Export problems to jpg

Hi all,
I'm using Indesign CS3 5.0 with Windows Vista, and having problems exporting to jpg. Help is highly appreciated!
In brief, when exporting to jpg:
* Settings:
Export Spreads,
Quality high,
Format method baseline,
Resolution 600ppi.
Also several variations are used.
* Issue:
Some, but not all, pages show a horizontal 'band' of lighter color.
My problems are identical to those posted but not solved last February by Alyson Clemons. She also posted some examples, see
http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?128@@.3c06458a
I also have the problems described by Alyson regarding PDF export, but I won't go into the those here; the JPG export is the most important for my purposes here.
Thanks for your help!

First, black is not necessarily the same color in all spaces, especially in CMYK. Black ink alone is going to look gray compared to any black areas in any image, which are always "rich blacks" composed of both Black and lesser amounts of C,M and Y, or of a mixture of R, G and B components that will be converted into a CMYK mix at print time.
Among other things this allows for a much broader range of shade in the blacks (and consequently better shadow detail reproduction). The exact mixture is calculated to fit the characteristics of papers and inks in use on various devices, and is designed to give as dark a black as possible without using so much ink that it puddles or offsets onto the back of the next sheet before it dries. Some papers and printing technologies can handle more ink than others, so you will see darker blacks in those spaces.
No matter what color you choose as your "black" background you are going to see transition borders in at least some areas where images are placed on top of it, simply because the background is uniform, and the image is not. Using a black formula from one of the images can help, but won't hide everything.
> There is only 1 page that uses transparency, but it is lost in the PDF. I don't mind that the page is flattened but now the partially transparent objects are opaque in the final PDF, completely masking the underlying text.
Transparency flattening is achieved either by calculating the values of the colors created by the overlapping objects if they use a process color or RGB, or by using overprinting for spot color inks. You should not be using spot colors in your design unless you actually intend to use a press and spot inks. Without seeing the file, I couldn't begin to guess what's going wrong precisely, but it is most likely a combination of your flattener settings and the PDF export options.
You might find either, or both, of these articles helpful:
http://indesignsecrets.com/eliminating-the-white-box-effect.php
http://indesignsecrets.com/eliminating-ydb-yucky-discolored-box-syndrome.php
Also, it is generally considered good practice to keep text above any transparent objects to avoid having it rasterized or converted to outlines, but this isn't always possible, and may not be much of an issue for you in this project.

  • Export Problem in LR 3.5

    Hi folks,
I have been working with LR 2.7 for a while now and was happy with it.
    PC - Win XP - LR3.5
Photo's stored on external hard disk (K:)
The RAW captures of a Nikon 3100 I recently won were not being recognized/imported by LR 2.7 and I installed the 3.5 version to see if it was any better. I would have to buy it anyway by the time I switch to Win7. In 3.5 the Raw files were imported, the settings of 2.7 were nicely taken over but now and I cannot export the files I have worked on to the K: drive of the external hard drive as I used to do with 2.7.
I get the message 'The folder could not be found' though it is set in the Export Window and I am looking at it in Win Explorer.
The original RAW captures are on the D: drive but that was always the case with 2.7 as well... I am doing it exactly as I used to with 2.7.
I tried with a photo from an older folder of my usual camera and everything works fine there.
The problem seems to be only with the Nikon files. Now I start wondering if there is something with raw format of this Nikon camera that is putting LR in a twist...
Anybody any ideas to help me out?
    Thanks and grts
    Nil

    @ web-weaver:
Of course they go to a different folder and they also get different
titels/names once processed in LR. The originals are always RAW (NEF) and I
export them as jpg or tiff files depending on what more I will do to them.
    @ ssprengel:
I get the message when I have renamed the file in the export window, set
the folder it has to go to and hit export.
In the 2.7 version I got it already when I tried to import.
As I said, this only happens with the Nikon (NEF) RAW files. With the
Olympus (ORF) RAW files I have no problem at all and had no problem in LR
    2.7 either.
I cannot see anything wrong in the Export panel nor in Preferences.
Plug in is Metadata Wrangler and has been updated to the latest version >
    no joy...
I tried import/export with jpg files and no problem there.
Yesss! Got it! What I had overlooked was a question mark next to the folder
in Library (sooo small). A rightclick and telling LR where it was solved
the problem. Strange, though, as it has never done this before... the main
folder and the path are still the same as the ones that work perfectly with
Olympus exports... just a different subfolder named Nikon and another named
Test... Also strange that if I started off with jpg, it was no problem
    either...
Anyway, thanks a lot for shaking my senses for me

  • Export problems with LR4.4

Is there a change in the process for exporting as a jpg?

No changes at all AFAIK, what is your problem?

  • D3 export versions as JPG to folder--random images fail to export

When trying to export a folder of versions as full-size jpgs (to a holding folder for burning on a DVD), I will get a random number of failures. For example, the export will complete and then list 48 of 218 that didn't export. The number of bad exports appears to vary and no particular image is affected. I have some success individually exporting the ones that failed, but this is a pain and isn't really an acceptable workflow option.
I don't have any export problems with D2x or D2Hs files.
Any ideas? I'm using Tiger and Aperture 2.01.
    Thanks,
    Gordon

    Interesting.
This isn't the first D3 issue I have come across...
See this thread here and let me know if you are having this issue as well:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1400823&tstart=0
I was using 10.4.11 with AP2 for about 3 days and never had any problems exporting. I wasn't able to really exercise the program though either. Though I guess I wasn't exporting that much anyway because all the D3 images looked bad.
I would say it is definitely something to do with 10.4 and AP2 with D3 files.
Submit some feedback to the black hole...

  • Export RAW to JPG question

    Hello,
Here is once again a problem that I guess has to do with color management, and I'm having a hard time figuring out my mistake.
I'm editing my RAW files in Lightroom 5 and then export them to JPG (my settings are JPEG 100% / sRGB / no sharpening or any other editing option).
Then, to compare the RAWs and the JPGs, I import those JPGs back into Lightroom to make sure I'm seeing them with the same color profile (as I guess the basic "Preview" application I'm using on my MacBook is not color managed).
My problem is that the JPGs are much brighter than the RAW files (see screenshots).
I didn't calibrate my MacBook Pro's monitor (I'm just using Mac OS' standard color-LCD preset), and I'm not expecting other users to see my pics the way I see them on my screen, I'm ok with that, but I thought that on my own computer I would not see any differences between my RAW files and the JPGs I exported from those RAW files.
I found some similar threads on that topic, but usually the problem was that the users were checking the JPGs in a tool that was not color managed, and so it would not match what they saw in Lightroom, but since I do check my exported JPGs in Lightroom, I assumed they would be represented within the same color space, with no noticeable differences...
I'd appreciate if someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong!
    Thank you!

To tell you the truth, a client asking for a 3MB JPG is a very meaningless thing to do.
Any time you are changing the number of pixels on a side, you are changing the image quality. Any time you are forcing the photo to be a certain size in MB other than the maximum, you are accepting a certain reduction in image quality. Which is worse? It all depends on the original, and how much change you are asking for.
So, that's my answer ... IT ALL DEPENDS.

  • Export Problem with Straight-Up QT File

    Hello
    Again just to clear up a mis-understanding;
In regard to QT Files, it was recommended to simply 'Export' using a 'QT File'
    (no conversions of any type).
For purposes of simplication here, the purpose of the file is for import into
iDVD (perhaps Studio Pro later on).
The material on the timeline is captured Mini DV footage with sound.
    I used to go thru the QT Conversions;
QT conversion choosing DV/DVCPRO - NTSC 29.97, 'BEST' (I was misled here). All of these film clips were captured into FC from MINI DV Tapes. So in effect, each and every export took more time, and I suppose took up more space as well.
    It was recommended:
"For what it's worth, I wouldn't export them to QT Conversion, which forces FCE/FCP to recode your video. I'd export to QT Movie instead."
But do you guys know why my freind (with QT and FCE), cannot open straight up QT Files that I send him?
(I think it's because the file I send him is designated as a QT FCP File?)
How/Which/Type of file should I give him/Export for him that he can edit in FCE? Or iMovie?

    http://www.locationstudio.net/QT-Problem-2.jpg
    Thanx

    Thank you
    In regard to my other comments;
It's true that it isn't necessary to export as 'Self Contained' if the export is for my own usage here in my own system, (for later import into iDVD).
As I understand it, because a QT Exported File is (only recognized), within my system (within FCP), it will not be recognized in my friend's computer (where he uses FCE, and iMovie - correct?
    Thanx

The title of my initial post is a bit misleading. I already took a chance deleting one of the iPhones, hoping if I deleted the wrong one, I can still reauthorize it (all with the same Apple ID acct, so not subject to 90-day waiting period, right?) The iTunes database just updated itself, and it says I have 4 "devices" "in the Cloud", but 5 "computers" associated w my account. How can I find out what computers are associated? Isn't there a list I can see? I dont have a clue what computers they might be. If I use the  "Deauthorize All" option, is it a pain to add them all back in. I assume I would have to log in from each computer to reauthorize each one. Would I have to be running the newest OS or version of iTunes to reauthorize? I think I have a PowerBook G4 Titanium with an older OS and iTunes. I'd like to keep that authorized, if possible.

  • CS4 Audio Export Problem

    Hi
I'm fairly new to CS4 and have picked up an audio export problem, more than likely with a setting of sorts. For some reason when I export to MPEG2 -DVD via the Media Encoder, the video portion is fine as well as any audio that has been placed and edited on tracks audio 1 and 2 in PP. However, if there is additional audio placed on tracks 3 or 4 for example (say a music MP3 overlay) then this does not come out ... only audio placed on tracks 1 and 2 in PP come out. I have checked the obvious like making sure the tracks aren't muted etc but to no avail. Also tried changing from PCM audio to MPEG ... Stereo to 5.1 mixdown ... nothing doing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks and regards

Thanks Harm ... got SnagIt and with a few helpful YouTube tutorials ... am in business. Hunt and John, also thanks ... the other method equally as good. Now, I have attempted to attach my screen shot which should display my CS4 timeline and associated audio monitor windows above. By the way, this was for a wedding and as indicated, you will notice an MP3 lying in audio track 3 which as mentioned is my problem as it is not audible after render via Media Encoder. But remember, the moment I slip this MP3 up into audio track 1 or 2 above ... problem solved. I know there must be something small like a setting gone wrong or incorrect. As mentioned, any help would greatly appreciated.
    Thanks to you all.

  • Adobe Illustrator Export to JPEG (*.JPG) vs ICC Color Profiles vs Behance

    Hi,
I work with Adobe Illustrator CC 2014. When I export my projects into *.JPG format (using both: 'Adobe Illustrator > File > Export' and 'Adobe Illustrator > File > Save for Web') I use ‘Embed ICC’ profile option. Every common image viewer I use (including web browsers and Adobe Bridge) respects those color settings and displays exactly what has been embedded. But when posting on Behance, my color settings are converted into something else! The only solution is to place my Adobe Illustrator file into a new Adobe Photoshop document , then export it into .JPG (with embedded color settings) and then post it to Behance. With this workaround my colors look pretty correct.
Did someone experience the same and  could explain why Behance doesn’t respect the Adobe Illustrator export with embedded ICC profile settings?
one thing more – even if my *.JPG produced with Adobe Photoshop (the correct one)  is displayed correctly, the cover photo (taken from the original) is still converted into different (Behance’s default??) color space. I believe this shouldn’t work this way. Is there any workaround to this? Is there any way my covers (miniatures) display the 'true' colors?
    Please advise
    Best Regards,

ok. I give up. It seems that Adobe Illustrator can export only to the JPEG File Interchange Format (JFIF) and Behence doesn’t fully support this format (for example it cannot read its icc color data correctly):
(JPEG) Formally, the EXIF and JFIF standards are incompatible. This is because both specify that their particular application segment (APP0 for JFIF, APP1 for Exif) must be the first in the image file. In practice, many programs and digital cameras produce files with both application segments included. This will not affect the image decoding for most decoders, but poorly designed JFIF or Exif parsers may not recognize the file properly (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG_File_Interchange_Format#Exif_comparison)
I’ve analyzed my files using JPEGsnoop 1.6.1 (really cool app by Calvin Hass, http://www.impulseadventure.com/photo/) and here is what I’ve found:
    A) *.jpg produced with Adobe Illustrator > File > Export > JPEG > ICC profile embedded:
    *** Marker: SOI (xFFD8) ***
    OFFSET: 0x00000000
    *** Marker: APP0 (xFFE0) ***

    Dir Length = 0x0003
    [ColorSpace ] = sRGB
    [ExifImageWidth ] = 200
    [ExifImageHeight ] = 200
So unfortunately the only option to produce the EXIF JPEG from an Adobe Illustrator project is to: Export *.ai file to JPEG (under Adobe Illustrator) > go to Photoshop > Create new project > Paste the *.jpg > and Sava As JPEG with icc embedded.

  • Problem with JPGs Downlaoded with Nikon Transfer - Can't Apply Develop Settings in Bridge CS4 and ACR 5.3 Settings Don't Stick

I have found what I believe is a "problem" with JPGs downloaded using Nikon Transfer (ver 1.4.1) and processing same in Adobe Bridge CS4 (Develop Settings) and/or Adobe Camera Raw 5.3 (Photoshop CS4 and Elements 6 as hosts).
Anyone using these programs in their workflow?
The problem, quite simply, is that neither ACR settings (nor Bridge CS4 Develop Settings) "stick" when applied to JPGs that have been downloaded via Nikon Transfer ver 1.4.1.
The same images from the same cameras (D300 and D90), downloaded moments later using Nikon's predecessor software PictureProject work just fine in both Bridge and ACR.  Develop Settings appled in Bridge immediately are seen, and JPGs opened in ACR, and settings applied, then "Done" immediately stick and are reflected in Bridge.
If someone else is processing their JPGs in this manner, please let me know, as I have reported the problem to both Nikon and Adobe, and although I have tested it on two different cameras and two differnt laptops, I would like to get an impartial result as well.
One other test, the problem does not seem to affect Nikon's RAW (NEF) format files downloaded from a D2x using Nikon Transfer.  More/different test are forthcoming.
    Thanks
    jeff

Can't say one way or another on that statement about using manufacturers' software.  Since Adobe has to interpret each camera models' RAW format having the latest ACR seems to be the best option.  But if the manufacturers' software is more convenient, and you get the same results then use it.  But it does appear you are not getting what you want, so suggest you try a duplicate test run with images straight from the card reader to Bridge and see if you still have same problems.
I do know it is widely recommended that using a quality card reader gives you more reliable data than getting the pictures straight from the camera.  Does not seem intuitive, but that has been experience of many.

  • Export problems- it's renaming my MOVs to strange things and they're huge!

    Hey guys,
strange fcp export problem. I have a 10 minute anim compressed fcp project, 1920x1080, 30fps on a top-of-the-range macbook pro with external terabyte HD. I did a test export a couple of days ago, because our deadline is really soon, and that all worked fine - a 10 minute quicktime, 100% anim codec, was 26GB. That was fine. I did another test clip, just a spinning bitmap for 10 mins, from AfterEffects with similar, succesful, results and file sizes.
Now, however, when I export, it comes out as 60GB, and FCP changes the filename to something which is the first half of the filename I chose, and a strange number for the second half which is different each time I try it. Something like "filena#CF342.mov", for example. This file seems to have video in it OK, but it's 3 times the size, and the data rate is much higher, too high to play back.
The only changes I've made since my successful test are replacing many of the low res previews with hi res versions, and adding 1 minute to the end. And I changed my QMaster setup, not sure if that's anything to do with it.
Anyone got any ideas? I'm getting pretty worried.....
    thanks in advance....

Thanks for the quick reply! No, don't think that's the problem. The new render doesn't have an alpha channel - it's Animation 100% Millions (not Millions+), and I don't think that would add more than 25% to the file size anyway. It also wouldn't account for the strange renaming of filenames. And the increase in length is only 10%. The file size has tripled!
The final delivery format was going to be animation, 1920x280, because it's going to projected on a 30m wide cinema screen and live TV tomorrow night but our playback solution (while it handles the test files ok) can't handle the data rate of these strange new files: it's 800mb/s, which is pretty ridiculous.
The renaming of the files suggests (to me at least) some kind of bug/error, but it doesn't report any kinda error in either fcp or quicktime.
Plan B is to recompress the strange big file using h264 which gives an ok quality and is 10% of the size. Reason I'd like to do it animation is I need to do several versions with different gamma, so I need to do further processing on the rendered file after it's dumped from FCP.
Any thoughts? I'd like to get to the bottom of this.
one thought - I didn't tick "recompress all files" and some of the source DOES have alpha - would it be taking the alpha channel even though I didn't ask for it?

  • CS4 Export Problem

I have an external hard drive to which I export my encoded CS4 video files once I have finished editing.  The problem is that, in doing so, space seems to be used also on my C drive.  I need to find and delete these files on my C drive once my PP project files are rendered to my external drive.  I have looked in temp files but they not there.  Can anyone advise me on this?

That's done it S.V.  Many thanks!

I'm a newbie so don't take my word as gospel buuuuttt....
If you're using Vista you might be making the same mistake as me. Go edit>preferences>media, hover the mouse over the media cache files location (i.e. C:\yadayada) and TYPE that into the bar at the top of the my computer. Don't click through and try and find it, TYPE it like you would an internet address in a web browser.
    Silly Vista.

  • Excel export problem using craxddrt

    Hi,
I'm using craxddrt v.11.5 in our intranet application to export rpt.reports to different formats. My code works well with PDF and text exports, but when it comes to Excel after the .Export(false) method executes the browser window just goes into idle then the session finally expires. I never catch any error. I have tried several export options with no prevail.
I suspect the Excel export is missing some info to complete and it is trying to prompt me, but no visible prompt gets displayed/answered so it just expires.
Could anyone help me out. I've spent several days researching and fixing the code and ran out of ideas.
    Sincerely
    Steve Komaromi
