Export PDF rgb warning?

Hello,
Working on CS5 on a mac..
I have defined a working preflight profile that will give an error message when RGB images are used in the document.
This is usually enough to ensure no RGB images slip through the net when I export PDFs,
but is it possible to change preferences so that Indesign will give a warning pop-up if I try to export a PDF,
like how it does to warn of missing fonts?
Thanks very much in advance.
Ben

@Ben – it's always better to do another preflight in AcrobatPro.
So you can be sure nothing slipped through…
And: do not rely on preflight for all problems. Check your pages in Output Preview in AcrobatPro page by page, toggle [Black] separation on/off, "Total Area Coverage", "Color Warnings" …

  • Images: CMYK to RGB in photoshop or just export PDF in Indesign as CMYK?

    Hello again,
This community has been of great help no end thus far.
For my booklet, i would say 90% of the layout is images created in Illustrator. What is best practice here for scans or images which have been screen printed or ar basically RGB?
I am unsure whether it is worthwhile converting images to CMYK in photsohop and then playing with them in Illustrator and then finally placing in Illustrator because of the following:
Why do this if on "export PDF"  i can use press settings. Would this not convert EVERYTHING in my Indesign booklet to CMYK ready material???
    I'm unsure what to do?
    Best Regards
    Don

The only reason you might want to convert to CMYK before export is if, and this is the most important factor, you already know the correct output profile for the device on which this will be printed and you will NEVER want to repurpose the art for another device, and if you want to be able to tweak the image and sharpen after conversion.
If all you were going to do in Photoshop is convert to CMYK, and not do addtional edits after, there is no advantage, at all, to doing that over converting on export from ID.

  • Can't export to RGB pdf - Indesign CS6

    Hi there,
I'm trying to export a web pdf with RGB color settings but it doesn't work. Everything looks good in the Indesign document and I've switched to RGB transparency blend space. When I export to a interactive pdf it comes out as a CMYK pdf and when I try a print pdf i just get the error: "1 problem (1 failure) was found with a background task: mydocument.pdf"
    What could be wrong??

Where are you viewing the exported PDF? If it's AcrobatPro you might have a CMYK simulation profile set.
I tried exporting an interactive PDF with your colors and transparency, and it previewed correctly in AcrobatPro (sRGB simulation), Reader, and Preview. Here's AcrobatPro with different simulations:

  • "Failed to Export PDF"

    Dear Friends,
when trying to export a document in Indesign CS4 as PDF-file, I get an error message:
    Adobe InDesign
    Failed to Export PDF.
    OK
After dismissing this dialog, the export-process quits and no PDF-file is created.
There aren't any further notice-, warning- or error messages.
The document itself should be valid, no links are missing or update-needing and all in used fonts are available on the system Indesign is running.
I had already searched for a solution, or at least a reason for this error message, and found the following pages, dealing with that error message:
"Failed to Export PDF" when you downsample large images while exporting to PDF (InDesign)
I disabled downsampling in PDF-export dialogue as it is mentioned in the help file, but the error message still occures.
InDesign error "failed to export the pdf file"
I ungrouped everything by selecting all objects on each of these two pages and ungrouping as many times as the option was available as it is described on the page, but the error still stays.
Interestingly, removing the second sheet (=page) of this originally two sheet consisting Indesign document leads to a successful PDF-document export.
But I want to export both sheets, not only the first one, into one single PDF-document.
So there must be probably something on sheet number two which prevents a successful PDF-document export resulting in the error message mentioned above.
Because there are no further informations provided except that the export failed, it is not very easy to track down the reason for this problem.
Is there a log file for export or general application issues?
Maybe you have also experienced this error during the past and maybe even know some walkaround or hint which could lead to the reason?
Thank you for your answers in advance!
    With best regards
    Inno

    Thank you for your answers!
Exporting page 2 alone leads to an PDF-export-error.
The error happens when PDF-file finalization is in progress.
I found out that embedded PSD-files caused the problem.
After un-embedding them, the PDF-export worked well, also for both pages.
Now however, there are still some questions open:
Why do embedded PSD-files cause an export-failure during PDF-export?
Why aren't any information given to user about this failure?
    With best regards
    Inno

  • Exported PDF looks different in Preview, Adobe Reader

    Hi,
I'm relatively new to InDesign and experiencing all sort of problems. I'm trying to export PDF of my resume in a small size file to send it over the email. However, after exporting when I view PDF document in different applications, it looks different.
    1) In Adobe Reader in 100% view the letters in bold are "jumping". Please see the screenshot below
    2) The colors of the logo come out right when viewed in Adobe Reader. Which is 1st image:
However when viewed in applications such as Preview or just default Mac preview with space bar. The colors of the logo and the contact details comes out completely different then in Adobe Reader.
I export the PDF with the default settings that comes with smallest file size but I need to make sure it looks good as this resume is for my job and will be viewed most probably on the computer. The logo is linked to Adobe Illustator file in InDesign document.
Please help as I spend about 3 hours trying to figure it out. I would really appreciate your help!
    Natalia

    Hi Mike,
Thank you for your answer. I've tried most of the thing you recommended but it doesn't work:
    1) The file was originally created in CMYK and then I converted it to sRGB in InDesign. As well as chose transperency blend space as RGB. As for the logo then the option in Illustrator to convert the file into RGB mode seems to be disabled.
3). Exactly what I was doing.
I don't understand what I'm doing wrong... Is there a way to import all the links from illustrator into InDesign file?

  • Colour change in identically exported PDFs: InDesign CS5 to CS6

Artwork turns out with a greener hue in a PDF Print document exported using InDesign CS6 trial software that has ruined a whole print run.
This catalogue has been printed in past years using CS4 and CS5 software, each time the colours in the exported PDF proof, PDF Print file and InDesign files being accurate and matching perfectly.
This time I used a trial of InDesign CS6 - Importing the same mother file as previous years and working on the document. When exporting the document however, despite using identical settings to export PDF files in the past, the exported PDFs turn out with a greener hue than the previous CS5 PDFs. I trialed a few different kinds of colour conversions in the PDF export window (i.e. 'no conversion' to 'convert to destination - RGB') just to see what happened -  and all turned out with the same result. The colour change is small but this was exxaggerated at print and as a result the colours
looked drastically different from the catalogue the year before. Printing aside, (as it's a whole other ballgame), it came down to this slight PDF colour change.
I'm wondering if anyone can help explain this - does CS6 handle colour exporting differently to CS5?

    Hi Eugene,
Looking up the settings, they say the following:
InDesign CS5: Unsynchronised "settings are not synchronised for consistent colour"  (odd; CS5 version is where the file exported with accurate colours)
InDesign CS6: Synchronised "using the same colour settings for consistent colour management"   (CS6 version exported with a colour change)
Another thing I've realised that might be an issue:
The product images are still in RGB format (supplied by the photographer), where everything else in the artwork is in CMYK format. I've run a test export where I've converted everything to CMYK and exported it to a PDF.
    The results:
InDesign CS5: Same colours consistently on both PDFs with RGB images and with all CMYK images.
InDesign CS6: Green hue across PDF with RGB images in it, Correct colours in PDF with all CMYK images.
So is this where the problem lies? The CS6 software having Synchronised colour settings shows a colour change when RGB photos are exported to PDF?
    Let me know your thoughts...

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

First place to start with is the designer. Export from there and see if you get the same issue. If you do, create a forum post in the Report Design forum:
    SAP Crystal Reports
Also, make sure you have SP 6 for CR 10:
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100005985482008E/cr10win_en_sp6.zip
    You will need SP 6 runtime also. Search here for the runtime;
    http://service.sap.com/sap/bc/bsp/spn/bobj_download/main.htm
Kbase [1218365 - Exported PDFs cannot be edited using the Adobe TouchUp Text Tool|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes_boj/sdn_oss_boj_erq/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/scn_bosap/notes.do] may be related to the issue you are experiencing.
    If none of the above helps, you will have to try this with CR 2008 (12.x) as CR 10 has been out of support for a number of years and no fixes will be released. If you want, you can share a report with saved data with me and I can do the export using CR 2008. You will then have to try to duplicate the issue in Adobe. Alternatively, you can download CR 2008 eval copy from here;
    http://www.sap.com/solutions/sapbusinessobjects/sme/freetrials/index.epx
and try the export your self.

  • Exporting PDF proof Question/Problem

    Hi.
    I have a strange problem.
Has anyone ever heard of a issue with the exported PDF's not showing up on a Blackberry?
My client is claiming that although the PDF proofs look great on the computer, when he's away from his desk, he's unable to view the PDF's on his Blackberry.
I told him it's likely to be a Blackberry issue but he responded that it's only with my PDF from InDesign, and that he's able to view other PDF's fine.
It's a simple (Smallest File Size) PDF export.  Nothing unusual.   I have 4 layers, and some transparency gradients, but as mentioned, they render well on the desktop but not on the Blackberry at all.
Does anyone know anything about this?   It's the first I've heard of it.
    Thanks.

Hey Bob are you familiar with ppcgeeks/omniaroms/modaco ? If not you should check them out, the Omnia is capable of a lot more than how it ships stock:)
As for the PDFs proofs, I would make 4 PDFs.
1 RGB flattened (IE save to  be compatable with Acrobat 4)
    1 CMYK flattened
1 RGB unflattened (ID likely go with Acrobat 7 compatable)
    1 CMYK unflattened
I would then see which ones if any work. Once you have a working set, save it as a joboption for specific use for customers using mobile phones.

  • How to achieve rich black in exported PDF?

InDesign CS5 on Snow Leopard. I have black set to display and output accurately (not rich black). Color settings are North America General Purpose 2. Proof Setup is set to Document CMYK U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2, so that I can see on the screen as accurately as possible what it will look like when printed.
A large, mostly black image covers my first page; it's an imported PSD. When I view the image in PhotoShop, it shows as 'rich black' - you know, on-screen 100% black. But when looking at it in InDesign, it appears a dull grey. It also appears a dull grey when exporting to PDF or printing it.
How do I get it to go to PDF and to print as crisp, perfect, 100% dark rich black?
If possible, I'd like it to appear on my screen roughly as it will in the exported PDF and the printed page.
    Thanks!

    Peter,
It isn't quite that simple. If you export PDF/X-4 or any PDF without color conversion at export, you may find that the subsequent printing system does in fact make some assumptions about R=G=B colors really being the equivalent of DeviceCMYK (0,0,0,K). This is often done at the RIP to resolve the problem of printing office documents, many of which produce only RGB colors where R=G=B is grayscale and the endpoints of (0,0,0) and (255,255,255) are the equivalent of DeviceCMYK (0,0,0,1) and (0,0,0,0) respectively.
Thus, my recommendation is that for any real control of black output using graphic arts software, do not rely on conversions from RGB to either give you pure black / grayscale or for that matter any rich black. It is too much of a crapshoot depending upon the rest of your workflow.

  • How do I get a refund on Export PDF that has ALREADY been agreed

On 1/21-1/22 I tried to 'renew' a subscription for Export PDF. By some error (maybe mine - I just dont understand the whole thing) my Bank was immediately charged for two subscriptions, each at a different price. I immediately "chat"ted with several  reps (it was difficult to get onto the chat and find out how to cancel) and was assured that both would be cancelled and refunded. They weren't!
I waited a week. Was again frustrated by the chat hookup, and tried the 'cloud' retail product tel #, assuming it was wrong but that I could be switched to the correct one. Had a very pleasant chat, was assured that both would be cancelled and refunded, received 2 e-mails confirming the cancellations, each with a seperate "Case #". Felt pretty good! It had only taken me a week of reasonably diligent effort to get a very simple thing done! IT WASN"T DONE! (Yes, I apologize - I know I'm loud - but by now I've got steam coming out of my ears!)
Today I got an e-mail, telling me that the refund had been processed and the case # would be closed. I looked at my bank, and only one had been refunded! I reviewed all the other e-mails and the notes from the telephone calls and chats to be sure I hadn't misunderstood something. But, no I hadn't. I went to my Adobe on-line and looked up 'my orders' history. Sure enough one had been invoiced and refunded ( the lesser charge of the two) but the other had ONLY BEEN INVOICED - NOT CANCELLED. And it seems that every piece of this transaction generates a new "order" , "case" or some other "reference #" - none of which are tied together, except by the invoice amount, when it is mentioned - which it typically IS NOT.
My question, then, is : How can I get past this absolute frustration over every aspect of my interaction with Adobe and GET THIS TAKEN CARE OF?????????

    Hi Stacy,
        What frustration? (Just kidding !)
As I mentioned, one of the two charges has been  refunded. Credited by
Adobe on Jan 28, I believe I received it in my bank on Jan  30.
The other charge, $25.37 of order # AD011017507,  has not been received
by my bank yet. But this can't be that much of a surprise,  and has nothing
to do with "10 business days" for refunds to post.
To this minute, "My Orders" on Adobe website shows  that the order #
AD011017507  was invoiced on January 22, but that no  credit invoice has been
posted against this order to this moment!
Can you begin to understand the frustration of  being unable, through
all attempts to untangle this mess, starting within  one hour of the original
order, with I believe nine different "Chats",  telephone calls and, finally
a "problem" posting,  stretching over more  than thirteen days. Of course
it doesn't make much sense to devote this much  attention to less than $50
worth of stuff, but I do not let things like this  dangle.
And can you imagine how loathe I am to deal with  Adobe for fear of
    some real problem?
At any rate, I would certainly be pleased if you  can suggest a way for
me to extricate myself from this. Any help would be  GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks for your time and any trouble,
        Stephen Ellis

    Hi All,
We are on BObj 4.0 and using CRE for our reports. We have enabled Tool tip text on mouse over for certain labels which works great in browser. When we export to PDF, we dont see the Tool tip text. Is there a way we can configure this in CRE so that the exported PDF also shows the Tool tip text?

  • Font Size is not correct in the exported PDF-File

In the Report is the Font Arial Size 8, but in the exported PDF-Fildethe size is only 7,15. The Fontsize in the PDF-File is always smaller then in the Report.
I use Crystal Report XI. With Version 9 is everythink ok.

In Crystal Reports 10 and 11, exported fonts are shrunk by 5% to avoid field truncation.
For version 11, create the following registry entry and then set the value to 1 to maintain the font size:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports\Export\PDF\ForceLargerFonts
Please back-up your registry before editing.
