Export Problem from Motion to FCP

When I export an animation from Motion and import it into Final Cut, the clip plays faster than it did in Motion. It's as if it's playing at a higher frame rate. I know the project in Motion hasn't been rendered, but it plays too fast in the export. I've checked the export settings and I've got it on 29.97. anyone had this problem? I'm kind of new to FC Studio and Apple, so maybe I'm doing something wrong.

ram preview your work when in motion, and in your preferences, limit the playback speed to project frame rate. this way, you can see how fast your actual project is playing.

  • Export/Import From Motion to FCP

    Hello
I'm new to this forum and have just recently begun working in the film and video industry. I am also new to the Apple community. So please excuse any misuse of terms as am not fully integrated into the business yet. I have created a background that has a lot of motion as well as an emitter in it and duplicating the sequence didn't seem to be the way to go. So I looped the sequence to run for 90 minutes. I am trying to decide if there is a need to export the file from motion as a quicktime file or should I just import the motion document into FCP and overlay my text elements (also created in motion) on V2. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
By the way thanks to Patrick for all you great "fun with" projects they have been a great help in learning Motion.

Thanks for your input. What I'm building is a sponsor loop for a banquet. I needed a 90 minute graphics bed over which to apply my text and logo elements. I ended up modify and existing 15 sec clip from the motion library tossing in an emitter and looping it for 90 minutes.
The problem was the sheer size of the file and the time it took to render if FCP. I ended up exporting the file as an 8 bit uncompressed QT movie so I wouldn't have to rerender it in FCP. It took about 2 1/2 hours but in the end it worked out.
Here is a follow up question. I have finished the text and logo element that goes over the bed but when the time comes to import the Motion file into FCP I have to render every time I put it into the timeline. I realize that the first time it appears it's necessary but is there a way to get around that having to let the thing render over night as this clip will be copied 44 times and each copy takes about 6 minutes to render.
I was thinking about exporting it as a QT file from motion just like the background but then I can't get the title sequence to appear over the backgound the way I would like as a QT element compared to Motion element. Tranparency issues.
Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

  • Export problems from soundtrack to FCP

    Hi all
i usually works well in Logic Pro and i didn't tought that sountrack was so hard to configure.
Ok, i cant hear sounds from soundtrack pro in edit mode (i mean when i double click a track to edit in full screen)..but i already open a topic about that issue.
Now my other problem is this:
i sent from FCP a sequence to STP..i apply some effects and SAVE the sequence. But when i come back to FCP nothing has changed to my audio tracks. How is it possible?
    many thnx

    Well there's your problem.
Take a look at the manual. Dealing with single clips v. Multiclips is very different. Single clips are done as audiofile projects. In that case a Save will update the clip back in FCP. If you're working in sweetening and mixing a multiclip project save saves the stmp project. To get your audio back into FCP or into another location, you do an export. There's no configuring involved—just an understanding of the workflow.
Logic, by the way, calls its similar "save" a Bounce

  • Problem exporting file from motion 5

    Hello,
I am trying to export a file from Motion 5 and whe I play the quicktime back, everything is jumbled and I can't read it. When I am working in Motion and scrubbing along through the file everything looks fine. Can someone please help me out?
    Thanks,
    David

For starters, what's the version number for Motion and What OS are you on? Are you up to date or using an older version?  Next, what format are you exporting to (ProRes, H.265, etc.)?  Finally does this happen with every project or just this particular one.  Can you post a screen shot of what the problem looks like?  There are a lot of possibilites to consider, the more info you can provide the better luck there will be in someone maybe helping you with a solution.

  • Exporting/Importing between Motion and FCP

Hi, I'm trying to export a piece of DV PAL Anamorphic video footage into Motion to adjust it and then export it back into FCP. But when I export it back to FCP I don't seem to be using the right settings as it becomes squeezed 4:3. It's still in anamorphic in Motion, my problem is just when it exports from Motion back to FCP.
Can you help me work out what I'm doing wrong please?

Final Cut forgets it's anamorphic after it's little outing to Motion. Simple right-click on the clip in the timeline, select item properties, and add a checkmark in the anamorphic line.

  • Animation not carried over from Motion to FCP

In my FCP project, I sent a clip to Motion. In Motion, I imported another motion file of a car with spinning wheels that I made earlier and used that in the new Motion clip, along with some additional animation. Now, when I go back to FCP the car is visible, the additional animation is also visible, but not the spinning wheels. Is it not possible to embed Motion files within Motion?
When I export the clip from Motion directly to a QuickTime movie, everything is fine. But I'd rather don't go that route because it's much easier to move between FCP and Motion automatically.
Can someone please enlighten me? Thanks!

I'm guessing Final Cut is not referring back to the Motion file correctly.  If that is the case here's a fix.
Open your Motion file back up (recent projects if you aren't sure what it is) and resave it by a different name somewhere you can easily find it.  Alternatively you can export is a ProRes4444 clip if you don't want to have to render it on your FCP timeline.
Return to the clip in Final Cut.  Control-click on the clip that should be a Motion document and pick "Reconnect Media."  Point Final Cut to the resaved/exported Motion file you created.  You may have to uncheck the box about showing only media with the same reel name.  Hit Connect.

  • Flicker/Pixelized movie after importing from motion into FCP

Hello, I captured a clip from HDV tape via Firewire using log and capture in FCP, then exported the clip to Motion where I applied filiters. I made a movie from Motion and imported it back in FCP. The movie required rendering to play and it now has a flicker and is grossly pixelized. Anyone know what could be causing this?

The render requirement is not surprising - all motion clips require rendering. How are you viewing your clip? You can't judge by what you see in the canvas...

  • Problems with Motion 2 / FCP-Interaction

    Hi!
Somehow Motion 2 and FCP 5.1 don't play too well together on my system. Here's the problem:
I am producing tutorial movies for a certain application. My workflow is as follows:
    1. Record screen movies with SnapZ Pro. I use the Animation codec, resolution 1152x720.
    2. I import the clips to FCP and render them. The clips rendered by FCP have a data rate of 4.2 MB/sec.
    3. I want to add text overlays to some clips, so I send those clips over to Motion 2. Here is where the first problem occurs: Motion doesn't import properly from FCP. Let's say, the clip I send to Motion runs 50 seconds. Motion will play the clip for about 3-5 seconds and then freeze the video, whereas the audio continues playing. I resolve this problem by deleting the faulty video track that FCP has created in my Motion project and then importing the corresponding video file manually into Motion 2.
    4. I do my Motion stuff and save the file.
    5. Back in FCP, I have to render the clip again. Sometimes I have to reconnect the clip with the Motion file, sometimes not. Don't know why.
    6. After rendering, the second problem occurs. The video clip is blurry. By right-clicking the clip I get to open the object settings I find that the data rate of the clip altered in Motion is only "500/s". Also, there doesn't seem to be codec anymore.
For illustration I habe posted two pictures. First, the original clip created with SnapZ and imported to FCP:
    http://homepage.mac.com/cmeermann/filechute/Original%20Clip.jpg
Now, here's how the clip looks like after altering it in Motion and rerendering it. As you can see, it is quite blurry:

My client is waiting for results, so I'd really appreciate some quick answers.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Export from Motion to FCP

I am editing a few title card for a project that will eventually return to FCP. I built title cards in Motion and now I getting prepared to export. Obviously, I want the graphics & logo to look as good as possible and I wanted to know what codec to export on to best integrate to FCP?
The FCP sequence settings are 1280x720, pixel aspect ratio: Square, frame rate 59.94. Any good advice to a novice? Animation? ProRes HD?
    Thanks.
    best,
    brighamcottam
ps. I will also be doing it for lower 3rds if that changes anything.

    Patrick Sheffield wrote:
Why not just bring the Motion project (.motn file) directly into FCP?
    No export necessary.
    Patrick
Yar, this works if the OP's workflow is adapted to the procedures. Just personally, mine is not. Deeply rooted habits from Ye Olde After Effects: I like having the rendered movies available as media.
To the OP's other question about the codec choice, Animation vs ProRes. The only reason to use Animation is if you know why you're using it: alpha. If you need the alpha and you want to stay in ProRes territory, you must use 4444. The last of those fours represents the alpha channel.

  • Audio exporting problems: from FCP to protool/STP and back again

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Final Cut Pro sound export for mastering.....sync problem
    Hey,
I'm editing a 30 minute film and I have done most of the sound edit in FCP and Soundtrack pro and I want to now bring all the sound into pro tools to master the sound but every time i export sound into pro tools it seems to stretch by two or three seconds.
I have tried OMF, AIFF, XML, and Quicktime audio file sut to no avail!!!!
There are 50 tracks in the file so it is quiet large. It's not that there are handles of the file also as when I sync the file with the audio track with the video it syncs in one place but it is still out of sync in another.........It's as if the audio has been stretched!?!
If anyone has any advice it'd be much appreciated
    Keith

Check the timecode rate and sync options in Protools. It sounds like a timecode or samplerate mismatch.
Especially note that 23.976fps OMFs from FCP (probably STP as well) show up in Protools as 24fps sessions. Change the PTs timecode to 23.976 to realign.

  • Fuzzy video upon round trip export from motion to FCP

I'm using Motion 4 to add master template lower thirds to my FCP video. When I bring a clip from final cut into motion (send to>Motion) then send it back to FCP after I add my text, the video itself looks as if it has taken on a slight blurriness. I checked that my project settings were the exact same by going to project properties in motion and making sure everything matched up with my sequence settings in fcp. They did. Am I missing a step here? I'm tempted to not roundtrip through motion because of this. Instead I'd like to just open the master template in FCP and use that. The reason I don't is because I do not have control over font color and other adjustments.
Can anyone suggest a fix or point out what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Resolution/Sidebars From Motion to FCP

    Hey guys,
Absolute noobie here, so please bear with me; I am following the tutorials on the apple FCS DVD and am onto the Motion section, i have done the whole 'send to montion' on the "Blue Horizon" bit and I've just done command save and popped back into FCP.
My problem now is that my end clip in FCP has the vertial black bars on the side, so the clip is squished in the middle (nothing has been trimmed, its simply been squashed smaller than everything else. there are no black bars on the top or bottom). I'm not sure if i followed the tutorial incorrectly (i redid it twice) but i always end up with the same thing.
Could anyone help me as to why its out of whack? and how do i fix it

  • Strange exporting problems from QT Pro

I have an odd problem that I hope someone can help me out with. Me and my partner run a video business. I do most of the editing and he does most of the graphics work. For 2 years now, we've had no problems exchanging and using each others files. He usually sends me QT files exported from either Adobe Premiere or After Effects. I also get a lot of photoshop files from him too. I usually import these files into my Avid, edit with them and export a final video. Never had a problem with any of his files before.
However, recently, when I use some of the photoshop files he sends me, after I edit with them and export a movie with mpeg-4 compression (from my Avid which uses QT components) I get black boxes all over the export, but only in the segments that use his new photoshop files. The rest of the export looks fine. He also recently gave me some edited video exported from his Premiere that I was going to convert using QT Pro. However when I convert to mpeg-4, I get the same black boxes. This time the source file he gave me was a video file, not a photoshop file but it was edited using a lot of Photoshop elements that he had created and edited with on his own system.
I have recently downloaded some updates including QT 7.6. So I thought that might have been the problem. But I just regressed back to 7.5.5 and the problem still exists. When I export my own footage or when I export old footage I have from him, everything is fine. But on certain new elements he gives me, I can not export to mpeg-4s. His source files look fine when I open them and play them and work in the Avid but once I export to mpeg-4 I get these issues.
Anyone have any idea why some elements that I am getting from him won't export correctly on my system? What may have changed that could cause this? This is kind of a big issue because we create a lot of content for mobile devices including Blackberries which prefer mpeg-4 video. So I need to figure this out. My partner hasn't changed or updated any software recently but there is some compatibility issue going on here.

I'm having the same issue as the original poster. I'm running the latest s/w (7.1.2) and I have removed all /Library/Quicktime items to the DT. I'm trying to export a .mpg file to Quicktime format.
The .mpg format is only playback supported by QT so it is usually best to use a third party MPEG based application like MPEG Streamclip (free) or ffmpegX (free) here if you wish to reatain audio content. If you still have a problem/are receiving an error message, then the problem could be with the file itself. Owing to its popularity, non-standard nature, and timecode sensitivity, such files are frequently corrupt -- especially when downloaded from peer-to-peer sources.

  • Movie exporting problems from premiere 6.5 to premiere pro cs3

    Hello,
I recently made a movie with video transitions in première 6.5 and as the program crashes in Vista every time i try to export the movie (it did work with XP though before), i now exported the project to première cs3 to be able to make a few small changes and finally export it in (avi) dv pal modus.
The problem now is that pro cs3 changed all the transitions or doesn't seem to apply them. What can i do to make the 6.5 transitions work in cs3 ?
Do i have to erase them all and replace them with cs3 video (cross dissolve) transitions ? I tried a bit to see, but i couldn't change the duration, it would stay on 6 frames, even after i changed the default video transition duration settings...
Hope someone can help me. I have a PC with Vista (32 bits).
    Cheers,
    E

I've Imported several Pr 6.5 Projects into PrPro 2.0, and never had an issue. Now, some of these Projects (done by others) did have 3rd party Transitions and some that were probably just not available in PrPro 2.0*. PrPro was smart enough to flag each one, with the exact TimeCode, and let me know the name of each "missing" Transition. It was then a simple matter of going to each TimeCode, and replacing the missing Transition with one from either PrPro, or one of my 3rd party vendors. Did CS3 not give you these dialog screens? That would be a shame, as I found them very useful, and simplified the task of replacement to just a few seconds.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
    * most of these Projects were started on Pr 6.5 Mac, and I am on a PC, so I do not know which Transitions might have been on the Mac. A few were definitely 3rd party, if their name was any indication.

  • Exporting Video from Motion - File Size????

I imported a video into Motion that was 363 MB....all I did to it was add 30 shapes (circles) overlayed for 1 second each at various points in the vdieo. When I "exported" the movie it is NOW 5.7 GB....I exported it in the same file format/resolution as the original I had edited in Motion.
Why is it so large? What can I do when I export to have it not be so large yet retain the same resolution?

When you use the "Export Movie" option the first setting in the export window is the codec.  Even though it says "Same as Source" all projects default to ProRes 4444, even if you have another codec in your project for one of the clips. Basicly the default, a lossless codec with Color and Alpha, this will create a much larger file.  If you want a smaller file you may need to switch to another codec from the Export menu.  Since you didn't indicate what your original format was (HDV, H.264, ProRes 422, etc) I can't tell you what setting is right, but H.264 will be smallest, but is not lossless.
