Acrobat or any plug-in, app...) to open a PDF document, then automatically rasterize all vector drawings (minus texts) in a specific resolution? For example, rasterize all to 150 pixels per inch.
Using Acrobat DC in Windows 8.1 OS.
    Thank you very much
    Gustavo.

    Hi Aandi
    Thank you for the answe!!!
Do you see any workaround I could try? Or the way is to really open each .AI file in Illustrator, then rasterize manually?
    Best Regards
    Gustavo.

  • Can Flash export VECTOR or outlined text in PDF,Ai or EPS?

We have a web based flash interface that allows customer to
design a custom product online. The problem is that the flash then
creates a PDF and that PDF never ACCURATELY matches what the
customer designed in the flash application. The line and letter
spacing is always off. I think the problem would be fixed IF we
could create or export a PDF or a Ai file or a EPS file from FLASH
that did NOT have the editable text. At the moment of EXPORT it
needs to convert all text to vector or outlined text. That would
alleviate the FONT problems. Does anyone know of a plug-in or some
    method for doing this?

Why do you want to change it to a png for placement? Just place it as the original .ai eps file you got. You never want to use a jpg, png or gif in a document that's going to be printed. The minute you change it to a png or jpg you're going to lose resolution. That's why it's pixelated

  • Anti-aliased text when exporting PDF to image

I need to be able to batch-convert multi-page PDFs to individual bitmap images (one image for each page) with anti-aliased text.
Photoshop works this way if you open a single PDF, allowing you to select one or more pages to rasterize as separate images, but not when batch processing (specifically, if you use the Image Processor script on a folder of images and PDFs, it will rasterize the PDFs automatically, but it will only do so with the first page of each PDF.)
Acrobat, on the other hand, automatically creates an image for each page when exporting, and can do this in a batch sequence, but the text is not anti-aliased, making the image look like a screenshot from 1997. No matter how high an image resolution you select, the text is still jagged when you zoom in.
So, is there a setting I'm missing that will allow the text to be anti-aliased when using Acrobat to export PDF to an image? I am using Acrobat 8, not 9, so something might have changed in the newest version.

Not sure about Acrobat Pro 8, but in Acrobat Pro 9 (not Extended) you can Export>Image>Multiple Choice: JPEG, JPEG2000, PNG, TIFF.  I used JPEG and under the options in the export dialog box, leave the filename as is to coincide with the PDF filename and then choose Maximum Resolution under File Settings: Grayscale (JPEG, Quality:Maximum); Color (JPEG, Quality:Maximum) . . . skip down to Conversion Colorspace: Determine Automatically and Resolution choose 600pixels/inch for a letter size document.  This will result in a file size of 1.3MB per JPEG image if there is not a lot of information on the page.  I chose a simple header, footer with page numbering, and 5 lines of Lorem Ipsum text.  600dpi is overkill, you can go for 300dpi and still result in a decent image that will be able to be printed on a laser photocopier that is connected to a production computer.  Obviously if you are printing to a laser printer or a high quality inkjet 300dpi will suffice as well for a letter sized document.  But I have been told that 300dpi is not a standard rule of thumb and you must obtain specs from your printer since he/she can calculate by very strict rules the dpi you need for your content.  It depends on whether you have background images such as watermarks and also if your text body contains line-art.
