Export photos form Iphoto

I wan to export all my photos from iphoto to open them with another software.
I would like to export all pictures at once and above all keep the organization of my events folders.
Is there a way? the export feature form iphoto is really weak.

I'm using iPhoto 08. I was just curious why the originals are stored by year and not event. I want to backup all my photos onto a USB drive (even though I'm also running Time Machine - I just want some extra coverage). The last few backups I've done were by dragging my Library icon in my Pictures folder over to the USB icon on the desktop. I was noodling around on the Apple help forums today and happened to read your response to the thread I'm posting in right now. I never knew exactly where my original photos (taken right off the camera) were stored and it was interesting to read that they're right there in their own folder. Who woulda thunk that?? Anyway, I read your response and went to Finder to investigate and when I opened my Originals folder found all those "years" subfolders. You had told the original poster that he would find his original photos in there listed by Event, and I was wondering why mine are by year.
I've had my Mac for a little more than a year now, and I'm still learning. I had some issues right after I got the Mac with transferring my photos to it from my Dell - I had them stored on a CD and did something wrong when I tried to transfer them into iPhoto. I posted to the forums and everything turned out okay, but I'm still a little nervous with doing backup.
Should I just plug in my USB and drag the Originals folder over to its icon? How do I backup future photos? Do I have to keep dragging the entire "Originals" folder over and overwriting the photos from my last backup?

When did you install?
Spotlight will need to re-index the entire system so that can cause slow performance if you updated recently. It can take many hours on a large disk with a lot of data. Click the Spotlight menu, it should say if it is still indexing.
There is no point trying to fix anything whilst this is ongoing, because it may just speed up when complete.
Are you able to drag photos from email to the Desktop or to iPhoto's icon? How about the 'File menu > Save attachments' option?
Please clarify what you have tried, otherwise we may waste time on the wrong thing.
If the system is generally unstable there are other things to try too, such as safe boot.

That will isolate all third party software, if the Mac is able to do the things that didn't work it suggests that you have software that is loading at startup or login. The easiest way for us to see these is if you download EtreCheck & generate a report.
Post the report here & we can try pointing to items that you can either update or remove.

Not using the correct structure. Camera's use a very exact structure and the only way the camera will see photos on the card is for them to be in that exact structure

Problems exporting photos in iPhoto 6

When I try to export photos from iPhoto to my hard drive, I get an error message that says:
"Directory Exists: exists as a directory at this destination. Aborting export."
This directory doesn't exist - I've tried creating several different folders, but to no avail. If I drag the photos directly to my desktop from iPhoto they work fine, but I can't export resized photos this way.
Has anyone else seen this problem, and if so, is there a fix for it? Thanks in advance!

first let me say, i am not blind and i am looking at the info on the image in iPhoto. second, i know how to read the info. i have been doing this for a long time. i have some images that have loaded higher than that from the camera. i have a full frame camera with 25mb and it takes higher mb images.
keith, yes alitle is understandable but that much is not. i am not changing the size when exporting. also, the only problem with exporting original, i might have tweaked or cropped in iPhoto.

If you are using a CF card, look closely at it. There should be a little switch on the side. Make sure it is not in the "lock" position. For a large example, check this out:

Otherwise there may be some damage to the file system. Once all the images are safely stored on the computer (and your backup!) try to reformat the card in the camera and try again.

No. In fact, I've never heard of it before.
It might help if you could give us some details. What do you mean by "export photos to iPhoto Slideshow"? DO you mean you're adding photos to a slideshow in iPhoto? Or hat you created a slideshow in iPhoto and exported that to the Finder?

Since loading Lion I can no longer burn photos form iPhoto on a dvd for archive purposes

Since loading Lion on my MacBook Pro, I can no longer burn photos form iphoto for archarving purposes. I used to load the dvd and it would showup on the screen then drag highlighted photos onto the dvd. Now, dvd only shows up sometimes and when it does, it tells me the new disk is full. How can such an easy task become obsolete with this update. I have also tried using idvd for archiving purposes but this process will only allow viewing. I want to be able to reload photos back onto the computer at a later date.

I habe the same problem and cant find a helpful post on the web!

The problem with iPhoto is it copies and or moves all your photo into it's database structure which is just a pain
It moves nothing. It can copy, or reference the images.
Even Picasa is better then iPhoto as it actually displays RAW images.
As Keith says, iPhoto work with every format that the OS supports - in other words all the same ones as Aperture.
iPhoto doesn't even support Adobe DNG format.

As for migrating from iPhoto to Lightroom: Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.
