Export problems after editing after effects videos

Hello !
I've done an animation movie where I created the scenes in After Effects. Every scenes have those settings :
NTSC DV, 720 x 480, Pixel Aspect Ratio : D1/DV NTSC (0,9) and they all have been compressed with the animation compressor.
I've imported all my footage in Final Cut and I did the editing.
Now, I have some problems when I try to export my movie into a file. I don't know what settings is the best. The NTSC compressor seems to make things blurry. No compressor at all seems to make things too sharp (you can see "stairs" around the edges). You can even see a difference between the original footage in the Viewer and the footage in the Canvas. I sometimes use the de-interlace filter so the images won't flicker...
How should I export my movie to have the best result ?
Thank you !

The preset in After Effects is NTSC DV, but when I export my footage, I use the animation compressor.
I tried to export from After Effects with the NTSC compressor, and it looks blurry, just like my exports from Final Cut. I know that this compressor will do that... so I tried something else.
In Final Cut, I looked at the sequence settings and they were set to NTSC compressor. So I created a new sequence but with the animation compressor option in the settings. I put some of my AE footage in the timeline. It looked good in the viewer and canvas. I then exported the movie to a file with the current settings and it looks good !
So the problem was that I was not using the same settings. I didn't know I had to change the sequence settings, I thought I only had to change things when I export...
Thank you for your help anyway !!

  • After effects video menu problem

    Hi
I have made an after effects video menu for import into a new encore project. I have assigned buttons in AE, have rendered the work out as Mpeg2DVD. How can I now turn this into a fully functioning menu? I cant seem to import the mpeg2 file as a menu.
    What have I missed please?
    Many thanks

This was CS3, but really same workflow.
    http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/aftereffects/articles/aftcs3it_dvdmenus_02.html
Basically, the actual menu is created in Encore, the AE part is a background.
I think there are other tutorials out there too.
Edit:  Here's the help for CS5 that spells this out as well:

  • Exporting from After Effects (field dominance issues?)

    Hi all,
I created a FCP DV/NTSC sequence with field dominance set to none (I'm working with still images, this improves the quality a lot). I then export that sequence as a quicktime movie file and import that movie file into After Effects.
The problem is after I'm done working in After Effects, I can't export a quicktime file without it looking really poor quality. When exporting, I preserve all the original FCP sequence settings, except the field dominance settings(doesn't seem to be an option in After Effects for this?).
So pretty much I am trying to get a sharp picture when exporting in After Effects, so I can take it back into FCP. Please assist.

Your workflow is quite limited by the DV NTSC sequence. If your sequence is all stills, you are not necessarily tied to that setting at all. Do you need to output to a VTR via FireWire ultimately? What is your final output?
A better sequence choice might be DV50. You would export a QT movie, current settings. You don't actually export from After Effects. You render by adding your comp to the Render Queue. Good render settings would be DV50 (this would not require rendering in FCP), Animation, or perhaps ProRes 422 HQ if you have access to it. You would choose not to render fields.
If it's all stills, it would be better yet to simply start in After Effects.

  • Exporting to after effects

I'm trying to make a spinning graphic appear 3D and the
transform effect in flash isn't doing a good enough job so I'm
trying to export it to After Effects to skew the animation angle
there. The problem I'm having is even though swf appears as a
supported format in the import option in After Effects, it says
there's a quick time error and the format isn't supported.
The only way I have been able to export to After Effects is
by converting the animation to a gif. Which causes the file to be
    huge (around 2000kb).
Somebody please tell me what I need to do to import an
animation to After Effects in vector form.

Reference or self-contained will make no difference to the quality. If you don't need to carry transparency then QuickTime Movie is your best option.

  • Vanishing Point filter, export for After Effects (.vpe) is disabled

I am using Photoshop CS6 Extended (ver 13.0). I can apply the Vanishing Point filter to a jpeg still and set/apply the planes but the Export For After Effects (.vpe) command in the drop-down menu within the VP window is greyed out. I understood this filter is a feature of the Extended version. Can anyone help explain why this is disabled? Much appreciate any advice.

Hi, I'm having the same problem...all I want is to create perspective on this chinese temple I've masked out of a background. There are only two planes. Is the VP effect possible on this? Both planes are blue but the export button is still grayed out.

  • Why my previous after effects videos (MP4) cannot be imported as multi-layered composition?

    Hi,
As I go throught your tutorials, I cannot figure out how to edit previous after effect videos. My imported videos can only be imported as footage. Therefore, I cannot edit them in After effects. How can you help?
    Thank you!
    Berthony

Start here. Once you render a video it's a video. If you want to do more with the composition then you have to open the After Effects Project file you used to create the composition. It's the same way with any video editing app. You render the video and it's done. If you want to edit the pieces you have to open the program used to create the edit and edit it again.
Really basic stuff here. You have to go through the baiscs or you will be wasting your time.

  • Exporting from After Effects to Final Cut Pro

    Hi
Could anybody tell me the best way to export from After Effects, back in to Final Cut Pro? Do I need to get Automatic Duck for this, if so which one?
    Thanks for any help!
    Matt

You need to add your composition to the render cue and then export to the same format and codec that you're using in FCP. Automatic Duck is a great tool for getting your FCP or Motion timelines into After Effects but most of the time I simply select a clip in FCP, export it as a reference movie, bring it into AE for processing, then render a file to use as a replacement in FCP.
Search for After Effects Final Cut Workflow and you'll find some more tips including this one. It isn't bad for organization but it misses the point of using the same codec. All my FCP projects are ProRez HQ or ProREZ 444 so that's my choice. Also, if you use the entire shot, which is not a bad idea, then you can use the replace footage option in FCP which is more efficient than the demoed technique of dragging your rendered shot into the timeline and then trimming if needed.
    Hope this helps.

Yopmanfoll please see Configuration error 16 | CC, CS for information on how to resolve the current error.

  • After effect videos for nonprofits

    Hello,
We are starting a new social enterprise to promote free eBooks and culture in general. We are a nonprofit and an after effects video explaining what we do would be a good starting point for our new website  http://www.encremento.com and blog http://www.encremento.com/blog
Can anyone recommend good examples of after effect videos explaining business model or campaigns?

I see the templates, rather old, but yes, they are a good starting point for a video. But nobody uses them for the entire video. Or, few people do anyway.
I don't know anyone using them for organizational messages, but then again, many of the ones I have from http://www.videoblocks.com/ could easily be used that way.
The examples of crowd funding where basically meant to show how people communicate a message. Nothing more.
I believe that once you have your elevator pitch, start getting the thoughts into a storyboard, then think about what kind of intro will draw people into watching the rest of the video, and maybe stick around to investigate the web site, you should be able to simple translate that storyboard into a video. Select a great intro, either dramatic, or exciting, or artistic, or whatever suits you. Pick some music that matches the personality of the organization, and get a great voiceover talent from within your organization if you can.
Once you have figured out what you want to say, the rest is just window dressing.

  • Problem of Video Export on After Effect CC

How come my screen resolution changed automatically after I convert my comp to H.264 (mp4) movie by After Affects CC? Graphics come out weirdly fatter, such as the ellipse I draw can't be in perfect circle. Can someone help me fix this issue, please?

Your composition was rectangular pixels, your artwork was improperly interpreted, you failed to understand pixel aspect ratios. Generally you always want to create all of your projects using After Effects default composition sizes that result in square pixel projects. Only the very rare project would be delivered in a non square pixel format.
If you post your composition settings we can verify this is true and that I'm not just guessing. The only other option is that for some reason you adjusted the output module and render settings to scale the project and produce a non square pixel render.

  • Sound problem with exporting from After Effects

    Hello everybody,
I exported a windows media video from premiere cs5 (it was shot with the cannon 7d).
The video has 1 video channel, 1 audio channel that contains a conversation, and another audio channel that contains only music.
After I exported it, I imported the video into After Effects cs5, I added some effects, and then I exported it as a windows media video.
    The audio settings were:
    Mode- music
codec- windows meida audio voice 9
audio format- 20kbps, 22.05 khz, mono
Even though the video from Premiere was flawless, the one from After Effects contains the conversation perfectly, but the music is very low and even erratic.
    Did anybody experienced this problem?

AE doesn't deal with multiple channels. It always assumes that a file with 2 channels is stereo. You need to export the audio from Premiere separately or create a proper stereo mix, not throw two interleaved mono channels at AE...

  • Problems with After Effects video in Premiere CS5

I've run into an interesting problem using sequences in Premiere Pro CS5 that I create in After Effects CS5. Here's the skinny: I created a sequence in AE, 1440x1080. I exported the composition as a movie (avi). I then imported it into my 1440x1080 Premiere project. It looked great when playing it in the preview monitor. But - when I place the video clip on the timeline, I first get a green bar and then a red bar - even when the clip is the only video on the timeline. And sometimes the red bar even extends to a clip that's adjacent to the AE clip. When I render the effects in the sequence, the red bar problem goes away - BUT the quality of the AE clip is compromised. The image gets noticeably noisy and degraded. Does anyone have insights as to why this is happening? Am I exporting the AE sequence incorrectly? Many thanks.

    Jim,
I was able to import an AE comp into Premiere using your suggestion below. After I rendered it in Premiere, it played fine. Thanks.

  • CS6 to CC2014 after effects video edits getting moved around

    Hi,
We are having a weird problem after moving our whole department to CC2014 from CS6.  Once we bring open a CS6 project in After Effects CC2014 all the video edits get thrown off by anywhere from 300 to 18000 frames in the actual edit layer window (in the composition the edit cuts are still in the same place).  We are shooting on Canon 305XF's using the 50 mbps .MXF format.
When I open the same project in CS6 and CC2014 and look at the footage setting in CS6 the clip says 9403 total frames in the interrupt footage dialog.  But when I open the exact same project in CC2014 it says 83160 frames.  If anyone has seen this issue can you point me in the right direction.
I really need to have an easy fix for this issue as it is going to effect about 100 large older projects.
    Thank you
    Keith

Yeah it is looking like a footage interpretation to me as well but wish there was some kind of auto fix.
The broken process is opening the CS6 .aep with CC2014 .aep.
What will work is opening the original footage edits that I made in Premiere Pro CS6 in Premiere Pro CC2014.  Then I save the Premiere Pro CC2014 and import into the .aep CC2014 that was had all the edits that went funky.  Since the composition were still the same I was able to replace the old broken edit compositions with the new CC2014 saved versions and now all the footage is correctly imported.
The main problem with this process is how many projects I would have to do this to would make it a total pain.  As well I am very worried about such a manual process mistakes being made.

  • 16:9 video sides cut off when exported from After Effects

When I export a 16:9 video from After Effects, the sides are cut off in the exported clip.  I've tried different export settings and and my composition settings are correct, from what I can tell. Does anyone know why this could be happening?
    Thanks!

and my composition settings are correct, from what I can tell.
But are they really? We cannot know, because you don't say anything about your exact render settings and comp settings, which is what is required here. You could be using an unsuitable CoDec or even crop your output inadvertently by using a specific output module setting....
