Export Problem: imovie 06 - HD project to Quick Time in wrong aspect ratio

When I export a project from imovie 06 that is in HD 16x9 aspect ratio, (simple export using "High Quality") the resultant QT movie is not in the correct aspect ratio - it's in "regular TV" format.
Is there a simple fix for this?

david,
did you ever find a solution? i have the same problem....
thanks,
marc

  • Imovie trailer bereitstellen/(converting to quick time)  problem

I have made a movie of 55 minutes and then a trailer that I converted to a film. When I try to convert it to a file for quick time, the file seems to be created but it not stored where I asked it to be stored, nor can I find it on spotlight.

Final Cut Express>System Settings. How did you transfer stuff to the new computer? What did you transfer? Applications? You can't do that with pro apps. You have to install from the disc.

  • Exporting Large videos as image sequences using Quick Time Convert

I am trying to export some fairly long videos as image sequences >10000 frames with Final Cut Pro using the quick time conversion tool.
I am working with SD and HD videos.
While some sequences export without error (both SD & HD) occasionally an "error" occurs which results in the 10000th frame (and in one case the 1000th frame) not being written. The File is opened as "MyVideoName#FFFFFFF.png" but no data is written to it. (Obviously it should be MyVideoName10000.png)
There is 500Gb of free space on the disk I am writing to.
At the moment I can't even work out why it fails in some instances - apart from the fact it seems to be related to the file name.
I would appreciate any help any one can offer!
    Thanks,

    Thanks for your reply!
So far I've not managed to come up with a workable solution.
Exporting as an image sequence is infact a work around... I originally was planning to export the videos as uncompressed .avi files but (as documented elsewhere) this does not work for videos >10Gb.
Some videos have exported fine both those longer and shorter than 10000 frames. However, for some videos only the first 9999 frames are exported. As a workaround I was planning to export the remainder of the videos seperately (as a subclip) but this only managed to export the first 999 frames (the 1000th file opened is called MyVideoName#FFFFFFFF, but no data is written to it).
At the moment I can't find any explanation for the cause of this problem. Are there any logs or any way to get more detailed error information?
    Thanks again for your help,
    John

  • Exporting movie in final cut express to quick time movie

Does anyone know what ERROR : Not enough disk space means when trying to
export my movie to quick time movie?

It means exactly what it says.
Look in Finder, at the bottom of the window to see how much free space the drive you are trying to save to, has.
What Sequence setting are you using and how long is your project?

  • IPhoto slideshow has wrong aspect ratio for iMovie and/or FCP

When I output a slideshow at 720x480 from iPhoto then import it into iMovie or FCP, the images are stretched vertically. I can adjust the ratio in FCP (-10 seems to be a good number), but there is no fix for iMovie. I like the iPhoto slideshow capability and prefer using it for my slideshows. What do I do to get an unstretched QT for import into iMovie or FCP?

You're encountering a difference between rectangular DV pixels and square "computer screen image" pixels.
When working with DV timelines, the best way to get good frame grabs would be to export your 720 x 480 still, then re-size it to 640 x 480 using Photoshop. (BTW, you can use a Photoshop batch function to re-size multiple images automatically.)
If you're starting with a timeline that only contains square-pixel (not DV video) images, try this:
Sequence > Settings > General Tab
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
    Now:
Open a clip in the Viewer window, and look under
    Motion Tab > Distort Pane
    Aspect Ratio should = 0
[Under certain conditions, FCP makes educated guesses as to the pixel aspect ratios of imported images, and uses this setting to automatically apply corrective distortion when it believes it is necessary. Usually it is correct, but under unusual circumstances like your project, you may have to correct FCP's correction.]
The fastest way to confirm this would be to
    Select All
    Ctrl-Click
    Remove Attributes
    Check "Distortion"
[If it is greyed out it means that none of your clips have any distortion applied so you are good to go.]
Now you can export un-distorted frames from a square-pixel timeline, and shouldn't experience any pixel-aspect ratio confusion.
    Good luck,

  • Text squeezing to wrong aspect ratio in PAL D1 Anamorphic project

For some reason when I have been typing text into a PAL D1 Ana'phic project the text looks squashed, when it should look normal.
Rather annoyingly it is my client who has noticed this after I have spent 2-3 days on a whole load of text graphics (18 projects)
Curiuously, I have just started a new project and the text behaves correctly.
Does anyone know why the problem may be occurring? The only other elements in the projects are red boxes created using the Motion Rectangle tool.
My only quick workaround is to go back into all the projects and change the 'x' scale of the text.
    Any advice mucho appreciated.

This may be slightly off subject, but I almost always have to go to the distort aspect ratio (in FCP) and correct it for Motion 3 elements, whether they are files or renders. It is true of various project settings and both video and stills, both HD and DV. Usuallly there is a 33% distoriton and I simply adjust to 0%, render the timeline and all is well. I've seen this referred to a few times - is it a bug?

  • Wrong aspect ratio or size when exporting Pal anamorph with ProRes codec!

    Hi community,
I have a problem exporting a spot in the right format. The customer/the upload service provider needs PAL anamorph 16:9 in ProRes codec.
When I export my FULLHD spot to these setting, the aspect ratio/the spot size turns out wrong. When opened in QT Pro the size is 720x576, what is correct, but the anamorph size quotet in brackets reads different values, for example 1020x576 but never 1024x576, what would be correct.
The service providers online software refuses to work with these wrong nunmbers...!?
The same export settings with QT Animation codec is correct. Also when exporting the same composition with two export modules, the Animation codec is OK, the ProRes codec is wrong. No matter whether I export a PAL-format comp or stretch it while exporting the FullHD comp.
    Working with After Effects CC.
    Any ideas?

Don't resize the output but instead drop your full HD comp in a standard PAL widescreen comp, fit the HD comp horizontally and then render the new comp without using any resize controls.
Second option, Render your full HD comp to a frame based production master codec (prorez) and then use the Adobe Media Encoder and setup a PAL Widescreen Square Pixel preset. Here's my Pal Widescreen Prorez 422 HQ preset. It is what I use for all requests for Pal ProRez from my clients.

  • Storing iMovie events and projects on a time capsule

All I can say is Apple hasn't made this one as easy as drag and drop.  Have tried many configuration options on my TC, keep getting a message that the iMovie can not be moved required by the OS?
    I'm open...

Thanks for joining the conversation Eric and your suggestion. I'd like to move as much as possible the new version of iMovie is eating my laptop hard drive up. Both the Event and Project Libs seem to be the culprits? Haven't tried moving things one at a time, kind of concerned I may break existing links. One of them has grown to over 28 gigs in like notice. I'm doing my best with importing only portions of video clips and not entire recorded segments.

  • Export from FCPX to Compressor 4 Failed - Quick time Error:-50

    Hi all,
Having some trouble exporting a large video (1080p, about 5 gb) after using the Share>send to compressor option.  Footage was shot with a Canon Ti3, and exported fine by itself to an .mov, but when sent to compressor I get the above error.
I have so far done the following:
trashed FCPX and Compressor 4 prefs
    checked for updates
deleted the projects render files and rerendered
    Any ideas?  Screen shot below.
    Jimmy

There have been many reports of QT- 50 errors on export at FCPX forum.
This may sound as though I'm changing the subject, but why not bring your exported movie into Compressor? It's always been a more reliable workflow than Send-to Compressor going back to the FCS days.
If you are committed to the Send workflow,  try creating a new project and copy and paste from the old project to the new.

  • HT2240 I am trying to export my Avid Media Composer trailer to Quick Time. It is not letting me do so. I have a PC with Windows 7 Pro on it. I am needing to turn the trailer into a QT movie so that my instructor can grade it.

  • HT204382 Having problems viewing my video's on quick time player

What program can I download to support my quicktime player??

Try a generic troubleshooting step. Close all of your apps in the recents tray and reboot your iPad.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Wrong aspect ratio when export to mov file

    Hi,
Hoping that you can help me. I've being filming some Hi-def widescreen 16:9 footage which i've want to export to a mov file. However, whatever option i chose, the resutant export gets converted to 4:3.
I'm not sure what i'm doing wrong. Here are the details.
    Original File
    PAL HDV - 1080i 25fps
    Export
    Codec H.264
    Output 1440x1080 25fps Upper 100%
    Source 1440x1080 25fps Upper
    Aspect: D1/DV PAL widescreen 16:9
Hope you can help. Let me knwo if you need any more information.
    Cheers
    Rob

Thanks for your input. I think the main issue is that i originally captured the video using another peice of software. These files were 1440x1080 so i was getting 'letter boxing' on the left and right. After doing a lot of reading, i now understand the importance of selecting the correct project setting
Leading on from this, I'm about to do some more filming and have hired a HDV camcorder (Sony HVR 27p - PAL). It's 1080i and can film in interlaced (25 or 50fps) or progressive. (25fps)
    My questions are:
The required output playback file (mov file format) needs to be progressive. Should i film in progressive as well, or stick with interlaced and change the output settings when creating the output file?
If i stick with interlaced, do i film in 50 or 25 as the output file needs to be 25fps?
Although the camera captures 16:9, the pixels are 1440x1080 (which by all accounts in usual with HDV cameras.) Do i select a project setting whose setup is 1440x1080 or do i use 1720x1080?
Thanks a lot for your help so far.

  • Has anyone else encountered a problem with poster frames not recognising a video's pixel aspect ratio

I'm discovering a strange effect with some of the .mp4 videos I've upload into iBooks Author. They're Pal SD 4:3 .movs with a 16:9 pixel aspect ratio and they play out fine on the iPad. However the iBooks software seems to be ignoring the pixel aspect ratio of the poster frame. This leads to the situation.
    1) When I drag my video into iBooks author all looks good - the video is 16:9 and if I choose to set a poster frame (or leave it at default) it looks 16:9 in the iBooks Author.
    2) I preview my book and it opens in iBooks on the iPad. But now the poster frame aspect ratio is 4:3
    3) I click on the video to start playing and it immediately jumps to 16:9 aspect ratio and plays out fine.
    4) If it scroll down a couple of pages and then scroll back the video poster frame has now reset itself to 4:3
This sounds like a bug to me. Anyone else had it? Do you know if it's possible to report bugs without having a Developer licence?
    Thanks for any help
    Rob

While there is no formal bug reporting method similar to what devs have w/apps, iBA does have a 'Provide iBooks Author Feedback' menu item.

  • 720 x 480 DV sequence export aspect ratio always wrong. How come?

Finally finished editing one of the sequences and want to export and test it,
But no matter what settings in QuickTime Conversion (or just QuickTime Movie) parameters I do (e.g., Size), the exported file always seems to be in the wrong aspect ratio.
I need to have the resulting movie burned on DVD for showing.
    Any tips appreciated.
    Sequence settings are 29.97 fps, 720 x 480, DV/DVCPRO NTSC, NTSC CCIR 601, 48 KHz.
    Thanks.

    Hi guys.
OK, I hate to use the words "I assumed" because you know you are going to get into trouble for saying them! But... I guess this is how the newbies like me learn the difference between assumptions about certain theoretical concepts and their real-world exceptions.
"I assumed" that in FCE/FCP that if I set a sequence's settings in the new "multi-format" timeline, that FCE/FCP would keep that sequence throughout the timeline, and automagically conform whatever clip formats that I put into it, into the sequence's formats. And therefore that I no longer need to worry about the original format of the clips, and just focus on using the sequence's settings as the final assembly format.
(Please advise if this assumption is incorrect).
    Thus, my sequence settings above
    29.97 fps, 720 x 480, DV/DVCPRO NTSC, NTSC CCIR 601, 48 KHz
    combine footage from
    1) HDV camcorder imported into iMovie 08 as 960 x 540 (the "lower resolution" option from iMovie '08 import), 16-bit @ 48 KHz (Big Endian), 25 fps
    2) AVI files (DiVX 512 x 384, MP3 at 44.1 KHz, 23.98 fps)
The AVI DiVX footage is actually television program recorded content. The HDV footage (converted to 960 x 540 resolution by iMovie) is what I shot myself.
What I am doing is trying to cut in my HDV footage (home video) into the TV show's content to create a humorous entertaining video to show family and friends.
So after editing this thing for the past week, I am now ready to test on the target devices (iPod, DVD).
The edited cut plays fine in FCE's preview.
However, on export, the original TV show's content is in the wrong aspect ratio. That is, it is a bit wider, pulled out horizontally. Not significantly wider (e.g., not like 4:3 pulled to 16:9) but just not in the proper aspect ratio. I can't really tell if the superimposed HDV (that is, 960 x 540, not actually 1080i) footage is pulled out too (most of that is shrunk down or otherwise distorted, in the final assembly).
I have spent two days now exporting to many different formats, etc. but none of them seem to work. I just don't understand why. I would have thought that "forcing" the pixel dimensions using QuickTime Conversion's "Size" option would brute-force ensure the resulting video has the exact required dimensions and thus aspect ratio, but it does not seem to be my result.
    Help much appreciated!
    Thanks.

  • Why don't I get any sound when export from imovie to quicktime DVD

Help. I am a new imovie user so hope not being stupid. am using G4 powerbook with OS X 10.3.9. imovie 3.0.3 and quick time 7.1.2. Have made 2 films so far - first exported fine into quicktime with sound. Second exports but without any sound. This film is 5 mins long. It plays fine in imovie, and if exported as low quality for web also records sound (when 188 kg), but big version for DVD gives the problem. thanks for any advice. Sue
